It’s a purr-fectly good day for a murder. Or at least someone seems to think so in the tiny town of Couchemar, Louisiana. That’s the story that Ember McNair hears one morning from her bat shifter BFF.
Apparently Natalie Gordon, the local divorcee with the looks to kill done went and got herself killed. The suspect list is pretty large - Natalie had managed to attract the eyes of nearly every male in town. Did she turn down too many dates? Or did another woman get jealous and take out her competition?
Gossip points to so many people in town. There’s Darren who kept following Natalie around asking her out even though she kept saying no. There’s her ex-husband who she caught cheating and wanted her back even though she kept saying no. There’s the deputy who she was seeing on the side and wanted something more but she kept on saying no.
She kept saying no. Until someone said...yes. To her murder.
It’s up to Ember, her ghost from another mother (ancestrally speaking), and her cat familiar Kali to find the real killer fast before they strike again. But they better be careful. Because Sheriff Cedric, the cute wolf shifter sheriff is watching Ember. And he’s going to use those big, muscular forearms to remove Ember from the scene if he catches her.
Will she cozy up to the truth, or could the lady killer get her too?
Love is dangerous! It doesn't happen often in mysteries, that the victim is well liked. In this story she is. Well liked by, almost, everyone. But still someone murdered her. Ember didn't know the victim well, but she can't help but investigate. Especially after seeing her ghost. I like this magical mystery, even though the outcome wasn't really surprising. Entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. A young woman who runs a café/bar in a small Louisiana town she also happens to be a witch. The town has humans and supernatural living amongst each other. Magic is unknown to most of the humans but the supernatural‘s are aware of each other. Our main character who owns the café/bar has a knack for solving mystery murder etc. The café/bar is been in her family for generations and along with her best friend a bat for the year the town sheriff and the ghost of one of her ancestors. She hears a little snippets of information that help her solve mysteries. Very entertaining and fun read. Check it out
This is book 2 of the series but each book can be read as a stand alone. I do however recommend reading book 1 first because the underlying story line is progressive. a few minor things are referenced from book 1 but it will not take away from the story if you have not read it.
Written as a 3rd person, single pov with a completed mystery ending. This is a paranormal cozy mystery with a hint of a possible romance. Good story concept, great characters.

This series really drew me in when I read the first book, so I borrowed the second one on Kindle Unlimited, and it was even better than the first book. I love how Ember can poof herself into houses or wherever she needs to investigate. Talako is one of the coolest ghosts out there, Kali is one smart and adorable kitten, and Sage always cracks me up!
I wasn't sure right away whodunit, but I started suspecting someone and ended up being right. The showdown was exciting, everything was explained, but the ending made me want to keep reading in the series because of a side mystery that looks like it's starting.
This is a supernatural story with the main character being a witch who helps to solves murders, a best friend who is a bat, a future boyfriend werewolf, oh and did I mention a talking cat and a ghost??
Really loved this story!! It was such a quick and easy read and I managed to guess who the killer was pretty quickly but that didn't take away the enjoyment.
Looking forward to reading the other books in this series :)

I’m really getting into these characters. I like the building romance between Ember and Cedric. This murder was sad, since a loved person died, and in a horrible way too. I can’t believe that the murderer tried to kill three more people before being apprehended. Crazy people! I like how fast and easy a read this is. Very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon!
Fun and entertaining. Sage has a serious lack of bedside manner when breaking murderous news. Kind of amusing. Ember and I came to the conclusion of who dun it about the same time. I seriously had eyes on someone else entirely most of the book. I like to be surprised like that. And the very last chapter ended with a very telling clue (and a bit of a twist) as to what may be happening soon in Ember's personal life. Can't wait to find out!
Ember own the pub in town and Cedric is the sheriff they liked each other but only had 2 dates so far. A store owner in their small town was murdered so Ember decided to help Cedric with her own investigation to find the murder is. But after trying putting all of the evidence pointed to a completely different person then I thought did it. Love this book! Corrine Winters is a great writer!
Many times I’m a bit glad when cozy mystery victims get their just come-uppance. However, I admire Corrine Winters’ writing to cause me a twinge of sorrow for the loss of Natalie. I especially liked Ember’s determination to find the truth and Sage’s antics.

I enjoyed this book very much although the theme is much like others that I have read with the sheriff and witch. I guess the fact that the sheriff is a wolf shifter does shake things up a bit. Characters are strong, warm, likable and exciting. Satisfying conclusion
There is another murder in their small town and Ember is determined to solve it. She and Cedric are working hard to find the killer. He warns her to stay safe outside, but she goes in to find him with a gun to his head and she saves him and his deputy.
Book one was good but number two is more excitement with looking for a murder and attempts on the chief and a deputy and of course the lady with the powers helped resolve the mystery
I’m really enjoying Ember and Cedric’s relationship and adventure. They seem to work together very well; supporting each other and listening to each other. I like the storyline. And now I have to find out about this sister.
3.0 skipped a large part of this book, and jumped to different chapters hoping for improvement :( just too erratic in the storyline, which felt like the first book, and also felt very much like an outline that needed it's storyline filled in.
Wish there were more. A lot of suspense. Some sweet tender romance. And some lovely laugh out loud humor. Please do enjoy these in any order . But do read them.
I love the characters. I liked the plot. She is intelligent, why didn't she ever consider a female suspect. Why did the love interest ruin the moment. Ahhhh. Ready for book 3.

Natalie was sweet, helpful, friendly and totally loveable, so who would want her dead? Everyone loved her - well perhaps that was the problem. Darren loved her to distraction and could not help himself stalking her. John loved her too much to accept that she was divorcing him. And Frank loved spending time with her talking about all the things that they had in common. But someone still stuck an ice pick in her ear.
I really enjoyed this fun mystery with Ember and her friends, a ghost, a shifter and a cat! All of who are there to help and support her each time she needs them, as well as to talk over theories with. Cedric, the sheriff is sweet and so lovely and I am happy to see that the 2 of them are getting together. Looking forward to the next book!
