Blood Grace #3-4

Blood Sanctuary

Rate this book

She wants his love for eternity. But the mortals want her back–if they don't kill her first.

Cassia has finally reunited with her immortal lover Lio in the land of eternal night. She wants to stay with him. Forever. But as long as the threat of persecution hangs over his people, the Hesperines, she cannot abandon her political position in the mortal world. She and Lio must convince the human embassy to overcome centuries of fear and hatred and form an alliance with the Hesperines.

Lio is determined to free Cassia from the humans and persuade her to remain at his side for all time. But he won't force her to choose by admitting he'll die without her blood. As the risks she takes for the Hesperines put her in ever greater danger, he must push his magic to new limits to protect her. As politics threaten to drive them apart once and for all, he must decide: will he reveal the truth and fight for their love, or will he lay down his life for peace?

It's only a matter of time before conspirators within the embassy will sabotage the negotiations. A threat is rising unlike any the Hesperines have ever faced. Lio and Cassia cannot afford to lose a single ally. Above all, they cannot afford to lose each other.

Blood Sanctuary is the pivotal third novel in the Blood Grace series. This thrilling continuation explores magical lands and vampire lore on a grand scale, as fated mates Lio and Cassia discover new depths of their bond. Fans of the romance and fantasy genres won't be able to put down this steamy paranormal romance set in an epic fantasy world.

Read Blood Sanctuary today and continue Lio and Cassia's epic love story!

Vela Roth manifested unstable writing powers at a young age, and many of her early experiments had unintended results. As she grew, a curriculum of fantasy novels with kickass heroines helped her learn to control and wield her abilities.

Eventually she dared pursue the knowledge inside the most forbidden tomes: romance novels. She's been practicing the dark arts of fantasy romance ever since, but she strives to use her novels only for good.

She lives in a solar-powered writer's garret at the foot of the mountains. Her familiar is a rescue cat with a missing fang and a huge heart. When not typing furiously at her manuscript, she can usually be found gaming on her home-built PC or trying to grow roses in the desert.

She loves hearing from readers and hopes you'll visit her at velaroth.com.

I love reading about political intrigue

That said, Zoe and her goats absolutely steal the book. If you want to read more about what I think, please go to the part one and two.

Well written story, it took me high and low with its twists and turns. I couldn’t have predicted. I loved the complexity of the characters. All the drama in this story will definitely keep you intrigued waiting to see what happens next.

Preface: I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

If you enjoyed the first two books in the series, you will absolutely love this one. It finally had (in my opinion) the perfect balance of romancey goodness and plot (which is why it's the longest of the series so far, haha). I can't gush about this one enough. Lio/Cass are wonderful as always, and I was of course rooting for them the entire time. They go through some real ups and downs in this book, and there is an incredibly tough little bit where Cass is having to make her big choice. Her devastation and conflict bleeds through the page, and you just want to scoop her up and give her a hug.

The other side characters get their time to shine, too. I was especially drawn to Rudhira, who is going through his own inner turmoil in this novel. I hope things end up okay for him, the poor thing.

One of my favorite bits in this novel, though, is what Vela did with one of our villains. I won't get into it, but suffice to say this previously hateable character turns out to be...human! With feelings! Attachments! Understandable motivations and emotions you can sympathize with! It's always so nice when villains aren't just black-and-white, and I'm hoping his character continues to grow and change, especially in light of the events of the climax.

Previously, I've critiqued the series for sometimes pausing the plot to entirely focus on the character relationships, but that didn't feel like the case here. Rather, the plot progresses in a very big way! Alliances are forged, plans and choices are made, villains are revealed, characters are redeemed...a whole lot happens in this book, and all of it was great. There were times I just couldn't put the book down because I had to see what would happen next. And the ending sets up even more intrigue for the future, as it grows beyond the Tenebra/Orthos conflict. The blurb for the fourth book seems to suggest we might see more of the Empire, which I'm super interested in.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this entry in the series. It had everything I was hoping for, in a perfect blend of romance and politics, and perfectly sets up the next book to be even better.

I’ve read and rated a lot of books. This is my 1st written review.

I feel like I needed to rate this book a 4 because of all my time and reading it took to get here at the end of book 3.

I did enjoy all 3 books…but, they are long! Sometimes I dazed over and skipped through to get to a relevant part of the story.

I love the characters. Especially our Cassia and Lio. Their romance is so sweet and well developed over the course of the books. I love their friends and the friendships they have with each other.

I do enjoy me some steamy sexy time, but, every time I had to read krana and rhabdos, it kinda ruined the moment for me 😂😂😂

Overall, I loved the characters and the story. If you’re one for a lot of action and a quick pace…this series is not for you.

There are a lot of background characters and important people still in book 3…I have a hard time remembering who is who especially with difficult names and nicknames that don’t really correlate to characters we haven’t met.

There is a lot of talking and not much action, but our characters are diplomats…their words are their weapons…and again, there are lots of words to get through this book!

So, if you want to invest a lot of time to these characters and their story I encourage you to take the plunge. I thought we might be wrapping things up in book 3…but, it looks like I will be reading book 4

Such a beautifully drawn world! The character crafting in this series is spot-on. Every character is complex with strengths and needs and personality traits that brought them to life and either had me cheering for them or turning pages looking forward to the moment they finally got their comeuppance. There are no 'throw-away' characters in this series and Blood Sanctuary is no exception. (Side character personal favorites are Rudhira--sexy broody redhead vampire-- and the charming, strong, hilarious warrior Mak). The villains were fun to hate (Chrysanthos anyone?). Lio continues to be the noblest of immortal heroes. Cassia continues to be the 'expert at staying out of her own grave' and a clever diplomat who fully comes into her own. And Knight continues to be Knight, the most loyal of liegehounds.

Lio and Cassia's union and blood feasts made for enchanting reading. The steam in this series is HOT and always worth the wait and the buildup (this book has the least waiting and the best steam of the series in my humble opinion FYI). Lio is always so tender with Cassia (even in the throes of passion). Their union is so very intimate it swept me up entirely throughout the series.

We get to see another side of Lio in this book--it's really hard not to write spoilers here. Needless to say, he may be a noble diplomat, but this mind mage knows how to use his fists when he needs to. The ending is gripping. I'm hurrying to read the fourth that I got from joining Vela's newsletter because I'm just not ready to stop reading about Lio and Cassia yet...

They are going back to his home and they are not going to broadcast their bond as he knows it is better for her. Things are not going to be easy for them as they try to get peace between humans and them. Can they get peace? Will it last? How will it all go? See how it all goes
