Felix Cross #2

Whispers in the Walls

Rate this book
Something sinister wanders the halls of the asylum, and there's a method to its madness.

Plagued by visions, nightmares, and voices, Felix checks himself into a psychiatric institution, hoping to find a cure.

When fellow patients begin to disappear, Felix suspects the staff is up to something unsavory. Yet no one remembers the missing patients. Not the doctors and nurses, not their families, not even the other patients.

As Felix digs deeper, he discovers a terrifying link between his past and the asylum, one that will challenge everything he thinks he knows about his mentor and himself....

To have a chance of exposing an even greater evil, Felix must survive being trapped on a locked ward at the mercy of a murderous psychopath and hungry ghosts. If he fails, the truth will die with him and an even more powerful evil will be free to do as it pleases, one that will reshape the very future of humanity.

Another winner in this new noir paranormal series featuring ex-priest-in-training, Felix Cross. Wow, if you thought One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was crazy, frightening & down-right inhuman; wait till you get a load of the delightful asylum our hero finds himself in! Nurse Ratchet was Florence Nightingale in comparison! Dark dealings & even more darker goings on permeate every floor & room in this sanitorium from Hell. Will Felix find out what's really going on, or is he just having hallucinations & really is going mad! Will he ever be discharged & escape this Hell Hole or will he become another one of the many unfortunate institutionalised statistics. A horrific can of worms is opened up & Felix learns & is involved with a lot more than he bargained for! Who can he trust & turn to for help or are his superiors behind & well aware of the whole barbaric setup? What other hellish experimental facilities & people are they possibly behind? Full of excellent characters, writing & world-building that's also scary, exciting, fast-paced & leaves you desperate to read the next book!

Man, mental institutions make cruel and frustrating places- but the setting worked well for the series and tied into the overall story well, especially that brutal ending.
Unfortunately so much back and forth in time period did NOT work as well with this sequel as it did with the first book, and I ended up getting bored with some of the past history stuff.
Still a good series and recommended so far. Now on to the third...

Felix has made some foolish choices and is in a asylum. Now he has to deal with the results. This is a great read. A supernatural fast paced and action packed storyline. You never know what you will read when you pickup E. A. Copen book. Spine-tingling psychological thriller with heart pounding story. You will love this series. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Welcome to the asylum

Felix has hit rock bottom and been committed to an asylum. This is a dark continuation of Felix's journey to find answers to questions he doesn't know to ask. This is an exploration into the darkness that may lurk in ourselves and our society where the search for knowledge justifies the means.

What can I say? I love Felix Cross, I'm rooting for him, I want to cry with him, I want to see him get vengeance, and ultimately see him happy. That's what a good author does, makes you care about their creations. E.A. Copen has done it again! I'm never disappointed when I read one of their books. This series keeps you guessing and rooting for the right blood to be spilt. Sincerely amazing!

A very difficult novel to digess. The material that was discussed was extremely difficult for me to deal with. I had to skip chunks of the book till I was comfortable enough to continue reading. I like the series potential, but hope this might the last one I have difficulty reading.

I really liked this. It was creepy but went in a total different direction than I was expecting. Not disappointed. Nice little paranormal thriller. Didn't realize it was the second in a series, but don't think it mattered. Will read the first one soon!

And the hits just keep coming for Felix. After surviving the absolutely hellish ordeal from book 1, Felix does what many would do. He spirals. As a result, the NOW portion of the book takes place with Felix in a psychiatric ward, ostensibly to get treatment. Unfortunately, things are never that easy. And to make things worse, patients are disappearing and no one seems to notice. Or care.

Felix knows he has to get out of the hospital before he is disappeared, but that's a whole lot easier said than done. The THEN story weaved in with this NOW story is, again, done so in a masterful way. It's also a perfect juxtaposition to the NOW, as it takes place as Felix is being released from the hospital following his initial injuries when Sean was taken, and the first "case" he worked on after that. Of course, it should be no surprise to you that it doesn't go well. Nor does his time in the psychiatric ward.

What we do get are a few answers to the questions that were raised in book 1. The emphasis there is on "few," though. There are a great deal more questions raised that are answered. In addition, the ending? Oh, man, the ending. I was cringing while I was reading - so fair warning, there - but I could not stop reading. EA Copen does a masterful job of balancing the graphic horror that she uses to keep you coming back for more. And go back I will. Because I need to know what happened to Sean. I need to know if Felix will actually be able to find him. I need to know what the hell X has to do with all this! There are so many mysteries and the fact that the author is able to keep the reader engaged speaks to her masterful writing skill.

After reading the first book, the harshness of this one wasn't quite as bad. It is still a horrific book, don't get me wrong, but there is something to be said for going into it expecting that level of graphic horror. It takes the sting out of it, if you will.

If you enjoyed the first book (though I don't know if "enjoy" is the right word), then you should definitely read this one. It is an absolutely marvelous continuation of the story.

Excellent book I'm hooked, Felix Cross tries to O.D and ends up in a mental hospital with this mad doctor who's trying to bring back his dead bf by pulling a Frankenstein. Felix survives the place and is now after the Bishop that started it all. Can't wait for the next one
