Micaela Once upon a time, a boy and a girl met and fell in love… That’s the way my love story began, but unlike the fairy tale, it ended with me standing in the cemetery, watching my prince get lowered into the ground, along with all our dreams. Now he’s gone and I’m lost. Until an impromptu trip to my family’s beach house has me spending time with Ryan. With his help, I’m learning to live again and make plans for the future. The only problem is, we both know they can’t include him. So, when our time is up, we do the only thing we can do—go our separate ways.
Ryan My entire life, I’ve felt like the waves in a raging sea—crashing and breaking, never settling. Until Micaela stormed in like a hurricane, colliding into my life and my heart. I thought she’d be my destruction, but instead she turned out to be my calm. The more time we spend together, the more life she breathes into both of us. But all too quickly, our time is up and she’s ready to face her future—one I can’t be a part of. So, I do the impossible and walk away. But life is crazy, and love knows no bounds. You might’ve thought this is where our story ends, but the truth is… it’s only the beginning.
Nikki Ash resides in South Florida where she is an English teacher and mom by day and a writer by night. When she’s not writing, you can find her with a book in her hand. From the Boxcar Children to Wuthering Heights to the latest Single Parent Romance, she has lived and breathed every type of book.
Reading is like breathing in, writing is like breathing out. - Pam Allyn
While reading and writing are her passions, her two children are her entire world. You can probably find them at a Disney park before you would find them at home on the weekends!
'MY KIND OF LOVE' is the first full length stand-alone romance book in Nikki Ash's 'Finding Love' series. Spoken in 'Dual Perspectives.'
❝ I don't know what it is about her, but something draws me in and holds me captive. I want to cut her open, learn all of her secrets, her deepest wishes and desires, and then sew her back together and make them all come true. ❞ - Ryan
I was craving an emotional tear jerker pull on my heart strings kind of read, and was hoping this would hit the spot, especially with the way she lost the love of her life, her husband Ian, but he's like a ship in the night due to his military life so because of his career we only get to see them as a couple very briefly so we don't connect with him like I was hoping. ❝ I was only married for seven months, and during that time I only saw him a few times.❞ I personally would've liked to have seen more of them as a couple so that, that emotional connection came through more for me.
But in saying that you do still have a somewhat emotional journey as we see Micaela struggling to move on with life, to making plans for her future without her husband beside her, to her falling in love with another military man. So as I reached that part in the story I'm glad I got that hit in the heart I was craving.
Both of them had hurdles they had to cross before they could move on, from Micaela healing to recently divorced, marrying out of friendship and not love. Ryan wholeheartedly believes he isn't capable of love, he craves the type of love his adoptive parents share.
Whilst both are at the beach house for their own reasons crossing paths for the first time the attraction between Ryan and Micaela was instant, it sizzled, it ignited, it blew up the pages, these two were so perfect for each other. He was her rock and she was his calmness in the storm. He grounded her, she stopped him running.
Ryan's parents are best friends with Micaela's grandparents, it's been years since these two have seen each other. Ryan is eight years older than Micaela.
In the life of a yoyo I went from a semi emotional story, to laughing, to catching the feels, to swooning. Even though I needed a tear duct cleansing this still made for an enjoyable read.
I love Nikki Ash books! They make me happy. They make me giddy. They make me believe in love, when a lot of the time, I'm not sure it exists. They're sweet and sexy, and just a lot of fun. My Kind of Love is a third generation spin-off of her Fighting Series. Micaela Micheals is Marco and Bella's daughter and Ryan is Bentley and Kayla's son. Ryan and Micaela had known each other all of their lives, but they never really hung out because Ryan is quite a bit older than her. But fast forward a few years, and they both unexpectedly end up at Micaela's parents beach house. He's on leave from the military; while she's there trying to move on, and heal from tragedy. While spending time together, they both help each other heal. Micaela and Ryan were everything we come to expect in an Ash couple! Micaela was spunky and sassy, and Ryan was an alpha sweetheart who loved his girl with everything in him. Once he fell, he fell hard, and for the first time ever he didn't want to leave for deployment. And Ryan breathed life back into Micaela. But his career scared her. She didn't know if she could handle the danger he's always in when he's deployed. My Kind of Love was as close to perfection as you can get in my opinion. You're going to laugh, you're going to cry, you're going to want to shake Micaela, and then wrap her in a hug, and you're going to want to keep Ryan for your very own. These two are pure relationship goals.
My kind of Love was a somewhat emotional romance that made you believe in finding love again. It was heartfelt, sexy, and you wanted nothing more for these characters to be happy.
There is no way to describe the pain of losing a partner and for Michaela, it is damn near crippling being in a constant state of grief. She has always prided herself on being a planner but losing her husband so quickly, is something that she never saw coming. Still feeling lost and heartbroken, michaela decides that he needs to heal on her own for a while and what better way to do that than at a peaceful beach house? But when she arrives, she quickly learns that she’s not the only guest.
Ryan has been going non stop for the past six years in the military. Now gearing up for another tour, he’s in desperate need for a relaxing vacation before his time is up and his friends have the perfect place. Now with his plans set, Ryan intends to make the most of it but you know what they say about that. Plans change.
I really loved that this story was about two broken people who were just trying to find their way back to some sense of normalcy. Ryan and Michaela both had something to offer each other and it created a balance within them solidified their connection. I felt their love slowly blooming to the surface and even though their time was short in the beginning, it never felt that way to me.
Now I’ll admit that I was not a fan of certain things and the heroine got on my nerves a little bit quite frankly. I also felt like even though this is a complete stand alone, characters from previous books were heavily involved and I felt like I was missing things and that did hinder my reading experience a bit. Aside from that, if you’ve read anything from this author before, I think that youre going to enjoy this one and root for Ryan and Michalea.
⭐️ 5 "Savior" Stars ⭐️ My Kind of Love was just everything! I was sucked into this story right away and couldn’t put my kindle down! I had been waiting to read this novel since it was first announced, as I’m a huge fan of the Fighting Series / Fighting Love Series, and it surpassed my better expectations. I adored every single moment of my read and devoured this book on a few hours only! Nikki Ash mixed the right dose of heartbreak, sweetness, humor and sexiness in this book that is my new favorite from her!
After the tragic loss of her husband, Micaela (Bella and Marco’s daughter - Tapping Out) is in a hard place, trying to find a reason to live again. Suffocating under her family’s watch, she retreats in her family’s beach house where Ryan (Kayla and Bentley’s son - Fighting With Faith) is relaxing after returning from a tour in Afghanistan. They know each other a little, as their families are friends, but their eight-year age gap makes them almost strangers.
Ryan sees the heartbreak in Micaela’s eyes and only wants to help her get light back into them. They share a few very meaningful days together where he shows her that she still has a lot to live for and passions to explore. Seriously, Ryan Cruz is one of the dreamiest hero I’ve read in a while. He’s caring and sweet, with a cocky side from time to time that is irresistible. Under this attentive persona also hides a sexy alpha male so protective. He easily had me under his charm!
Ryan and Micaela are truly exquisite together. I loved their chemistry that is so intense from the start. As much as the young woman is hurting, her effortless bond with Ryan makes her feel things deep inside. She’s conflicted about these sensations he provokes inside her. Micaela displays resilience and maturity through this ordeal. Separating their hearts from their bodies’s desires is more difficult than they thought when they go their separate ways. This is only the beginning of their love story that is still scattered with surprises and hurdles along the way!
Make sure to get a copy of My Kind of Love. If you’ve read the previous two series, you’ll enjoy seeing some familiar faces. If you’re new to this world, don’t let it deter you from meeting this lovely couple as this novel can totally be read as a complete standalone. I’m fully satisfied with how this book turned out and now dying to get my hands on Lexi’s story, My Kind of Beautiful, with the bomb dropped at the end of this one!

There’s a reason Nikki Ash is my go-to for sweet and steamy feel- good secret baby romances- she always delivers the swoony magic. My Kind of Love gave me all the tender feelings. This is a heartfelt story that charms with its sincerity and captures with its delightful and sexy character chemistry.
This story is chock full of tropes I love- secret baby, age gap, military, and second chance. Micaela has suffered an unimaginable loss as a tender age- she’s not yet even legally able to drink yet she’s already a widow. The life she envisioned for herself has been shattered- but more so, so has her spirit. Even as time passes, she’s barely living, paralyzed by grief. But fate won’t let her linger, and a coincidence finds her and family friend Ryan unexpectedly at the same beach out. Micaela is seeking to heal, while Ryan, a Special Forces sergeant momentarily on leave, is trying to learn how to relax. His life has been an unusual one- adopted into a wealthy family at a young age and fresh out of a marriage of kindness, Ryan has always been restless. Can the man who saves everyone bring Micaela back to life? And what happens when the younger, heartbroken creature somehow settles a man who can’t seem to find a center?
Ryan is the SWOONIEST hero. This man is just a GOOD and beautiful human- and he is SO good to Micaela. This strong and reliable military man is used to saving people- he’s a protector and caregiver. His own challenging background has him craving to give others the stability, safety, and care he was so fortunate to find in his adopted parents, but he can’t seem to invest in anything other than the military. Until Micaela- and his patience, his kindness, his empathy for her just melted my heart. He’s so sexy and commanding in the bedroom, but sweet, charming, and tender in the way he loves. His devotion, his attentive love I think healed me a little bit too.
Micaela pulled at my heartstrings. But she’s strong, and has a maturity well beyond her age on the page. She’s understandably shaken by her experiences, and I found her to be quite rational and self-aware in understanding not only her own grief but the triggers and fears that manifest once she starts to heal- and once she starts to connect with Ryan, a man whose life path is unsettlingly similar to the man she’s already lost. Through it all, she’s so resilient and thoughtful - and watching her heal and rebuild her dreams was such a sweet and intimate journey. I found myself respecting her tremendously.
Nikki always writes such sweet and sexy chemistry- and MKOL is some of the best. These two connect so quickly and seamlessly, and Nikki builds such emotional nuance to their budding relationship as she incorporates their baggage. Their hearts are somehow the answer to the others’- Micaela calms and centers Ryan, helps him discover what love actually is, while Ryan provides the emotional safety Micaela needs to be brave enough to start to live again. Both of them, for different reasons, are so heartbreakingly lonely - a man who can’t stop running from everyone, and a woman who can’t seem to take a single step forward. And suddenly, they move in sync- the path forward is together, only not just how we or they imagined it. Nikki beautifully captures their sweet but hesitant connection- and they are just so adorable.
MKOL certainly has aspects of love that are hard and sad, but its heart is resoundingly hopefully and uplifting. Micaela and Ryan learn that love isn’t one size fits all- that there are different kinds of love all around and different paths to your soul mate. And, when you find the one that is just right for you, you don’t run away, you don’t hesitate- you love to the fullest. Their story certainly has left my heart pretty damn full. Swoon.
hmmmmmm what to say … what to say … I’m really torn with this one. It’s a great story. Let me repeat for those in the back (lol), it’s a GREAT story, but *sigh* I didn’t get what I thought I would be getting from reading all the advertising for this book. Is this an emotional story? Sure, yeah, but if I’m being completely honest, I wouldn’t say it was remotely angsty and/or all the feels! When I’m told a story is a standalone, I normally don’t believe it when the book is in the middle of the series, but this is the first in a series so I believed it, but it’s not quite a standalone since previous characters in another series are quite involved in this journey, and I hate when I feel like I should know something while reading a book but I don’t. Again, I want to repeat, this is a GREAT story, but facts are facts so there you are.
Now let me tell you why it a GREAT story! Excellent choices for both Ryan and Micaela’s backstory/history/baggage (whatever term is best for you). Because of the choices Nikki made with the characters, it made them two pieces of a puzzle that fit spectacularly well. They complemented each other. One’s broken is another’s seal. Kismet. I felt that about them from the moment I started their story, so huge props for that! I also enjoyed the story’s pace; it matched the journey perfectly. There was nothing insta about any of it, as it should have been. It was an easy story full of heart and hope!
I made grabby hands at this book mainly because I’m a fan of the author’s words. I read the blurb simply to get an idea of what may happen, but basically went in blind and I absolutely loved it! There are some heavy emotional scenes, but it’s balance out nicely with humor, heart and hope, along with some heat tossed into the mix, as well as a few interesting and surprising twists tossed into the mix that kept me turning the pages and needing/wanting to read about the cast of characters that brought this story to life.
I need my own Ryan. I really, really do because *Le Sigh* this man is a really good man. I know that doesn’t give much, but he truly is ~ he can also cook, so he totally gets brownie points in my book. He’s sweet, charismatic and charming. I loved Micaela. She had her moments, though much of that had to do with her age and how life went sideways for her, but in the end I liked the woman she turned into.
Their journey to their HEA starts off on quite the somber note, but I really enjoyed watching as they truly got to know each other and through the evolution of their relationship grew themselves and had some pretty good life changing epiphanies because of it. Their bantering was a lot of fun and the chemistry was hot. They both get thrown some interesting bumps in the road ~ individually and as a couple ~ but I thoroughly enjoyed watching them get the HEA they never knew they wanted.
This was a great read. There are some pretty interesting and heavy topics that come into play, but nothing was overdone. Everything was necessary for both Ryan and Micaela’s growth ~ even if it was heartbreaking. As for the secondary characters, I loved their families and how close they all were and then there are Lexi and Georgia. These two cracked me up and I’m definitely looking forward to getting my hands on their books.
So, funny thing about this book, I didn’t realize until a few chapters in that this book is a spinoff of two other series, Fighting & Fighting Love. I have not yet read either series, I was introduced to this author after they were published, but I can honestly say that if you haven’t read them that you won’t be lost and that you’ll want to go out and grab them once you’re done so you can get to know them all a whole lot better.

This is book 1 of a 3 book series. This is also a spinoff of the fighting love series, as this is the children and siblings of previous characters. But it's actually written without much emotional connection to the previous books. I guess that's a plus for new readers who can just begin with a new story. But for me, I enjoyed the previous series so much and always love when I get to continue on in lives of previous characters. So I was sad that the author didn't bring in the past or any of the emotion or banter of the previous relationships.
I'll give the book 3 stars. It started off kind of slow, I think I was waiting for the past stuff to move into the present story. The story did pack a bit of an emotional punch at the crux of the romance and I shed a few tears which I always love! I'm apprehensive about continuing....I just don't see much promise for the future characters and what their stories and lives will bring to the table. hopefully I'm wrong!
Nikki Ash is one of my favorite go to writers when I'm in a book slump and desperately need to fall back in love with romance, and this book is no exception!
This is very emotional, but I loved how strong both Micalea and Ryan were. Our amazing heroine just lost her husband, and at such a young age, she's struggling to continue with living life without her other half. Ryan is going through a divorce, though his relationship wasn't even really a relationship, but he needs to get away before he goes back go his life in the military. He just never expects Micalea to walk in his life and turn it upside down in the best of ways. Right away these two have amazing chemistry, and I just adored how open and honest they were with one another. Ryan helps Micalea start wanting to live again, and helps her realize she can still achieve all the dreams she had before. And Mic brings out such a light-heartedness to Ryan that was just so wonderful to see. And those sexy times were FIRE.
It wouldn't be a Nikki Ash book without all the feels though, but i loved every second! No spoilers, but I truly loved the way Ryan handled the fallout of his time with Micalea and the consequences thereafter. They just handled everything very maturely and I loved that so much!
I truly loved this couple! I'm so very excited with where the rest of this series will take us. And speaking of -- that sort of cliffy at the end?! I NEED the next book now!!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions**
Holy smokes! What a way to start the series! My Kind Of Love was the first book in Nikki’s Finding Love series. It was heartbreaking but also so sweet and sexy! All the feels!
Micaela had her fair share of heartbreak and couldn’t figure out how to get back to her life. She decided to get away for awhile but when she went to her families beach house, someone was already there. Could Ryan help her get her life back on track before he had to go back?
Ryan needed a break so when he was given keys to a beach house he couldn’t say no. He was taking the time for himself until Michaela came crashing into his space. He could tell she was lost and made it his mission to fix her. But when it was time to go, would he be able to leave her?
Ahhh!!! It was EVERYTHING!! I made the mistake of starting it before bed and yeah, I may have only gotten a few hours of sleep! Totally worth it! These two were perfect and got their happily ever after! I loved how so many series came together, it was great to see everyone!
An absolute must read emotional story of healing and finding love again.
At only 20 years old, Micaela knows loss, heartbreak, grief, and is now trying to find her way back to some kind of normal...her future plans have been shattered! But a couple of weeks at the beach changes everything, as an initially unwanted and unexpected encounter with Ryan ends up being the best thing that could happen to her. He shows her that it’s okay to move forward and that she can do it at her own pace. Their sexual tension and chemistry is off the charts, although the numerous obstacles seem to dictate that there’s no future for them.
They may have left each other behind after those life changing weeks, but the feelings they’ve developed for each other were definitely not left behind. A secret, a surprise and plans must change again!
The fear of losing someone you love all over again drives Micaela to run over and over again. Luckily Ryan knows he’s found the kind of love he’s unwilling to give up on. Go Ryan!
Tears to smiles to tears to laughter to tears again to total swooning...my heart and emotions were all over the place and I couldn’t have loved it more!
Quick Thoughts: -A bookstagram reel from the author led me to reading this. But I feel like it led me astray. -I went in for the surprise pregnancy element featured in the reel, and that was such a TINY part of this story. Which was disappointing. -The focus is more a military romance. -It all felt very young and juvenile if I'm being honest. -Very quick and easy to read despite that. But not the story for me. -The ending has me wondering if book two is more surprise pregnancy focused, so I'm going to check that one out. Fingers crossed 🤞
Ahhh!!! It’s so good to be back in Vegas with my favorite family! I didn’t realize how much I missed them until I started reading. Now I want to go back and read them all over again!
Nikki Ash has such a talent for writing emotional stories with complex characters that suck you in and make you care and make you feel like more than a reader. I feel like I know these characters as more than just words on a page, which is what we want when we read a book. This story will be with me for a while.
This is the next generation of the Cooper and Cruz family, Ryan and Micaela do not have a fairytale romance, it’s an emotional roller coaster and like life it isn’t all unicorns and rainbows, this is real, this is raw and it’s amazing! Nikki Ash has done it again!
Nikki. Freakin. Ash. You gorgeous, magnificent, brilliant, woman. My Kind of Love is my kind of book. With a laundry list of reasons to fall in love with Micaela and Ryan's story. ✔ Maximum swoon ✔ Perfect heat ✔ All the feels ✔ Surprises I FLOVE This book kicks off a new series in the most epic way. I already know I'm going to be devouring every one of these books the second I can get my hands on them.
This is book one of the “Finding Love” series and I believe can be read as a stand alone. But I will say it ends with a cliffy regarding the next couple.
Wow, if this is book one I can’t wait for the next books!! First off, I absolutely adore that you get to see all the characters from her “Fighting” series. I really enjoyed that series as well.
When I read a book like this one I go into it hoping it has that “extra” goodness. Something that makes it stand out. I have read a million military romances, and the other thing too (which I won’t ruin for those who have not read), so I just jump in. Well, my friends, this is definitely not like the others. This book got me. I shed a lot of tears during this book. Even tears of happiness and tears from seeing them rise above. I laughed my ass off at parts as well.
What I have noticed with this author is she has an uncanny way of making all these characters relatable. Making you feel like you know them all. Feel like you understand them. The words just flew off the page.
This is a beautifully broken, sexy, funny, hopeful, heart wrenching story that you will want to read and not put down!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
The rest of this book was an exploration of everything I do not like trope-wise or subject matter-wise, and that made it difficult to get through. I know that writing a book is hard, and I almost didn’t review this because I don’t like how much I didn’t like this book, but at the same time this book is way too highly rated. The writing was not to my taste once the story started to pick up (slightly choppy and even a little juvenile), continuity errors were all over the place, the timeline was bananas, and I hate hate hate hate surprise pregnancies, foolish unprotected sex with a lack of thought or care for the consequences, and this wasn’t really a forbidden romance? So I’m not sure why they kept harping that point. It was a slight age gap, if anything. There were also way too many characters in here that it seemed like I was expected to know, and it made keeping them all straight not only tedious, but kind of annoying.
I don’t know, this book was definitely messy, and not in a good way (although for some reason I powered through hoping things would get better). It just wasn’t great. Micaela was definitely way too immature for the situations she found herself in, and Ryan was way too forgiving, way too understanding, and way too good for Micaela. The story started out SO STRONG, and I was so excited and really enjoying it, but as soon as Micaela lost Ian, it went downhill.
I wish I could say I liked this book, and I wish I could say that the surprise pregnancy didn’t bother me as much as it did (sometimes I can get over myself and tolerate it) but with this I just couldn’t. And actually, the more that I think about it, the more dishonest I find the blurb and the more annoyed I get. Oh well. Better luck next time, I guess.
{I was provided an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review}
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...
3.75/4 stars
This book is about Ryan (Bentley and Kayla’s adopted son) and Micaela (Marco and Bella’s daughter).
First not going to lie, took me a second to figure that Ryan and Micaela were not directly related. Also we first meet Ryan in the same book that Micaela is born, Tapping Out.
This book was very sweet and very heartbreaking; my heart hurt for Micaela and never stopped. Ryan we learn about through bits and pieces, which allowed me to somewhat understand his past prior to being adopted by Bentley and Kayla as well as his marriage to Laura.
I did enjoy their story and even felt my heart drop a couple of times because Ryan has an extremely important but dangerous career. Micaela suffered a deep terrible loss so young but she kept moving forward and I could understand her reluctance to try something serious with Ryan. However, I did feel like Ryan and Micaela did act a bit naive at certain parts, which I won’t reveal because it could be a spoiler. The big secret Micaela kept from Ryan, I both understood and didn’t agree with it because that meant if something happened to Ryan, his family would never know the truth. I did feel at points that Micaela acted like no one understood her wants and needs, but Ryan was literally doing anything and everything she said. So did I like Ryan more than Micaela? Big time. Did I hate Micaela? No I did not, I just felt she was trying to act like a grown up instead of being a grown up.
I’m interested in the Alec situation; I wonder who his lady love is? Perhaps Lexi? Or is it Georgia?
I wonder what lies ahead for Lexi as well.
This is just my opinion, but I’m noticing a very repetitive pattern or I should say situation that shows up almost constantly in the author’s books. Even the cliffhanger ending for this book has the similar situation which is the setup for the next book. I don’t hate it but I wish we would get something a bit new and less repetitive.
While I love these characters, their parents and their grandparents; as these books continue, it gets a bit harder to connect with the characters since they practically have everything taken cared of for them by their parents. It doesn’t ruin the reading experience but it makes it a bit unbelievable; for example, Micaela considers herself grown but she can’t do laundry because either her mom or the maid did it for her; Micaela can’t cook because her parents stop cooking as they got older and just order takeout now.
Oh. My. Gosh. Nikki ash is back with a brand new series and this book is everything “My kind of love” is an emotional tear jerker that will have you hooked from the very first page keep your tissues handy ladies you will them for this one!
“My Kind Of Love” is book 1 in the finding love series!
Micaela is a young beautiful woman who is very much in love with her husband they were both young and just starting out in life and they had so many plans for their lives together until tragedy struck now Micaela is struggling with her grief she’s forgotten how to live until she meets Ryan at a beach house Ryan and Micaela have an instant connection and slowly He starts to breathe life into Micaela again he has become her salvation in her grieving period their is just one problem Micaela’s new life can’t include Ryan cos he’s a marine and he’s due to be deployed when their time comes to an end they do the only thing they can they go their seperate ways will Ryan and Micaela ever see each other again?
I was so excited to get my hands on this book and it was everything I hoped it would be and more “my kind of love” gives you all the feels it made me laugh it made my cry (you will need those tissues I mentioned earlier in the review) and it made me fall head over heels for ryan I mean who doesn’t love a guy in a uniform 😂😂 if you like emotional, feel good romances with a hot military lead the time his is the one for you so make sure you add this to your TBR and pre order now
My Kind Of Love is a military romance that will bring on the tears and have your heart racing! Ryan and Michaela are brought together in the right time of their lives and they both benefit from it. The story is about navigating their real life once the bubble bursts and it bursts for them a few times. Definitely a must read that will leave your heart happy!
This book was great! I loved getting to see all of my favorite characters from the fighting books back. Ryan is the downiest character Nikki has written IMO. He is just the sweetest guy. I really enjoyed his and Michaela’s love story.
Just wow! This author never disappoints. Her characters are amazing. Emotional, passionate, pure love. This is one of my favorite books from Nikki Ash. I can’t wait to dig in to the rest of the series.
A hard-hitting, emotional military romance about a widowed girl named Micaela falling for Ryan, a family friend who becomes her surprise roommate. A roller-coaster of a love story filled with loss, healing, and the realities of marriage.
After losing her husband, Micaela wants nothing more than to getaway from it all and heal in her own way. Without telling anyone, she sneaks away to her parents beach house and ends up running into Ryan, an old family friend, who just so happens to be on vacation and staying in her parents beach house at the same time. The two quickly build a tight friendship that forces both of them to question if this is a one time thing.
I really love the way Nikki Ash wrote about grief and healing. We experience Micaela’s heartache, fear, and emotional pain, all while watching her fall in love again. While I didn’t enjoy the long explanations on washing dishes and turning laundry pink, I did love the realistic approach to coupledom and the hardships that comes with living with the opposite sex. This is a realistic novel with lots of ups and downs. If you love books like “Dear John” and “The Last Letter” than give this one a shot. A sweet and steamy second chance romance with an ending that leads into Lexi’s story.
Oh wow! I have to say this and get it out of the way first: It was SO weird seeing little Micaela having sex! It felt like yesterday I was reading her parents' story (where once again felt weird seeing Bella have sex because of the same reason!!! I met her during HER parents' book as well LOL). But honestly, I got over it quickly because the story felt uniquely Micaela and Ryan's and not their parents'.
Honestly, Nikki Ash has come to be my safe harbour. I know that whatever she puts out there, it's gonna suck me in with the appropriate amount of drama, heartbreak, romance and sexy SEXY sexy times! This woman just knows how to balance everything and create something that feels so much like real life, it's simply amazing!!!
And Ryan, oh my sweet sweet baby, I wanted and was waiting for his story since the very first time he was introduced, AND HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! And Micaela was obviously what you'd expect Bella and Marco's daughter to be AND MORE!
I absolutely loved this story and I can't recommend it enough! If this is your first venture into Nikki Ash, even though you certainly DON'T have to read everything, it can be read completely as a standalone, I believe you will appreciate it more if you've read the Fighting Series / Fighting Love Series. Trust me, you won't regret it one bit!!!
I simply can't wait for the next instalment in this series and finally FINALLY getting Lexi's story!!!!!
This is my first read from Ms Ash and on the whole I enjoyed it. The story started really well and I was interested in both characters, I truly felt for Micaela and the pain she went through. Her connection with Ryan was nice to read although I didn’t really get what he saw in her, other than a broken young girl who needed looking after. The more I read the less I connected with Micaela, her naivety and sometimes childish take on life and lack of life skills wasn’t great....I felt the middle of the story was a bit slow and there was a lot of unnecessary recapping. Ryan was a great character and he really bent over backwards to keep Micaela in his life...I feel it was his character that kept me interested in this story.
Don’t take my review as a negative as there were many great moments in this book aswell and I did enjoy it enough to be interested to read the next book and find out how Lexi got herself in such a pickle!!
My Kind Of Love is such a beautiful story that will consume you until the very end. The background, past and history of the characters was perfectly intertwined with the present, and made all of their choices and decisions so relatable.
I truly fell in love with Micaela & Ryan, they were such amazing characters, so well developed. They fit perfectly together, made each other grow into better people and just learned to fall in love with one another. It was sweet, hot, beautiful and emotional. I adored their story.
Nikki definitely has a way with stories and knows how to break your heart and put it back together.
🎧 I listened to this one and Walker Williams did a great job doing both male and female character. I felt the emotion and love through it all. It was a great audio to listen to and kept me hooked from beginning to end.
✨️Thank you to @authornikkiash for my free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I swooned, I cried, I laughed and My Kind of Love had me repeating these emotions over and over again.
Nikki Ash had me on an emotional roller coaster with two beautiful souls who found one another after the loss of their first loves.
While both Micaela and Ryan losses were different, how they loved their first spouses or sought solace in each others arms during their brief affair when they were both healing, their love for one another was different and no less special. However, Ryan was only home in between his next deployments so letting Micaela go was the best decision for both of them, until he came home to news that upended his life and changed hers forever.
While Micaela battles with the emotions that overtake her with Ryan's active military status, the same status that took the life of her first husband, she also battles with the new challenges that life has thrown in her way. One of the biggest being, can she ever let go of her past hurts to ever move forward with a life with Ryan?
Ryan is one of the sweetest men. He has a savior complex, for sure, but it's more than his need to help which is entirely endearing. Even finding out the reasons why he married his first wife makes him even more loveable and extremely hard to dislike him at any point in the story.
Micaela is a strong character, even when she's broken. She suffers a terrible loss at a very young age, which shapes how she reacts to anything for the rest of her life, but with all that takes place she is still strong in her will and fortitude.
Ryan and Micaela find and help one another, while discovering their own kind of love together. It's a powerful story about family and love filled with lots of emotions.
This is definitely my favourite from Nikki! I loved everything about this book! It has everything you could possibly want in a romance. And it has ALL THE FEELS! It has a wonderful storyline that captivated my attention from the start till the very end.
My heart aches for Micaela. Her story is gutwrenching and heartbreaking. After more than a year of wallowing and sadness, she is finally moving on. And that's where she met Ryan. Ryan can't help but help her to move on because he has a savior complex. Their connection is just instant. But Micaela knows that their time at the villa is temporary and she will not put herself in that position again.
I loved Ryan! He was giving, thoughtful and loving. He is just the sweetest guy. I really enjoyed his and Michaela’s love story. I can't wait for Lexi and Georgia's stories now!
Oh it was so fun to be back in Vegas with the ‘Fighting’ crew!! This book IS a standalone, but I believe it’s greatly enhanced if you’ve also experienced the two previous generations ❤️ Ryan has spent his entire adult life running and hasn’t ever been able to find a place where he fits. He finds his purpose in his work and puts all his energy and focus there. Micalea had her whole life planned out...school, marriage, following her passion - and everything has been going just how she thought it would...until it doesn’t. And when everything is knocked off course, she finds herself lost in the ‘could have been’. I just loved them together. They helped each other grow and heal over time. And even though I may have shed a few tears, it is a truly beautiful story of new beginnings. This is the first book in the Finding Love Series and I cannot wait for Lexi’s story next!!
