How far would you journey to find something true? Middle-aged and getting divorced, Kate Ibister retreats to the only thing that gives her any solace: work. It’s a remote research assignment on Fair Isle that brings her back to her first, uncomplicated love for ornithology. That, she decides, is all she needs in her life. But it seems there is no escaping human love, especially in less than three square miles of island. When a runaway sheep brings Leigh Tait into her life, Kate wants nothing to do with the farmer. The Scotswoman is young, arrogant… and oh-so-irresistible. Little by little, Kate learns to embrace a new life that brings her back to the fundamentals of what once mattered so much to her. With a little help from sheep, birds, and an inquisitive dog, can she also learn to love again? Meadowlark is a lesbian romance novella about finding love, both inside and out!
Jea Hawkins writes sweet and spicy contemporary lesbian romance. She writes all her paranormal romance and urban fantasy as Lucy True. Regardless of genre, if love conquers all, then she’d like to think her heroines can rule the world one day. An east coast transplant to the Midwest, she loves to write about complicated women and settings that feel like home. Her historical / contemporary romance, As Long As Love Lasts, has been nominated for a GCLS Literary Award. Personal addictions include genealogy, autumn, cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, and the Sims 3. She’s both an avid reader and gamer, and hopes readers don’t mind a few geeky references here and there in her work.
A second chance to find yourself is the most beautiful gift you give yourself.
This is one of those stories I wish I read sooner. Jea Hawkins brings such storytelling moments to life. Kate is at a crossroad and must remember what stired her spirit. She goes to the Island she lived on and returned summer's during her youth. She gets back to her chosen profession in the very place her love of birds was born. Leigh is a gift she could never expected. She is a sheep farmer who took over parents family farm. The island has been her home since birth. The journey they take lets Kate come full circle and true love with Leigh heals hearts. I loved the way Kate dealt with life challenges and found her truth. Seeing them both open up to a love so strong was a beautiful romance. I loved this story, so glad I pulled it from my reading que and read it today. A fun read you will not want to put down.
Do you really, really love someone so badly that you forsake you dreams. Or do finally get up the nerve and relate to yourself that was not love but peer pressure or something else but foolishly did it anyway. What's it say about you till you find yourself? Enjoy!
Not a bad romance story, but didn’t have a lot of substance. I was hoping for more bird stuff since one of the characters is an ornithologist, but it was just glossed over.
