Returning to Haven after freeing Alessa's mother. Oberon and Alessa work to grow their strength and forces in the shadows of the desert. Their string of destruction does not go unnoticed though and the Lordships gather their own forces to protect themselves from the undead that appears to be spreading like wildfire in the west. The only question is will they be enough to stop the force of nature known as Oberon?
Mistakes: I only found one and listed it on Goodreads. Another short book. Ends at 90%. Does have a preview of book three. I feel like book one and two should be combined.
Plot: Dungeon diving and an enemy invasion. I feel like things are just to easy for the MC. The invasion didn't take long to deal with. Also not enough loot.
This continues to be a fun series. The core plot is that the most powerful sorcerer in the world tries to bring the races together in peace, is betrayed, killed, and comes back a pissed and decided to bring the races together is the subjugation instead. One change when he comes back is that there is now a leveling system. Then the series is mostly about rediscovering old weapons that have been lost and building an army. If you like a story where the protagonist is overpowered, underestimated and gets a ton of revenge, which I do, you'll love this. I started reading and pretty much didn't put the book down until done. A fun read on a rainy day!
This shows a lot of growth from the first book. The writing makes more sense, the editing is improved and it makes more sense. However, there are still irrelevant perspective changes that add nothing to the story, characters appear then disappear for long periods of time and character voices aren't very distinct. The main character should talk like a king or an academic, not use the same type of language as the 14 year old. He needs to devote more book space to the big battles and events, and less to irrelevant perspective shifts, irrelevant side characters and side plots that go nowhere.
Well written as are all of the author's books, but this one only gets a 4 from me for one simple reason: I don't like "full-evil".
I understand the MC's sense of betrayal, and I have no problem with a pragmatic approach to problem solving. Going all the way into full evil overlord territory, however, loses my identification with the protagonist.
As this is completely subjective, I want to be clear that the book is not deficient in any way, I just didn't like it as much as I liked the Dungeon Robotics books. Even the "dark reboot" of that series I didn't particularly enjoy for the above reason.
The story was good, and headed in a logical direction from the last book. The one complaint is that it makes no effort to catch people up on things that happened in the previous novel. This was a problem even for me, as the novel would bring in a minor character from the previous novel, and I'd struggle to remember who they were. A sentence or two to remind readers would be really appreciated.
This series is just amazing! I love dark fantasy novels and the inclusion of minor gaming elements just blew me away. I never had to skip ahead due to boredom ,this was a smooth and easy read. I devoured this book and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment. If you loved the first book, this book is a fantastic continuation and keeps up the pace! Bravo!!!!! Write quickly😅
If you love fantasy novels that include good vs evil, with the "evil" undead, goblins and vampires being eviscerated by the "heros" bathed in holy light then this book is not for you. It is so righteously against that weak bullshit and I love it. This series can make vampirism and unhealthy sexy again.
Alot more spelling mistakes than I'm used to with Matt, but I was looking forward to this book. When my pre-order delivered I dropped the book I was in the middle of to read this, and plowed through it in one sitting. Not sure whether I want more of this or more dungeon robotics. Either way I look forward to either. Great job
There's a lot i could say about this book but I think it could all be summed up with if you liked the first book you'll like this book. This series has become my favorite by this author and I hope the next book comes out somewhat soon.
This is a funny quick book that is very enjoyable.
The focus on building up a solid home base was a good idea and gave a firm foundation for future books. As long as the characters stay strong, this series is a keeper.
I love the isekai elements that are lightly added in a way that makes sense. When you have hero’s from another world, weird shit happens lol. Looking forward to the next one!
I like that the story is going in a definitive direction. Also it is more than the rise of a anti hero. I will like to see some complex magic from Oberon, once his power is unlocked.
I absolutely love this series. I think the entire premise is great. Great characters and good progression and doesn't feel the need to clog pages with stat sheets. I can't wait for the next book to see how the story will develop next.
The writing flows good and the story grabs you from the first book all the way through the second and even though its written from the perspective of evil it still makes you pull for them
The new Lich King continues on his newfound path of undeath, finds a dungeon, new allies, and fights the avatar of a goddess. World conquest is now his goal. The story is a fun antihero tale. There are a few missed edits but I didn’t mind too much. Please enjoy
This is the second book in the Revenge of the Sorcerer King series. The challenges just keep getting larger as Oberon tries to get ready for his revenge.
