“This is Shea at his absolute best.”

BRIAN SHEA has served as both a military officer and law enforcement Detective. His authentic crime fiction novels have been enjoyed by countless readers around the world. His books are recommended for readers who enjoy Michael Connolly’s Harry Bosch, David Baldacci’s John Puller, or James Patterson’s Alex Cross.
BRIAN CHRISTOPHER SHEA has spent most of his adult life in service to his country and local community. He honorably served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. In his civilian life, he reached the rank of Detective and accrued ten years of law enforcement experience between Texas and Connecticut. Somewhere in the mix he spent five years as a fifth-grade school teacher. Brian’s myriad of life experience is woven into the tapestry of each character’s design. He resides in New England and is blessed with an amazing wife and three beautiful daughters.
Writing has always been a dream, but life seemed to find a way of interrupting. It wasn’t until recently that he dedicated time to this passion. His first book, The Camel’s Back, gave him a much-needed mental break from his work investigating atrocities against children. He allotted time in the morning each day. Usually waking at 5 to bang away on his manuscript. The second round of daily writing would occur after his children were asleep. He proved that working full-time and raising a family were no longer valid excuses to putting off his novel.
I'm trying to process how I feel about the Nick Lawrence series at large. Books 4 and 5 wrap up the loose ends and bring the series to an end.
On the one hand, the plots of books 4 and 5 (TARGETED VIOLENCE, MURDER 8) strike me as being a bit all over the place. Nick Lawrence ends up in a deep cover, off-the-book wetwork crew, but ends up handling plots that would definitely be within the wheelhouse of conventional law enforcement investigations. I suppose what makes the task force more efficient would be that they don't need warrants and can conduct interrogations and surveillance that would violate every principle of due process. I'd expect such a task force to be focused on international terrorism.
At the same time...the characters continue to be compelling, and the action crisp and compelling the reader to turn the page.
I don't regret reading the series, and it did what it set out to do (entertain). I might check out Shea's other works down the road. He has definitely improved as a writer from the time of KILL LIST, and as far as the flaws of his first three books, books 4 and 5 were the ones that demonstrated those pitfalls the least.
The latest installment of the Nick Lawrence Series was awesome, especially the ending. Lawrence had lost everything ( The two women that he loved) a child and his freedom. Fortunately for him he had done enough good in his life to receive a 2and chance. The author combines modern Political Theater, modern Political Power and the power of the press to create a great story. This story would be awesome as a mini series on Netflix.
This series goes completely off the rail in these two books. The lead police officer goes to jail for murder? Then some nefarious unknown group gets him out without anyone knowing? Oh and my favorite - an 18 year old immigrant female is recruited into this extragovernment group because of her "skills". Rediculous and a big disappointment after the first 3 installments
Number 5was the best of the series for me because it was more real and better organized in what Nick did or didn't do. He was an integral part of a team that took losses due to human mistakes and the tale wasn't one of a larger than life individual.
Never thought I would find a character to match Jason Bourne but here he is. Supporting cast is great. Story flows. Lots of action and lots of humanity as well. Highly recommend
Another page turner. I'm not wild about duplex books, i.e. two in ones. But I survived this one (2). The story line is more than believable, especially in these times of crooked politicians every where one looks. And NO typos!!
This was a great ending for a truly addictive series. I have really enjoyed all five Nick Lawrence books. I will miss them, but starting a new Brian Shea series now.
