Jim Moore takes a close look at three sections of the Bible which dramatically underscore key "instructions" for living: 1. Instructions for Meaningful Living - The Beatitudes 2. Instructions for Moral Living - The Ten Commandments 3. The Bottom Line Instruction - The New Commandment of Jesus, "Love One Another"
I gained a deeper understanding of the Beatitudes and the 10 Commandments than what I had before. I have a clearer definition of what God intends and how to share those intentions with others through my behavior and interactions with others. James W. Moore is a very entertaining author -- he uses many stories to illustrate his points throughout the entire book. I am now going back through and highlighting those passages that spoke to me and this book will now be a reference book I will refer to as I raise my children.
This book was used in my Sunday School class. We looked at a chapter each week, breaking it down and taking a closer look at it. Some weeks we carried over because there was so much that could be discussed in a group. The way James Moore wrote this book it was in easy to understand language. The beatitudes are a beautiful and to have them broken apart in a way to help a "lay" person to better understand them was wonderful. The commandments are something we learn as children but do we really truly understand them? James Moore has written in a way that takes the commandments and makes them easy to understand as well as make sense of them in this modern era. I believe that reading the book by itself would be fine and a wonderful thing. But I truly believe using this as a study in a group helped me to gain a much deeper understanding of the beatitudes and commandments than I would have from just reading it. After all each person can read the same words and get a different take on those words. I highly recommend this book to others who are interested in getting a deeper understanding of the beatitudes and commandments.
