What does leadership look like in a company with no bosses? How do you develop a culture that allows self-managing organisations to thrive? What mindset and relational shifts are required? In this book, the authors share stories and insights from nearly twenty years of coaching teams and organisations to become self-managing. Rather than looking at complicated self-management frameworks and models, these pages reveal a perspective of organisational transformation based on the simple but powerful premise of facilitating different kinds of dialogues.
This is the People and Interactions over Process and Tools book for the Teal movement. A must-read if you are serious about Teal.
It was such a pleasant surprise to find a book covering the how of culture change and people change management. Evolving mindsets is the core work of a Teal transformation, and finally, we have a book to give us insight and real-world stories to illustrate how and why.
Very interesting experiences from both authors, it's great to read something like that to compensate for most of the "Sillicon-Valley-style" management books that it exists ^___^
Even without the "possibility" to implement everything described, I think it's a great book for reflecting about different ways of organization.
This is not a handbook on self-management but rather a first-hand account of the author's experiences in transforming traditional companies into self-managing organizations. This is where its value lies. Unlike many other books in the genre, it is written with openness and simplicity. There is as much talk about successes as about failures, mistakes, and learnings. The storytelling is intertwined with illustrations of the pillars at the core of her approach: 1) a coaching leadership mindset, 2) a focus on working climate, and 3) a culture of mandate and involvement. It's a short read and yet I am certain I will refer back to it. As a bonus, I now have an alternative way of saying "the elephant in the room" :)
Useful stories about the real challenges involved in helping organizations adopt self-management. I particularly liked the permission given towards the end about not having to force your whole team to care about the financials, biz dev, and all the traditional leadership stuff if that's not where their interests lie.
Really nice and easy reading with tips and hints on cultural, leadership and mindset change is going to self-organised organisation. A lot of adult-adult talking thinking to your everyday at home and at work.
