Three quarters of the world's people live in homes made of mud, yet the forms of such houses, the skills of their builders, and recent experiments in mud technology are seldom documented. This study presents two years of architectural research on earthen dwellings and assesses the forces that affect the design of the mud dwelling and indigenous construction methods, while detailing the practical experience of people who live in places where earth building is a long tradition.
