At the start of the book Sandra Frye is in her favourite coffee house, grounded, orderly about to start writing...and then she begins, and she evokes lost moments and dreams, reflections that ripple and are gone. In her mosaic of jigsaw words her life is assembled, undone, reassembled, as fragments of people and personalities are snatched across time. Heartache, loss, love and regret are skilfully interwoven with everyday places and objects – frozen washing on a line, velvet cattails in a pond, metal roller skates, a lot of birds, and always the colour blue. As in her memoirs, Frye has the capacity to draw the reader into her world and share her emotions. Her life and times are laid bare and we are with her every moment.
