Midnight Hunters #8

Enchanted Hunt

Rate this book
Sylvan forms an alliance with the neighboring Snowcrest wolf pack after an attack on Snowcrest by creatures from beyond the veil, and sends a cadre of warriors to aid in training the Snowcrest soldiers to defend against the next attack. Trent, one of Sylvan's lieutenants, understands her duty, but can’t deny the primal call of another Were, even if Zora is the Alpha of the Snowcrest Pack and any relationship between them risks inter-Pack war. When Sylvan receives an unexpected summons—couched in the form of an invitation to parlay—from Cecelia, Queen of Faerie, she decides to cross into Faerie despite Drake’s misgivings and against the advice of her war council. The Timberwolf stronghold has never been breached, but this time the enemy is shielded by dark magic and no one is safe.

A Midnight Hunters novella.

3.75 Stars. I’m addicted to this series. It does have its bumps but I could not stop reading it even if I wanted too. I’ll always read anything that Radclyffe writes and as a huge paranormal fan, this series holds a lot of fond memories for me. This is a novella and the 8th book in the series. Book 7 was also a novella and is very connected to this story, almost like it is the other half of this book. I did like this a bit better than book 7, but they are both very connected. In fact, Rad is putting out a paperback version that will contain both book 7 and book 8 together.

To truly enjoy this book I would recommend starting the series at book 1. There is a huge cast of characters in this series (weres, vamps, mages, and Fae) with someone new getting a starring role in each book. For instance, I was really happy to see that Torren (my favorite character) and Jodi (another fav) both get some appearance time in this book. Actually, I’m wondering if that is supposed to be Torren on the cover. I love the cover and it might be my favorite of the whole series. Anyway, back on topic, because there are a lot of names to keep straight, it would not be easy jumping into the middle of this series. However, if you had to jump in, I would at least read book 7 before this one since they are so connected.

I was excited to see that the new alpha Zora, got her time to shine. I was interested in getting to know her more and I felt like she had some good wolfie chemistry with the woman she was attracted to. However, I was disappointed about not getting to know as much about her background as I wanted too. We did learn some new things, but I wanted to dive into her more as a person. I’m still hopeful we will get to learn even more about her in the future.

I must admit I was not happy about the M/F and M/F/F feeding/sex scenes that were in this book. Luckily, they were over quickly but I just don’t want to read sex scenes that are about people I don’t care about. In this case it was sex scenes involving the villains of the story. I have no interest in that and I can’t really agree with putting them in a novella. Yes, I can see it more if this was a full length book, but it’s not and instead it wasted precious short story time that could have been used for more of Zora’s background or even better, extending the action scenes.

As much as I love this series it has some bumps and more fluids than you will ever need. I’m still completely hooked anyway and will read this series as long as Rad writes it. On a good note, part of this book was setting the stage for something really big to happen next. I’m talking major conflict coming soon. I hope that means that book 9 will be a full length book that is packed with exciting action scenes. I also would not even mind if the book didn’t star anyone new and just let us spend time with our old favorite couples and even more of Zora. Rad just scratched the surface of her character and I would love to know more. This book is not out on Amazon until 9/15 but you can buy it now, like I did, off the Bold Strokes Books website.

3.75 stars. This series is fun to read. I don’t think this was one of the best books in the series, but I enjoyed reading it as always.

The book continues with the storyline started in the previous books about the Timberwolves, the Snowcrest wolves, the fae and the vampires. This is also why the books should be read in order to enjoy them best. As in all books there is a romance, which is a bit repetitive and perhaps unnecessary, as there are so many great couples already. The two characters though, Zora and Trent held my interest and I would like to read more about them, just like I would enjoy reading more about some of the previous couples.

Besides the romance, the story of Francesca continues and part of this book is set in faery. Even though I did enjoy the book I had the constant feeling that everything was just scratching the surface, I guess a novella was too short for my liking. A lot happens and sometimes chunks of time or actions seemed to be skipped and there was little room to get to know the newer characters like Zora. From what is happening (and where it seems to be leading to) there will be a 9th book in the series and I’m hoping it will be a full-length novel again. Comments have been made about all the fluids in this series, I could do with less as well, but at least Radclyffe is consistent throughout the series on this point, so there is that.

Fans of the series will most likely like this book as well, it may not be perfect but it’s entertaining and I for one look forward to the next book in the series.

Whenever I read through a series created by Radclyffe it feels like she has the whole story prewritten and she just places a bookmark on where to slice the story into separate novels. Radclyffe controls the tone and voice of her characters and stories so well it carries the readers effortlessly from book to book or novella to novella.
Enchanted Hunt is the eighth story in the Midnight Hunt series finding Sylvan and her Timberwolf clan coming to the aid of the Snowcrest wolves. Something is attacking this peaceful pack and Alpha Zora Constantine knows her pack is not enough to win the battle.
I am a huge fan of Radclyffe and have read her complete body of work. Her characters are so fully formed they walk easily through my imagination be they human, were, vampire or Fae. Enchanted Hunt includes all of these thankfully with an engrossing evolving storyline.

All I can say at this point is I want more!

I love wolves. Seriously, they're so awesome.

I loathe how short this story is, but I love this series as a whole. The connection between Drake and Sylvan, and their connection to their pack. It's awesome. Not only that, but their loyalty to their friends and allies is pretty amazing too.

I would have loved to see more interaction between Sylvan, Drake and their two pups, but more pressing matters came up. It's good to see the Timberwolves expanding in a sense, with Zora and Trent's pack. You can never have too many true and loyal friends.

If only humans were just as true and loyal.

I am not impressed by the lack of momentum with this book and the one immediately before in this series. Not only does it seem both books seem shorter, they lack the thrill and plots that make this series one of my favourite. Also need i say the eroticism is so bleak in this book that i had to wonder a couple of times if this is in the same series or not.

One of my favorite were series! I love Raands take on the paranormal. I’ve read the series several times and I never want it to end!
Raand’s world building is amazing. She has created a believable world full of humans, Were, Vampires, Mages, Fae, and Psi. Each book has a new couple falling in love, while still centering around Drake, Sylvan and the Timberwolf pack, and giving updates on the lives of the previous couples.
In book 8 we discover that Francesca is alive. She is living in a dying Fae mound with a few blood slaves and vampires. Aided by a Mage and some dark Fae. She is behind the Snowcrest attacks and missing were. The Mage is abducting them and using his powers to send the abominations he creates back to earth to attack.
We experience more of Faerie and have a request of aid from the Cecilia the Fae Queen.
The alliance between the Timberwolfs and the Snowcrest Pack is strengthen with bonds between Jace and Ash as well as Zora, the Snowcrest Alpha, and Trent. I love these new couples and the strength they bring to the alliance.
I love the time with Sylvan and Drake with their young. As well as, Niki and Sophia!
We learn that Rafe is more than she appears. I hope we see more of her as well as more of Val and their stories! I hope we get more Mages. We need some good Mages to counteract the bad one Francesca is allied with.
I hope we get another book soon. I’m in love with these characters and this series.

So....

The quest for peace and unity continues. This series keeps you on the edge of your seat. Bonds being formed.
But one still evades Sylvan and her allies. Also, are their any experiments left? What of the transformed human.
Still lots of questions. But I for one hopes this series continues. It has everything. Love, hate, mystery, war, peace. But what I love the most is how Radclyffe puts you right there. You can close your eyes and smell the fresh air of the mountains. See the lush green meadows and the dark forests.

I look forward to more adventures with Sylvan, Drake and their kids. It has my vote

This novella seemed really short. (I knew it would be short when the preview was just the blurb.) I wanted more in this story. Mostly this takes place in another pack's territory and features them the most. The Midnight Hunters world keeps expanding. One of Sylvan's officers, Trent, is training the Snowcrest pack to fight the otherworldly enemies who attacked in the previous book. Meanwhile, Trent wants Zora, but can't because that could cause a problem between the packs. The Snowcrests are attacked which pulls in Sylvan and her allies. They accomplish one task, but there will be more and I am ready for it.

I really love this series and I enjoy all of Radclyffe's books. I gave this a 3 because it is good but the characters are a bit under developed, that's what I usually find with a novella. It was also a loooonnnng drink between books and I'm not fond of cliffhangers.

This is the eighth book in the Midnight Hunters series. It was extremely shorter than the other books in the series. I was less impressed with this book because of the length being shortened which meant the couple felt even more insta-lovey. I feel like it really was love at first sight. I felt the ending was more of a cliffhanger vibe because there are so many questions unanswered and I will be excited to see the next book

As stated in my previous review:
Radclyffe does not disappoint on the erotica tag at all. I was a bit concerned with the insta-love vibe, but it definitely coincides with the fact that the Weres are able to sense their true mate. I am such a sucker for books where there are possessive and jealous love interests. This hits that right on the dot.

TW: t’s not g!p necessarily… but please read other reviews for a more in depth explanation.

I reread this series every Halloween and cannot recommend it enough. H to the o to the t.
➢Happy reading!

I am LOYAL…

I loved the mating of Sylvan and Drake. I loved the mating of Michel and Katya. The mating of Alpha Zora and Centuri Trent. The push/pull of how they were drawn together and the implications of it coming to fruition could destabilize the Snowcrest pack. Taking any of Sylvan Mir’s wolves…is almost suicidal. She is bonded to them all and they are HERS. She takes that bond very seriously. It is almost just as strong as the mate bond. But Sylvan has seen quite a few of her wolves mate with other preternatural like Vampire, Fae, Cat Were, and now out-packs. She has had one of her wolves become a Vampire Were. These new mating bonds also lends to new alliances that are changing the landscape of who are friends and who are foe.

I did not want this book to end. Now I must wait for the next installment. This series has become my most favorite series of all. I already know that I will be reading them over and over, over the years.

An XXX Erotic sex series disguised as fantasy

Full disclosure: I “purchased” the entire series. From one “book” to the next (and the term “book” is used sarcastically) the formula is the same: a paragraph or two followed by pages of XXX sex scenes. The bad part is, this had the potential to be a good series. When the author is not busy pandering “flesh” the writing, and more importantly the science she has built up behind the the storytelling to support the world she has crafted is really quite good. So fair warning, if you’re willing to scroll past XXX sex scenes to get to the snippets of good story telling like I did then read this series. I went through all 8 in less then two days. But I would scroll though 1:2 to 3/4 of the books. Or, those readers who WANT to read LOTS of blood, gore, sex and orgies with snippets of good storytelling, then read this series.

Not enough… Just too short

You know when a new book in a series comes out & you're all excited to continue with the saga you totally love only to find out that the book is basically novella like, shorter, less developed, less complex, less compelling… just less of all the things that enthralled & excited you in the first place?? Well this kinda feels like one of those books. Though still good enough to revive the warmth of reconnecting with the characters we love, it just felt like this was required more than inspired, which is an unavoidable reality of an uncontrollable entity, where writing what's necessary isn't always in line with the direction the creative juices are flowing. So hopefully, the next one will make it all better.

The Hunt Continues. I enjoy this series with its characters, both established and new. The story has minor reminders of what has come before so it can be read as a stand-alone with book 7 as a pair of novellas. Minor scenes from villain point of view could have been left out with no loss of story. I look forward to reading the next one with more Zora.

I liked book 1-6 in this series, 7-8 not so much.. It feels like it's written too quick, thrown in a lot (also def. too quick) sex and done. I am a bit dissapointed.
