This author did a fantastic job of including the information in multiple formats. Whether you learn by listening or reading, you can take something away from this.

I find the exercises to be key to my stress levels.

I'm not much of a self-help book person. Often I find them to be slightly revised and redundant versions of the one that came out before it. And some of them just give me the ick. But I heard an interview with Ricky Kalmon on his new book tour for "Leverage Your Mindset for Golfers," which sounds like a slightly revised, redundant version of this book...for golfers. Nevertheless, I found him very down to earth and likeable and found out that he's a career hypnotist. Intrigued to read a self-help book from the POV of a hypnotist, I picked up a copy.

What I found is a fourteen day challenge (one chapter per day) that combines concepts of self-hypnosis, meditation, self talk, habit building, and journaling to counter self-sabotage. None of these concepts were foreign to me and everything Kalmon presented was very beginner level. But the way he wove the techniques together presents an effective way to reinforce new thought processes. There was also strong focus on commitment, repetition, and ownership of the process to encourage continuation after the program ends.

Kalmon paired the book with a free app that provides a daily audio track of cliff notes for each chapter and a simple guided meditation. So you have the opportunity to read, listen, and participate in the material through journaling. Combining the three, it was about a 20-30 minute commitment per day. He also supported his program by citing twelve research studies, most of them from well-regarded publications and some of them incredibly interesting 🤓

Side note: I found myself hoping Kalmon would say this, but he didn't. So here I am. This isn't a guide for mental health. More of a way to become a self-starter, raise your ceiling, or motivate you to take chances in pursuit of your purpose or potential. If you approach it from a mental health standpoint, it can seem dismissive.

3.8 stars. Quick, enjoyable read, with a couple of real gems in it. Gets a little bit repetitive towards the end, but forgivable because the book in general is rather thin.
Accompanying audio app didn't work for me on Android, and unfortunately kept crashing, when trying to play the audio clips.
