A Decent Summary, But...

I have read a number of summaries by this publisher. They are written by different writers, and this is the most unique summary from this publisher I've yet seen. It is extremely well written; the writer is a good one, which hasn't always been the case in the publisher’s previous summary books. The writer, unfortunately, intersperses a lot of analysis of the book along with a summary of its chapters. So much so that at times I could not tell what was the author's own analysis of the original book and the original author's analysis of Baldwin's works. I think the book would have been better served if these lines were clearer. Obviously, the best way would have been to have a summary section clearly marked as such at the beginning of each chapter with an analysis section also clearly marked following it. I did find myself wondering whose opinions were whose sometimes! That should never be a question in a summary. Other than this issue, I thought this was a relatively decent summary of the original book looking at what James Baldwin's works have to say about our continuing racial issues in America.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
