Dark. Mysterious. Gorgeous. Loved by all the girls. Respected by all the guys. ...that was Kian Maston.
As the heir to a billion dollar empire, his future was promising until the day he saved my life. Everything changed for both of us, and there was one more word that could be used to describe him--dangerous.
The nation fell in love with him while falling in hate with me. He was sent to prison, and as far as they were concerned, it was my fault. I was forced to go into hiding until today.
Kian's being released from prison, and he should go back to being the golden boy he always was supposed to be. I should remain in hiding, living my life as normal as could be.
This book is called, Kian, but it should be called Jo... thinking about Kian. No I'm not trying to be funny, it's the truth. You know when a movie does really well, it becomes a blockbuster and everyone's talking about it? Then the producers decide to film a sequel but the actor playing the main character decides to opt out and not come back. So they still do a sequel but bring in new characters, but they mention the old characters and you might see pictures of them but they're never physically there. This is it right here. Same situation.
Jo, is a student at Hill Crest Uni but she's not the same girl she used to be. She's basically taken on a new name and persona. The media backlash she experienced after Kian killed her foster father was something she could never deal with. She could never lead a normal life. At this point I was quite into the book. Don't quote me but I think at 21% the H and h had still had no interaction. I was pretty much reading about Jo remembering her past, and the angst over her ex who wasn't her ex (Jake). Now don't get me wrong I don't mind reading about side characters with subplots. I really don't mind but when the actual story takes a backseat I get really pissed.
And then we have, Kian. The badboy, all broody and dark and hot and blah blah blah I don't even care anymore. I don't know maybe I misread the synopsis and ended up having different expectations to what his character really was. Look I gave up at 46% but dear God I tried. I really wanted to love this book, I wanted to love it so much. Let's just say Kian, is not much of a bad boy.
Something else that annoyed the crap out of me was Jo's inner monologues. She went from "Oh he's so hot, I want him so bad. Oh look he caught me ogling him *blushes* OMG he's so dangerous. Uuurgh I want him. To: Oh we can't be together this isn't right! OMG lemme go back to my ex who isn't my ex at least he's not as bad as him. Hey he used me and told me he'd broken up with his girlfriend even though he hadn't. And then he wanted to use me to make his girlfriend jealous and admitted it. Yes let me go back to him, because THAT MAKES COMPLETE FUCKING SENSE.*FYI none of these are quotes.
I'm sorry but I couldn't, I'm not cut out for these types of books. This was my second book by the author. I'd read Mason which was fantastic, I will read her other series because I think it's a better fit for me. But I found this book boring and the characters stupid.
Like just about every Tijan book I've read, this one grabbed my attention and held on right to the end. Nobody can sell a YA novel to me like Tijan can! A relatively short, standalone audiobook, I was able to finish it in 1-2 days commute time.
This story centers on Jordan, aka Jo, a college-aged girl that is hiding from her past. When Jordan was in high school, she was saved by Kian from an attack by her foster father. Kian was the billionaire "golden boy" of the town and she was a nobody.
When Kian was convicted for the murder of her stepfather, the nation turned on her. Surely, she had manipulated him or seduced him. No one wanted to believe that the good-looking, charismatic, rich kid could have committed such a heinous act on his own. He may have been convicted in the courthouse, but in the court of public opinion, Jordan was guilty.
After being persecuted by the media, Jordan reinvents herself as "Jo". She enlists the help of an FBI agent that became a sort of father figure to her. She changes her hair color, puts in some contact lenses to disguise her unique eyes and enroll in college.
This is where the story picks up. Kian is released from prison early, and word is that he's out for revenge. Rumor has it that Kian might be facing the possibility of a retrial and looking to shift the focus onto Jo this time around.
Of course, there was an immense physical attraction between the two that had yet to be explored. Eventually, the story gets there, but not until Jo has avoided Kian for a while. First, she ran around acting scared of him, as if he hadn't gone to prison for saving her life. Honestly, I didn't get that at all.
Aside from Jo's weird initial response to Kian, I thoroughly enjoyed this YA story. Yes, her behavior was irrational and sometimes irritating, but it did keep the story entertaining. Overall, a great listening choice.
I love Tijan but I didn't love this book. I was finding myself nodding off to sleep while reading. I was ready to not finish it around 20% but kept going thinking it would pick up. At 40% I'm still nodding off. The whole story just seems silly to me. Jo being in hiding. Jo being scared of Kian when he clearly saved her life and went to prison for it. Her being friends with the guy that cheated on her. Kian was not feeling dangerous to me at all. He was actually sweet. Soooooo boring! Defiantly wasn't feeling like I was getting the true Tijan drama that I usually love. Oh well...at least it was only .99. Hope she does a better job with Logan's book:)

Not even 15% in and I am quitting this shitty book.
I love Tijans work because it always has strong characters and it oozes raw angst. But first Sustain, and now this... I means whats up? because this so isn't like her at all.
This book just had some crazy babe lost in her own thoughts and random scenes all over the place. I can't do this shit. I read for entertainment, and this book was anything but.. not even 15% in and I feel asleep on the book. LOL
The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎 Character development: ☺️😉😀😘🥰
The heroine:Jordan Emery (a.k.a. Joselyn “Jo” Keene) - she just finished her sophomore year at Hilcrest University when she sees the former version of herself on the news. She has changed her hair, wears colored contacts gained a few pounds on her stick thin frame and has a new name thanks to an understanding FBI agent.
The Hero:Kian Maston - son to a billionaire, Kian was convicted of killing Edmund, the foster father of Jordan Emery. He was released after two years in prison. He had been a handsome guy and in a different league than Jordan Emery. The trial was a media circus in which he ended up looking like a prince while she was vilified. The media made Kian look like a hero who rescued her from an abuser while she just looked like the one at fault for the whole thing.
The Story: Jo just finished her final exams and is still at college with her friends when the news hits that Kian was released from prison. Jo finds out from the FBI agent that helped her hide, that Kian was released from prison because the judge was dirty. He tells her if there is a new trial, then Kian’s fancy legal team will most likely put the blame on Jordan. Kian has made it known that he wants to see Jordan. So the FBI agent tells her that Kian will probably find her since he has abundant wealth behind him.
The book is told in dual points of view via dual narration. Narrated by Graham Halstead and Saskia Maarleveld. Saskia has a soft feminine voice which is clear and a bit husky and it matches Jo perfectly. I didn’t really like Graham Halstead’s voice. It just didn’t match Kian. It was gravelly but just not deep enough. Though most of the chapters were in Jo’s point of view so it didn’t detract from the story much. He was a good reader and showed emotion in his voice, so that was a plus.
There was a good background story that created a connection between Kian and Jordan that lasted through everything each of them has been through. Though being together created its own problems. I really enjoyed this story and the romance between them. There were also some great supporting characters as usual in Tijan’s books. There was also a ton of chemistry between the main characters and I liked that Kian was a good guy but had a darkness inside him that he was afraid to let out.
The beginning of this book really piqued my interest and I was all over it until it began...
What you might wonder?
Well...her obsession (and that's putting in mildly) with Kian...
Yes...she thinks about him all the time...
...she"sees" him everywhere...
...she can't function without him...
...but she doesn't really know him...
I really love Tijan's writing style but not all the books by this author are for me...so I was on the fence about this one but tried to stick with it and finally I didn't regret it...not at all...
This is definitely one of those books you either love or don't...but one emotion you are not going to feel is indifference...that's for sure ;)
I had doubts about buying this one, because of all the mixed reviews. But then the sun shine upon me and put it on sale for 0,99$ well for me actually 1,16$ but stil a sale.
Hot damn how effin happy I am that I've bought it and read it.
Jordan had a hard life before everything happened afterwards the nation made it worse and made a guilty one out of her instead of the victim. Kian came at the right place and time! This story showed just how hard peole can be when they just follow the news and those things. Every story has two sides.
This had a dark and mysterious side throughout the book. I'm glad it was wrapped up fully. Even though I would've loved a full epilogue.
Although this book is not at all what I expected, I enjoyed it. It’s full of drama and suspense.
The main characters are well written. I had an immediate connection with Jo, but didn’t connect as well with Kian. I expected his character to be larger than life, but he fell a little flat. I'll admit, my expectations may have been too high since I didn't realize this was a NA read. I went in blind this time. In addition to that, the action takes place in the past and off the pages. We hear about it as Jo recalls her harrowing experience. It’s dramatic and interesting, but not as powerful since I didn’t have the opportunity to experience it along with the characters. That’s totally my quirk though.
Where this book excels is in the interactions and activities between the main and secondary characters. It brought up a lot nostalgic feelings. College is such a transitional time in a young person’s life. Those experiences are conveyed honestly and realistically in this book. It brought back fond memories of my best friend/roommate who had my back during our wild and wacky adventures. My experience was in no way traumatic like Jo’s, but unfortunately I know some women who have experienced one of the horrors discussed in this book. With that said, there is an adult situations and possible trigger warning.
Overall, this was a well-executed YA/NA novel. It explores the themes and tropes common in YA, so if that’s not your thing this isn’t the book for you. If you enjoy YA or NA, add this one to your list.
Audiobook review: The narration was really good. The book is dual POV (which I love). It's narrated by Graham Halstead and Saskia Maarleveld. Both excelled in their performances. I would recommend this version.
I was a bad guy. I had done bad things but never to her. I wanted her to know that. She was the exception. She was the one, the only one, my soul would uphold above all else.
Overall Opinion: I was disappointed in this one. I thought the storyline was promising, but it was just kind of meh for me. I didn't quite understand their connection (other than being through something traumatic), and I thought their characterizations fell kind of flat for me too. There was some mystery got in on for a long time since we didn't get the full details of what happened that day of the murder until close to the end, but I think that was the only thing keeping me reading the story -- and it was more out of simple curiosity and not "by the seat of my pants" intrigue (like I was expecting).
Storyline: This is Jordan and Kian's story. They are intertwined by a traumatic history of Kian killing Jordan's foster father to protect her and going to prison. The story starts almost 3 years later when Jordan has become Jo and is going to school where no one knows who she is. She is hiding because during the trial she was blamed for Kian's actions, and attacked by the media and public constantly (Kian comes from an extremely wealthy family and is good looking, so the public took his side immediately). He was released from prison early because they found that the judge was corrupt, and the media craze starts up again. Through some clandestine meetings, the couple meet and start developing feelings. There is more media drama, friend drama, family drama, but the couple find some peace and a HFN.
POV: This alternated between Jordan and Kian's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Ok. It was slow at first, then was pretty consistent, then seemed to move really fast over things at the end and abruptly end. I personally didn't like the pace.
H rating: 3 stars. Kian. He was mysterious, but really cared for Jordan.
h rating: 3 stars. Jo/Jordan. She was given a bad hand for sure, and she seemed like a good friend.
Sadness level: Low. I didn't need any tissues.
Heat level: Low. Not quite fade to black, but it transitioned from descriptions of making out to summarizing experience on emotional level.
Descriptive sex: No
Sex scene with OW or OM:
Cheating:
Possible Triggers:
Closure: Abrupt ending that didn't give me enough closure at all. I would say at the most it was a HFN ending.
Worth the $?: It was on my scribed subscription, so yes. At the .99 on Amazon I would say that since its so cheap -- yes still worth the $.
I don’t know what it is with this book, but it’s always a success. I love both of the MC’s which is not easy given my expectations for FMC are always so high they never meet them. But Jordan was so good and Kian was dreamy. As unbeliavable the plot might be, the story just works.
Tijan’s old books are so much better than the latest ones.
This book came out of nowhere! I saw the SEXY cover, read the intriguing blurb, and BAM! I've never 1-clicked a book so fast in my life! Now, don't shoot me, but I'm new to Tijan's work. I've stalked her on social media for a long time and I've even met her at a book signing a year or so ago. Her other series has been on my TBR list for as long as I can remember, but there was something about KIAN that struck me as needing to read this ASAP! There was a certain pull that I got after reading the reviews and reading the synopsis over and over again. So, I purchased it and read it all in one single night. Let me start off by saying, DAMN! That was good! This author's writing is mesmerizing! I knew I would be hooked, and here I am a few hours after the fact and I'm still thinking about it!
"I'm the bad guy. Don't you get it?"
One word for Kian Maston...YUM! He is your bad boy protector. He will make you swoon all over the place! He is a hero you will root for until the very end. There is quite a bit going on in this suspenseful read, but do yourself a favor and stick with it! Don't give up! The first half of the book is a build-up for sure, and when you get to the second half, everything will be worth it. Mystery, intrigue, and enough sexual tension to shake a stick at, KIAN will have you on the edge of your seat, shivering with desire, and panting from all of the angst. There will be doubt, confusion, anxiety, and tension; your mind will be working overtime for sure. Tijan gives us characters to fall in love with, to cheer for, to become invested in. For me, this was a FANTASTIC introduction to an author that I've been wanting to read for a while now. I'm so glad, this shot up to the front of the list!
This book was not the usual that I love from Tijan... Not at all.
It's all over the place and I don't know... Something seemed off since the beginning.
Jo was annoying and a walking talking contradiction almost the entire book.
Kian was the bad boy who wasn't bad at all. But even him was kinda of flat.
I don't really know where things were coming or going and honestly to God, when the credits for the audiobook started to roll up, I had to hit 30 seconds back, because I was like "That's it?"
The Narration of the girl was really good, while the guy unfortunately, wasn't.
I'll stop now... Not my favorite from this author.
I picked this book up last night when I saw someone had shared it on FB. I had not seen or heard of it before then. I CONSUMED this book today even with going to work.... It fucking ROCKED!!!!!
What can I say... it's a Tijan book, that should be enough. :) This woman gets me. I love her writing style and the way she builds up her Storys. Exactly my kind of of angst and drama with a HEA.
To the Story: Jo/Jordan is a college girl, who is hiding from her past. When she was in high school, her life was at stake.
Kian saved her that night, what sends him after his trial to prison.
The media blamed Jordan that Kian was in prison for saving her and made her life hell. She changed her name to Joslyn Keen and left her hometown. After two years Kian was released from prison, due to a dirty judge at his trial. So her and Kians story is all over the news again.
The synopsis for this book and my love my Tijan had me excited about this book. Unfortunately it just wasn't for me. There was so many times I wanted to stop reading it, but Kian intrigued me enough to keep reading and I also thought something interesting was going to end up happening. There was a lot of side stories and things happening that really didn't need to be in the book and just caused more confusion (and then lack of interest). I will of course still read Tijan's books, this one just wasn't for me
I didn't read the blurb I just really wanted the cover. Once I had the book in my hands I dove in. I had no clue what I was getting into. This book was a little rough around the edges. My heart literally broke, the sneaking, the drama, the tension, and the love had my head spinning!! The book devoured me.
Jo/Jordan didn't have it easy growing up. In and out of foster care, and into the home of a drunk put her at high risk. The ex boyfriend was no better. Kian killed the man that was attacking her. He gets sent to prison. When he gets out he does everything in his power to find Jordan
This had an intriguing storyline to it and I was fascinated from the start. I am one who likes more couple time, so I felt like it could have used more. Overall, I like that this was unique and how could you not fall for Kian??
I liked the premise of the story. Kian saved Jordan's life, but still went to prison after she testified. I thought he would be angry and come after her for revenge, but Kian was sweet and actually cared about Jordan. She was wishy washy and I wanted her to make up her mind lol. I would have liked more from Kian's point of view and more than one romance scene. The story was fairly predictable, but it had cute moments. I didn't like Jordan's roommate Erica, she wasn't the most understanding person and kept getting drunk ha. The narration wasn't bad, the guy actually sounded young like Kian so that's a bonus. Easy read.
2.5 stars. As far as stories went this wasn’t bad but it lacked serious chemistry between the main leads. Everything between the H and H felt stilted and stiff. It made it uncomfortable reading.
I can't believe Tijan wrote this. I love her books. But this was just horribly boring for me. The entire beginning with her friends was a load of useless tripe!! Pages upon pages of discovery that didn't add to the plot or story.
From the get go, you knew exactly where this was going to go. And it went there as you predicted minus some much needed buildup and angst like other Tijan books.
The heroine's best friends was annoying as hell and she took too much of the books time, even though her part was essential to the plot. Even the heroine's job and the things that went on there with her coworkers... pages of uselessness. It added nothing to the end result.
You know when you crave a juicy burger? And when you get it, it has a skinny ass patty and two HUGE buns and toppings which makes the burger bigger, but takes over from the meat? That was what this book was for me. Lots of toppings and not enough meat.
Tijan has a very specific style. She creates characters with psychological struggles (but dealing with them every well) and life events, which are interesting and unusual.
Kian tells the love story between a girl who is on an unofficial witness protection program to hide from the media and a boy who got into jail for saving her by killing someone from her past. The idea behind is definitely interesting, but the book itself is rather uneventful.
What I dislike the most is that the main couple doesn’t interact with each other for at least the first 50% and when they finally do, their love is “instant”.
Like always with Tijan there are interesting side characters, but some of them (like ex boyfriend) get more story than Kian so I’m not sure if this is that good for the romance.
