Catriona (Cat) Sinclair, fresh out of film school and keen to impress, starts her career in television as an assistant to the film editor at Montpellier Media, California’s sharpest and most profitable TV Channel. She is hired under the radar of the female CEO, Katherine Konrad, but within hours of starting, Cat discovers nothing about her new life is going to be straightforward.Raised by her hippy artist mother in Portland, Oregon, Catriona has never followed the crowd, and she certainly doesn’t fit in at Montpellier. Her colleagues dress and act like wannabe starlets, and seem to despise her on sight. Her line manager, Frankie, is a man whose career is in trouble, and it takes all her energy to keep him in his job in charge of “Montage”, Montpellier’s current affairs program. Cat begins to question why she stays.Maybe the answer lies on the top floor of the Montpellier building. Katherine Konrad, CEO, beautiful, quick-witted and a broadcasting legend, has played verbal mind-games with Cat from day one. But Katherine’s quips are often barbed and her wit acidic. She is unpredictable and her private life is a mystery.Events bind the two women together, literally as well as figuratively as they embark on a much closer relationship expected. It’s a struggle for emotional survival, but then Cat discovers the truth about Katherine. Will she run for the hills, or be drawn into the battle as her boss fights with her own past? Summer in the city, two women in love, and the heatwave is not the only thing sizzling. A seductive age-gap story of love and loss, danger and delight.

Lights, Camera, Action!
Fresh out of film school, Catriona, AKA Cat, starts work at a prestigious production company run by the intimidating and hard as nails Katherine, also known as Kat. From the start, Catriona (as the big Kat insists she goes by) is not terribly impressed by her surroundings. It seems like all the women are icy clones who snub the different Cat, her manager is basically in over his head and near useless, making Cat’s main responsibility to cover his ass. She’s not sure she really wants to stay… but there is the reason she wanted to work here in the first place, Kat… Kat is impressed by the charming and independent, free thinking Catriona who challenges her and keeps a close eye on her under the guise of making her report on her manager whom she wants to fire. As the women grow closer, certain truths come to light and decisions must be made. When danger strikes, will all be lost?

Oh my! This is a great story! I love age gap romances anyway but this one was so good. I loved how well written it is. It was captivating and interesting, the plot line strong, the characters wonderful and engaging, the leads easy to care about and want the best for them. I loved how both Cat and Kat how well they cared for the other, one was able to be vulnerable while the other was strong for her and vice versa. I loved that Kat had this hidden human side and Cat was so easily able to fit in. The romance was heat filled and intense yet there were insecurities and reassurances that filled my mushy heart with such happiness! I just delighted in this story and I think you will too.

DNF @ 11% :( I was so excited after reading the reviews and the description, but as soon as I started reading it just didn’t grab me and the ice Queen did not sound or act like an ice Queen. At least not how I’m used to and that was just too much of a turn off. I simply couldn’t feel that click.

This story drew me in from the start. I love Ice-Queen and age-gap stories and from the first meeting of both MC‘s I knew I will love this book. The discussion about their short form of their names was just too funny. Not to forget the handcuffs scene and just generally the back and forth between them. hilarious. I had to laugh out loud so many times. I couldn’t put it down. Sometimes halfway through the book the pace changed. At least that’s how I felt. The pace got slower. I liked that a lot. How the story including the heavier topics was revealed by the author was wonderful. I won’t say more here just that I definitely recommend this one and I’m glad there will be more from Kat and Cat. For me a must read.

Weird and possibly controversial

This book was a little weird and the pov jumped all over the place in a sort of messy way, there were some sensitive topics I thought could have been handled better. The three daughters all had "A" names so remembering who was who was impossible, but they're not really in the story much, it it was fine, though i would have liked it if they were more involved. Maybe in book two though, we'll see. The wording and dialog switched between American English and British English, which was notable mostly because both main characters were American, from the PNW and the NE but living in Cali. That might be less notable for someone who isn't familiar with one or the other, but tons of my fav authors are from the UK and there were several times the characters in my head suddenly sounded British, because if they'd said the same thing in American English they'd need to be upper class from the deep south.
The pacing of the story was strange and there wasn't much action, a lot of telling as opposed to showing...
But weirdly none of that put me off. I fully enjoyed reading the book. It was funny, and balanced predictable splitting with some surprises out of left field, so that was cool. If you're just looking for an easy read, particularly if you have KU, I'd say go for it.

The plot arc, as with most, has been done before. However about 70% in, the arc moves to territory that is more unusual and doesn't really match in with the mood of the rest of the book. That isn't a criticism, it is actually well done. Although reading about something deeply unpleasant, it isn't done in a deeply unpleasant way. There is a lot of tell in the beginning, but it is done in a way that isn't bothersome. Quite a bit of time passes quickly, but that is realistic for a relationship to develop.
This is an amusing book. There are some literal laugh out loud lines. There is also some stilted sentences, but as they are only from one character I think that is in character. All in all, this book is good. Sometimes it looked like it would veer in to PWP (plot, what plot) territory but there was plenty plot - and less of the usual PWP content.

Very disappointing. I really don't understand why this book has an average rating of more than 4 stars. The point of views are sometimes confusing. The main characters are flat and there is no build up in the story. I have often thought of putting the book down to never pick it up again. But... more than 4 stars average and many people gave it 5 stars, so something must be coming up. There wasn't really. Although the second half of the book was a little less boring than the first. That's why I managed to finish it anyway. But it was an effort and I was glad I was done with it.

Catriona might have what it takes to go far in the film/media industry but she's got to put in the work as she's just out of school. Katherine is a the head of a mega large media company, resident ice queen and mystery to all. Kat typically approves all hires but somehow Catriona gets hired anyhow. On Cat's first day on the job she meets Kat. How can there be two K/Cats in the building? Catriona's got her work cut out for her.

Heatwave ( Behind the Camera Book 1)

Age gap love story .This was a good story and read, Catorina (Cat) gets a job with the Montepellier Media as P.A to Frank Carfax senior editor it's a start as she has been following the CEO Katherine Konrad career for six year. This story covers some heartbreaking things in it and makes the story an interesting one.

Enjoyable read..loved it

This is my 2nd book by Maggie McIntyre and loved both. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Age gap - work romance - boss is a bitch storyline. I really liked Katherine's character, although she was seen as a cold hearted boss etc she had a good reason to be. Now waiting for book 2.

A real gem.Funny, witty, quirky... delightful. (With some harsh reality in there.) Romantic but down-to-earth real and utterly relatable. I could point out things that I might consider “flaws” but I enjoyed it so much why would I do that?

Very good book

I really enjoyed this story and the characters. I will definitely read the next book in the series. I love stories with strong imperfect women. I can certainly relate. We all have a past and it is great to read about others as well. I highly recommend.

A tad overdramatic

The book was a decent read and I liked Cat and Kat, even the part where they reset and went back to the beginning of their relationship to start dating but I did find some parts really over dramatized, like Kat's history or the ending.

Loved loved!!! I am so happy that I could read the book and know when the older woman was speaking. It did not sound so juvenile.
Katherine Hepburn …my absolute idol! So very much appreciated that nod!
