Wanting him will shatter you…
As the daughter of the most prominent defense attorney in the country, my life is lavish, privileged, indulgent—and supposed to be set in stone. But no matter how perfectly safe my life may seem… It still couldn’t save me.
Drugged, abducted, and about to be auctioned by human trafficker’s, there is no happy ending for me; and all I can do, is pray for a quick death before I’m handed off to one of these monsters.
Except my new captor isn’t like the others. He says darkness is where he feels most confident. Bloodshed is what fuels his ego. And now, he owns me. There is only one escape from my Monster, and that’s to make him fall in love with me. If I can do that, I can break free.
But what I think is the key to my freedom, only leads me further down this dark labyrinth of lies, desire, and seduction.
And just when I think I’m free—I realize the cage around me is so much bigger than I could’ve ever imagined.
Monster is the first book in the dark mafia romance trilogy, Sold To The Don, from author Callie Vincent. This book contains dark themes and is intended for readers 18+
This should have been exciting. Sounded like a good dark romance. She's kidnapped ,sold, held hostage.... I was bored. Nothing happened. Oh a gun fight here or there . But most book was just her in basement. .....fighting with him over clothes of all things. I did not feel any chemistry between these two. It was worded and wrote but I didn't feel it.and then after pleasantries of meals small talk some hinting at things we end finally with them sleeping together and him leaving supposedly going home( his real one ) and his " wife" that his hostage asked him about( starring at her at a party they went 2) breaks in just to inform her that you are being played .so shock value at end which for me was the most exciting part of book then end . Wasn't interesting enough for me to bother writing on my reminders .
Having read the entire trilogy my first comment would be that "this series was too long and too drawn out". As an avid reader of Mafia genre I found this book and the characters frustrating and the story line not well defined. The first book of a trilogy usually lays the foundation for the books that follow. Book One had its moments, thus the 3.5 rating but overall was not as well written as I would have hoped with gaps and lack of story development that was pertinent to this book and the books that followed. Teo's obsession with Beverly wasn't clearly defined nor was there enough backstory to help you understand what he was all about. Yes, he was out to destroy Lorenzo and his family because of the sex trade/auctions etc., but the whole thing seemed not well planned out on Teo's part. He seemed like he was flying blindly in his quest.
Beverly's kidnapping takes place on an abandoned beach, late at night and results in her being auctioned off. How stupid does a female defense attorney who specializes in criminal defense wind up on an abandoned beach in stiletto's and a gala dress without a gun or any form of protection? The kidnappers know who she is but yet she doesn't connect the dots that mommy dearest is behind the entire abduction until the final chapters of the last book. As evidence builds throughout book 2 and three, Bev is still in denial that her mother is corrupt and at the center of her abduction. Her character had it's moments where she actually seemed smart in how she handled some decisions but is riddled with stupid decisions that get her into more mayhem, torture and chaos.
Finally, Teo's treatment of Bev reminded me of a person who suffers from a bi-polar condition. He was either completely and unnecessarily mean and horrible to her when he didn't need to be or he was trying to woo her. I literally got whiplash as his character went from monster to lover in breakneck speed.
I did read the series and although the next two books of the trilogy had their moments too, the torture and near death experiences that Beverly undergoes is over the top. This story could have been a two book series. Sometimes stories riddled with too much blood and gore and chaos loses sight of the most important thing....the actual story, characters and plot.
Question - what type of name for a character is Charlotte Pettigrew. Expected a prissy schoolteacher not a hot lawyer.
The opening chapters were captivating. The dialogue was set, a cup of coffee ready and off I went. Unfortunately, as the storyline continued, I struggled to keep focus. No disrespect to Jess, this read left me seeking more. Matteo - purchaser of kidnapped Charlotte. A mobster seeking justice for women kidnapped and being sold. Though with Charlotte, he was seeking something else.
Was left on a cliffhanger, but at this stage, may not seek next instalment. Sorry…..
Oh! I hate cliffhanger when they aren't expected. I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait for a conclusion. But I'm invested and curious. It's a mysterious story of captivity, twists, secrets and betrayals. Very slow burn and surprises, but also intense and entertaining. Stay tuned!
This novel took awhile to finally get really interesting and then BAM! Cliffhanger ending. Am I mad? Oh, you betcha. And the next book is $3.99 on Amazon. I hate that! So not right. I want to find out what happens, but no way. I am not paying any money to someone who uses tricks to sell books like a smarmy used car salesman. Nope.
Cliff hanger for sure. Haven't quite figured out what ending this will be. Theo, Charlotte started out normal in a sense. I actually believe Charlotte's mother bailing on the trip was a set up.. Still do to a degree. There is another angle working. Book 2 will hopefully go me more answers. Can't ait.
The story has you hooked the moment you begin to read. If your not a patient person you might want to wait for the second book before you dive into this captivating read.
This is an Amazing story that makes you wonder just what is going on 😲. First it looks one way, then just when you think you figured it out, something completely different happens 😉. Thanks Callie, this is a GREAT story and I can't wait to read more 🤓.
