A spirit is haunting Ember and her pub. You could say she’s got a paw-tergeist.
But that’s not even the worst part. There’s another dead body that’s been found, this time in a nearby inn. The victim? A devious husband who left behind his jilted wife and cheated business partner. Usually a matter for the police, except this time the murder is affecting the reputation of the inn owner, Luka, who is also Ember’s dear friend..
With the help of her beau, Cedric, Ember needs to clear Luka of the crime while finding the suspect. That’s going to be hard because most of the signs point straight to her.
On top of all that, Ember has another mystery she needs to solve. Her boyfriend Cedric claims she had a sister, but Ember doesn’t remember anyone like that from her past. It’s like someone just made the memories just vanish from her mind.
And who in tarnation is haunting her pub? Pranking customers and playing tricks on Ember and her staff?
It’s going to take a wolf-shifter sheriff, a witch, and her snarky feline familiar along with all their friends to close these mysteries to tie up all these loose ends before someone ties Ember up for good!
In the murder way. Not the dating way (It’s not that kind of book!)
Magical mystery! The former book ended with a cliffhanger. Something about Ember's personal life. So, apart from a murder mystery, this book also has a missing person mystery. But since the murder mystery happened at the business of one of Ember's friends, solving the murder gets priority. Another dosis weird people, magic and blood. I really enjoyed this! I am in love with the Kitten Witch Cozy Mystery series by Corrine Winters. Kali, the cat featured on each cover, is the confidant and familiar of Ember who owns the Broken Broom pub. Winters has well-developed characters and plot in this murder mystery series that introduces the reader to witches, fae, shape-shifters, and tourists who have no idea they're visiting a town full of magical folk.
I am truly enjoying this series. There is one storyline that has spanned two books now, which I am very curious about and also, extremely disturbed the main character isn't taking more seriously. The murder mystery was good. The main character and love interest are sweet together.
Ember McNair smiled at her laughing customers enjoying her Broken Broom pub. She noticed a stranger – and she knew almost everyone in this small town – who had a sort of manic aura about him as he conversed with a couple of teenage tourists. By his side was a bag with several carved stakes poking out! He freely admitted he was hunting vampires and he said she, an apparent non-believer, would be the first who gets taken by a supernatural creature! Holding back a grin, Ember wondered what he would think if she turned him into a toad and poked him with one of his sticks! As she was about to close up later, she saw that all of her wine glasses were now stacked into pyramids on each table! Who could have done that without her noticing? The tables had been clear when the last of the staff went home. Was it an implied message of some sort?
Fairy Tales Inn was still full of light and sound when everything else was closed up. Luka Reynolds’ Inn was popular, but it got frustrating when the guests wouldn’t go to bed! Many gathered downstairs listening to the old vampire-hunter, George Franks, were locals and not even staying here, yet munching on the free food she provided to her guests! It was past 11 PM, so she announced the dining room was closing and non-paying guests needed to go home. When she finally climbed into bed, a ruckus of raised voices broke out upstairs. A young couple was arguing and she asked them to quiet down as Jennie stormed out of the door to announce she was going for a walk, slamming the door behind her.
Preparing breakfast the next morning, Luka was about to tell Emma and Paul about George Franks and the arguing couple when a scream sounded from upstairs. A crowd was gathered in front of Room 7 and Jennie was staring down at her husband, Jeffrey Wilson, who was lifeless on the bed with a stake protruding from his bloody chest! She immediately called Sheriff Cedric Jamison, and then passed out on the carpet!
Ember stopped by to check on her friend, Luka, and she examined the now emptied room since the police had taken everything with them. She returned to her pub, broke up an argument about butt-touching (which her familiar, Kali, told her the man had not lied and had not touched the waitress), and suddenly there was a loud scream! Another waitress, Annie, told her something had grabbed her! It appears the pub was being haunted by something! And even memories of a sister Cedric says she had no longer exist in Ember’s mind. Is she going crazy?
There is so much going on here to be figured out. The mystery will capture the reader and pile on the excitement as one thing after another happens! The characters are well-portrayed, and the story line is fast-paced and intriguing! Grab your copy and see what trouble has arrived in the small town of Cauchemar.
I enjoyed Temporary Paws, I also enjoyed the first book and will probably enjoy the 3rd book, but the author is a bit sloppy. There are a few small errors, for example using "ancestor" instead of "descendant", or " pet" instead of "petted." These small errors interrupt the flow of the story but are minor. There are odd details (warning - possible spoilers). Much of the story takes place in a pub/restaurant, yet the characters are frequently getting sandwiches from a Kathy's Korner. If Ember is so fond of chicken salad on croissant, why doesn't she serve the sandwich? If Ember and Cedric have known each other their whole lives, why are they suddenly dating? If a character is lingering in town in a cheap motel, is it because the investigation is incomplete? And if the investigation is not complete why would the insurance pay out? And where does one buy design bags and jewels in such a small town? Gabriel is a fun character, but as he is on standby for pranks I was expecting him to be used cleverly to catch the killer. George was a funny and intriguing character, but he dwindled and left town without any impact. Luna complains that the town folk think she is guilty so no one will stay at her in, but you people who stay at an inn typically come from outside the town. Ember is a witch, but her powers are sketchy, sometimes she can apparate, other times she hides in a closet. Her abilities seem random; it is more fun to see a character work with her abilities, like James Bond works with the tools from Q, than to have random powers. I realize that I am not picking. The story held my interest. The characters were either pleasant or pleasantly awful. The plot made sense in the end. I liked the book. But I would have preferred fewer nits to pick.
As always, a trip to Cauchemar, LA is never complete without a murder for Ember and Cedric to solve together. I do love how they work so well together, and she's able to use some of her magic abilities to help sometimes. There was the side mystery of finding Ember's sister which I thought was so sweet of Cedric to dig into when he had a chance. Then another funny little mystery was going on at the pub. Some invisible magical being was playing tricks on the staff and customers. It was hilarious to think about Ember scrambling to for example, unlevitate a table before her non-magical customers saw it. The trickster was revealed, and an agreement of sorts took place.
At times, I was so sure whodunit as far as the murder went, but this author is good with red herrings and makes you want to believe them all, lol. It did end up being who I originally thought, but I found myself veering off that track sometimes. The showdown was awesome, and the very ending was super sweet with a little bit of a question to be answered in the next book, which I'm going to borrow from KU very soon!
This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. Amber McNair happens to be a witch in a small Louisiana town. She runs a local pub that has been her family for generations. She lives in a small apartment above the pub along with her familiar a cat. A ghost of one of her ancestors also happens to hang around the pub and helps her out acquiring information by listening in around town every so often. Her best friend happens to be a bat shifter. Her boyfriend is the local town sheriff who is a wolf shifter. There are many supernaturals around town as well as humans. For the most part the humans are unaware of the supernatural community. Amber has a very good knack for solving mysteries. So every time there is a crime or murder mystery that needs to be solved Amber and sometimes it with the help of her friends is there to help the sheriff solve the mystery. Very entertaining and a fun read. Check it out
This is book 3 of the series and each book can be read as a stand alone. The underlying story line is progressive but it is not necessary to read the others before reading this book. This is a paranormal, cozy mystery with a hint of romance.
Ember finds herself once again helping Cedric and the police department solving another murder. She must do what she can to protect her friend Luka from being arrested for murder in her inn.
Written as a 3rd person, multi pov with a completed mystery ending. There is a bit more romance than in the previous book. Good story line, nice characters, good detailed descriptions.

Leah is the proprietress of one of the best hotels in town, but one night she breaks up a fight between a couple staying at her inn. When he is found dead the next morning, staked with a wooden stake belonging to another guest, she becomes a suspect as she has the master key to all rooms. Ember, the local witch and sleuth, works together with her boyfriend Cedric, the local sheriff, to solve the crime. A typical cozy mystery with some additional fun provided by a haunting at Ember's cafe and bar. An entertaining story, easy to read and fun. This book is in a series, I did feel like I was missing out by licking it up without reading the previous as there was a story continuation. That was only one part of the plot though, there was another mystery to focus on.
I found this book fun and refreshing. I didn’t find any of that stereotypical nonsense you sometimes find in paranormal books. The characters related well with each other and the story had a real great flow.

Things are really going great with Ember and Cedric. So romantic! But there is another murder to solve. There are also strange things are going on in the pub. The table stuck to the ceiling was great! Oh, there is also a vampire hunter in town! That guy gave me some good laughs! Really fun series.

Ember’s friend Luka is a suspect in the murder of one of her guests at the Fairy Tales Inn and Ember is determined to find the truth, even when it lands her in danger. I enjoyed this mystery, and especially liked how considerate Cedric is with Ember.

This book has the perfect formula for a good cozy mystery with a witchy pub owner with a talking cat in a small town. The characters could have more depth and the mystery was predictable. It's as if the sheriff did no investigating because the typical procedures were never looked at. It's a good story for a light read.
Really good story. Characters mostly likable ,warm and engaging. Plot flowed well ,was well thought out and held your interest. Satisfying conclusion even though it's a cliff hanger.
Another good book in the series. Ember gets to help Luka this time, solving a murder at the Inn. An expected, yet unexpected twist/cliffhanger at the end. I can hardly wait to see what Ember says to Cedric!
I am really enjoying this series. This story was fun to read. Did not get into the mystery of the missing sister, maybe next book. So some changes are about to come about and I wonder how that’s gonna work out???
I liked the plot and characters, but several questions were not answered for me. Maybe the author will provide answers in the next book. Will purchase and find out! Love Kali!!!
Luck comes in three’s and this being book three of this series is loaded with lots of action and excitement. After reading the first two this is a must reading.
Love this book, this is my favourite one out of the 3 Ive read so far!! Another great murder mystery featuring a vampire hunter who doesn't really no anything about vampires lol and a naughty trickster who's up-to no good invading Embers pub.
I like that Cedric showed his more protective side when Ember was hurt. Loved the ending, but whats the answer!!!!! looking forward to finding out in the next book :)
