Atlanta Then and Now is a captivating chronicle of history and change since the dawn of the camera age. It pairs historic photographs, many over a century old, with specially commissioned views of the same scene as it exists today showing the evolution of Atlanta.
•The capital of the New South, Atlanta blends the old-Southern charm and hospitality of its history with the fast pace and energy of the modern millennial city. •With comprehensive data about the city’s evolution, this new compact edition of Atlanta Then and Now is the perfect take-along size for locals and tourists alike. •Whether you’re a city slicker or a nature lover, this book offers stunning views of everything from sculpted skylines to wooded drives and green spaces. •Stroll through the water jets of the Fountain of Rings, part of Centennial Olympic Park—21 acres of green space—created for the 1996 Olympic Games. •Visit the historic Biltmore Hotel and see how it has been renovated into office, retail, and residential space.
I am an absolute sucker for this sort of coffeetable book: such that shows a photo of a familiar spot taken 100 years ago and then, a current photo taken from the exact same spot. I missed an entire party one night because I holed myself up in a corner with this book. The motto of Atlanta: Then and Now is: Atlanta Now sure likes to trash a lot of its beautiful old Andrew Carnegie-era archetecture in favor of parking garages.
