Rosie is fairly certain that there’s nothing wrong with putting a love spell on a foreign prince. At least she hopes there's not, because such a drastic measure is necessary in order for her to ensure that the perfect fairy tale romance she’s dreamt about her entire life includes her own prince charming. As the heroine in her story, she won’t be deterred by well-meaning friends, royal betrothals, hungry dragons, or the intriguing guard who stands in her way.
Luckily, Rosie has access to an enchanted bakery and a recipe book of spells, one of which will ensure she’ll win the royal heart she desires. Unfortunately, no story is complete without a few obstacles, and Rosie’s comes in the form of a most formidable foe—a stoic guard whom Rosie may or may not be developing feelings for, one who is committed to thwarting her at every turn. But nothing will stand in the way of Rosie’s happily ever after. After all, what harm can a simple love spell do?
Camille Peters was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah where she grew up surrounded by books. As a child, she spent every spare moment reading and writing her own stories on every scrap of paper she could find. Becoming an author was always more than a childhood dream; it was a certainty.
Her love of writing grew alongside her as she took local writing classes in her teens, spent a year studying Creative Writing at the English University of Northampton, and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in English and History. She’s now blessed to be a full-time author.
When she’s not writing she’s thinking about writing, and when’s she’s not thinking about writing she’s…alright, she’s always thinking about writing, but she can also be found reading, at the piano, playing board games with her family and friends, or taking long, bare-foot walks as she lives inside her imagination and brainstorms more tales.
Writing Spelled was by far the most fun I've ever had throughout my writing journey...until I had to revise it and try and tame Rosie's antics and imagination. But the difficult revision was worth it, for I'm very happy with how Rosie's story and growth turned out. I hope you enjoy experiencing Rosie's journey discovering her true love.
Oh Rosie...Rosie, Rosie, Rosie. You are a very mischievous character, all in the name of true love though, right? When you believe in true love and know it's out there, how can you not try all within your powers to make sure you find your prince? Even if it means baking up a magical love potion. It's all for love, so nothing could go wrong. Right?....maybe?
If you read book one, Pathways, then you have already met Rosie and know that she is a dreamer, storyteller, baker and mischief maker. If you haven't read Pathways and are just starting with this book then you might not know what to think about Rosie at first. But to all readers, whether you've read book one or not, Rosie is not a perfect character. She needs to make mistakes, have some failures, learn some things and go through her own little trial so she can come out stronger, better and happier. So don't go into this story thinking that our heroine is perfect. Sit back, relax and trust that Rosie will have her moments of frustration but all will turn out right in the end.
Rosie is a dreamer and her imagination can often send her into stories in her head. Try to keep up with her many antics and adventures. She will definitely keep you on your toes for this story. She might not be a character for all readers but she won my heart in the end. When I read Pathways I knew she was a very determined character and that came out very strongly in her personality throughout this book. But thankfully she has a group of good friends who watch out for her and help her through her mishaps and antics. Eileen, Prince Aiden, Prince Liam, Alastair the guard, her family. And I have to say that I didn't quite see the twist at the end. I loved it! I laughed out loud and giggled, of course that was after my mouth hung open for a second of, "oh my word I did not see that coming." It was great! Nice job Camille Peters. You certainly surprised this reader.
If you love adventures, silly characters, fanciful antics, love potions, spelled princes, true love, character growth, best friends, fairy tales, perseverance, late night exploring and adventures, dragons, knights, castles, gardens, and much more, this is definitely a book I will recommend for you.
The old adage is true..."Don't judge a book by its cover." Well, I'm going to change it just a touch, "Don't judge a Rosie at the beginning of the book." I hope you have fun and can see where the author is leading Rosie while you read this one. And if Rosie isn't your cup of tea, hang on and wait for the next book because I am super excited for the next characters' story. I can't say who it is yet because it might spoil this story. Just know I am super excited for it!

My own personal copy.. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I went back and forth with the audiobook and the ebook with this one due to time constraints and things to do.
We meet Rosie in the first book and she’s definitely the same in this book as well—still obsessed with books, baking enchanted treats that her parents forbid her to do, and just as silly (perhaps hopefully romantic, might be a better way to describe her) as ever. That last one is both a pro and con for me as she does come across as just plain silly or even childish, but I did like her at times as some of her antics amused me. However, she did have some moments that nearly made me facepalm because of her ridiculousness—like trying to explore the palace and go into the throne room without an invitation? Trying to give the prince of another country a spelled baked good? If I can be a bit harsh, she acted like a child at times and it didn’t endear her to me.
It was so strange to see Aiden from the perspective of Rosie and how smitten he was with Eileen—if I hadn’t read the first book, I would have really liked him in this one with how caring he is towards Eileen. However, I have read the first book and know that he’s border-line obsessive with her, so the “dear”s and “darling”s didn’t feel very cute to me. 😅 We see a few glimpses of that and then one scene where he is harsh to someone (rightfully deserved in my opinion), but it still felt borderline toxic to me.
Rosalina often referred to herself in third person by going “I, Rosalina” when something shocking or dramatic happens. Which was a lot. In just the first 17 pages, she said it 5 times. Over 20 times throughout the book. 😅 I’m pretty sure if my Nana met this girl, she’d call her a ninny and all I would be able to do is nod in agreement. Alastar deserved better.
At one point she says “I was anything but a stupid heroine” and I’d like to greatly debate that. This was honestly a bit painful to read because of her childish ways and attitude.
All that said, I did like the ending because it was what I hoped was coming. I want to read Prince Liam’s story, so I will most likely continue with the series.

Wow. Rosie. I think I'm just going to say that I struggled with Rosie, she wasn't my favorite character, and leave it at that. I did love the continuation of characters in this book from the first. It gave me a sense of family and community.
The whole tone and voice of this book is young. It reads as more of a middle grade than young adult. Maybe that contributed to how I felt about Rosie? She felt very immature.
I enjoyed the first book in this series, Pathways, although I did mention in my review of that book that it also felt "younger". While I didn't enjoy this book as much, I still have hope for the next book and know who I hope the main character will be!
The cover for this book is pretty!
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
We first meet Rosie in Pathways and are introduced to her dreamy, silly ways. Rosie has to be this type of head-in-the-clouds character for this story to work, although she is slightly aggravating because of her stubborn foolishness.
Rosie has had big dreams of finding her own charming prince and will stop at nothing to get him, going as far as baking up the ultimate spell. I thought for sure her long-time friendship was going to be completely ruined because of her mischievous and disobedient ways. But remember--no happily-ever-after comes easily and that point is only achieved after a lot of hard work, lessons learned, and time.
This was a fun story, especially since it's loosely based on The Frog Prince, and it was interesting to see where the author would take this classic tale. I enjoyed the way it all ended up and I'm looking forward to the next one!
Content: mild romance
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
I didn't like this one as much as the first, but it was still a cute story. Rosie and Alaster were fun characters. I thought it was a little wordy/repetitive at times, but overall enjoyed it. Hope to see a story about Prince Liam!!!
Moral Note: Clean romance, clean language, no violence
Main character is way too annoying with no real depth
My tween daughter wanted to read this series so I decided to read it first to make sure it was appropriate. Oh my goodness, I have never disliked a main character more. Rosie was nothing but a whiny, selfish, and delusional pest. And the people around her, too indulging. Aiden should have laid down the law a lot sooner, and her so called best friend didn't act anything like a best friend and stop Rosie's delusions. Honestly, there was no reason for anyone to be drawn to Rosie, not as a love interest or a best friend from how her character was portrayed in this story. I only gave it 2 stars because the other characters were much better written and it did the job of passing the time, when I wasn't too annoyed with it. Honestly, if my daughter hadn't wanted to read it, I wouldn't have bothered to finish it...yes, Rosie was that annoying.
I can imagine that Camille Peters had a great time writing this book. I found it to be written as a "tongue-in-cheek" novel. I found Rosie to be an "over-the-top" character and that her actions and words were not always in harmony. There were many moments that were very funny. She certainly knows how to get herself in a predicament.
The best part was the banter between Rosie and the guard Alastair. Prince Liam was a pleasant surprise. His part as the "spelled" victim in the book was funny. I can't imagine having a Prince drool over me. It was out of character for the flirtatious Prince that left me snickering quite a bit.
This is the second book in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone, but I would highly recommend reading Pathways before this one. That way you are familiar with the characters and their role in this book.
This book is a comedic romance that is loosely based on a fairy-tale. It contains mild romance and the threat of dragons (I must not forget the dragons.).

Camille Peters writes a sweet story. Unfortunately, I just could not relate to the heroine Rosie. She presents as someone who is REALLY young for her age. While Ms. Peters intends this novel for a teen/young adult audience, it may be more suited for a pre-teen audience as Rosie may resonate more with them than with an older audience.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love books that seem like a fairy tale! This one does that so well. It just feels timeless. There’s enchanted water, spells, and a great hero and heroine.
I loved Rosie. She was in Camille Peters’ first book, Pathways. She’s Eileen’s best friend. The book opens with her not having any idea what happened to Eileen. Then the unthinkable happens. Eileen is able to write from the palace and she’s about to be married to the prince. I loved the way this book connects with Pathways.
Rosie travels to the palace to be with Eileen. There she meets a certain guard, Alastar. The relationship that Rosie has with Alastar is a bit rocky to say the least. The two of them are constantly fighting about something. And they are constantly thrown together. Making things even worse.
I loved the way Rosie knows what kind of fairy tale she herself wants. She does everything she can think of to make that happily ever after happen for her. After all, Eileen got a prince, why shouldn’t Avery? But Avery learns for herself that sometimes your fairy tale isn’t quite what you think it will be. It’s even better.
This is a great book! It’s a fairy tale type book that is engaging and fun. It’s also clean so you can let your teenage daughters read it with no problems.
Oooh my. Love this newest installment in Camille Peters' world! Like Pathways, the first book, it's a real mix of fairytale and fantasy which I really like - fantasy with all the beauty and magic intact. :D Her characters are nuanced and realistic, developing and deepening as the book goes further on. Even the two main characters from the first book have a side story in this book, which I really like! It's written from Rosie's perspective, and oh my does she have such an entertaining - and oftentimes hilarious - mind!! ;) I laughed so many times at her banter with the delightfully dry-witted man-who-is-not-a-prince. The prince himself (whom I also shan't name ;) ) is such a hoot! The romance (which even Rosie's determination can't squelch) is meltingly adorable and the book just kept getting better as time went on. I'm so glad this is supposed to be a really long series as there are so many intriguing characters that I've met or that have been mentioned that I can't wait to find out what their stories are! :D
This is a phenomenal story within a story. Rosie takes a little while to understand and appreciate as she comes off naive, but she really lives inside her own story, making her own chapters. She also fights for what she believes is her happily ever after, only its not. This book literally had me laughing out loud with tears running down my face. It is so hilarious at times. I really like how Rosie's prince handles the whole situation. If you need a break, step into this uniquely crafted world for a truly unique experience.
Honestly, this is the most fun I've had reading a book in a long time. The main character, Rosie, is fun and hilariously flawed. She has a wild imagination and sees what she wants to see, which may be different from reality, creating an interesting dynamic in the story as she goes with what she *thinks* is happening. The banter between her and her love interest is fun and entertaining. Being emotionally connected to the main character was fun so it was hard to watch her stubbornly refuse to see what everyone, including the reader, could already see throughout the story, but I found this trait pretty personally relatable. Ultimately I couldn't put it down because I had to see how it would end.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in return for an honest review.
LOVED this!! Rosie’s antics had me rolling and cringing. There was plenty of crying as well. Though that could have just been me needing to expel some emotional stress. Rosie reminded me of my 5 year old. Full of dreams and head way in the clouds. I love how Ali played along with all her insanity. Really fun book! Though, I think if it hadn’t ended when it did Rosie may have reached the point of unlikeable. Can’t wait for the next one.
4.5 stars The first book was okay but this one blew my socks off! I wasn't even sure I wanted to continue the series and I'm certainly glad I did!! Rosie was in the first book as the adorably fairytale minded best friend to Eileen, who found her happily ever after with the Dark Prince, Aiden. Now, we are fortunate to join Rose in her own adventure. What an adventure it is too!! Rosie is invited to the palace to be with Eileen and prepare for the wedding. Determined to find her own prince, Rosie's imagination begins to run wild one thought at a time. Alastar, Eileen's guard, manages to help Rosie out of each disaster she finds herself in except when she decides that Prince Liam is the prince she wants. Coming up with the idea to bake him a love spell to ensure his affections, Rosie realizes that love and infatuation are quite different. I knew Liam was scheming too but I wasn't sure until light was shed on his role in the dastardly plot! Thankfully, Rosie's true love was able to break all enchantments on the overbearing prince and alls well that ends well. The banter alone make this by far one of the most fun books I've read this year! I loved Rosie & Ali (Alastar). I laughed so much, I elicited weird looks from those around me! If you haven't begun the series yet, you won't want to miss this one! It's my favorite in the series thus far!
Ooh, I LOVE this story!! I was sucked in and had to binge read it so I could find out what happened; I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!! I love the realism in the story and how there weren't just conflicts with the main character but the others as well. It was all resolved so beautifully! Also, this book is hilarious!! There were so many witty lines that just fit PERFECTLY! Prince Liam is an absolute hoot and Alastar is a miiiighty fine knight in shinning armor!! I loved Rosie's growth and maturity but also how she always keeps that sparkle that makes her Roise. I'm so happy with how everything turns out! I also loved her love for baking and how it was sweetly (hahah no pun intended) weaved into the story with Rosie always baking up treats for people! So cute!
Note: I did receive a complimentary copy of this book. But the thoughts, opinions, etc. are entirely my own.
I didn't like this book as much as I did the first, and I attribute that primarily to the main character, Rosie. Which is tough because the rest of the story was fine. I liked how the author used 'The Frog Prince' as an inspiration, with this story as a loose retelling rather than a literal retelling. The plot was solid, the dialogue was decent and the story kept moving forward at a steady pace. I will add that the golden ball/pond scene from the original story was a quirky but nice addition here. I also enjoyed the expected but unexpected plot twist and it was interesting seeing the return of several characters from the first book.
As Spelled's main character, Rosie, had made an appearance in the 1st book (Pathways), I realized while reading this that, for me, she is a better character in small doses. I kept trying to be sympathetic to her, and even with her having a love for stories and with a very vivid imagination, I just could not easily read through the book with her as the main character. Her personality was so strong and she definitely had her own voice, but while other readers might enjoy reading about her mishaps and adventures, she had just the right quirks that drive me nuts as a reader.

the book is a very good second book in the series. The mail character really annoyed me for the firwt part of the book because I thought her conceited , stubborn and unwilling to see how her actions might affect anyone else. But after a few surprises, everything comes together in a very nice way.
Listen...Alistair is all I have to say...he made the book. Rosie girl needed the lessons she learned but can I tell you I wanted to throttle her multiple times. I also loved seeing the couple in the first book still have main parts in this one.
This book made me laugh out loud, repeatedly. I loved Rosie's interactions with Alastar. I read an early Advance Reader Copy and in it Rosie was a bit annoying at times, but the author said she went back and fixed that, so I look forward to rereading this book to see Rosie presented in a way that will make me love her more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series as the books come out.
5 heartwarming (although a little bit silly) stars Oh, Bliss! (Sorry, I couldn't help myself)
I was reluctant to say this until now but really, the best books are the ones you find randomly, hidden among others and the ones you suddenly choose in the impulse of the moment. This is the way I chose to read this book. I had it on my self lying for far too long and then suddenly I just started it, without reading the description, without thinking about what I was doing. And I am not regretting it.
This was one of the most heartwarming stories I've ever read. This book does not exist solely to tell a story but to brighten your day and make you laugh, and that is why I gave it 5 stars.
I won't linger much but I will say some of my favorite and my worst points of this book.
Advantages
-The heroine: unique, funny, adventurous. You will not find another heroine such as this. One who lives through books, that sees the world for its best, who brings all the tales alive by adjasting them to her reality. I do not like when people say that 'life is not a fairy tale' that 'happily ever after doesn't exist' because living a fairy tale doesn't meen being stupid and ignoring all around you. It rather means focusing on all the positives and facing the negatives with a determination to reach a happy ending. A happy ending is not one specific moment, when the heroine and the hero will finally end up together. It is every time a challenge is concluded and the storm has passed. This book made me think about it and when I realized that hidden message I felt even more lighthearted.
-The hero: along with the heroine, he was taking you to a different reality, where he and the heroine were copying through stories, where everything was a new adventure. He was not your cliche hero. He was shy, funny, smart and he was not hundsome, BUT that didn't mean that he liked the heroine because of her beauty and that was what I liked the most. In many stories you will find a hero who is 'beastly' or 'scarred' or ugly in general and the heroine will be beautyful. And that scenario most of the time leads with him falling for her because he was entraced by her rare beauty, by her eyes etc. In this book that was not the case. The hero loved the heroine because of the way she was living life, because of her unique character and it was suprising how this message was passed when at the same time their appearances were hardly mentioned. (incredible)
Disadvantages Oh well, every story has its flaws and this one was no exception. I will speak in general because I don't want to offer any spoilers. It's strange, really. In most books what I don't like is that a chapter is missing in the end, that one more page should be added to make the perfect story. In this book I felt that there was one spare chapter and that if it weren't there it would be perfect. One less chapter, that is all.
And the second this is that I found some dialogues in the end cringy, but it was okay. That's what I mean by one chapter less. I think that in order to show the shared emptions the author used a lot of exagerating expressions that made it a little bit exagerated, but that was only in one chapter in the very end, so, Who cares?
(Now that I think about it, the author may have been inspired by this secondary character in princess and the frog. It fits the heroine's attitude somehow. Such a nice twist from the original plot)
So, read this book and enjoy every bit of it. If you're having a bad day this is the book for you.
Oh, I enjoyed this book so much! More than I even anticipated to. I ended up finishing it in an evening simply because I was just having so much fun! The characters and the story was delightful. I just had the best time!
Rosie was such a fun heroine and I just loved her character! Yes, there were many times I was shaking my head and cringing at her antics but I couldn’t help but love her. She’s a daydreamer with a wild imagination. I loved her adventurous spirit. She was hilarious, fun, and altogether a delightful heroine. Alastar was a wonderful! I liked him from the first moment they met. He was so sweet and perfect for Rosie. I absolutely loved them together! The romance was so, so sweet. I loved their banter, their battle of wits, and their enemies to friends to lovers story. 💗 The side characters were also wonderful. I haven’t read Aiden and Eileen’s story yet but after reading this one, I am even more eager to. I met Liam when I read Reflection recently and oh my goodness, I love him! He is hilarious and literally the best. I was laughing my head off at his antics, one moment in particular. 😂 I cannot wait to read his story!
This book also had one of the best plot twists. I had my suspicions but was never certain. Let me just say, I LOVED it. I was laughing so hard. 😂 Camille Peters always adds the best surprises and twists in her books.
In conclusion, I absolutely loved this book! It was my first book to finish in 2023 and it was a wonderful one to start with. I listened to the audiobook and it was so well done! I just had so much fun with this book! I can’t wait to read the others in this series.🥰
I can't get over with this story! It seems that I will be more glad to be a damsel in distress than to be a princess if you have a gallant knight.
THE STORY MAKES YOU LOL! I LOVE THE DEBATE BETWEEN ROSIE AND ALI LMAO AND HOW ALI GOES ALONG WITH HER STORY. SUCH A SWEET GUY.
Ali isn't the princely guy you'd hoped for but I'm sure you'll fall for him. A knight in shining armor, and Rosie! I literally cringe and get secondhand embarrassment from her but as the story progress, you can see how she matures and limits how far she can go in her own story.
Also the way the author describes the setting, oh bliss! You should read it.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HERE IS THE PLOT TWIST! ITS REALLYYYY GREAT AND I MEANT IT.
Note: binge read this in one day, I didn't get any sleep btw
This is an adorable fairy tale-esque book! It is a frog prince retelling, though it is a very loose retelling with only a few elements of the story.
The audiobook version was really well done. While I really enjoyed the main guy, the main girl Rosie vacillated between endearing and annoying for me. Then again, she was at times endearing and annoying and exasperating for the other characters. Rosie's head is literally in the clouds. She deludes herself with her imagination, seeing things that aren't really there.
Still, I enjoyed the book, and eventually Rosie learned her lesson and learned how to balance a wild imagination with some common sense. I am falling more in love with this world, and I can't wait to see the happily ever afters that the other characters find in the next books!
Scampered? Once to describe the way in which the character moves toward some place is okay... twice, even, would be acceptable... however the book is written in first person and uses scampered to describe the way the heroine moves. I just can’t imagine any girl describing the way she moved through the world as “scampered”...
Honestly, this book was just... horrible is too strong... but it was definitely written by a novice. I was hoping the second book in the series would show some improvement in writing... in character development.
Cheesy. This book was definitely cheesy and sappy. It’s the kind of book I would have written at the age of 14. I’m not sure I can make it through the third book. I’m not sure I even want to try...
Insane sociopath with the reasoning of an 11 year old - Rosalina, is inexplicably allowed to live in the palace because she is "best friends" with the crown princess (meanwhile the princess's mother and only family still lives in some small town as a peasant). Rosalina's insane manipulation of foreign politics by attempting to force a prince to break his betrothal, is enabled by her friend and the prince. The prince is seen as a villain for being reasonably concerned about the unethical behavior of this random peasant. Somehow no one is very upset, and somehow she still gets her romantic ending despite her complete selfinvolvement. An interesting read if only to be confused and annoyed for the whole time

I really had fun reading this second book in the series. Rosie is a hoot, and her dialogue between herself and Alastar are golden. The highlights of the book. Rosie is quite dead-set on getting her Prince Charming but nothing goes as planned, for better or worse. Her antics get quite ridiculous at times. Sometimes I laughed along with her scheming and others I cringed in anticipation of the outcome. Yet, I kept going out of eagerness to see how The Story of Rosie would turn out. The romance was very sweet, and while love can be blind, the heart always figures out what it wants. Seeing Prince Liam again was a treat, and I cannot wait to read his story next!
I laughed so much throughout this story. Rosalina "Rosie" is a creative lover of fairytales intent on making her own happy ending come true... Her flights of fancy delighted me even as I watched her dig her own pits with some of the choices she made in trying to make the prince fall in love with her. I also loved the hero of this story, guard Alastar seems so solumn but with a humor streak and a willingness to be a part of her stories and join the adventure. Prince Liam was hilarious as well. I enjoyed the plot twist and the happy ending. Rich description helps you fall right into the world with the characters. Highly recommend for all ages.
