One wealthy businessman, a trio of unsuspecting wives, and an explosive turn of events. In this scandalous, twist-filled new series from Shelly Ellis, will too many secrets and one devastating bond unite three women--or destroy them? Noelle. Diamond. Vanessa. Each woman believes she is Cyrus Grey's only wife--until he's nearly shot to death. Now, as he lies in a coma, the deceptions keep coming, unraveling everything they thought they knew . . . Gorgeous model Noelle's marriage to Cyrus anchored her--though she couldn't understand why he wouldn't have a baby with her. They certainly had the money. But she's learning fast just how Cyrus became so rich--thanks to his fatally attractive business partner . . . For Diamond, marrying Cyrus saved her from the streets--and being a pimp's punching bag. But her past makes her the police's prime suspect in Cyrus's shooting. She's determined to get to the truth--if she can survive long enough to tell it . . . Even with her beautiful house, three kids, and elegant lifestyle, Vanessa sensed something was wrong in her marriage. But she never expected this--or that taking a lover for comfort would change the game completely. With danger closing in, Cyrus's life hanging in the balance, and collateral damage threatening to take them all down, how far will each woman go to be the real Mrs. Grey?

Well, well, well, what do we have here??? A delightfully engrossing and fun book about one wealthy businessman and his unsuspecting three wives. Someone has shot Cyrus Grey and when two of his wives’ rush to the hospital they get more than they bargained for - the knowledge that their husband was a bigamist. The you-know-what is going to hit the fan!
Vanessa has been married to Cyrus for eleven years and they have three children together. She knew things were not right in her marriage, heck even she is up to no good on the side, but she was shocked to hear another woman say she was married to Cyrus.
Noelle, a former model, believes her marriage to Cyrus is solid. She desperately wants a child and would like to know why Cyrus does not want to have a child with her. She is flabbergasted when she rushes to the hospital and hears Vanessa say she is married to Cyrus.
Diamond is also married to Cyrus. He saved her from her former life. She is having her pretty woman moment, but her former life draws the attention of the police who believe that she may be a suspect in her husband's shooting. How will she prove them wrong?
Oh, how deliciously fun this was! You can feel the deception dripping from the pages! If Shelly Ellis is not on your radar, she needs to be! This book is full of conniving, tomfoolery, sex, lies, anger, planning, scheming, and danger. So good!!! Try to put this one down! I dare you, try it!
The characters are interesting and the plot intriguing. I kept trying to wrap my mind around how he pulled it off. How do you have three wives - not sister wives - but three wives, three residences, three set of bills, lifestyles, etc. HOW does he do it? Why are the women not suspicious? He cannot spend that much time with any of them. How much traveling can a businessman do?
Will you like all the characters? Will you feel sorry for any of them? There was one I felt sorry for. Sometimes I have a hard time with a book if I cannot feel for or root for the characters. But Ellis has created characters who you would like to dislike. Each is unique and has his/her own issues and things going on in their lives. This book is like a nighttime soap opera and I mean that in the best possible way. This book is marketed as a thriller, but I see it more as a domestic drama with suspense and the central mystery of who shot Cyrus and why or should I say who would not want to shoot him?
This was pure escapism reading and I look forward to the next book! This book is not too heavy nor it is too light, it is just perfect when you want to kick back and be entertained.
Thank you to Kensington Books and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Delicious guilty pleasure book that is much more “domestic” than “thriller,” but I enjoyed the heck out of it. This story is about three Black women in three very different marriages....three marriages which, they learn at the beginning of the novel, are to the very same man. And of course, they find all this out when their husband is shot. (By a man hired by one of them? Or by someone else entirely?)
I loved all three of the wife characters who at first seem very different - Vanessa, the somewhat spoiled, bored Neiman Marcus shopping housewife who was married to Cyrus for over a decade and who is having an affair with the kids’ much younger soccer coach; the younger, softer wife and fashion model with mental health issues; and the feisty, somewhat troublesome Diamond who has an ex-boyfriend fresh out of prison, and who seems to be Suspect Number One in Cyrus’ shooting.
The book is juicy and sex and drama is plentiful. The author, Shelly Ellis, is very funny and gives me Lolita Files vibes. I liked the mystery but really enjoyed getting to know these women even more. (Wish I could say the same for Cyrus and the low down dirty friends of his who helped make his three marriages possible.) I would happily read another book about these characters and it looks like one might be in the works.
Recommended! Thanks to Kensington Books, NetGalley and the author for this fun read.
Seriously… reading the men in this book makes you wonder if we should do without them. Okay, okay…I know not all men are like this, but in this book? Holy crap!
I guess this could best be described as an urban domestic thriller filled with so many trashy people. Out of all our main characters, I liked two: wife #3 and wife #2 (in that order). The rest – well, you know what you do with trash!
The story moves very quickly and the author does a good job of getting us thoroughly involved in their hot messes. Expect sharp dialogue, edgy situations and a lot of sex!
The book does end on a cliff-hanger, but it didn’t leave me irritated. It did leave me wanting book 2!
don't be put off by the 2 star review - hear us out!
this was a fun, wild, delightfully soap operatic mystery about 3 women who find themselves entangled after discovering they all married the same man.
go into this expecting a really dialogue heavy mystery, lots of cheating/messiness, morally ambiguous characters, and just general tom foolery. once i adjusted my expectations to view this more as a casual beach read mystery-romance with lots of sex, my enjoyment of the book went way up.
things that made me adjust expectations: the dialogue is mad cheesy. the writing is pretty casual.
was excited to find out this is a series! love a good messy mystery series tbh and WILL be continuing with the future books. not sorry i read it!
Right from the beginning when the point of views of the three Mrs. Grey's were introduced in succeeding chapters, my eyes just widened with shock for all the drama. And I am here for it.
I was not really sure how the story would develop, but the plot just continues to thicken and reeled me right into the thick of the story.
Talk about a man leading a double life, but in this case, just for the extra challenge, call it a triple threat!
Cyrus is a wealthy businessman who was shot and each of his wives showed up to the hospital as the Mrs Grey. I enjoyed the fast paced read, the well plotted mystery that I certainly did not guess right away, and the perfectly paced story line.
I am looking forward to book 2 as I was left to want more with the cliff hanger of an ending. I really enjoyed this book a lot.
Voracious readers of the domestic thrillers that include multiple wives to the same damn man won't find anything new in this first-in-a-series but you'll have a damn good time! For me, this is a compulsive popcorn thriller that was pure entertainment. Noelle, Diamond and Vanessa - three very different women with only one thing in common - Cyrus. I legit don't know what I would do if I ran to the hospital because I found out my husband was shot and then get there and find he has two other wives. I certainly hope there's nothing that can be used as a weapon near me though.....
Of course the women talk, there's more to the story behind each of them and drama bubbles up page after page after page! I am here for all of it. I did feel that the "twist:reveal" left me underwhelmed. I saw it coming but it was almost too simple - especially for the reasoning. Just my opinion because if we were going to get all this build up, then I needed something better than... well, y'all are just going to have to read this if you want to know. 😉 Come for the steamy scenes and fill yourself full of drama.
As a first-in-a-series, it lends well to getting the reader to know the main characters and put a base on a continuing storyline. Despite some misses, I was thoroughly entertained and absolutely will need to see where this goes. There's no rest for the wicked... or the reader who loves to read about them.
All eyes in the waiting room were focused on them. Vanessa wondered if the nosy family of three huddled across the room in the line of leather chairs was going to break out a bucket of popcorn to watch the show.
Why would I be jealous of a woman who’s made of more plastic than my daughter’s Barbie dolls?
Ripe? … What am I? A damn grapefruit?
When Vanessa had heard he was shot, she’d braced herself for the possibility that her husband would die and had even started eagerly looking forward to it, but here he sat, very much alive. A wave of emotions overwhelmed her, making her eyes flood with tears.
Cy’s life had always been a delicate balancing act. He would sometimes envision himself as one of those high-wire performers rolling across the Big Top on a unicycle.
My Review:
This was a gritty, confounding, and curiously intriguing tale about horrible people engaging in stupid and reprehensible behaviors. While some were getting what they deserved, some were not. The storylines poked and taunted my curiosity while also making me itch and gnash my teeth, yet I couldn’t put my Kindle down as Shelly Ellis can certainly unspool an entertaining, addictive, and uncomfortably chilling tale. But, to leave me dangling with a despicable cliffhanger… what gall! Thankfully I already have book two locked and loaded or I would be stamping my little foot and turning the air blue. I do believe I am invested.
I generally despised 90% of Ms. Ellis's uniquely bent and well-drawn characters - the uncouth, volatile, and self-serving wastrel of wife #1 Vanessa, most of all. Although followed closely in my level of annoyance was the weak and moronic wife #3, named Diamond. Vanessa was a conspicuous and spoiled trophy wife who seemed to be thinking with what was between her legs rather than using the limited gray matter she had between her ears. Although, I wanted to give all three Mrs. Greys a few good smacks with my Kindle to hopefully jar lose the few functioning brain cells between them, and most of those seemed to belong to wife #2, Noelle.
Mr. Grey was obviously a demon and a toad, and I have my fingers crossed that these hideous humans get exactly what they deserve in the newly released sequel.
Featuring: Affluence, DMV and Surrounding Areas, Bigamy, Violence, Sex - On Camera, Profanity, Next Book Preview - 1 chapter
Rating as a movie: R for adult content including violence, strong sexual content, and language
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
My thoughts: 🔖Page 39 of 315 Ch. 5 Noelle - I knew I shouldn't have started this book. It is blowing all of my other books out of the water. Now I have to find an audiobook to get some chores done because I'm going to be sitting with this one for the rest of the day. 🔖175 Ch. 19 Vanessa - This is still interesting, but it feels more drama than a thriller; it has slowed down a bit as well. Nevertheless, I'm only stopping to make dinner.
I enjoyed this story. I'm not even mad about being late to the party because I'm starting the next book tonight.
The Three Mrs. Greys by Shelly Ellis is the dynamic first book in her Three Mrs. Greys series.
Shelly Ellis has the makings of another successful series in this opener. The story is revealed through the alternating viewpoints of the three wives over a series of consecutive days. The characters are dynamic and the plot is compelling. This novel delivers on the premise completely. The Three Mrs. Greys ends well and properly sets up for next book in the series. I was completely captivated and highly recommend this 5 out of 5 star novel to all readers of urban fiction.
My thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
Successful businessman, Cyrus Grey has three beautiful wives and none of them knows about each other–until one Monday morning when he’s shot and they each rush to the hospital to be at his side… and find out about one another. As Cyrus is still in an induced coma, Vanessa, Noelle and Diamond attempt to piece together the puzzle of his lies. Unfortunately, they do not trust their “sister wives” and do not share the information they’ve gathered, leading to even more interesting outcomes.
This thriller is well-written, well-paced, and full of juicy drama. The characters are full-bodied and flawed, perfect for a domestic thriller. Think Desperate Housewives with black characters. I’m so excited to have discovered Shelly Ellis who has now become an auto-buy author for me.
The Three Mrs Greys is a supremely entertaining read that left me wanting more. I can’t wait for my copy of The Truth Lies and Mr Grey (the sequel) to be delivered.
One wealthy businessman, a trio of unsuspecting wives, and an explosive turn of events. In this scandalous, twist-filled new series from award-winning author Shelly Ellis, will too many secrets and one devastating bond unite three women--or destroy them?
. . .
First off, I am not an #ownvoices reviewer, so please keep that in mind with this review.
I SO badly wanted to love THE THREE MRS. GREYS, especially after reading another highly entertaining and twist ridden book last year with a similar premise. It started out strong, with a LOAD of super juicy drama, shocking reveals and STEAM. Unfortunately, at about the 35% mark it started to drag for me and I ended up struggling to finish it.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for my ARC. THE THREE MRS. GREYS is available March 30th.
This is not a thriller or a mystery. This is more like a soap opera. The only one not having sex was the guy with three wives! And that was probably only because he was in a coma. Characters and their actions did not make any sense. If your husband is buying you Birkin purses and you are driving an Aston Martin, why are you hostessing at a restaurant? The storyline was rather predictable and seemed to focus more on the sex and high drama scenes than in presenting a solid story. And the final insult? That this book ends with a cliff hanger. The story isn't even complete.
Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for a copy of the book. This review is my own opinion.
It’s been a while since I have written a review of a book. I will rate it, but sometimes I am not in the mood to write a review. However, The Three Mrs. Greys deserve a review. The pacing was great and kept me fully engaged to the point that I didn’t realize I was at the 90% mark. I also loved the drama and dramatic suspense and that damn ENDING!!! I listened to this and I almost threw my phone. It has been a long time since I have wanted to throw my phone or the book and that was increased my rating. I can’t wait to read book two.
In fairness to the author, will not assign a star rating for this book. This was absolutely not my type of read . I skimmed a lot of it.
I found the characters annoying and cliched, a Kardashian sort of housewife, an insecure former model who gave up her NYC fashion life, and a reformed hooker unable to escape her former pimp.
There was no ending with the obvious intention of hooking the reader to continue to the next book.
Three women and all married to the same man. One man. Three wives. In one city.
The husband has been shot and could die. When the women find out they are not the only Mrs. Grey, things start to become complicated. But who shot him and why? The storyline was good but in the middle of the book I lost interest. Overall, I enjoyed the book.
Ooh what a hot mess and I’m here for it!! Wealthy businessman Cyrus Grey has been shot and rushed to the hospital. His wife Vanessa is called and she rushes off to the hospital. When she arrives she’s shocked there’s another woman named Noelle claiming to be Cyrus wife! Soon another woman named Diamond claims to be his wife and she was with him when he was shot! All three woman cannot be married to him right? Well it appears Cyrus was married to all three of them and their not happy! To bad he’s in a coma and can’t answer their questions. Wife One Vanessa appears to have secrets and one of them is she’s sleeping with the kids soccer coach, she has three children with Cyrus. Wife Two is Noelle a former model she owns a boutique and suffers from depression, she desperately wants children. Wife three is Diamond she younger than the other two wives, she has a rough former life and she can’t shake her dark past. Each woman could have a motive for wanting to shoot Cyrus, but it also appears his business partner has his eye on wife number two... with so many suspects who wanted Cyrus dead. Wow this book had to steamy parts and left me shaking my head on some of the drama these wives brought into themselves but I could not put this book down now I need book two!! Four stars!!
5/7/2022 - Oooh boy was that a wild ride! First up, I think it helps going in knowing that this book is launching a series. While some questions are answered - many, many more are brought to light.
Cyrus Grey’s carefully crafted world is literally blasted to hell when he and wife number three are shot. His wives begin to meet and discover that they aren’t the only secrets he’s hiding.
I absolutely LOVED all the characters that Ellis created. While Vanessa, Noelle, & Diamond are brilliant the secondary characters are amazing as well. Even when I hated them, I loved them. The interplay between the various personalities makes for even more twists and turns in this story. No one knows the full truth and everyone has an agenda.
Not exactly a cliffhanger as the initial mystery of “Who shot Cyrus?” is revealed. However it’s obvious there’s a lot more to come. I can’t wait!
Narration: I was blown away by Elle Cleviden’s narration. There are so many characters in this book, all with very distinct personalities and they were delivered flawlessly. Loved it!
Three women and all married to the same man. The bigamist husband has been shot and could die. When the women find out they are not the only Mrs. Grey… …things become complicated.
This had so much potential! I am sure some people loved the story, but I found myself scratching my head wondering how the women were suckered in, put up with what they did, behaved as they did, and how they would all come out in the end. I thought this would be a standalone story but found out at the end of the book that it was instead the first in a series and ended with a cliffhanger and no resolution for any of the characters. I didn’t connect with, like or admire any of the characters and that was a problem. I don’t think I will be reading the second book in this series but do hope that it will do well and find the readers who will love it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.
Ooh, the twists! The Three Mrs. Greys by Shelly Ellis is an exciting read about three women who discover they have a husband in common...but he's married to all of them at the same time! Now, full disclosure, this suspense ends with a cliffhanger, and it looks as if the action will resolve later in the series. And Cyrus Grey is going to have to do quite a bit to resolve this dilemma. Not only have all his wives learned the truth, someone is out to kill him. The action is told through the points of view of the women, Vanessa, Noelle and Diamond, and they all find out about the betrayal in different ways. The author did a great job with characterization. Each main character is fully defined and distinct. This is an action-packed read, full of deception, plotting and an intriguing look into how the world of money can mingle with the world of crime.
Received this book as an ARC from Net Galley. This was my 1st read by this author but won’t be my last. From the very 1st chapter I was captivated by the characters. This book was full of lies, secrets and suspense. I can’t wait to read the next installment.
The Three Mrs. Greys was a fast-paced read full of secrets, drama, and lies. It was a juicy story! What happens when a wealthy businessman thinks he can have it all? What happens when the lives of three women are turned upside down in the blink of an eye? Who can be trusted?
While I did not find the storyline to be the most original, there was definitely enough spice and adventure to keep the reader engaged all the way through. This was a fun one.
Three women all believe that they are the only wife of Cyrus Grey - a successful financial guy who travels on business frequently.
-Vanessa has been married to Cyrus for eleven years and they have three children. The marriage isn't great but Cyrus loves his kids and provides a rich lifestyle for the family. Vanessa is having an affair with her son's younger soccer coach who believes that he's in love with her but she has no plans to give up her extravagant life with Cyrus. -Noelle has been married to Cyrus for seven years. She's a former model who desperately wants to have a baby but Cyrus keeps refusing. She owns a boutique and despite her lack of children enjoys the life that Cyrus provides for her. -Diamond has been married to Cyrus for less than a year. He saved her from her former life as a sex worker and they too live a very rich life style. She loves Cyrus and knows that he's giving her a better and safer life.
All three women love and trust Cyrus...UNTIL
Vanessa and Noelle get a phone call from the hospital that Cyrus has been shot while he was with Diamond and may not live. It's only then that they find out that he was married to three women. The more they find out, the more they realize that not only was he a bigamist but his business was not as legitimate as they'd been led to believe. As all three women fall apart in their own way: Vanessa's affair becomes stronger, Noelle starts an affair with Cyrus's business partner and Diamond gets back in touch with her pimp. They all know that their future is unknown but they still fight to become the ONLY Mrs. Grey.
This book is well written and kept me turning pages to find out how it would all end. I was a bit disappointed at the end to find out that it was a two book series and ended with a major cliff hanger. The story was told in alternating chapters by each of the wives and it was interesting to see how all three of them dealt with this major change in their lives. I can't wait to start reading the next book to find out how it all ends for the three women as well as their bigamist husband and his illegal businesses.
I am not a fan of books that leave you hanging until the next episode. Had I known that The Three Mrs. Greys was the first book in a serial story I wouldn't have read it, but then I would have missed out on a very interesting story!
Vanessa has been married to Cyrus Grey for 11 years. Three children later she lives in a lovely home free of money worries and her kids are in private school.
Noelle has been married to Cyrus Grey for 4 years. She desperately wants a baby. The former model now owns a boutique clothing store that is financed by Cy. His business partner, Tariq Donahue, is always there when Noelle can't reach Cy.
Diamond married Cyrus Grey 10 months ago in Las Vegas. Now a restaurant hostess, Diamond is injured when Cy is shot outside their condo. Diamond's former pimp is out of jail and looking to regain his 'property'.
The women find out about each other while Cy is in a coma and their lives are suddenly not what they thought. The cliff hanger ending makes me hope the next book in the series will be released soon.
I volunteered to read an ARC from Dafina Books (Kensington) through Net Galley. Release date March 30, 2021
The Three Mrs. Greys was just a rollicking good time, in that "raunchy '80s soap-opera morally questionable joyride" kind of way. And the steam was 🔥🥵🔥
Three very different women discover they're married to the same man when he's shot, and the chase begins to figure out who did it. Cuz everybody's got a motive.
Wife #1, who's banging her son's 24-year-old soccer coach, is only with Mr. Grey for the cash and doesn't seem to care if he lives. Wife #2 isn't too happy to find out about wifes 1 & 3 and may or may not take up with Mr. Grey's questionable business partner, who may or may not have been the one who shot him. And wife #3, a former sex worker with a heart of gold, has no intention of relinquishing her new husband to his other wives and is terrified her pimp, who just got out of prison, is the one who shot him. And then there's Mr. Grey and his shady dealings...
Rife with hysterical characters and boatloads of bad behavior, The Three Mrs. Greys was an unpredictable and engaging story and I really want to know how it ends because...
This is a series. So I went ahead and devoured book 2, Truth, Lies, and Mr. Grey, immediately after finishing book 1. And now I'm sitting here biting my nails waiting for the 3rd. Because really this is the only thing I want to be reading right now.
Thank you, Shelly Ellis, for your women getting far more action than their man.
I read some reviews and it seems like many loved it, me, I cannot understand how three “smart” women could all be married to the same man in the same city. My dad couldn’t even get away with an affair and sleeping with another woman for three months before someone saw his car where it shouldn’t have been. And Montreal in the 70s had 5 million people! Plus the women are not especially likeable.
Not only is this a 5 star book, it would make a 5 star movie!! When three women discover they are all married to the same man, well there are bound to be fireworks of some kind. It's no surprise when the mister is shot, but which missus shot him? As one wife is put on trial, the stories unfold to see the wrinkles in what they all thought were perfect lives.
