Maddi is on the run from the Hunters. Which is making it really difficult to save their lives.
My name is Maddi Wessen. I was raised to kill supernatural creatures: sorcerers that threatened to reveal the magical world to normal humans, vampires that kill too many people, shifter packs that go to war with each other.
Until they tried to kill me. I’m the first person to survive running from them. So far.
Then, the Shadow Reapers found me. They offered to teach me magic and keep me safe. Instead, I got a little busy trying to figure out who's killing Hunters. Hunters are supposed to be invincible, but they're dropping fast.
I have to figure out what could possibly kill a Hunter, and put a stop to it. All without ever letting the Hunters find me. The Shadow Reapers might be able to help, but I don't trust them. Especially not their leader. I don't have much of a choice, though. Without the Hunters, there's nobody to keep the magical world a secret.
OMG I loved this! It’s a gripping well written fantasy read with a strong, kick ass, snarky female MC and is full of magic, vampires, shifters, and deadly mysteries and is off to a fantastic start! I can’t wait to read the next book!
This is book one of the Shadow Reapers series and the main character is Maddi (Maddison) Wessen, who is working a cash in hand job, trying to keep hidden from the Hunters, an organization she used to belong to, with both her parents. She left after her evil mother tried to kill her and she has stayed hidden since she escaped a year ago. Her absent father has also left the organisation, but she never saw much of either of her parents. The Hunters are there to keep a balance within the supernatural community, killing any who harm or kill humans, so basically trained assassins. It is a community that takes its job and lifestyle seriously and if she is found, she will be put to death by her own previous work partner Matt. She takes on small jobs, trying to save for a grimoire of her own and magic lessons, after finding out she could do magic, something which is forbidden within the Hunter community and would have led to her being put to death!
Her neighbour, a vampire called William, asks her to take on a job to kill a powerful shifter, at more than twice the usual price. She takes it on, hoping this will finally get her enough money to get what she wants. But the shifter has enhanced powers and is harder to put down than she thought. Word soon goes around town that a group of Hunters are searching for someone and she automatically thinks it could be her. Add in that someone is creating supped up vampires who are really hard to kill, and making large numbers of them, makes life even harder. She is being followed by someone and fears it could be a Hunter, but it turns out a new group have set up in town calling themselves Shadow Reapers and they also target supernaturals, but only those who are definitely harming humans. Some are killing bad humans, so the Hunters would target them, but this new group would let them live and only target those killing innocents.
She is recruited into the Shadow Reapers and finds her father Ezra is leading the group! She agrees to a two week trial first, but soon gets caught up in the large numbers of Hunters flooding town and the suped up vampires being created that they are there to hunt and kill. These new vampires, of which there are a large number of appearing, can easily kill Hunters, the most feared and best assassins in the world. If Hunters are killed off, the secret of the supernatural and magic could soon be revealed to the world and that would cause chaos. Being spotted by her old partner Matt and other Hunters, makes it difficult to keep herself safe and still try to take down these new vamps! Matters are made more troublesome as it seems someone they know may be helping to create these new vamps and have their own plans for taking over the city and destroying the Hunters altogether!
Trying to save her old partner and his colleagues would be so much easier if she wasn’t being targeted by them and their overwhelming desire to see her dead. Becoming a Shadow Reaper seems to be the best option for staying alive and fulfilling her wishes to learn more about magic and have her own grimoire. This is a fun read with a strong character who doesn’t allow anyone to put her down and is deadly all on her own. She is not really a people person and finds it hard to mix with the Shadow Reapers to start with, but Asher and Gen start helping her and she starts to trust some of them. A great start to the series and I want to find out more. I look forward to reading the next couple of books in the series. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This book further raises my suspicion that there is great talent out in the indie wild. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Maddi’s snarky, punchy and intelligent narration and her journeys within these pages. This is a full length novel with a Jim Butcher vibe. Honestly, I can say I enjoyed it more than some of the Dresden Files Novels that I have read, and that says a lot for Mr. Jack Knight.
My first thoughts for the book were that I wish there was a little more emphasis on setting beyond Maddi’s job and home life, as it appears to Maddi, but as the book ramped up in world-building aspects such as magical ingredients, grimoires, action and characters – this thought completely disappeared. San Fransisco probably says enough. The style of writing is easy-to-read, sentence structure is varied, and style is preferable to my reading style. Over-arching themes really bring this story together and I thought that the ending note on Chapter 3 really brought the story in close to me, leaving a want to keep turning the pages until the end.
I read a PDF version of the print edition of this book. It is professionally edited, fomat and layout is grand. I honestly can’t tell the difference between this and a publishing house book.
Hunted by Jack Knight simply raises my awareness about talent in the indie publishing industry, making my search for fellow talent a successful one. Attention to detail, thoughtfully styled writing, jokes, punchy narration, a lush world and unexpected twists in plot all make this book a win-win, not only being enjoyable to read as close as a sentence presents only itself, but also as a whole in chapter and book. Congratulations Mr. Jack Knight ★★★★★ 5 stars out of 5.

Remarkable job Jack, thanks for sharing this amazing thrill with us.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in the series. Maddi used to be a hunter, but when it came out that she was able to do magic, her mother tried to kill her. That's how it was with the Hunters. They didn't tolerate magic. Her father had also ran away. Now she knew why. She had to get this magic ability from somewhere - and apparently it was from her father. Maddi finds that there is another organisation who also hunts supernaturals, but they only killed the ones who were killing innocent people. Meanwhile, someone is creating super-powerful vampires. These vampires are killing hunters. The question is - are they going to stop at them, or start killing others?
Maddi Wessen was a Hunter who now finds herself hiding from them when it was discovered that she could wield magic! Hunters are a group of assassins who hide the supernatural from humans and keep the supernaturals in line so they don’t reveal themselves. In order to protect herself from the very efficient Hunters, she accepts an offer to join rival assassins who went after rogues killing innocent people.
But now it looks like super-powerful vampires are being created somehow and are being used to kill Hunters! Will it stop there, or will they begin to kill other supernaturals as well with no one left to stop them?
I loved this book as I was introduced to Maddi an ex-hunter who ran away and tries to hide from the group of Hunters looking for her. Of course all is not what it seams and instead Maddi ends up in the middle of something else. The story was well written and just sucked me in by the end of the first chapter. I had to keep reading to see what Maddi did next and what was really going on. And would she be able to keep out of the Hunters reach. Plus the other characters were awesome. I am hooked and cannot wait to find out what happens next. Just a well written story that sets up the series and characters well.
Hunted (A New Adult Urban Fantasy Novel) by Jack Knight is an Oh My Gosh Amazing Must Read is what my brain was saying as I finished reading this amazing story. Maddi is on the run and hiding from the hunters. She has magic and doesn't know exactly what she is but because of it the hunters want to kill her. She meets some new people that want her to join them. They are trying to keep the supernatural world under wraps from the humans and in so doing, they kill only the supes who actually deserve it. This was a great beginning to a new series. I just really hated the way it ended abruptly.

I received this book from Booksprout for an honest review.
I wasn't sure how to feel about reading this book when I first started...but as the storyline and plot started coming together, I really liked it. Maddi is a snarky character with a badass attitude. Running from the life she knew and thrown into a similar situation but with all the missing elements added in. Definitely looking forward to reading the next book!

Madison is running from the hunters who are trying to kill her. She meets up with a new group called the shadow reapers. They are willing to teach her magic if she will join them. Someone is making new vamps and they have to find out who and stop them. This was a good read, The characters are well developed. My favourite is Maddi and Asher. I would recommend this book to all.

This book grabbed me from the start and held my attention straight through to the end. Maddi is the kind of female lead I really enjoy, strong - sassy- snarky & flawed. There is tons of actionm suspense and magic in this beginning of series and I look forward to more in this series and from this author.
Fun read! Fast-paced and action-packed. Mr. Knight keeps the pressure on Maddi, former Hunter, current fugitive, throughout the story. Loved the world-building in general and the magic system in particular. Reminds me of Cassandra Clare, but grittier, less angsty, more fun. I look forward to reading further in the series.
Ugg. Beyond the fact that some dudes just shouldn't attempt a female POV, this book could have used an editor. One does not "stalk" shelves in a shop, one "stocks" them. Uggg. I bailed before the cliches got too deep.
The snarky hunter is a character I enjoy The story is great and well written I don’t want to give anything away You’ll eyeroll at some things, giggle at others it’s somewhat an all rounder

Really enjoyed this new series I started. Not your normal supernatural story, more action, adventure and relatable characters. Cannot wait to read the next book.
“Hunted” by Jack Knight is the first installment in the “Shadow Reapers Series”, that features Maddi Wessen, who has been trained to kill the supernaturals, who are considered a danger for the human population: the vampires with too many victims, the shifters whose wars spill into the human world, and the sorcerers that reveal magical secrets, in one world everyone who reveals the supernatural to humans.
When the unexpected happens, and the hunted tried to kill her, all hell broke loose. Fleeing and hiding from the killers, Maddi comes in contact with the Shadow Reapers, the only one who can keep her save…. by teaching her to use magic. Maddi is caught between a rock and a hard place, someone is killing Hunters, without magic she is prey, with magic she could become the target of the remaining Hunters. The Shadow Reapers may not be trustworthy but alone she has not chance to stop the killings.
A relatable, intelligent and independent FMC, an interesting story-arc, a carefully worked story paired, make the book an entertaining, fast-paced and easy-to read veritable page-turner. Jack Knight series is a welcome addiction to the UF verse and last but not least, this is a good edited book with a professional layout and very well formatted, very unexpected in a new Indie publication book.
