MC Daddies #3

Protector Daddy

Rate this book
She came for the truth but ended up with so much more…

Millie had always been the responsible. Studious. Serious. She’d never even left the small town she grew up in.
Until her mission takes her to the city. She didn’t factor in exactly how ill-equipped she was to conduct a murder investigation. Soon, she has half the city’s underworld gunning for her. And the only person standing between her and a bunch of criminals?
Spike. A terrifying, gruff, sexy biker.
Perhaps she should have just stayed at home.

She’s a menace. She’s a klutz. She’s adorable. She’s a Little in need of a watchful, protective Daddy.
And she’s going to be his.

Please note: while you could like read this book as a standalone you would probably get more enjoyment if you read the rest of the books in the series first. Contains bikers who like to swear, sexy times, spankings and age play. If any of that offends this isn't the book for you!

If you don’t know, let me just say that I really enjoy this series. So I’m sad to say that this one is my least favorite so far. It had a lack of chemistry and it had one of the things I dislike the most in my romance books.

This is Spike and Millie’s story and I would call it a slow burn, angsty, suspenseful romance. The plot from the first two books makes its way to this one and the plot does thicken here. We still have that mystery here and it does keep you interested. If I’m going to be really honest, the suspense plot overtook the romance.

When I say a lack of chemistry, I really meant it. We barely got any sex scenes and when we did they were bland. I wanted the chemistry to jump out at me and for the attraction between them to be there. I’m used to the heroes in this series having that BAM attraction to the love interests. I wasn’t feeling that from Spike. Sure, he was sexually attracted to her but it never felt like more, and then all of a sudden he was in love with her. This didn’t work for me.

The part that I said I hated was that Spike was a widow. If it had said that in the synopsis I wouldn’t have picked this up. I cannot deal with widows in my romances. The love interest always gets compared to their dead spouse and we always have so much angst about moving on. I can’t deal with it.

As you can see, I had some problems with this one. This was my least favorite so far, but I am open to reading more in the series.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

4.5 stars.
Read this twice now.
Loved it even more the second time.
I’m really enjoying getting to read this series back to back.
I feel like I’m following all the little connecting things a lot better and I had totally forgotten more than I thought I had.
Honestly I love Spike. I feel like he’s the most clingy of the guys so far. Though I mean that in the best way possible. He’s just so sweet and protective and possessive. He couldn’t take it if anything happened to his Baby Doll so he makes sure she sticks by his side.
So good!
Every book I read/reread from Laylah makes my love for her writing more and more concrete.

Millie is the absolute best, honestly.
And Spike is the perfect grump to her perpetual sunshine.
I just love them.
And Mr. Fluffy, too.

4.6 stars.
I swear, every time I read this I wanna watch ‘Sing’.😂
I love this honestly.
Spike has that, ‘hate everyone, but You’ mentality goin and it’s so hot.
Plus the fairy juice and garden🥹🥰😻 I love it. So cute and so freaking sweet to see such a gruff, growly man be so stinkin adorable for the woman he loves.

Laylah’s MC Daddies all have one thing in common, they may be gruff, but when it comes to their littles they’re all big softies.
And Spike is no different, even when he isn’t ready to admit Millie wormed her way into his heart yet.
She’s come to his city to find out more about her little sisters murder.
After overhearing a troubling conversation, she comes looking for Spike.
To warn him and his friend Steele.
But he doesn’t want to hear what she has to say. Not until later...at Steele’s place.
Because if he won’t listen, she can still warn Steele about the trouble coming their way.
Seeing her stumble her way through a dangerous situation convices him she needs someone to keep her safe.
And he’s going to be that someone, even if being close to her might make him feel.....something.
The more he sees of her,the more he’s convinced she needs a Daddy to take care of her.
So,he offers her a deal,he’ll be her Daddy during the time she’s in town.

All Millie wanted, was to find her little sisters murderer.
What she got was a Daddy that was rough around the edges, and a puppy that slept most of the time.
Oh yes,and a lot of trouble from a rival MC and the local underworld.
If only she didn’t develop feelings for the man that couldn’t stop mourning his late wife....
How will she survive having to leave after experiencing his tlc of her little?

There were parts i enjoyed, the humor and seeing old friends again.
Finding out the connection to a mystery friend made me laugh,in spite of the reason why.
What disappointed me a bit,was how Spike kept his distance throughout, even though he nurtured Millie’s little.
It didn’t really convince me when he finally turned around and confessed his feelings.
Not with the way it happened, not really.
Maybe because i still saw more of his Daddy side after that, and not enough sexy times?

Overall,i liked it. Just not as much as the others in the series....

This is the third in the MC Daddies series about the protective motorcycle club Daddies and their Littles. While the romance is a stand-alone and is resolved, a crime drama subplot runs through all the entries; is difficult to follow if you haven't read the others; and is left open at the end to be continued. In addition, characters from other books do appear, though they aren't integral to the plot. All the books feature Age Play: if you enjoy that, there's plenty of it here (including pacifiers and stuffies; no diapers).

Exuberant, klutzy, clumsy Millie, from Nowhere, NE, comes to town on a mission (which isn't revealed until nearly the end). In the wrong place at the wrong time, she inadvertently overhears a threat against MC Daddy Spike. When she tries to warn him, she places herself in danger; a very reluctant Spike takes her home to protect her. Soon, he learns that she is a Little. Having put that side of himself away when his wife died a decade ago, he proposes that the two embark on a temporary DD/lg relationship. The rest of the book details that relationship, as well as his efforts to keep Millie safe.

I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I particularly liked Millie, who was completely adorable. I responded to her humor, her atypical backstory (her friends from "back home" were particularly well-drawn secondary characters), and the strength that lay beneath a seemingly scattered, deceptively sunny facade. Spike, I felt, was harder to get to know and less well-rounded, but, like all Ms. Roberts' H's, he was a highly protective, highly devoted Daddy to Millie. And, as always, I appreciated the discussion of consent, safe words, and limits.

I do have some quibbles. First, I never understood why Millie had such little self-confidence since it sounded like her friends and family were quite supportive. Second, while I enjoyed their slow-burn romance (I know other reviewers didn't, but I'm actually not one for insta-love), I did feel this book was too long. The ending, in particular, had about two climaxes (plot, not sexual) too many. I often feel that this author simply throws the kitchen sink into her endings: I wish that she would realize that more isn't better -- often, it's just more.

Finally, I, personally, was not bothered by the fact that Spike is a widower. While I understand that most romance readers respond to the One True Love trope, I'm fine with characters having a past. In this case, Spike's wife has been dead for years; he doesn't compare Millie to her; and I believe that we can love and lose and love again without it detracting from either relationship. YMMV.

4 stars. There's a hint at the end of the couple we'll get next.

Spike is such a stubborn man but he eventually comes around. Millie thinks she's nothing special. Can two lost souls find love with all sorts of danger around them? I loved that Spike gets a second chance at love and that it's with Millie. This whole story was so good, right from the first page to the last. All the characters from previous books is always a bonus to see and I can't wait for Razor and Tabby's story. I'm also really, really curious about Grady and Damon because it sounds like someone is going to get 2 Daddies in the future! Out of the 3 books in this series, I think this one is my favorite so far. And of course, I can't forget to mention Fox. LOL I need his story also! Shoot, I just need everyone's story!

Stand Alone? This couple’s story is complete but due to a continuing backstory and character crossover the series is best read in order.

Spike, ohhhhhh Spike. Quiet, intimidating, and grumpy Spike…. Who knew there was so much tenderness and sweetness from a man most the world wants to run from? I adore Daddy Spike on so many levels and his back story is absolutely heart wrenching.

Millie, ohhhhhh Millie. Sweet, little, innocent, naive and talkative Millie. Labeled “too much” by almost every important person in her life… who knew the person most the world wants to run from would be the one person to understand her in a way no one else does?

I loved Millie from page one… Spike took a bit to capture my heart but when he did, he captured it in a HUGE way. This story warmed my heart and kept me wondering and had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I was so caught up I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t put it down. I read to the point that I literally couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore and fell asleep with the book still open. I adored it and am starting the next one right now. This series is so good I can’t seem to wait.

Happy Reading my Friends!

Spike gets an unexpected second chance at love. Unfortunately for Millie, the road to winning Spike’s love, is one very hard fought. Spike thinks he’s unworthy, and Millie has some big secrets. Sweet story to love, with lots of suspense and great secondary characters. A very welcome appearance by our favorite, the Fox!

'Protector Daddy' is the third book in Laylah Roberts' "MC Daddies" Series, focusing on Spike and Millie. Millie is an endearing and quirky plus-size beauty from Nowhere, Nebraska. She's come to the city on a mission to find her half-sister's murderer. While navigating the seedier parts of town, she overhears a conversation between criminals and decides to warn their intended target, a gruff biker named Spike. Spike, a muscle-bound biker who lost his wife ten years ago, vowed never to love again. However, Millie's arrival turns his world upside down.
Ms. Roberts crafted a charming age-play romantic suspense story with complex characters. Millie and Spike's adorable relationship is filled with amusing banter that has me laughing at Millie's antics. The inclusion of the antagonist, Luther, adds suspense and keeps the plot engaging, leading to a satisfying resolution where justice prevails. I enjoyed the return of characters from previous books, like Fox, Damon Steele, and Grady, who enhance the story's intrigue. The quirky older folks from Nowhere also add a fun element. Ms. Roberts' skillful use of dialogue, point of view, and descriptive language contributes to the story's credibility and pacing.

I loved this. It was so well written and interesting. MC Daddies is definitely my favorite Laylah Roberts series! I know Tabby and Razor's story will be next, and now I also can't wait to read Grady and Damon's book, oh and of course all the rest: Reyes, Brody, Jewel, the twins, and of course The Fox! I'm definitely ready for more of this series.

I loved Millie, and she made it into the girl-crush shelf, so that says a lot, it has been a while since someone made it into there. I loved her humor, though I think most of it was unintended.

I really enjoyed the first 4th of this story, it had Millie's strange dry humor, there was action, it showed more than just one of the bikers. I enjoyed seeing her with Sunny and Betsy. Her friends are hilarious.

Then Millie is taken to Spike's house and the story grinds to a slog through mud pace. I liked the idea of Millie and Spike together but you don't get to see them together much. All she does is sit around the house. Her whole established character from the first part is taken away. It is just her and Spike and the dog, so you don't get to see her interactions with others which made the first part enjoyable. I would have been nice to see her with the girls again or the other members of the MC, but no one visits, so nothing interesting happens. It is just slow.

Then the last 4th all the stuff goes down, so the interest level goes back up.

I will say, again, I'm really enjoying the Fox character. I didn't expect to see more of him after the first story but really glad he has shown up in book 2 and 3. He is just so interesting.

The four starts are for Millie, otherwise this would have been 3

A Headstrong And Brave Little Meets Her Match

I couldn't help but absolutely adore Millie. She was the sweetest, kindest and bravest Little I have ever read. She was so selfless and thought of everyone else first. I just couldn't help but root for her happily ever after. And of course she got it.

Now Spike has shown up in the first couple of books in the series and you got glimmers of the daddy he could be or should be, so I found myself very curious to know his backstory and see the Little that would finally grab his heart.

I felt like this story had a lot going on, in a good way. Lots of action / adventure type of stuff and that was a lot of fun. But don't worry there was plenty of DDlg moments and steamy romance too.

I enjoy how Layla has written a MC romance with the DDlg lifestyle blended in. I never would have guessed that those two things could go together, but she does it flawlessly.

I'm excited for the continuation of this series, but I will honestly admit I'm mostly excited for The Fox's story. I cannot wait to learn more about him and the Little or Littles that finally capture The Fox.

Spike and Millie

TW: bl**d, m*rder, dr*gs, r@pe, DV, sh**ting, k!dnapping s*x traff!cking

Millie was a fun FMC, she was silly but also kinda a bada$$. It was fun to watch everyone panic over her while she just walks through a mine field(is that how you spell this!?)
Spike was honestly more chatty than I expected and it kinda through me off at first. I expected a lot of thoughts and very little words and it almost confused me when Millie points out how he’s usually quiet but is talking a lot because like how would she know?! He’s been so talkative to her. But anyway. Still a good story.

Tropes: who did this, touch her and d!e, damsel in distress(but she doesn’t seem to notice), hurt/comfort, over protective alphahole MMC, I can handle this myself FMC

I just can't get enough of this series. Spike is such a good daddy. He is growly, overprotective, and sweet. Sunny a do-gooder who does not know her limits. Put them together and you get a lovely funny couple. The puppy really made me laugh. There is also so much to make you smile in these stories.

Quick Summary
Sweet innocent Millie is on a mission but her big mushy heart gets her sidetracked when she overhears a threat to some unsuspecting people that won't let her do everything she can to warn them. Pair her with a lost puppy and her custom purse, and Millie is a force to be reckoned with :)

And she'll have her work cut out for her when she butts heads with Spike.

Spike isn't looking for a Little but every encounter with Millie awaken his Daddy instincts and when Millie's life is endangered, he'll pull out all the stops to keep her by his side, safe and sound.

 🖤 ~ My Thoughts ~ 🖤
This was another cute DD/lg read with likable characters and a HEA romance. Millie was the cutest, she was a quirky character that I found really endearing :) She was a little naive, being sheltered and not used to the big city or the dangers that are out there. I loved her big heart and her pull to help everyone around her. She definitely needed someone in her corner though and Spike eventually becomes that someone for her.

I wanted to love this one so hard! I love cute Littles and when they're paired with a big broody Daddy, I'm all in. But this one had something I don't mesh well with. And that was the fact that Spike is a widower, his first love and wife was also his Little. After loosing her, he pretty much closes his heart off because he never wants to love again.

I've softened a bit when it comes to this trope but it has to have a few key things. #1, don't compare the heroine with the dead wife and #2 have an emotionally ready Hero. Sadly this one fell a little short on both counts.

I honestly had my heart broken while reading this one and I don't think there was enough closure or groveling on Spike's part, tbh.

I wish there would have been more build up to Spike's sudden realization that the whole time he was pushing Millie away and convincing himself that this was all just temporary, he was actually in love with her. Waiting until the last minute felt really unconvincing. I felt like it was his guilt over hurting her and adding to that guilt was the fact that he felt responsible for her and almost losing her like that pushed him to a declaration of love that was a bit pre-mature.

Don't get me wrong, I loved that they finally work things out but Millie deserved a Daddy who appreciated her and showed her without a shadow of a doubt that she was it for him. Spike was a little too mean while he was protecting himself and at the expense of Millie's big overly forgiving heart. She was actually too nice! I love her but she needed hold out a little bit when it came to Spike. I would have loved to see her even out the playing field and make him work to get back into her good graces for a change.

Recommend? Yes, I still love this author and this series has a lot of potential side characters that are dying to have their stories told. Although not my favorite, I still read through this one in one sitting because I love the DD/lg world Roberts has created and I always enjoy my time there!

Memorable Moments: I laughed out loud when Millie chucks Chomper right at Spike's face during their little argument. Seriously that scene was so freakin perfect! I loved the silliness of it all and it just really stuck out for me. It was probably my favorite scene between Daddy and Little.

Then there's Hack! I love him! I swear, every time a new book comes out, I fall for a new character that I just have to read more about and Hack is one of them. I'm super intrigued by Steele and Grady but since I'm not into the whole Steele-Grady sandwich idea, I think I'm gonna have to pass on that one :(

Also can someone please direct me to a cute Little store where they sell Millie's creations??? I Need!

Heat Level: 3/5 This was the typical slow burn with few smexy times between them. I personally don't mind the slow burn and usually love them but Spike's stubbornness and Millie's easy acceptance of the crumbs he decided to leave her killed the little bit of their natural chemistry. I missed the romance and instant connection we usually get in Ms. Robert's books.

Contains:  older man, younger woman romance, murder/violence, no diaper play, some spanking, corner time, baby bottles, some baby talk, Little between 4-6 years.

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is hands down my favorite in this series (to date) and can I say how much I adore both Millie and Spike? They're relationship has so much chemistry! There are so many witty banters and laugh out loud moments... I didn't expect it from Spike's book! These couple absolutely outshined the other couples (and that's a huge deal cause the first two are awesome pairs too!) Highly recommended!

Spike et Millie (Millicent Margaret)

Investisseur
Daddy / Petite fille

« Vous connaissez les Iron Shadows ?

« Non, qui sont-ils ? » Luther a craqué.

"Ooh, j'adore ton sweat à capuche", lui a dit Millie.

1.5* and that’s being generous. It isn’t a proper Mc, he’s not a proper daddy, & there’s a stupid plot.

Oh boy. So the first book I loved, I gave up on Ink’s book as I hated the way that he treat the h for a good chunk of the book, then there’s this….
Skid isn’t a proper daddy, and she’s not a proper little.
They’re not a proper Mc. They never have church, and only Ink has ever been to Skids house, as he’s really wealthy and doesn’t want them to know! They’re not a family in any shape or size!
Just because Millie is a little, doesn’t mean to say that she should say things like, “I’s not tired.” What child ever speaks like that??? Answer: NONE!!!
Then there’s the way that Spike treats her for pretty much the whole book, as though he can’t stand the fact that he’s starting to care for her. After losing his wife over ten years ago, he still won’t let himself move on. So he treats her like she’s a temporary fling and makes her really insecure about her looks, and the fact that she’s loud and funny.

One last thing, before I throw my kindle: Relationships don’t have to be hard work, and the men don’t always have to push the women away, and be nasty to them. Till they decide that they love them and then they become possessive crazy people!!!

Slow burn DD/Lg romance

Protectiveness is the name of the game in this series. And this book takes it to the max. I love the series and the premise of big protective bikers finding their little girls to spoil and care for. There is a storyline thread that runs through all the books and builds on the previous although you could read this as a standalone.

This book has not been my favourite. The storyline left Spike and Millie alone in his house for most of the book and thus it felt very much like a cabin romance. The couple did not interact with other characters together until the end of the book. Given that this is an MC romance and and we already have other support Little characters the isolation of the main characters felt wrong.

However, Millie is a very likeable Little and Spike a very over protective Daddy, although both needed to deal with emotional issues before moving forward in the relationship. As usual in this series, sexy times were a slow burn and the story remains romantically sweet. I did root for the HEA.

Ahh, I freaking love Spike! He’s rough around the edges and has some issues but once you get to know him he is the absolute sweetest.. but only to Millie. Swoon. 😍

I cannot wait for Reyes’ story! Even more excited for Grady and Steele though!! 🥵 Oct 31st can’t come soon enough!

July 2022 review:

~When Millie overhears something she shouldn’t, she searches for the man in danger. Too bad he thinks he doesn’t need her help and just pushes her away. That doesn’t stop her though. Spike is scared of no one, they’re scared of him. This girl is a menace, constantly putting others before herself. He wants to protect her but doesn’t want to get too close. Afterall, he still loves his dead wife.~

Love how determined Millie was to help Spike. He is so protective of her and its adorable. So happy he is able to move on and be okay with it. Millie deserves the world and so does Spike.

Ugh!!! The first half of the book was hilarious! I loved it. The second half it was like the writer gave up and got kind of boring. The further into the series you get, the less the sex is involved. Though they're pimped like erotic books, they're really focused more on story and not a lot of sex. There's a lot of talk about sex, but not much having it.

Yummy

Spike makes a surprising daddy! Lots of drama and intrigue, very funny moments, and tons of chemistry between the characters.

Millie’s sweet country innocence gets her in trouble soon after she arrives in the big city and overhears a conversation that could get her killed. Millie’s can’t sit by and do nothing & her determination sets off a chain of events that will forever change her life. Spike can’t believe when Millie confronts him outside the MC bar to try to warn him about the death threat & her feisty attitude gets under his skin bringing to life emotions he has kept locked away. When Spike runs into her again when meeting with Steele, he knows he is the only one who can protect her after she has gotten in a plethora of trouble after being in town such a short time. Millie thinks Spike is overreacting to the threats when he brings her to his home so he can protect her 24/7. Spike hasn’t had a Little since his wife died but Millie’s quirky personality with eccentricities intrigues him and brings his Daddy dom to the surface as Millie just can’t help getting into trouble. As Spike helps Millie experience what a true DDLG relationship is like, he tries to keep his emotional distance as he is not sure he is ready to be fully committed to someone again and Millie knows eventually she has to go home. But their temporary relationship starts to feel all too real as the danger escalates and when Millie gets shot outside of Steele’s club, Spike knows he can never let her go as he has fallen in love. When Millie finally reveals the menacing secret that brought her to the big city, Spike and Steele have a puzzle to solve as Millie’s tale is full of red flags that connect back to vicious men. When the dam bursts from all the pain Millie has kept locked inside for years, Spike has his work cut out for him trying to help Millie recover while working with Steele to solve the deadly puzzle before the psycho from Steele’s past finds Millie to finish the deadly secret that brought Millie to town.

Millie, the female lead character in this book, is so awkwardly adorable you want to be able to reach into the pages and give her a hug. Spike, the male lead character, grouchily fights against his attraction to her, but since this is ultimately a love story, I’m sure you can imagine how well he doesn’t succeed! They are both characters who have suffered a lot of pain in their lives and slowly come to realize how well they each complete the other. Be aware that Millie and Spike enter into a Daddy Dom/Little relationship. If you’ve never read a book like that don’t let it put you off; Each of them actually fills a very nurturing role for the other that is gratifying to them both.

I don’t want to explain much about the plot of this book because it would be too tempting to give spoilers or too much information. Suffice to say it has an unsolved murder, rival gangs, organized crime, and plenty of all different types of emotions, including tearful and laugh out loud moments. There is a lot of action, a good amount of suspense and mystery, plenty of steam and intriguing foreshadowing of books to come. This is totally a stand-alone but there are references to characters in other books the author has written and if you recognize them, it gives you a little jolt of awareness.

This story pulled me in and didn’t let go until the very last page. A couple of the plot twists made my jaw drop! I have enjoyed an array of books from Laylah Roberts, but I have to say I think this was my favorite. In addition to the great main characters, there is an awesome array of secondary characters with memorable personalities. And a sleepy but mischievous puppy. Even a great book is better when you add a cute puppy!

I did enjoy this book but there were some big things that kept me from loving it.

I love Millie. I was a little worried at first that I would eventually get tired of her or find her annoying but I never did. She genuinely made me laugh several times. She is definitely a quirky character that you could see coming from this small town. Her group of friends was hilarious and cute. She also had a depth to her that you start to uncover as you get to know her.

Spike and the relationship between him and Millie was the reason I didn't love it. He does have all the qualities we have seen in the other heroes in this author's work but the way he handled some things rubbed me the wrong way. It didn't bother me he was a and if anything I think it did explain some of his actions. But he does spend a good amount of the book trying to stay away from our heroine and hurting her in the process. To clarify, his intent was never to harm her but he says and does some really hurtful things and I don't feel like that was properly addressed by the heroine or the story. She kind of just lets it go. I am not a big fan of the conflicted or the hot then cold trope in romance. So when it comes to the actual romance it ended up feeling a little off to me. I actually found myself wishing Steele and Grady would take her tbh but maybe that's just me.

The plot got a bit hectic and crazy at the end with a lot of different things happening either on-screen or off. It does require you to read the previous books to understand everything that is happening or at least to get a better context.

Overall, not my favorite in terms of couples but I think Millie might be one of my favorite heroines of this author's work thus far.
