Worth It – The Gods Made Me Do It #8

Zeus's Story

Paulie’s life changed for the better when he was saved from a fate worse than death one night just before Christmas. His saviors, Wes a wolf shifter and Cass who was a demon, would only tell him that his innocence had been noted by others and they’d been sent to save him. Handing Paulie a briefcase that contained all he needed for a fresh start, Wes and Cass put him on a bus that would take him to his new life, and that was that.

But despite everything he’d been given, and his strong desire to make things work, Paulie struggled to fit into normal life. For one thing, tiger shifters were solitary animals, and Paulie found it difficult to make friends. Having been homeless for twelve years didn’t help either, as Paulie felt he had nothing in common with the people around him. When another attack resulted in Wes and Cass intervening for him a second time, all three realized that Paulie needed more than the contents of a briefcase – he needed the security that only a Fated Mate could bring him.

Ancient Greek God Zeus realized who Paulie was to him the first time he’d spied Paulie being followed into a dark alley by a group of thugs up to no good. Sending Wes and Cass to intervene was Zeus’s form of a compromise. He knew he could never claim Paulie as his mate, but he could see to it the young tiger shifter was safe and had the tools to forge a decent life for himself. As he always got his own way, as far as Zeus was concerned, that was that. Until it wasn’t.

Pushy demons, interfering gods and even the Fates all seemed to have an opinion on what was best for Paulie. But when Zeus thinks Paulie has gone missing, he’s prepared to start another great war just to get him back. Which must mean Zeus does want Paulie – right? Maybe a summoning will help.

My regular readers were introduced to Paulie (as Paul) in the conclusion of Home is Where The Heart Is, which was Cass and Wes’s story (The Cloverleah Series #13). This book can be read as a standalone but reading previous books in the Gods Made Me Do It series will give a better understanding of secondary characters.

Contains strong language, some violence, and graphic intimate scenes intended for an adult audience. Please note, this is an MM Fated Mates story and includes elements of mpreg, although that is not the main focus of the story.

My first book in this series and I easily read it as a stand-alone, the side characters were written in a way which made me know them even without having read their stories.

I like the reluctant mate trope, and that's what Zeus is giving us, having no want or need for a mate and cursing the fates for forcing him.
Paulie was strong minded and an absolute match for a god that at times acted like a toddler with a tantrum.
The sweetness wasn't over the top and that's what made it for me in the end, they worked for their ending.
I'll most likely pick up another book from the series another time.

Paulie ftw!

Paulie is not a great name to me. Honestly I always think of that parrot movie or a shady mobster, but THIS paulie was so sweet and adorable I let that junk go real fast. Tried to anyway. Okay I'm still not over it, but I truly thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Paulie had such a hard life. Given the boot by his mother, living in the streets with nothing and then being sort of rejected by his mate. (For just a little while, come on We all knew it would happen so it's not a spoiler.) He was so hard working and sweet. The kind of person you want to hug and be friends with.

Wanted to gut punch zeus. Dang but I wanted to gut punch him so bad. In true Lisa Oliver fashion he was a massive tool but his big turn around seemed almost more believable than some of the others. He really was just an emotionally immature toddler and once he threw his tantrums he was fine. Gah! Just loved this.

This purchase was so WORTH IT (lawls, had to do it). Another amazing title by Lisa oliver. She sucks you into these universes and you never want to leave. I'll probably marathon the rest of the series again just because it was so awesome.

A great km paranormal romance

In this book Zeus gets a mate he didn't want and did everything he could to avoid. He knew Paulie, a young homeless tiger shifter was his mate for several months but didn't connect with him. He sent the team, Cas, a demon and Wes, a wolf shifter to rescue Paulie from some humans intendin,g to rape then kill him. On behalf of Zeus they give him an apartment money and enrollment to college. Zeus did not want to claim him but did want to set him up to be successful. Paulie worked hard but he hadn't even gone to high school so he really struggled. Finally Zeus had to get more hands on but when meeting Paulie he still insisted he didn't want a mate but the tiger shifted and bit him. Zeus runs back to Olympus and we all know what happens when a fated mate is separated. Zeus is really a jerk but all the other gods and their mates support Paulie. We have lots of drama but finally get our hea. This is a fun read and a great addition to the series.

Overall I enjoyed the book. Zeus was a bit of a douche to Paulie. Keeping him safe was okay, but he knew very little about his mate.

Past characters appeared and made me love them more. (Hades and Ra were my favourite gods in this book). Learning new mythology, great.

But...a few things bothered me despite how much I liked Paulie.

Paulie talks about his siblings A LOT. I believe he had a chance to make a difference in their lives but doesn’t. There’s a chance they’re homeless too. They’re vulnerable. When they talk about hiring at the end, why not them or half shifters or others who are as vulnerable as Paulie was. If he is that pure of spirit, curious why his thoughts didn’t turn to others as they did with his punishments of the goddesses. Perhaps a minor point, but it still bothers me as a reader. When I’m thinking of them instead of the main characters.

Devoured immediately!

Whenever there is a new book by Lisa Oliver it is an instant purchase for me. Followed by snuggling down in my favorite spot and reading the book in it's entirety.

The thing I adore about Lisa's writing is her attention to character development. I truly feel like she is one of the rare authors that creates characters so complete that each one could be a person in reality. This book was simply the latest installment to reaffirm that belief.

If you are like me and jump into the middle of a series because it pops up on your recommended list, you will simply enjoy the story at first and then enjoy it again once you have read from the beginning of the series.

Absolutely perfect

I loved how utterly ridiculous Zeus was throughout most of this book. He was so much like Sei in his views, only without having actually been as promiscuous. Though, I have to say that the most delightfully silly, for me, was when he’s trying to convince Paulie into the New York house and (completely serious) tells his mate that they should get tennis courts because ‘sport is healthy’. 😂

But, by far, the most beautiful, and emotional scene in this series was in this book. I teared up with happy feelings at the end of this book when Paulie and Zeus introduce their child to Paulie’s father. That scene alone earned this book all of the accolades it rightfully deserves.

Zeus finally gets his story.

Whilst I enjoyed the story I definitely didn't like the way Zeus treated Paulie and it took me a while to warm up to the couple.

Zeus used to being given everything he wanted finds himself tied to a young tiger shifter Paulie but can't handle the thought of only being with one person forever and treats Paulie like a casual fling until his brother Hades and his mate Ali gets involved. Paulie is a sweet innocent shifter who doesn't realise that he is special and it takes his disappearance for Zeus to realise that being mated just might be the greatest thing that has ever happened to him.

Lots of characters from the other books on up in this story and I really hope Ra gets his happy ever after next.

I love Lisa Oliver’s characters and this whole interconnected world she has created. I have not read them all…yet…but what I have read I have loved. Paulie deserves all the good things in life. He has had it rough as a tiger shifter. I was not a fan of Zeus, but somehow that didn’t surprise me too much. He was so determined not to let go of the idea he had formed about monogamy and fated mates that he hurts both Paulie and himself. Paulie though is made of much stronger stuff than that. I loved his character and how he accepts things and is determined to live better and be better. Enjoyed reading this one even if I did want to smack Zeus upside the head once or twice.

Great addition to the Gods Made Me Do It

I loved Paulie and was so glad to see him get his HEA. Zeus was a bit problematic for me; I thought he was a little dense for an omnipotent being. Fortunately he came around and, as Lisa said, in the afterword, it sounds like he was hard to write.

Looking forward to Ra’s story to see what Lisa does with the Egyptian pantheon. I have loved most of her twists on Greek and Norse mythology.

A solid addition to the Cloverleah and God’s series.

Rating: 3.5 stars

If it weren’t for the fact that Zeus was obnoxious and unlikeable for over half this book, I would have rated this higher. I really hated him and he’s very lucky that Paulie was a forgiving sort because I’m not sure I would have forgiven him for most of his actions. Paulie by contrast, I really liked. I liked seeing him come into his own and gain confidence as the book progressed. So while not perfect, I did enjoy the book and will read more from this series in the future.

I love this series

Zeus finally has to face the music. He has been avoiding contact with shifters because he does not want a mate. He can't help but observe and come to Paulie's aide when he is attacked. The fun begins. This series is always fun to read. Sexy times, gods making fools of themselves, and love. That is what you will find when you buy and begin reading this series. Please don't pirate books. It is stealing and taking money from someone else's pocket. Support your favorite authors by buying their works.

Another fantastic book in 'The Gods made me do it series.

I highly recommed this series. This new book about Paulie and Zeus is a great read. It had me laughing out loud at how Zeus fought step by step to accept to see what a special gift he was given by the Fates.

I highly enjoy and recommend everything Lisa Oliver has written. If you want great stories that make you laugh with a HEA every time, and always leaving you wanting more then check her books out!

Absolutely brilliant

Lisa Oliver has done it again. Love all the "God's Made Me Do It" and this one was no exception. Zeus was moody, likes to throw tantrums and selfish and Paulie having had a hard life to start with then has to put up with Zeus. But they manage to work things out and discover they are perfect for each other. Loved the scene with the estate agent. Can't wait for the next one in the series.

Perfection!

I have yet to read one of Lisa Oliver’s books that I didn’t love! As this series go through the various Gods, each one has been an incredible journey. I particularly enjoyed reading this one, since there was so much mis-information regarding Zeus! As usual, Lisa Oliver handled him with humor, family and love. If this is your first foray into the worlds of this amazing writer, I envy you! Highly recommended!

Beautiful story

This was an amazing read.

I fell in love with Paulie almost immediately. He was sweet and lost and so much happened to him it made my heart break. I loved how he changes and grows as the book goes.
I loved Zeus. I would have loved to shake some sense into him at the beginning, but as I read I understood his reasoning.

The ending was absolutely beautiful and there might have been a tear or two.

I can't wait for the next book in this amazing series

Zeus is another of those gods who thinks he doesn't want or needs a mate.
But even when he's watching Paulie from afahe can't help to rescue and provide for him even if he really doesn't know what Paulie really needs.
Paulie himself is adorable and an amazing, unique tiger shifter and I'm happy he stands up for himself and that his tiger doesn't just take things.

But in the end they are fated mates and are perfect for each other.

I love this series

I like that these serious, older-than-dirt gods can have new experiences. And honestly, paulie is just too cute! Huge heart, and love his idea of justice. It’s pretty much something I would have done. I’d be interested in learning more about how those girls are faring. Maybe they need mates as well ... I do love my M/M romances but I’d read a M/F or a Bisexual ménage if it was this universe.

Great story ideas.

Just like the other stories in this series of books, this one lives up to the high standards of the rest of this series. Lisa Oliver has come up with many plots that fascinate the reader and fantasy is the name of the game.
Except for some spelling errors, Lisa's books are easy to read and comprehension is quick with her amazing stories. I have bought many of her books and will continue to buy them.
I hope she continues to write well into the future.

As ever: the best author

I am not a great writer like Lisa Oliver, but I will do my best.

I have loved every book that she has ever wrote and I could get my hands on. I am really happy that Lisa Oliver has continued the stories I love. I have been waiting for Zeus's story for some time and I wasn't disappointed, which I'm never am.

As always a wonderful story, marvellous characters and a great HEA. Glad Zeus finally got his head out of his butt and gave Paulie all that he deserved. I really enjoyed this book, read in one sitting. Waiting patiently for Ra's book. Thank you Lisa for another wonderful book

Excellent!

Lisa has done it again. This was a roller coaster of a book and poor Paulie had a really bad time of it during his short life with the adamantly resistant Zeus but they overcame their trials and tribulations.

Some serious angst along with a fair amount of humour made this a super read.

I hope that it will be on Audible soon.

Always awesome!

I always enjoy Lisa's books, whether I'm reading them the first time, or the fifth, and this one is as good as I hoped :) This is book 8 in the series, and lives up to all the others. If you have read and enjoyed any of the rest of the series, you will enjoy this one! Happy reading!

Finally Zeus gets caught

I had been wondering who would be next in the series and Zeus was a good choice. He was so stubborn and hardheaded. I fell in love with Paulie immediately. Enjoyed the cameos from the other couples from the previous books, especially Ali and Hades. The next book will be very interesting and I can't wait. Excellent job, Ms Lisa,as always.

Reading a Lisa Oliver book is a like a mini holiday for me

I'm not going to give a rundown of the storyline as I dislike spoilers. But this book is a good addition to the 'The gods made me do it series. I'm looking forward to Ra's story next, but until then I guess I'll reread the series.

Loved it

I love all the books by Lisa Oliver but this seems special. Zeus and Paulie's story explores how finding that special someone can really explode all your preconceived notions of how a relationship should and all the pain and uncertainty it can bring. As with all my favorite books, I laughed and I cried but it all worked out in the end.

Pauli and Zeus are the couple in this paranormal romance. There are a number of secondary characters which make more sense if read as part of the series, but yes, this can be a standalone. I am particularly fond of Pauli. He overcomes both abandonment, homelessness and awkward charity to become an adult worthy of the pantheon.

These guys were so cute. Paulie’s tiger was my favorite and I love that we got to see more of Ali in this story. I’m going to have to go reread some of the other books in this series now.
