A biker finds the body of a woman jogger on a mountain trail. Easy first clues point to her boyfriend. It’s not that easy. He has an airtight alibi. Lieutenant Beaudry’s case is fast turning into a can of worms. Her brother runs a very profitable porno operation. The victim’s life is darker and darker the deeper he digs. When a ten-year-old girl is abducted, Beaudry’s case turns into something far uglier. He’s about to break a detective's first rule. Never get involved with the victims.

Lieutenant Beaudry is a lone wolf. He has the best closed-record in his department ... ever. He also had had the most interviews with Internal Affairs for gun related incidents.
A woman's body is found along a mountain trail. Once identified, main suspect becomes her boyfriend. And in another connected case, a ten-year-old girl is abducted, what he finds is more horrifying than first thought.
He has friends and contacts on both sides of the law, and in order to save this child, it's going to take both sides helping.
Although 6th in the series, this one can easily be read as a stand alone. It's short read ...less than 150 pages, but it's well written and filled with memorable characters. Beaudry, himself, is quite a character ... he has a sense of humor, sometimes bordering on the brink of sarcasm, but usually always merits a grin if not an out loud hee-haw.
Many thanks to the author / BooksGoSocial / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
This is part of series but can certainly be read as a stand alone book. It is fairly short and moves along at good pace keeping you engaged all the way. The characters are well developed and the ineraction brings a smile to your face. Well worth a read if you want something quick.
The charming renegade detective, Lieutenant Beaudry, does it again. Using his fearless tactics and personal connections with other tough cops and a few friendly gangsters , he finds the trail from a murder to a child pornography ring. With a few amusing detours into sentimental romance and to lighten the darkness. An entertaining story and a good read. Recommended for fans of good detective tales. Beaudry reminds me of Ian Rankin's Detective John Rebus. Well done, Michael Kent!
A runner's death leads Montreal cop down the rabbit hole🚨🚔
For a shorter length police procedural, I thought the plot was pretty compelling. Montreal police detective Lieutenant Beaudry takes full advantage of the contacts he has made on both sides of the law to nab the murderer of a woman runner in the Mount Royal area of Montreal. If he can help solve other crimes and rescue vulnerable kids along the way it's all to the better. His live-in girlfriend seems to be his secret weapon and happy to help with an information hack here and there.
His investigation's extension into child exploitation was an interesting addition but the author only really skims the issue. The poor original murder victim sort of gets left behind if not totally forgotten once endangered children come into the picture.
I thought it was a good plot and I liked Beaudry, maverick though he is. Not a classic or must-read, but an enjoyable chase. I would happily read other works by the author.
Thanks to Books Go Social and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
First and foremost this is my first read by Michael Kent. I don’t normally read thrillers or crime. But every now and then I like to branch out and this one was quite a surprise.
The story begins with Lieutenant Beaudry, a well known and quite popular policeman who prefers to work alone. And has the highest rating of closed records, not including the most interviews for his work. Essentially he is the one you got to if you have a case you cannot solve.
In Dead Run, woman’s body is found along a trial. After being identified the suspects turns out to be her boyfriend. All the while a ten year old girl goes missing, seemingly abducted. Luckily, the lieutenant has contacts that hover just above criminal. And its going to take both sides of the law to come to a conclusion on this one. All in all I enjoyed it, what keeps you interested is the main character himself as he is funny to the point of sarcastic.
I had no clue when I asked to read this one that is in a series and is the sixth one but it can be read as a stand-alone.
Thanks to Netfalley and the publisher BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read the ARC.
This was my first experience with Lieutenant Beaudry and I had a blast! I grew up in Montreal and spent my first 17 years there and I had a kick out of following him through the streets and the neighborhoods. The multiculturalism of my hometown is beautifully exploited to bring life to the decor. Beaudry is very likeable, with a witty sense of humor, a good heart and a slight dose of disrespect for the proper way of doing things. The pace is quick and each chapter leaves us wanting to know more. The author skillfully plays with anticipation and dread, keeping us on our toes until the end.
Thank you to author Michael Kent for this FREE Kindle copy of Dead Run.
I thought the writing, story, characters, cover design and action were well done. They give this book a 4-star. The editing is what held this one back. Otherwise, a good read.
Dead Run is the first novel I have read by author Michael Kent. I can say with absolute certainty that it will not be my last! It is often hard finding time to pick up a book (with 2 toddlers), but I didn't want to miss a night of reading Dead Run. I was engaged from the first page. Having never been to Montreal, I began mapping out the locations so clearly represented in the novel, the streets, the houses, the restaurants, the *spoiler alert* highway chase! Beaudry and Nico make a great team, and who wouldn't love Beaudry's maine coon, Crackers! Follow Beaudry as he unravels a slew of crime, bringing justice to innocent victims. Looking forward to reading more Lieutenant Beaudry novels.
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC. Lieutenant Beaudry gets involved in the case of a murdered woman whose body was found by a motorcyclist. This seems to be connected to a pedophile gang, when a young girl goes missing. He works together with a police friend who is on the hunt for the leaders of the gang. I hadn't read the previous books in the series, but it was easily read as a standalone. Beaudry is a very likeable character in a steady, loving relationship. He is a bit of a renegade when it comes to following rules, but he gets results. I love the fact the story takes place in Montreal, as I lived there for a couple of years. On the whole I enjoyed the story, with the odd joke thrown in making it a good read.
At the beginning of this book I thought it would be a typical murder mystery with a serial killer. I like that there was a change and it also became a search to not only find a murderer but to also bring down someone in the child pornography industry.
I love Robert and Pat's relationship. Both are involved in the same industry and very understanding of each other. I want to tell her im sorry what shes going through but i know she is just a character HaHa.
This was a 3.5 for me. I enjoyed the read but I personally cannot say that I loved it. There was something missing for me.
A woman is found dead on a trail and a missing child, two different cases that have one thing in common and the detective needs to investigate, connect the dots and arrest the suspects.
The book has a good idea, but I was not develop it well. It's a short book, so crime and investigation takes place quickly and directly, without developing the characters. In other words, we do not know the lives of the victims or the detective properly, so we are unable to get attached to them and get involved in the story. And as it is a short book, there was space to write more and have that deepening.
I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the earlier novels in the series. It stands alone as a story but the character development was a bit light, probably on the assumption that people had read the others. It’s a good story and I think demonstrates well how hard it must be for police and detectives to set and retain boundaries with the victims of crime. A good book.
