I ran in the night, fleeing my husband and the community that raised me and betrayed me. Battered and bruised, with only my bare feet to carry me through the forest and down Mount Awe, eventually exhaustion claims me.
I wake in a bed that’s not my own two days later with no recollection of how I got there. Anderson is sweet but stern. Handsome but rugged. He’s everything I never knew existed, but I can’t stay.
Not even for him.
Anderson
I found her in the night, broken and huddled against a tree for safety while she slept. Taking her back to my cabin came easy. Letting her go is impossible.
Her innocent grey eyes call to the beast inside me that’s desperate to claim her as my own. Her past wants to take her away from me, but nothing will stand in my way of keeping Del.
Not even her own fears.
This quick insta-love read has an OTT possessive hero who will do anything to protect and claim his woman. Deliver Me from Evil can be read as a complete standalone, with future releases following different characters.
Adelaide fell in love with books at a young age and quickly discovered her love for writing soon after. Since then, she’s become a self-professed plot hoarder of over 300 book concepts. After receiving her degree in Psychology, Adelaide went on to work in a therapeutic riding facility. When her daughter was born, Adelaide traded out her boots to be a stay-at-home mom. In 2019, she added author to those job duties after a lifetime of dreaming about it.
Deliverance comes from a very religious cult background, a cult that holds certain beliefs and shelters their women. She is forced to marry a man that’s the same age as her father, because his other wives/women haven’t given him any children. Del is now the “chosen” one. She marries him and finds out how sickening he really is.
She escapes on her wedding night, not being able to bare laying with her aging husband who is abusive and callous towards her and her innocent mind. Anderson sees her passed out and rescues her from the harsh natural elements. When she comes to, he finds out how sheltered she’s been and how little she knows about a lot of things.
Of course, she might be considered an innocent, but she is extremely attracted to Anderson, and he is besotted with her as well. Although she’s innocent in many ways, he’s willing to teach her anything she needs to learn and is insistent on allowing her to make choices and feel whatever she needs to feel- so different from the way the cult raised her to be. Her husband, Jonathan, wants her back, but Anderson is possessive enough that he will fight for her.
Although this is short, the few intimate scenes were not only sweet, but 🔥. We get a cute epilogue and the making of maybe another book with other people that appear at the end.
Deliver Me from Evil is a quick story about a young woman Deliverance who is raised in a cult and forced the marry it's old leader. On the night of their wedding she refuses him and runs, only to find herself exhausted and lost in the woods. She is found by Anderson who takes her back to his cabin and cares for her. This book is insta everything so if you have issue with that this isn't the book for you. Now while that doesn't bother me I didn't love how Anderson decided to keep her. From almost the moment she wakes up she was his woman which bothered me since she has no idea of the world, she can't even read. Anyway like I said quick read and yes I will probably read book 2.
So this was a good instalove romance. This is a really quick novella. If you are not into anything instalove, don't read this.
Deliverance escaped a religious cult on her wedding night after she didn't want to have sex with the leader. She collapses in the forest, and the H finds her. He halls hard instantly and decides to make her his. He needs to protect her from the cult. Luckily, he is ex military.
"Deliver Me from Evil" is the story of Deliverance and Anderson.
The heroine has grown up in a cult. When a forced marriage with a cult leader goes awry, she escapes only to be rescued by the hero. He shows her the meaning of love, they have sex and defeat her demons.
This is advertised as an Insta love story, but it’s done in such a way that it doesn’t feel as instant as say a Jessa Kane book or a novella of that length. I really enjoyed that about this one.
Deliverance was raised in a cult. Her parents have lost their ever loving minds, deciding that their much older cult leader marrying Deliverance (wife #3), for reproducing, is Gods will. On her wedding night, Deliverance runs away, absolutely terrified. With nowhere to go, and injured, Deliverance falls asleep.
Anderson is a bit of a loner. He hasn’t found his match yet, the women that have been in his life are not the type to make a life off the grid. One morning while out hunting for his meal Anderson comes across an unconscious Deliverance.
Deliverance awakes to find herself attracted to Anderson, but she needs to get as far away from the cult as possible. Will she be able to allow Anderson to help her with her problem?
Anderson knows what he wants and Deliverance everything he could ever dream of. But can he get her to open up about why she was alone in the woods? And how far is he willing to go to save the love of his life.
This was a fast paced read that kept my attention from start to finish!
This insta love story was perfect! Deliverance is wedded to the leader of the cult her family belongs to. And she is told to be grateful, but she decides to make a run for it. She meets up with Anderson and he instantly claims her as his own. Very quick and good read!
I think the real winners of 2020 are novellas. People are stressed and busy, and a short, sweet, hot story just hits the spot.
Deliver Me from Evil is a perfect break from reality, with a fully realized romance and characters. With a novella, every word has to count, and every word in Deliver is perfectly placed.
With likable characters, hateable bad guys, entertaining side characters, and insight into one of the darker aspects of our society, Deliver Me from Evil is not as light as many novellas, but the swoon is so deep, you will still feel uplifted at the end.
This is a novella but it was still a little too insta lovie for me. I prefer the slow burns personally. But this was a good quick read to get through a reading slump before I tackle something longer.
This has cults and marriages to creepy old men. It has sexy lumberjacks out in the middle of the woods. It has a dominant alpha male that doesn't want his things touched. And a little sprinkle of murder. Lol.
Even though this is a novella the plot was pretty interesting.
All in all, fun, quick, with a dash of good old fashion spice.
Romance genre: insta love; mountain man Part of a series: Yes (The Men of Mount Awe) Length: 64 pages
Plot: Deliverance has run away from her home, her husband, and her family. She runs through the woods, stopping only when she can't go on anymore. Anderson finds her, and knows that she was meant to be his. He learns her story: her family was part of a cult, and as such, married her off to the old leader. The night of her wedding, she took off. Now Anderson knows that his new purpose in life is to protect Del from her "husband" and anyone else who comes after her.
Character development: This is a short story, and the characters are as advertised: extremely sheltered, sweet, virginal heroine and protective, bulldozing hero. Their opposite natures complement each other, and so they get what they need. Del gets someone to protect her, take care of her, and love her, and Anderson gets someone to love and take care of, which is what his protective nature demands.
Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes
This is a short and quick read with instant love or what I like to call love at first sight . Anderson lives in a secluded area on a mountain. While hunting he comes across a young woman beaten and bloody. He knows she is his and when he finds out where Del is from and what she has been through he is determined to keep her safe . Del was a likable heroine who was very sheltered from the world but she and Anderson had perfect chemistry together . This is unlike anything Adelaide has ever written before but it was so good . She has a knack for writing possessive and protective alphas and Anderson is no exception . Her writing flows smoothly and the story is paced perfectly as always . I would read the phone book if this woman wrote it . Don’t miss this short but amazing read !
This insta love story is short, sweet, and oh so satisfying! Confident, sexy, and protective, Anderson is one irresistible alpha male. Naive, innocent and beautiful, Del is like watching a butterfly blossom. Five stars for Adelaide Forrest and her ability to weave a story that leaves me salivating for the next book in this series.
I will always appreciate a short palate cleanser. This reminded me of the Netflix documentary Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey which I really enjoyed, which was a plus.
So this author is now my FAV author!! When I saw a insta love, quick read I had to get it! So this was really cool in the fact that it was about a h who comes from a cult and is saved by a ex military mountain man basically. Great story line, it’s got steam but isn’t based in those scenes so it’s got depth and a good story and action. Excited to read the next. I wouldn’t say this was OTT possessive. He was a strong alpha male but there wasn’t a lot of moments for possessiveness. There is some throat holding, and taking care of her which is a plus.
i felt extremely uncomfortable reading about a young woman who escapes a cult only to be found by a man who initiates a relationship with her even though she knows zero things about the world. he's a grown, experienced man who's a lot older than her, and she has the life experience and knowledge of a fucking 10 year old. he's also the only thing standing in the way of the cult taking her back, yet instead of taking her to a police station or just SOMEWHERE further away from the cult, he keeps her in his house. where she depends completely on him. uhm so how is she supposed to be able to consent to sex with him?? id love to know that. so messed up.
Heroine goes from one trap to another as she leaves her cult for an ultra-controlling man who also gives her no real choices. I can't imagine the psychological fallout that will surely come. Also, there was a massacre with no police involvement or mention of what happened to the bodies in the couple's home. Only mentioned that they fixed a broken window, showered and were chuckling and screwing mere hours later.🙄
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Was it just me or did it feel like the h went from a cult where she was given no choice to a H who gave her no choice.? He basically pressured her into a sexual and emotional relationship way before she was ready considering what she had just escaped. I liked the scenes of retribution though.
Oh man, this one is simply dreamy. Soooo dreamy. A huge dangerous grumpy loner Alpha, Anderson, living in his mountain retreat & happy to stay that way. Only FATE throws him a beautiful, fragile, precious curve(d) ball by the name of Deliverance. He's Alpha, confident, enraptured & NOTHING & NO ONE will frighten or harm his little Del. She's naive, sheltered & knows nothing of the world or people outside of her family & husband's cult. She doesn't want Anderson to be threatened or harmed by her baggage in any way & as soon as possible she'll bolt from his home to try & find somewhere else safe. Anderson has an agenda too: DESTROY all danger to Del & continue their lives. Together. But what happens when Del's past finally does come for her & blood? Ms. Forrest gives us a novella that is BURSTING with tension, suspense, danger, romance, sensual heat that sizzles & an absolutely wonderful romance. Her Alpha Hero is so perfect: Huge, muscled, OTT possessive & yet so gentle & understanding of the delicate terrified beauty he saved. He's so careful with her, so thoughtful even as he impresses on her that he'll protect her & keep her safe no matter from who or what. And the heroine, though shy & naive & trained to be submissive, is far from a doormat & has an inner core of quiet steel & determination. In addition we're given a thrilling plot, tension (sensual as well as danger-wise) that keeps us on delectable tenterhooks, deeply fleshed out characters, excellent secondary characters all which keep the reader enthralled from first page to the last. But most of all, the reader is gifted with Ms. Forrest's marvelous writing ability that pulls us into this story effortlessly, makes us CARE, makes us INVESTED in, INTRIGUES us as only the best writing is able to do. This one is a perfect mini-vacation from the real world peopled with an H/h that we truly root for & cross our fingers they'll reach their HEA: Together. A superb story I not only enjoyed immensely, but one I loved.
I literally just read this in one sitting (yes it’s 110 pages but still) 🫶🏻
This book was giving “The Handmaids tale” turned smutty, in a good way. As a whole i enjoyed this book for what it was. There were a few things that annoyed me but for a novella it managed to have spice AND a storyline which i think is hard to find.
If this book was a full 300/400/500 page book i don’t think i would have enjoyed it as i found i was cringing quite a lot, the FMC was described very childlike and the MMC gave me the ick.
I’m all for a possessive man who knows what he wants but the MMC only seemed to care about them being married so that she was officially “his” and when she didn’t seem comfortable he was like “please 🥹🥹🥹” and she said yes so lol. I think also sleeping with a women who didn’t even know what words like “shit” and “fuck” meant also didn’t sit right with me. He also coerced her into saying “i love you” 😳😳 and then admitted he did so in his inner monologue 🤠🤠 at least he’s self aware so slay i guess.
Overall it was an enjoyable read and very quick i just can’t say i loved it 🙈🙈
What a great story! This novella is a quick paced insta-love story that revolves around Deliverance, aka Del, a young woman raised in a sheltered religious cult and Anderson, a man living alone in the mountains with a possessive alpha streak. Being young and naive doesn't stop Del from knowing being forced to marry the cult leader is wrong. With a strong self preservation driving her she escapes into the night after a brutal interaction with her new husband. When all seems lost she is found by her new savior, Anderson. He immediately knows Del is his future and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her. Between Del's sheltered life, lack of understanding of cultural norms and the cult actively pursuing her is there any hope for a future between the two?
For a short novella the characters are developed well and it is easy to connect with them.
For fans of Adelaide's dark mafia novels you still get a little of the darkness and violence, but it's much lighter. There is also another potential developing romance that points to a book 2 in the works!!
Ok, lets get this straight out there - our hero loves in no half measures. If you don’t love insta-love stories, this isn’t for you.
We are introduced to our heroine, Deliverance, as a young woman running from a religious cult, forced into marriage to a man much older than her - these stories are all too familiar in real life, but instead of the tragedy that too often plays out in the media, we are guaranteed a happy ending so I read on.
Anderson takes one look at Deliverance and falls - hard. As I said before, he loves in no half measure and if this seems a tad unrealistic, well - you don’t read these books for realism lol. You read them because you love the idea of love conquering all and enjoy reading about a fairytale come true.
This short and sweet novella is a great read, and gives you the happily ever after you’re craving, with little time to invest to get there.
Quick intense novella that gives you all the feels... I really enjoyed this Novella. I will say it is an insta love but I never mind those with an intense alpha male ( I don’t mind those either) if those are not your cup of tea maybe you should skip.. Whats different about this book is the heroine is running from a religious cult we don’t see that a lot in romance novels and I liked the spin on it. It was done right and the author makes you feel what the heroine is feeling and I was scared with her.. when an author can you make feel like you are in the novel and have the feeling of characters that is a great novel in my opinion.. it also had a really cute epilogue to tie up everything nicely.. I can’t wait for the next in this series there’s more to come. I did receive an Arc for this book.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy. I loved loved this novella... Deliver Me From Evil. The story takes place in the mountains where a young woman... Deliverence aka Del...runs for her life away from the community/cult that she has grown up in.... Del is saved by the alpha hero Anderson. The fall in love at first sight, and the powerful connection between these two is so beautiful. You will love Del and Anderson. Anderson is this very protective and dedicated hero who is trying his best to protect Del. Del is such a beautifully, broken girl who has finally found her safe haven in Anderson. These two broken souls can finally be healed through each other's love. This story is fast paced, well written and will definitely make you want the next book in the series. I highly recommend this read!!.
Deliverance is running away from a religious compound after being forcibly married to the cult leader when Anderson finds her and brings her to his home. Anderson is introduced as a growly loner with little desire for the outside world who quickly turns into a protective, possessive and smitten alpha. Del is determined, and spirited despite the environment in which she was raised. Her fear of being caught, and what harm she could be bringing to Anderson's door was palpable.
Despite the novella length, the story felt complete and the characters were fleshed out. That takes a lot of writing skill, especially when secondary characters are introduced and the groundwork laid for future characters. I loved the book and can't wait for the next one in the series.
I received an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
This was a fantastic novella, far beyond the typical quality of similar short stories. I love a good novella when I'm looking for just a quick, feel-good story, but I often find myself disappointed by the lack of plot. However, this was not the case with Deliver Me from Evil. It truly exceeded my expectations. It had a relatively high degree of character development and intrigue, especially for its length. Anderson was everything you would expect from one of Adelaide's heroes: completely alpha, possessive, and protective. He fell in love with Del instantly and was understanding and supportive from the start.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an instalove, quick story with an alpha hero. Fans of Jessa Kane would definitely love this book.
*I received an ARC of this novella. This is my complete and honest review.*
Fast read, possessive hero, virgin heroine. 12 chapters. A feat really, maybe that’s why the heroine is not well-developed.
Growing up in a cult, Children of Awe, Deliverence exhibited obedience, shyness and submissiveness. Until the leader of the group (50-year old guy) wanted to marry her. Now all feelings of rebelliousness and latent questions rose from her and she ran. This part is kind of hard to believe for me. I mean she was brainwashed since birth and suddenly at one of the supposed “highlights” of her life, she flaked.
Don’t get me wrong. I loved that she flaked, but how I wish the acts of rebellions and doubts would have been painted sooner. Now it seems like a sudden thing.
That’s it. Otherwise usual OTT insta love read. Hero is super aggressive too, won’t even give her choices. 2.75 stars rounded off to 3
Insta-love, Alpha and J/P hero? What more could you want?
"You're safe now"
This fast paced, steamy story is about Deliverance and Anderson. Deliverance is running away from a nightmare and Anderson finds her unconscious near his home and knows without a doubt she is HIS!!! And he will do anything to keep her safe.
My main worry with novella reads are that you never really get to know the characters or the story starts then boom it's done. Well you don't have that problem with Deliver me from Evil. Not only do you get to fall in love with Del and Anderson you get a story that draws you in, keeps you reading and honesty keeps you thinking about what an awesome story you have read even after its done. And wishing for more. Can't wait to read the next one!!!!
Deliverance ran from the cult that had controlled her entire life. She figured she would have to stay on the run to keep them from finding her and dragging her back up the mountain. She never imagined she would find exactly what she needed and wanted on that very same mountain. Anderson found Del worn down and passed out from exhaustion under a tree at the edge of his property. He knew the minute he saw her that he wanted to take care of her. He would protect her no matter who came looking for her. So much excitement packed into such a small book! Anderson is an alpha male that you will fall in love with from the start. Del is too sweet for words. It is amazing watching her come into her own and learning how to become independent.
