Love is Blind

Color me Ruthless … Alexis and her high morality! Trying to prove herself to someone who set her up to begin with and turn her back on the father of her child; a man she “loves” but most of all a man who had really done nothing but take care of her. Granted he kept some secrets but nothing she really needed to know and he was hot and cold BUT he protected her; offered up his life for hers and always came to her. AND he wanted her to head his new publication company. They say that love is what you show and his love for her far outweighs her love for his. She deserves an accidental death 😈. Harry will be fine, he’s always saying dada anyway.

Corrupted Queen was a lot more enjoyable to me than the first book. And I found Gabriel a lot more likeable than he was in the first book. He also seemed to be a lot smarter as well.

I had a problem with Alexis in this one. Mainly that she seems to jump to conclusions, act without thinking and then is shocked when there are repercussions. The fact that there is zero rust between her and Gabriel does play a role in the way she jumps to conclusions though. I also hated that a couple of times, Alexis would say that she was going to make sure Harry hated Gabriel when he got older. It was very toxic.

This was kinda dragging it on, i didnt like the heroine STILL betraying the guy EVEN though she seen how bad his trust issues were and she was still saying he needed to trust her and continued to try and make him be a family even though she was lying and snooping.

UiThe story was written well, I just couldn't deal with this weak woman. She was weak in areas where she should've been strong.
Finally I come to the conclusion, trust doesn't exist in Alexis vocabulary. Her story was more important than her family. Also, how did she think Gabriel would react when she wrote the story. She has now put Harry in more danger. She trusted the wrong people.
Also she drove me crazy with "I should, I shouldn't, maybe I can help him change". Very Indesive. I felt sorry for Harry and Gabriel. I started skipping chapters because I couldn't deal with Alexis any longer. I wish I could've given this book a highter rating, but I didn't like Alexis character.

Not worth the time

1/3 of the way through and couldn't finish. The heroine is entitled, ungrateful, deeply disrespectful, unlikable, manipulative, careless about berating her child's father in front of her kid, grating, and the most inept investigative reporter I've ever seen.
Did I mention disloyal to the h? Only him though, she readily forgive her boss who almost got killed in book 1! And the scene where she deliberately took her kid the drug users because she was bored and wanted to "investigate" the drug use in the city? Mother of the Year!

Plot 3/5 (improving- but still infuriating)
Spicy 3/5
Overall getting better, wish some things were a bit different like everything about the Clara character and most of Alexis’s choices.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I hate to do it, but...

This was a DNF at 57% for me, and getting to that 57% was painful. To be fair, I wasn’t a fan of the first book, but I thought maybe the series would get better. It did not.

The characters are awful and shallow. Zero dimension or interesting aspects to them. Alexis is obnoxious, irresponsible, and overall irritating. Gabriel is a GIANT man-baby, emotionally unintelligent, emotionally unavailable, an oddly crappy “mob” boss, and an all-around jerk. I’m halfway through the series and I’ve seen zero redeeming qualities in either of them.

The chemistry is tepid, at best. Alexis is a doormat. Gabriel treats her abominably from day one, and she still trembles in his arms with quaking lust whenever he snarls at her. It’s...really lame. I like dark romances. This wasn’t one. It was just 2 very unbelievable characters being annoying through every page, repeating the exact same mistakes over and over, for hundreds of pages.

Corrupted Queen – A Dark Mafia Romance (Belluci Mafia Book 2) by Nicole Fox

Corrupted Queen starts right off with Alexis hiding from Gabriel. As she is want to do, Alexis tends to run first and think later, so with Gabriel recuperating from being shot during the rescue he now has men out looking for them.

Not only has Gabriel had to deal with being shot and Alexis and Harry disappearing he had to come to terms with the fact that his closest advisor was the traitor.

Nicole Fox can take a character and open them up so that you see them, as they could be, who they want to be but can’t be, especially in her mafia stories. Gabriel is who he is because of his father and we learn so much more about him growing up in this book. We also learn why he trusts few.

I want to say that Alexis has grown as a character, in some ways she has but in other ways, I’m not sure if she has really learned anything at all about Gabriel during the time they were together before the disappearance. I had to wonder why she didn’t understand why he felt he couldn’t trust her. Heavens, I didn’t trust her.

Things start to get crazier with the Irish, Gabriel finally tells Alexis some of the truths he hid in regards to her father and the sexual tension between these two reaches new heights.

There was so much emotion is this book, Harry and Gabriel have a beautiful father/son relationship now, Alexis is working on a story and walks a fine line while researching it, and there is a death of a character, that death throws Gabriel for a loop and of course the explosion is coming and Alexis has played right into the hand of a hidden opponent who has promised to take Gabriel down.

Thank goodness it’s only a few days until book 3 arrives, but I have to say, I’m on Gabriel’s side right now, Alexis tends to jump into the fire without thinking through the consequences. Which I hoped she would have learned with her first lesson, when she and Harry were kidnapped.

I tried to write reviews when I’m a little less mad, but what the .. was that

Alexa, Alexa, what the hell is wrong with you? You knew this was gonna break your relationship up you wanted him to trust you. You want a relationship with him, but you don’t work for it.
Why don’t you trust him? Why don’t you say you’re writing report on this? Why don’t you do that huh?

No, you had to be the Miss little reporter that’s not even a good reporter.

In the beginning of this book where she was like, “I could be in Alabama right now being with a family that I haven’t seen they would greet with open arms. instead of this moldy motel” and I’m like dude go leave. What the hell is wrong with you.

A good reporter would know to leave the freaking country if their ex-boyfriend who is a mobster is hunting them down like seriously bro oh, “I wanna stay in New York because that’s where my work is.” Well if you’re living out of motel rooms and probably getting your kids sick with all that germs they’re ingesting.

Not to mention, walking up with your baby to a druggy who seems to be out of it are you fucking stupid?

Now the other half of the duo honestly the first book Gabriel was a little less likable. In this book, he looks like a saint is totally reasonable not to trust her. And he’s not that good to start with like seriously I don’t know how I’m gonna finish the series but like I’m so freaking pissed at everyone here and they killed my favorite character! Also, I hate the hot and cold thing hate absolute despise it. He’s not even treating her nice he’s just treating her honestly not trusting her makes a lot of sense. He says she’s his breath of fresh air, but doesn’t talk to her at all just like being around her. when she’s sleeping. Then he treats her like it’s the best thing in the world. I also hated that he didn’t tell her when they were having interviews with her family like what if she doesn’t want her kid out there, especially knowing that you’re a mobster and it could just cause the target on their back but honestly, she wouldn’t have thought of that because she’s not that smart as it even though she’s reporter.

After that, I lost so much interest, but I still manage to finish the story, but I’m still pissed about it.

I might finish the series I might not but I’m just so upset. I’m gonna give my a few weeks to cool off before I continue if I continue. Like communication would’ve been so nice also basic respect and decency.

This is the continuation of the Gabriel and Alexis's story. But their mistrust of each other is still very prevalent and gives the story it's edgy drama suspense. The intense attraction between them give the perfect buildup to this amazing story. I can't wait to read the finale of this trilogy and I volunteered to review this arc.

The second in the series was just as fast a read as the first one.

It lives up to (and I think exceeds) the first. I liked the deepening of the plots from the first book, and the relationship between the main characters twanged my heartstrings in the right places... If only they could talk to each other and grow up just a bit... But that's why they're book characters!

Onto the third!

It's review time 🎧
Warning ⚠️: 2nd book in a trilogy, not a standalone, cliffhanger, mafia boss, a child.

Narrator score🎧 ; both narrator's were absolutely amazing. The voices of both of them were very good.

Level of steam🔥: the book was as hot as the first one, the same as in the first book was here, they relied on sex and no communication.. so yeah you had a lot of sex.

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: well... I don't think the book is sad.. I think the author made the female character annoying af... and I'll explain.

The book itself📖: well... I waited for this book. I truly did. I can say i have my issues with it. I tried to understand the mc but she just made me mad!!!
And she did things in the worst way possible. I can't wait for the last book to see what would happen to her

This is the second book in this mafia read and I do recommend reading them in order. Alexis has taken her young son and run from Gabriel and she learns he killed her father. It’s seems all of the characters have their own agenda in this read except of course for the baby. Will the truth be revealed in book? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. Entertaining read.

“My life is in New York. My passion for journalism will not be sated by articles on crop yields. The answer to my conundrum is out there, I just haven’t found it yet.
Part of me wonders if I’m still hanging onto my old life because I am torn by my feelings for Gabriel.”

“It was moments like those where I nearly fell in love with her, fool that I was. I thought she was falling in love with me, too, but looking back, I wonder if any of my memories of her affection were genuine, or if it was all a ploy to get behind my defenses.”

“I shudder to think how many other occasions she manipulated my emotions. I rescued her from Andrew Walsh, and the second she had the opportunity, she took my son and ran”

“That’s the moment I realize the ugly truth.
Gabriel is at the root of this epidemic. People are dying every day because of his greed and lack of morality”

“I go to the front door and press my ear against it, listening for activity, but hear nothing. I check the peephole and, satisfied that the coast is clear, ease the door open. Only once I stick my head out do I notice two men standing with their backs pressed to the wall. The one closest, who I immediately recognize as Gio, the guard I escaped from over a month ago, smiles and lurches forward.”

“I want to believe that Gabriel wouldn’t be so cruel. During my time with him he could be very sweet and caring, but he also killed my father and has been importing purple heroin into the city, so I wouldn’t put it past him.”

“I hike a couple steps backward. “Let us go. You can’t keep us here.”
Gabriel’s mouth flattens. “I think you know that I can keep you here,” he says. “However, I will let you leave, but there is something we need to discuss first.”

“When he straightens, the smile drops from his features and he turns to Gio with cold eyes. “Take Alexis to her room and detain her there.”

“Seeing it makes me realize that Gabriel’s love for Harry is genuine. It’s not a trick or a manipulation.
But what about me?”

“The last time I was in the mansion, I was looking for a story. I have found that story in the purple heroin crisis, and I owe a duty to myself and to the city to use my time here as an opportunity to learn everything I can about how Gabriel fits into it.
So that’s what I’ll do.
What I must not do? Let myself fall for him. Again.”

“I slide out of bed and pad toward the nursery, where I find Harry sleeping like a log. He hasn’t slept this soundly in weeks, even after we ditched the lumpy hotel mattresses for Debbie’s luxury apartment. That tells me everything I need to know—this is home to Harry. He’s comfortable here”

“Gabriel has made a massive mistake in bringing me here and an even bigger one in allowing me free rein. He doesn’t know I’m investigating the purple heroin crisis. I want to cackle with laughter, but considering that kind of bizarre behavior is sure to be reported to my keeper, I just indulge in a cat-like smile as I step under the spray of hot water.
I am going to make Gabriel rue the day he ever thought he could control me.”

“I choose to believe Gabriel then everything I know about my life is a lie. My mother’s death could have been avoided. My father was just as much of a criminal as the ones he put behind bars. Not only that, but I named my son after a wicked man. The sort of man who smiles as he tortures a kid half his age and murders his loving wife of twenty years.”

“Even as the evidence lines up in a neat row before me, I don’t want to believe it. My gut tells me something isn’t right. But how much can I trust my gut when it’s compromised by my apparent residual feelings for Gabriel? I don’t want to believe the Italian Mafia are involved in the purple heroin trade because I don’t want to believe that the man who can look at my son with such love and adoration would be capable of an enterprise so vile.”

“Gabriel continues smoothly. “You are obviously still a target for those loyal to the dead Walsh, which means that Harry is too. Neither of you are to leave this estate without me, or at least four guards. And you may only leave for trips I deem essential.”
“No!” I cry, jumping to my feet. “I’m not doing that again! All I’ve done for months now is hide and run. I want my life back.”

“we never discussed the kind of terminology we would use to describe our relationship, but in every way that counted, I was his, and he was mine.
But that was before I knew the truth about my dad’s death. Before the running and the hiding and the purple heroin. It’s too late to go back to that now.”

“Dread sinks low into my gut.
The contents reflect purple splinters of light back into the room. Finally, without a shadow of a doubt, I have evidence that Gabriel is running the distribution of purple heroin in the city. There are hundreds of small bags inside the box, like taster kits, and I expect every box in here is exactly the same. Considering a small amount of this stuff can kill a human being, there is enough purple heroin in here to kill hundreds, maybe thousands.”

“Lust has been a constant for us, but I forgot the way it felt when he looked at me with adoration in his eyes. And now I yearn to see it again, if only for the length of an interview. It’s pathetic, but I reckon I’ll do as many interviews as he wants if he keeps looking at me like that while we do them.”

“I deserve this castigation, but it doesn’t make it any easier to swallow. I don’t know whether I’m more frustrated with myself for telling Debbie I had everything in the first place or recanting now.
Truth is, I could write the article now. The most evidence I have, however, is on Gabriel. There’s no way for me to write this article without implicating him, and while that was always going to happen, now I’m wondering if there’s another way.”

“The letter is from Gabriel’s bank, confirming the transfer of ten million dollars into a trust fund for Harry.
“No matter what happens, I just want you both to be happy,” he says. His expression flickers, and for the first time, I realize that his odd behavior over the last couple of weeks might not have as much to do with me as I thought. He looks troubled.”

“That’s it—Patrick Walsh is dead. The Irish are finished. I do not confuse this for anything other than a brief victory, as my fight is far from over, but it’s a victory nonetheless. As always, it feels good to come out on top”

“I realize in that moment that as much as I try to tell myself that Alexis and Harry can be a part of this life, I’m wrong. I am asking too much of them. I am pushing them too far”

“more importantly I’m going to put some distance between us because right now I don’t deserve to take comfort in their presence. I am a danger to my own family and something needs to change.”

“Alexis rubs my back and presses her lips to my head. If I have never felt so much pain before, I have also never felt comfort like this either. Her warmth surrounds me. Encases me like a cocoon.
I do not deserve this woman, but I can never let her go.”

“He chuckles. “I’ll never forget the day he met Corie,” he says. “She transferred to our school halfway through senior year, and he was smitten with her immediately. He’d seemed smitten with Siobhan too, which is what I reminded him when he told me he’d just met his future wife. Do you know what he told me?”

“He said, ‘She’s the yin to my yang, Gabe. Siobhan is heat and excitement, but Corie is all that and more. She is true, perfect balance.’”

“And Alexis, I suspect that you’re the yin to my yang.” His brow furrows. “I need you”

“My feelings for him, I now realize, are all too real. As is the compulsion to drop this investigation and be with him the way I want. He’s a deadly creature, a beast.
But can I tame him?”

“I have stumbled upon something important, and it’s my duty to the city and to the dead and to the dying to share my knowledge. I might be able to help stop the trade of purple heroin in its tracks. I could save lives.
But in doing so, I will lose the man that I love.”

“Alexis’ article is spread across my desk. It takes up two full pages of the newspaper, as well as the teaser on the front page. Impressive. I always knew she was talented, that the world was just waiting to open up for her. And here it is—the fruit of Alexis’ labor and my inevitable downfall.
I wish I could find it in me to be surprised at the scope of her betrayal. Perhaps I’m in shock”

“It is of little consolation that nothing the Cartel does to me will hurt as much as Alexis’ betrayal.
She was another Felicity Huffman in disguise and I fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. I let her in. I trusted her. She cracked that trust over her knee like a dry branch and I taped it up and gave it back to her.
Fool me twice, shame on me”

“It only takes an hour before two policemen burst into my office, brandishing a warrant for my arrest. If they were coming to arrest Gabriel Belluci, don of the Italian Mafia, they would have come with more muscle. As it is, they have come to arrest Gabriel Belluci, son of Fabrizio Belluci.
Murderer of Fabrizio Belluci”

“I wonder, as my shaking hand reaches for the stick, if I could have done things differently. If there was a way to save the city and Clara and everyone else who couldn’t save themselves, without kicking Gabriel to the wolves. Too late now, I guess. I did my best. Now I need to pay the piper.
I close my eyes, then pop one open and stare at the pregnancy test as though it might snap at me. Two red lines. I know what that means. I’ve done this song and dance before.”

“Silvano clears his throat. “I have orders,” he says. “From Gabriel”
“You are to be ejected from the premises,” Silvano continues.”
“You must leave Harry here.”
“I want to speak to Gabriel,” I snap.
Silvano shakes his head. “He doesn’t want to speak to you.”
“Well maybe he will when he finds out I’m pregnant!”

“So, you can leave,” he says. “You and Harry will be set up in an apartment in the city and will be kept under surveillance.”
Relief floods my bones, but the elation is short-lived.
“Gabriel wants nothing to do with you,” Silvano continues. “A word to the wise, I wouldn’t try to contact him or push him in any way. He is done with you.”

“They’re going to take the city,” Miguel tells me. “What Andrew Walsh did will be nothing compared to the kind of hell you are about to face. They will destroy you”

This series begins with two deeply flawed people who are thrown together after a one night stand. Two people whose sexual chemistry is jaw dropping, but their ability to function outside of the bedroom and become a couple is challenged throughout book one and two.

The second book focuses on Gabriel and Alexis' fragile relationship. Both have their own agenda's in this book which results in a complete severing of their relationship by the book's end. The only thing that keeps Alexis and Harry together is the fact that she is again pregnant with Gabriel's child. Otherwise, Gabriel considered her betrayal reason to send her away and keep Harry. He ends ups putting her in an apartment with Harry with security but severs ties with her. While Gabriel is trying to deal with the Irish, the Cartel and the purple heroine issue, Alexis is hell bent on writing her story exposing the purple heroine players which includes Gabriel. He is trying to find a way out of the situation with the cartel, but unbeknownst to Alexis it appears he is one of the players.

This book focuses on Gabriel and Alexis's complete dysfunction as a couple; lying to one another, withholding the truth, master manipulation of the other person for their own personal needs and refusing to communicate. Every time they attempt to communicate and every time that communication goes south they engage in hate sex. That gets old pretty fast as well as the secrets they hide from one another. Trust and confiding in each other seems an unlikely prospect for these two characters.

Their are moments and times in this book that they appear they are on the right track to actually have a loving relationship only to have one of them destroy it by their actions of lack of action.

It's hard at this point to think they will make it through this together and end up as a family and that Gabriel will actually be able to say "I love you". They both had history and baggage which started in book one. The water under the bridge by the end of book 2 feels like a raging river instead of a slow flowing stream. Perhaps book 3 will resurrect a relationship possibility for these two characters.

DNF I usually don't write comments on books that I don't finish, but I have to say this: Alexis is the dumbest main character I have ever read about in my life. She repeatedly says how much she loves her child and how much she's afraid that Gabe is going to take her kid away from her, then does everything in her power to make Gabe want to take her kid away from her! I'm not saying it's right, and I'm not saying he's perfect, but why would you bend over backward and take orders from someone who set you up regardless of her reasoning? Gabe already told you he wants you to be the lead editor in his new publication company if you just sit there and do what he's asking you to do, which is not anything crazy by the way, in a couple of months you will literally be your own boss in your own publication company!!

She talks about how she wishes Gabe would look at her lovingly, but still does everything risk that relationship. You're breaking into different rooms uncovering "secrets" for what?? You've publicly came out and said Gabe is the father of your child. Why would you try to bring him down with some big scoop article?? That's only going to make you look bad he literally offered you a job, and you are risking being in contact with your child to get a story out. Talking about "what about the kids of those addicts?" GIRL what about YOUR kid? Please shut up.

The Queen oversteps and is thrown from her throne

Corrupted Queen is the second book in the Belluci Mafia series. This is a continuation in the story of Gabriel and Alexis. The story picks up from the cliffhanger ending in Corrupted Angel. Be warned that this book ends in a cliffhanger also, so be prepared to read the third book in the series.
The writing is good and the story-line is interesting but for me Alexis is just too stupid, even though she is supposed to be intelligent. At this point I just cannot connect with her character and her actions, even when you put things into the broader scope. Gabriel is still not defined enough for me yet so I cannot get a good understanding on his actions, other than he is not quite the Alpha I would expect from a Mafia Boss.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Corrupted Queen: A Mafia Romance (Book Two of the Belluci Mafia Trilogy)

Author : Nicole Fox

THIS BOOK SHOULD HAVE A RATING OF SO MUCH MORE THAN 5 STARS !! LOVED IT !!!

I am new to this author’s work and feel like I hit the jackpot by being given the opportunity to read an ARC of both Corrupt Angel ( Book 1 ) and Corrupted Queen ( Book 2 ) within a week of each other - my very own double dose of Nicole Fox’s amazing work ! I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own and have not been influenced in any way.

This book is not a standalone and does end in a cliffhanger - highly recommend reading Book One Corrupt Angel !! I will say this series is one of the best I have read in 2020 and can’t wait for the conclusion in Book 3 !

Corrupted Queen begins with Alexis and her son Harry on the run after she overhears a private conversation suggesting that Gabriel had something more to do with her father’s death. This book was like being on an emotional roller coaster and yet you are definitely going to want to strap in for the very bumpy & turbulent ride.

In this book you are going to question has Alexis been corrupted because of her relationship with Gabriel? After her return to the mansion neither trusts each other - however their attraction to each other is still there .... Gabriel has them playing happy family for the press but Alexis is hurt by his shutting her out and this has her questioning how she can possibly feel love for him when he calls into question everything she seems to despise ... yet she still craves his touch - the occasional gentleness he throws her way and can’t question the love he has for his son.

Alexis priority is her son Harry and when she is threatened by having him taken away - she doesn’t think her heart can take more more heartbreak from Gabriel. I don’t want to believe Gabriel can be this cold and yet it’s almost as if his ruthlessness is going to be cranked up several MORE notches heading into Book 3 ...

I could not put this book down - read it in 24 hrs ( doing not much else AGAIN other than reading ) !!

If you love mafia / romance - Nicole Fox is the author for you !!

Highly recommend this book , series - The Belluci Mafia Trilogy - and author !!!

The continuing story of Alexis and Daemon, filled with action and adventure
Alexis has finally been found and she is being returned to the clutches of her mafia boyfriend and father of her young son Harry and Daemon is not at all impressed with the treachery he believes she carried out when she had run from him.
Daemon has always known that Alexis was an excellent reporter and is not afraid to put herself out there to find worthwhile story and then to put it out in the public domain and at the moment she is very focused on discovering who it is that has been procuring and selling the drug to addicts.
As Alexis and Harry are building a family with Daemon and it is obvious that he is a good father and Harry loves his Dad and Alexis wants to ensure he has a safe and happy, loving homelife with parents that love him, something that both she Daemon have never known.
As the story continues to develop you cannot help but be drawn into the storyline and the characters are simply wonderful and as with all of Nicole Fox’s books once you begin reading it is simply impossible to put this book down once you start reading.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series, the story has been left with a wonderful opening for Alexis and Harry as they are still under Daemon’s control.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

I really did not like this book. I would have DNFed it if I didn't have to read it for work. I also would have given it 1 star instead of 2, but I didn't read the first book and I'm hoping the first book gave the information needed to care about these characters.

These characters were so horrible. Gabriel was flat and so hot and cold it was annoying. He's talking about how he can't trust her one second then buying her a house the next. I can't with the whip lash.

I absolutely hated Alexis. This part has some spoilers. I hated her character so much. She loves Gabriel and wants to be a family, but plots to destroy him behind his back? Her journaling career is more important than her family? At one point she even says, "I want my cake, and I want to eat it too."

She also jumps right off a cliff into her own conclusions and goes with it. She's a "strong willed" journalist, but she doesn't once question Gabriel. She doesn't even give him a chance to explain his involvement. Then when she suspects she might be pregnant, she goes through with the article, essentially putting herself in danger and ruining any chance they will ever be a family. What actually are her priorities?

The plot wasn't very good either. The mob boss stuff was boring and the romance was nonexistent. It didn't seem to have a linear story, it was just all over the place. I really just didn't like this book and I couldn't imagine reading the next one.
