In love with one twin, bonded by fire to the other. Welcome back to Arcturus Academy.
I survived my first semester, but it's not getting easier. I adore Gage, so why do I share a mage-bond with Ryan, a bully who keeps trying to blackmail me and might get both of us killed? He's like a hydra. Whenever I diffuse one plot, another springs up in its place. How long can this go on before he gets what he wants?

4.0💫 definitely enjoyed this more than the first book and I am excited if Ryan will be the main love interest or if it will stay Gage. I do hope the good guy finishes last this time.
I do really love this world building YA series. I feel like the main 'bad guy' is more going to be morally gray rather than outright evil moving forward.
Twists and turns all through this gave me the feeling of being kept off balance which in a fantasy novel is what i like to be.
I enjoy the fmc but im not 100% on the current love interest so we shall see what happens there. All in all a good second instalment and the narrator once again did a stella job.
4 star YA fantasy read mcs share a couple of kisses, this is as far as we get in this novel.
This is a fantastic follow up to book one! Once again I found myself for the edge of my seat as I became engrossed in the amazing storyline! There’s so much going on, there’s intrigue, manipulation, suspense, a non stop ride of thrills and excitement and the twists and turns I did not see coming! Love the characters especially Saxony and the twins and I loved the world this author has created!
Saxony and her story was one of my favorites, so to get more is simply amazing! To get that more in such a great way is even more of a treat. I highly recommend every book in this series!
3.5 stars Much more enjoyable than Book 1, I found the characters less obnoxious, the plot intriguing and genuinely wanted to finish the book. It's a lot more fast-paced with better writing. Very intrigued to learn more about fire mages losing the power and the brief mention of her friends and Petra was surprising.
SYNOPSIS (2 out of 5 Book Series): FC is a fire mage which means she can produce and control fire. However she is a “burned” which means her fire powers are stronger and more superior to unturned fire mages. She attends an academy to learn how to control and use her fire power. The MC is a twin and the FC is in love with one and hates the other who is pretty evil. The series covers her attendance at the fire academy, learning her different skills and how the evil twin tries to constantly get her to make him a “Burned”.
I gave up after book 2 and was skimming towards the end of book 2. These books are well written in terms of grammar and well edited. Unfortunately that is all I can say. I found the books incredibly boring. The author goes on and on about all the different skills the FC learns and there is barely any drama in Book 1 until the epilogue and whilst Book 2 has a bit more it is again at the end and limited. The strange thing is that despite how much detail the author gives on all the different skills the FC learns you actually get barely any backstory about the FC or how she became a Burned. No idea what her home life is like or what happened when she became a fire mage, details about her high school life or how she met the MC. Same with the MC, limited information or substance.
The MC is Gage, the good twin. I had thought that maybe the story would lead to the FC going for the bad twin but it turns out he really is just a nasty piece of work. It’s unclear why or if he has any redeeming qualities as there is limited substance to him just nasty actions. The MC is described as “nice” and “good” and “keeps his room neat and tidy”. That just about sums him up. He is unbelievably vanilla and boring and again, limited actual information about him or the FC’s relationship with him or how they even really become a couple.
On the whole a strange series with no substance. A shame because it is the first time in a long time that I have read a book that has been decently edited!!
I enjoyed all of the characters and am very interested in where the story is going. There were definitely a lot of twists and turns keeping you engaged. I definitely viewed Ryan differently in this book. He is so persistent, I almost feel sorry for him.. However, that didn’t last long, because the author did a great job making you hate him. I felt so bad for Saxony as she stuffed to save a life. That scene is well written and tears at your emotions. I felt so sorry for Gage, I like Saxony, can't see why he protects his brother so much regardless of his actions. The story hints at something going on with Basil and I definitely want to see how that unfolds. So much is going you have to read this book. All of the action and other plot points create a well developed world drawing you into the story. I highly recommend you read it.
A FLESH SIZZIILLING EXPERIENCE! Do you love fireworks? The way Ms Knorr describes one fire mage’s ability to put on a show was absolutely mesmerizing. Only this show was more personal and private. But stunning non the less. As we follow Saxony throughout the second book of this series, we are shown just how far one mage is willing to go to become Burned. His perfect manipulation of Saxony to save him in the end even though she has turned him down time and time again, only shows how much he is determined to risk, even his own life, to hold the power he will gain once he is finally Burned. I only wonder what he is up to next as the third and final book of this series comes to light (pun intended).
In this segment of the series, Ryan tries unsuccessfully to blackmail Saxony into helping him through a burning. When he threatens to out her as burned, Saxony attempts to deflate his threat by telling the headmaster. The headmaster decides to tell the whole school, effectively stripping the weapon from Ryan. Ryan then attempts to use April to force Saxony to comply. Then suddenly April looses hey fire. This is completely unheard of in the Magi world. April is thrilled though.... Ryan is so determined though, he sets Saxony up in a situation that forces her to save him from burning. The larger plot advances nicely in several areas. I'm interested to figure out what happened to April's fire, the relic, and several other things as well!
This book takes off with excitement and incredulity right from the start. The ups and downs Saxony's existence at the academy is often painfully reminiscent of my own high school journey. The clash between Saxony and Ryan continues to its crescendo in a dank basement. The aftermath changes everything for Ryan, and perhaps the academy. This book was engrossing, extremely difficult to put down. I highly recommend it to all young adult fantasy fans, whether the fan is a young adult themself or an octogenarian such as myself! There are many twists and turns and outright spin outs along the way for Saxony, Ryan and April along the way , how they, and the rest of the academy handle these events is a gripping tale indeed, not to be missed. Enjoy!
This book was an amazing surprise coming out two weeks after the first one - which is just as well, because I almost screamed with the past cliffhanger! In this book we got to see how Saxony has handled the blackmail from her crush's twin brother - and while that sentence sounds cliche now that I read it, the book is far from one. Saxony makes some really unexpected choices. And in the end, the blackmailer is a genius. A psychopath, but a genius nonetheless. The author is incredibly creative and her writing style is awesome - the characters are wonderfully developed and the plot has twists and turns you will NOT see coming. Luckily, this cliffhanger is easier to bear. I'm going to wait patiently until the middle of December to see just how much more of a psychopath that dude gets and how Saxony helps herself from erasing him off the front of the planet. (She wouldn't, she's a nice girl. But that dude... he deserves it!).
Cool Magic, neat mythology, nicely done romance in the making, unexpected twists and neat adventure. Add in a perfect heroine in Saxony (and yes, Ryan and Gage are perfectly crafted too). The result is that A.L. Knorr has done it again and produced yet another fabulous Young Adult fantasy tale in Fire Trap (Arcturus Academy, Book 2). If you like book 1 in this series you’ll love book 2. If you’re new you’ll still enjoy it, but you’ll miss out something great if you don’t treat yourself by reading book 1 before this one. Whether or not you do, it’s still easy to highly recommend this book.
Fire Trap (Arcturus Academy, #2), my twenty-eighth read from author A.L. Knorr. WOW! Extremely well written, the characters, even the minor ones, are well developed with an attention-grabbing storyline. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make the reader get invested in the characters and thereby the story. I’ll be reading more from this author and have to wait for the publication of FIRE GAMES, (Arcturus Academy, Book 3)! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
An adventurous over the top exciting story that continues with book 3. Saxony is a fire mage that's been Burned and in a school for mages. In her last year of high school and learning how to use her fire, keeps her very busy plus having a boy friend Gage, who is a twin helps . Gage's brother, Ryan was always jealous of Saxony being a Burned and wanted her to help him get that status and was like a thorn in her side, Ryan wanted Saxony to be his girlfriend and was like the evil twin. Can't wait to read the next book!
Enjoy catching up with Saxony. She did not do quite so much training in this book. There was a lot more intrigue and new friends. I liked how she got to know more of her teachers and seemed as if they respected her a lot . Was sad as to how her being Burned got outed. Some of the play into the circle of her girlfriends from home was lost, would have loved to have more than a paragraph on them. That is such a wonderful mix we need to keep them with each of the girls. Which is why I have it 4stars
Another great read. This is the second in the series. We already know and love Saxony and Gage. Ryan is the hard one to love. He has blackmailed Saxony in the past and he has no qualms about doing it again. He just wants to have his way. We see glimpses of the good guy he could be. There are moments when I think Saxony will end up with Ryan instead of the sweet and kind Gage. Not that Saxony should be with the bad boy. But there is something captivating to Ryan. However, I am afraid for who Ryan will become. The next book should give us more clues. Can’t wait for it.
Parents: Ideal for 16+ readers Language: PG-13 Violence: PG-13 Sexual content: PG13 - making out
This is a solid continuation of the first book. Full of twists and character growth. Saxony has more than her fair share of obstacles not to mention her personal life always taking a hit. I really enjoyed the twists in this chapter of Saxony’s story. Book three here I come!
Narrator had great differentiations and was fun to listen to.
—I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Saxxony's story continues as she learns how to control her fire mage abilities and to control her strength as one of the burned a ritual forced upon her that kills 98% of those who attempt it. But those they do survive have heightened abilities. Saxxony must navigate this while finishing her Senior year of high school in a mage school for non humans. Saxxony overall is doing well she is making friends excelling in her studies and has a boyfriend Sadie he has an evil twin who has been targeting Saxxony with blackmail and harassment. We see this play out on an interesting world. Not a bad read.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible)
A new semester starts, but the threat that Ryan posed at the end of the last year becomes reality. Saxony takes the logical solution, and the headmaster follows suit. This does not end the blackmail attacks, but Saxony becomes more resourceful in negating the threats. However, when you have one so determined to get his way as Ryan, then the next step should not have been a surprise.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This sequence grasps the reader from the beginning and what a joy is to navigate through it. A.L. is a master of building the right turnovers as well as creating much more challenges to her characters. Saxony is a mirror of every “human” though being a supernatural, having flaws and working on them as any of us, her dilemmas are ours. Her friends and nemesis are amazing. All of this only makes us wish the third-act to be available “yesterday”.
A real page turner. I love this book. As always, Abby-Lynn's prose is beautifully descriptive, while at the same time it manages to keep the plot moving, so the reader is never bogged down with too many details or bored. It's just right! How does she do it? Such skill. I am keen to see her expand upon several newly introduced elements to the story, e.g., the relic's properties and how they pertain only to the 'burned', the loss of mages' fire, etc. Bring on the next installment!
I highly recommend this series. I might have to go back and start from her Frist series I did read Born of Fire and this series is a spin off from there. I didn't finish the other books just because I couldn't wait to see what happenes with Saxony and Gage. I am not really a fan of Academy series but this one is good. Now I can't wait to see what happens with Ryan, Gages win.
Fire Trap : A Young Adult Fantasy (Arcturus Academy Book 2)
OMG 😱 what has Ryan done ??? This book had so much action, you never knew what would happen…. Fire magi loses their fire?!?! What will happen next will blow your mind….. this boom series is definitely an exciting page turner that will keep you from putting the book down. Can’t wait to start the next book. I love this series 📖📚📖📚 definitely recommend this book 📖.. Now onto book 3i stead of falling asleep 😴 💤..
This one picks up a few months after the end of book 1, with the next school year.
It proved to be a good progression, maintaining the same air of ‘high-school style’ drama, mystery and fire magic. This one also packs a bit of action—very ‘Harry Potter’ ish in set-up style, YA readers should enjoy this installment.

This is really starting to be a great series. Book 2 didn't disappoint. So many great characters. I really like the headmaster Bassel, he is an interesting character. He is strict but also compassionate. He tries to teach the mages what they need to know and steer them in the right direction but not all the students listen to his advice. In this one Ryan is still up to his triscks. He is blackmailing Saxony. He wants her to bring him through a burning and he is using Saxony's friend April to get her to comply. But April has never wanted to be a mage so when her fire goes out she is thrilled. Ryan is furious when he looses his hold over Saxony so he will have to find another way to get what he wants. Meanwhile his twin Gage is blind to his brothers atrocities. Saxony has to get Gage to see he is traveling down the wrong path. I am really loving this series. Another new author for my favorites list.
Riveting! I finished this book like I was sprinting a marathon! Saxony can finally be free to be herself, but her boyfriend's evil twin still pursues her relentlessly to fulfil his psychotic fantasy. And all while trying to graduate high school. Another fabulous elemental story by A.L. Knorr. Loved it!
This series started intense and continues the same way! While the beginning was a little slow, it was a good look at how the world of the fire mages worked and quickly picks up, leaving me yearning for the next one.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the publisher, but the opinions are my own.
The mental picture of Saxony, matches the book cover version quite well. She could be a star in any format, the girls of Saltwick, are just amazing when do they get together again? Oh well more to read for now. Great job MS Knoor, what an imagination, stoke the fires. 😅😋😀
As Saxony begins the next semester still contending with Ryan and mentoring other students, secrets are revealed and everything is turned upside down. A good cliffhanger of an ending!
