You put a pig in a dress, but that doesn’t make it pretty.
Join or die. Stay or die.
No choice at all.
Archie Walker was on death row when the aliens showed up. The smart thing would be to let all the prisoners go, but some lightbulb in the head shed decided to keep them locked up.
Until Sgt. Hammer showed up with a deal.
A one way mission to fight the invaders.
No way to survive, but he can spend his last days free. Better than dying in a cage.
First, they have to learn to get along. Then decide if the society that locked them away deserves to be saved.
And maybe, just maybe find a chance to walk away from it all.
Fans of military sci fi are gonna love SNAFU because in a world where nothing is normal anymore, it’s gonna t
Ok. So there were a few typos here and there but they in no way, for me, detracted from the story. I would also suggest cleaning up the dialogue a bit just so the reader always knows who is talking. That said, I enjoyed the characters and premise of the story, even though I don’t typically like reading military books, I just wish it was longer. Looking forward to the next installment.
Lowry here writes violent sci-fi space invasion warrior literature. This series is better edited than most of his freebie series I’ve read previously.
A British Man of War in harbour in need of sailors first emptied the jails and then sent press gangs into the streets and emptied the dockside pubs. “Recruits” often regained consciousness at sea. Little is seems has changed except here the ships are in the vacuum of space and the recruits dropped into a hot zones on Mars. Weber explains that he was tazered as one of street gang raping a lone gal. He regained consciousness about to be parachute dropped into a hot zone, their weapons dropped after them. The cons fought one another as the aliens picked them off. As always the poor and uneducated became cannon fodder while the sons of wealth sat home or bought commissions.
Bodies turn into misty clouds of red or get cut in half. The violence here is graphic. As in jungle warfare in the past the environment here is just another enemy.
This one is Action/Adventure Sci-Fi Alien Invasion. Archie Walker is commandeered to lead a suicide mission.
This was once again a miss for me. Sounded good in Amazon book description, but in reality not so much. The story read almost like a short story for a series of books where I missed the complete series and therefore did not have any reference point to what is going on in the story line or with the characters or with anything else.
This short story was in the future from the other short story and had errors throughout. The plot was predictable and did not develop the characters well. The plot was spotty in places and did not give much details to fill in information about the characters or why they were chosen, other than they get to die because of mistakes they make while in the military.
The concept appealed to me but there was no delivery. What appeared to be the main character, Archie, was not well defined and somewhat unappealing. The world building was non existent and the plot was weak. It would take a lot to make anything of this.
The situation is drastic, aliens have invaded, the military is stumped. So, heroes are selected to carry out a suicide mission. But these heroes you wouldn't take home to mother.
Same invasion, new location, different characters... only these are one-dimensional. The writing is slightly above average but the plot is a bit shopworn
Excellent characters. Fun plot. The story really moves and you have to run to keep up! Great escape from the real world! Can't wait to start the next one!
good story ,but this was way short of what i expected,my fault i usually look at how many pages are in book.i would have paid more for the full story.it was good ,well edited but just an appetizer
