Cosmic SWAT #2

Alien Cop's Target

Rate this book
Ava

That crazy television show Naked and Afraid? It's a cakewalk compared to the sick game my alien abductors have planned for me--one that humans apparently never survive.

I spent so much time hiking after my mom and sister disappeared from Earth that I became a wilderness survival expert. I know how to keep myself alive in any situation… except on this hostile planet, everything, even the water, is trying to eat me.

My captors gave me a coach to help me prepare. He’s huge, scary, and sexy as hell. Turns out he’s an undercover alien cop with a mission. One that includes his crazy idea that I’m the key to solving a crime…that involves my missing family.

Khryz

My human target doesn’t know what’s coming for her, but I do.

As an elite Cosmic SWAT member, I took an unbreakable oath to protect human life. Human females are precious. The one I’m undercover to protect is worth more than the riches of all the wealthy slime who come to watch the game she needs to survive.

I won’t let her die.

She could be the missing piece that allows me back into the prison planet I need to destroy. And if her touch means what I think it does… she could just be my fated mate. I’m ready to fight anything that gets in between us. Even one of my own.

Let the games begin.

ALIEN COP’S TARGET is a fast-paced, sexy science fiction romance that features a swoon-worthy, hot alien cop and the fierce human he’ll do anything to protect. This is book 2 of the Cosmic SWAT series and can be read in any order.

An Alien Survival Romance with Familiar Themes and Uneven Execution.

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💜🤎💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪🧪
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 🤓😋😀😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

This novel presents a dystopian sci-fi romance framed by an end-of-Earth premise and a deadly interstellar survival game, echoing tropes familiar from “The Hunger Games” and other speculative fiction.

Plot and World-Building

The narrative centers on Ava, a solitary Earthling facing humanity’s imminent extinction. Her abduction during a final hiking trip propels her into an alien gladiatorial arena orchestrated by Emperor Hunam. While the world-ending premise establishes stakes, it remains largely a backdrop, with little development beyond Ava’s initial motivation.

Khryz, her alien protector, functions as both romantic lead and covert operative within Hunam’s hierarchy. His species’ dual nature—a noble exterior masking an inner beast—introduces thematic tension, though this dynamic is more archetypal than deeply explored.

The “game” structure provides narrative momentum but feels derivative. The story’s novelty lies in the emotional thread between Ava and Khryz, maintained through a translator implant that allows real-time communication even in separation. This mechanic offers a fresh take on the fated-mate trope, allowing emotional rapport without physical proximity.

Characterization

Ava’s resilience is evident, though her interiority could be further developed, especially given her traumatic past and current isolation. Khryz exhibits the familiar alpha protector traits, but his undercover status offers intriguing limitations on his agency.

Character visual descriptions are sparse or easily missed. As a result, their physicality—often a key element in romance and sci-fi genres—feels underdeveloped. This weakens the immersion and makes their connection slightly abstract.

Pacing and Engagement

While the central conflict is clear, the pacing is inconsistent. Action sequences alternate with slower exposition or dialogue, and some sections risk losing reader attention. The emotional stakes rise gradually but are not always matched by narrative tension.

Narration

The dual narration by Rachel Leblang and Chris Chambers is serviceable. Chambers delivers a polished performance with vocal variety, though he doesn’t stand out among genre peers. Leblang’s tone is expressive, but her characterization of Hunam—described as sounding like an elderly woman—may detract from the antagonist’s credibility and menace. The overall production is competent but occasionally feels more read than performed.

Final Analysis

While the story borrows heavily from established genre frameworks, it introduces some compelling emotional dynamics between its leads. The lack of descriptive depth and fluctuating pacing limit its impact, but fans of alien romance with survivalist flair may still find it an enjoyable listen. A stronger visual sense and deeper thematic exploration could have elevated the novel’s potential beyond its genre conventions.

This is an entertaining action packed read. Six years after her sister and mother disappeared and Ava is hiking as the earth has been on a path to self destruct and its merely days before the earth implodes and humans become extinct. Ava is abducted and quickly realizes that humans have become valuable and she has been cast into a alien game show and to help her she gets a coach to help prepare her for the the show. Turns out the coach Khryz, is a hot undercover SWAT member that rescue and protects humans and can help her with her missing family. This book has it all intense chemistry, deceit, betrayals, action adventure and suspense. A must read.

So hard to stop reading it once you start!

I tried! I read Grace's story then had to get this next one to see what was going to happen to Ava. I thought book two was even smoother Han book one. The scenes just fed one into the next and I just read it right to the end like an addict on a binge! I loved the characters and the emotional pulls of this story, how Ava had to learn how to survive losing her family only to end up abducted anyway. I thought the action scenes were horrifically imaginative but really gave me excellent mental pictures. Kyrnn was also an emotionally wounded character and his struggles were also understandable. I loved this book perhaps more than book one but I'm looking forward to reading the next book that I hope is already released!

Survival of the fittest
Such a fantastic second book in this series. I love the new adventure and the TVesqness of this book. The author really amped up the danger in this book because where else can you go where everything from the plants to the water tries to end your existence. These two have to deal not just with the harsh environments, their own feelings, but also betrayal before they reach their HEA. I enjoyed these characters and the way they fit into the previous book. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

This book tried to be way too many things, just as things start to make sense then we are lead down another alley with some action, then another twist to another alley with more that really doesn’t add anything to the plot, except to muddy the waters as you try to piece together all of the strings to make sense of it all.

Interestingly I had just read another alien book that also had the female go through some similarities at 17, which is probably what didn’t help me really get into this book.

While Ava is a strong female, she at times is a bit reckless with how she’s dealing with the person who technically owns her, Hunam. He could kill her straight out or just have her repeatedly brutalized for his entertainment.

Khryz is her coach/trainer who is trying to give her enough info to help her survive her ordeal in the jungle. He’s walking a fine line between how much he can help her without giving away the fact he’s an undercover operative.

Of course these two are lusting after each other despite the fact that Hunam can at any moment demand Khryz kill Ava or he could do it himself and in order for Khryz’s plan to succeed he has to follow Hunam’s orders.

Maybe the author thought that adding everything but the kitchen sink was a way to add suspense and intrigue, unfortunately for me it was just too many things to keep track of plus the ending was so anticlimactic.

Another terrific addition to the series.

Grace (from book one) has been worried about her twin, Ava, since they were abducted. Ava is abducted by the same evil creature Grace escaped from. Khryz is another SWAT enforcer sent to save her. She may be afraid beyond belief, but she's smart, courageous, a fighter and adaptable. Khryz and Ava will need to fight just about everything on the planet to survive until the extractions new character, Tony, is introduced with humor and love. After these first two books I am totally invested in this series and recommend them for sci-fi lovers.

This book 2 in the Cosmic SWAT Series is amazingly-written story with well crafted characters. These wonderfully well written characters, flaws and all, will make you feel their emotions and you will root for them to make the connection. They have wonderful chemistry and history. I cannot wait to read more in the series. This story is filled with action, adventure, and intrigue. The supporting characters were interesting and kept me reading as well.

Several surprises

This is Khryz and Ava's book. She is the twin sister to Grace and he is a "brother" in the Antelli and S.W.A.T team with Venn.
Khryz is sent to help a human to survive a Challenge initiated by Hunam, the overlord of the prison planet Orin.
There are several surprises in this story. And I hope to read about several more in the next book about another fellow operative.

Wild ride

This second book in the series was a very wild ride. The author brought us back to Earth for a chapter, and then the action blasted off. I enjoyed this story even more than the first one. We get to find out about yet another world that the Emperor from the first book runs. But this time we're not taken to a palace by the author, we're taken to a survival/fighting arena.

Thrilling

Wow! Liz is great at writing totally engrossing romance stories about alien ales and human females. I loved that Ava was so fearless while at the same time, so fearful on the inside. And her hunky alien guy drove me crazy with all of his guilt. But it was an enjoyable read!

I enjoyed the action in this one. Ava awakes after being snatched up with many other humans. She is scheduled to be pawn in the emporer's games. (Think Hunger Games but on a foreign planet.) When she finds that her trainer has a plan to help her escape.
It's a spicy, sexy, adult version of Hunger Games.

This series needs to be read in order! Awesome!

The first book was Venn and Grace. In this book we met Khryz and Ava, Grace's twin that she has not seen in 6 years! At the end they find and return with their mother. What an incredible story!

Ava is abducted and left on an alien world. Khryz will try his best to save her and take her to the human community. Neither expected the sparks between them. A wonderful alien romance.

Personal Preference Rating 4/5 🌶🌶️🌶️ Audiobook (SribD)
I liked this second book in the series, but I wish there was more resolution at the end. I wanted the two MCs together more than they were and I was left with a lot more questions than answers.
