I read this book in two days. It was a sweet sunbed read which is just up my street.

Acabou rápido de mais 😢. Dava para ser um livro maior porque acompanha várias personagens diferentes e a ação desenrola se muito rápido. Esperava mais cenas entre o casal principal. Nesta época eram todos muito diretos e frios 😁. Não havia paninhos quentes!!! Ainda assim fico com pena de ter acabado e lia mais umas páginas... principalmente porque fiquei a aguardar a consumação do matrimónio 🥵

I really like this story it kind of reminded me of those Catherine Cookson films based in England which I love. I haven't read that much historical fiction before so it was very new to me. However it was a good read and if like historical genre and romance or even just a change I would recommend.

Sabem como é ter um livro na estante à imenso tempo e nunca vos ter dado vontade de ler e de repente olham para ele e é esse mesmo que tem de ser lido, nesse exato momento?
Pois bem, foi o que aconteceu comigo e com este livro, e ainda bem que cedi ao impulso e comecei a lê-lo.
Esta foi a minha estreia com a autora e gostei muito da estreia, pois a Anna Jacobs apresenta uma trama bastante fluída e que nos envolve desde a primeira página.
Neste livro ficamos a conhecer a Mattie uma jovem que contra a sua vontade é prometida pelo seu padrasto em casamento e para se salvar a si e às suas irmãs toma a decisão de todas elas fugirem, mas nessa fuga tomam caminhos diferentes.
Assim acompanhamos a Mattie em fuga, doente, assustada, mas também com uma enorme coragem, resiliência e sem vontade de se conformar com o seu destino, sendo que quando tudo parecia prendido para ela tem a sorte de ser encontrada pelo Jacob e ser acolhida por ele e pela sua família e é aí que vai haver um ponto de viragem na sua vida.
Mas será que tudo vai ser tão fácil para a nossa protagonista, só lendo é que vamos descobrir como vai terminar, mas posso dizer que nesta leitura me consegui contactar com a Mattie e estive sempre a torcer para que tivesse o melhor final feliz a que tinha direito.
Tenho pena que este seja o único livro publicado pela Anna Jacobs aqui em Portugal, pois gostava de ficar a conhecer mais obras desta autora.

Segue o teu Destino, conta-nos a história de Mattie, uma rapariga de 28 anos que ainda está solteira e que vive com o padrasto e duas irmãs. O homem é simplesmente nojento e usa as filhas como suas criadas, incutindo nelas sempre o medo e ameaças de lhes bater – alem de que fica com o dinheiro que elas ganham nos trabalhos que tem. Mattie, apesar de mais velha e meia irmã das outras duas, ama-as de igual forma e já sofreu às mãos do padrasto apenas para que não fossem as irmãs a sofrer. Porem tudo isso muda quando decidem fugir – uns dias após o padrasto indicar a Mattie que a ‘vendeu’ a um homem para casamento em troca de uma boa quantia.
Após planearem a fuga, Mattie acaba por ter se separar das irmãs e ter uma rota de fuga diferente, o que a leva também a ficar muito doente enquanto tenta a todo o custo desaparecer para o mais longe possível, e já muito fraca e quase a morrer com uma pneumonia, acaba por cair frente à casa de Jacob.
Jacob é um homem de 30 e poucos anos, viúvo e com dois filhos pequenos. Muito trabalhador e orgulhoso do seu trabalho – adora cultivar e plantar, cuidar da sua quinta e dos seus animais, assim como tem um carinho maternal pela sua senhoria, uma velhinha de 70 anos que também o trata como um filho, embora não pareça. É o filho de Jacob que descobre Mattie deitada à porta de casa deles e que alerta o pai para a situação o que faz com que ele a leve para sua casa e decida começar a cuidar dela – para que não faleça.
A história é bem continua, temos sempre algo a acontecer e temos várias perspetivas de todos os personagens. Nota-se que é uma época diferente dado que é em 1910 e nessa altura já muitas coisas estavam um pouco diferentes. Gostei da escrita e da história em si, porem lamento que tenha sido tão pouco focado no romance dos personagens e na relação dos dois. Houve mais atenção a outros pontos da história que poderiam ter sido mencionados de outra forma e acabou por faltar mais informação da relação de Mattie e Jacob – que era um dos pontos principais do livro.
Ainda assim, dei-lhe 4 estrelas, pois foi uma boa leitura, rápida e que me agradou. Há livros que são para os momentos, e este foi um desses casos.

I accidentally stumbled upon Cherry Tree lane by accident and thought that it sounded good, I do not normally read this genre of books but was immediately drawn into the storyline and am now a complete convert and am definitely going to be reading more of Anna Jacobs books after the Wiltshire Girls series. Cherry Tree lane starts the trilogy each book about a different sister and what happened to them after they ran away to escape their abusive father. I loved how the storyline moved along getting to know the characters and I found that I genuinely cared what happened to them, felt very sad at the sadder parts of the book and by the end could have kept reading on and on about Mattie I loved her character so much and felt a bit bereft at having to leave her behind for a while! Luckily I am sure it's not the last we have heard of Mattie and am looking forward to reading what happened to the other sisters. I would highly recommend this series!

Mattie the girl with no expectations and shy Jacob.
I listened to this on audio and Nicolette McKenzie does a fair job.
Mattie and her younger half sisters have a step father/father from hell. He never wants any of them to marry. That is until he decides to sell Mattie to a friend of his. SO the girls all run away in different directions. Mattie falls near death with pneumonia at Jacob's door, who then nurses her to health with the help of the wealthy old lady next door. There are a multitude of bad guys in this one and sometimes I wished there had been less time spent on them and more on Jacob and Mattie and the kids.
The story is a wee bit slow to get into. I didn't start to feel the love between the two til half way and it is a slow gentle progression. The second half of the book is quite suspenseful and kept me glued to the pages. There is the constant threat of her step father coming to get her and there is the elderly neighbours bullying cousin determined to take her inheritance. The reason I only give 3 stars is because of the abrupt ending. I really expected more for all the time I put into listening to this one (9+hrs). It felt like the author took a look at her watch and the number of pages written and decided to wrap it up quick (literally the last 10 minutes). Especially Jacob's son suddenly deciding he likes Mattie after all?!?. The story is VERY PG. I don't usually care if a story has sex so long as it is romantic, but I think perhaps this author isn't my cuppa. Not romantic enough.

Cherry Tree Lane formed part of a Christmas gift I gave myself and what a wonderful thoughtful treat it proved to be. This enchanting historical story is set in England early in the 20th century, a wonderful period to weave a relationship. Women were finding a voice while many men struggled to understand what sharing meant or could mean.
Anna Jacob's novel is book one of the Wiltshire Girls Series, a three-book exposé about the trials of three sisters who find themselves separated and searching. --- I loved `Cherry Tree Lane' another five stars for Anna Jacobs.

I'm not sure on this. I liked Anna Jacobs' other series, the Traders series, and thought that as I know she follows the same general route that I'd like this, not to mention that the covers and blurb made it sound interesting. But this book hasn't been the greatest at giving me a positive opinion of this series and thus I'm unsure about whether or not I'm going to read the remaining two.
The beginning was fine, a slow start but quite understandable and able to give the characters of John, his children and the wealthy old woman some room to grow and flourish, and then the hasty marriage between Mattie and John was all well and good, but I didn't really feel anything between them, even after. It was supposed to be slowly developing - and I get that, really - but where Anna Jacobs succeeded greatly in portraying it in her Traders series, I feel that it really fell flat in this book. I wasn't really drawn to Mattie, Jacob's son gets sidelined even though I thought he was going to be a bigger presence rather than just a negative, glaring one towards Mattie, and honestly the guy Mattie's stepfather was going to force her to marry sounded like someone who cared for her more than Jacob did (okay, I get that it was to be a forced marriage, and I'm glad Mattie decided she wasn't going to be made to marry someone she didn't want, but she didn't know the guy and was portraying him as a villain when it's her stepfather that's the villain).

This story about three sisters living in poverty under the thumb of an abusive father is set in 1910 England.
The three girls make hurried plans to run away from their brutal home life when the eldest is forced into an unwanted betrothal. The story takes off rapidly from there as Mattie becomes central character running in fear for her life after seeing her two younger sisters off.
The plot is fast paced and interesting and a very good read. The brutality of the father is shocking and I could understand the intense fear and desperation as Mattie runs. No boring moments here. Great characters and a solid plot although a bit predictable at times.
A book I will recommend to readers of historical fiction.

Loved this story.
Always 5star's for this author her stories are brilliant ,it was lucky for Mattie that young Luke found her and Jacob for looking after her with Miss Newington a bit strange but kindly.Arthur was a nasty piece and I had to laugh to myself at the end i thought she had left it all to Jacob how wrong was i.Can't wait to start the next book.

I found this book enchanting and full of hope. It's about a young woman who takes a risk in escaping the life she had with her abusive stepfather. She succeeds only to faint with exhaustion and illness during a storm. Luckily she was rescued and taken care of by a widower and his family. And with this new life she was blessed in more ways than one.

Agradável e ligeiro. A acção desenrola-se de forma demasiado rápida e ficam pontas soltas. Aguardemos pelos dois volumes que se lhe seguem. Espero que a Editora não descuide o facto de haver um seguimento.
Não consigo habituar-me a ler palavras do "acordês" actual. Ler a palavra "circunspeta" faz doer o coração de qualquer Português que leia e escreva com respeito pela Língua....

A book set in England in 1910, based around 1 sister who refuses to be bullied into marriage, also helps her 2 stepsisters run away. I enjoyed the story line and characters, the ending seemed predictable, but look forward to reading the other 2 books in this series.

Embora seja um livro de escrita simples e fácil de ler, não gostei muito da história, achei que se desenrolou mais centrada numa personagem secundaria do que nas personagens principais. O romance entre as personagens principais foi muito precipitado e meio "frio".

Absolutely loved it. Couldn’t put it down and finished it in a day. Another brilliant series in the making. Can’t wait to get into the second book.
