A nail biting tale worth adapting to Web series!!

When It comes to writing the details, Women authors have no match, whether it be Jane Austen of "Pride & Prejudice" or Emily Bronte of "Wuthering heights" or be it our own Priya Nayak Gole of "Break", their capability in bringing out the minutest details in describing the characters, events or emotions are unparalleled.
The Novel commences on a sad note with Rewa, the female protagonist, loosing her unborn baby, amidst her Baby shower ceremony,in what she thought was not just accident. Rewa works as hostage negotiator and a profiler with Crime Branch, Mumbai. The incident left her broken, but as if this was not enough, her husband "Rohan sethi" a Senior inspector in crime branch Mumbai went absconding leaving her alone with her sorrows . As broken Rewa tries to rebuild her life taking up random assignments in Crime Branch Chennai, one fine day she receives a call from DIG Office, Crime Branch New Delhi, offering her an assignment for an undercover agent to a far away secret prison called "woodbreak" with the purpose of unearthing suspected coup in place. Although reluctant, she ultimately decided to took up the assignment.
Rewa, to her surprise, not only finds nefarious activities happening right behind prison premises in connivance with prison authorities but also feels her heart falling towards "Gurmeet Khatri" ,a doctor by profession and dreaded convict accused of serial murders.Her preset assignment also holds secrets of misfortune that befell her six years ago. As story unfolds we find ourselves awestruck at the change of events.This Novel will keep you guessing the conclusion at each change of event, yet the conclusion wouldn't be what you had thought. Every change of event will surprise you to the core. The story is successful at multiple levels, narration,flow,plot and not to mention the wonderfully crafted love scenes which sends ripples of arousal to readers. Some of the wonder lines of this Book are:
1) How eager we actually are, to find that - what breaks us!” Then why do we fear the thought of breaking, when on the other hand we desperately seek it? (From Foreword by Ansh Seth)
2) Gosh… the psychiatrist was right, but not just those convicts; she too had been deprived from gratification for a long time. Her vibrator didn’t help at all and one look at this convict’s picture and she was lusting. Her thoughts couldn't get more diabolical, could they? What was it about her to get attracted to the wrong people?
3)It’s the similarities that bring us to a common ground and it’s the differences which brings novelty into our mundane lives…attract us to each other. So, doctor, opposites attract and the similar fall and stay in love… we fall in love at the most unexpected places, with the most unexpected person…and at the most unexpected time…
4) He looked up at the mountain peaks spread in their white snow-capped glory all over again and discovered the fact that he could see them merge peacefully with the clouds only because he was high up here. He wouldn’t be able to appreciate their beauty if he was still on the plains below and the realisation started to calm his inner storm.

Riveting, brutal, and beautifully told . This book is Intellectually honest. Priya grabs words, mixes them with emotions, and blends them to give what I consider one of the best literary works of an Indian writer. It’s not easy to find the quality of literature amidst the number of books getting published. This book is a rare find. The prologue starts with tragedy, Priya talks about how life will shatter you, break you, and promises that this book will break you too- but only to make you stronger. The cliche is what breaks you makes you stronger. isn’t it? The story is woven elegantly with braids of character development through 6 years past and now. The starting chapters promise to juggle you through the midst and mist of time.
One important thing to mention here is the way Priya describes the police investigation and research. It’s not easy to write so seamlessly, it needs so much research about crime and investigation. Check this interview where she talks about her book research.
Priya brings the essence of South India with her mentions of Coimbatore and Upma. What I loved about this book is that the detailing is kept subtle and that is indeed an Art.
The protagonist Rewa with her pain of losing a child and then her disappeared husband starts the tale. The suspense is on. Flashback, Rewa is one of the most popular hostage negotiators and falls in love with Rohan Sethi, a police officer.
Rewa’s characterization is one of the beautiful aspects of this book. How can a strong female yet fragile inside, full of confusion and trust issues sort her life? This is the building block of characterization and the author has absolutely nailed it. The scenes of intimacy will tingle you for sure. The pregnancy aspects and senses were well described. Overall, the book will give you a feeling that everything has been kept honest, no funky or exaggeration.
This book is for adults who understand some level of intimacy and maturity. For readers who are more interested in understanding the highs and lows of a relationship. If I have critical feedback, humor is a major miss but hey, that’s ok. This book is to break you for good, remember that.

Intriguing and Gripping
One of the best Thrillers I read till now. I was so engrossed in the story that I forgot about the surroundings and the story was like a live film going on in my head.

Priya's novel takes the reader on a tumultuous ride with Rewa, a criminal profiler with the crime branch. Despite her professional success, she fails to delineate her husband Rohan, who deserts her, leaving Rewa broken. A special mission to a high security prison Woodbreak, spirals into her nemesis as the other players, especially Dr Gurmeet Khatri begin to complete the scarred jigsaw of her life. The narrative which crisscrosses the terrains of Manali, Delhi and Chennai and fits the pieces crossing back and forth in time, hurtles to a befitting retribution. A tauter plotline and better editing would have greatly improved the read. A great debut nevertheless, by an author seeking to make her mark in the genre of suspense-romance. Looking more from Priya's pen!

Loved reading this suspense story with hint of romance. It is really diificult to take a BREAK while reading this book as the twist and turns keeps you hooked as "What next?"
