I adore Krissy Cela and was so excited to read this book. It was really great in the sense that it helped reframe and refine how I view my fitness journey, but it is definitely geared toward women looking to begin their journey, not those who are already on theirs. I wish it would have offered more specific insight into training, nutrition, and science. Overall, I highly recommend for any woman looking to begin her fitness journey! Krissy Cela is truly incredible and offers such healthy, wholesome advice which is difficult to find in the fitness industry.

It was difficult to rate this. It’s a brilliant book for anybody who is new or at least fairly new to the fitness industry but at someone who is quite educated and a little more advanced in fitness, it was a little boring and just re-iterated a lot of things I am already fully aware of, as opposed to feeding me more insightful facts.

Good book but not educational enough for me.

I really hate giving this book two stars but it’s a health book from an expert that doesn’t have any sample workouts or recipes/meal plans. I am also surprised that she didn’t discuss how women lose weight differently then men… I think many women plateau when they don’t see a difference but their male partner continues to lose weight or gain muscle if tracking strength- training. There are some repetitive points and passages… yes we know Chrissy that you didn’t use your gym membership for months after getting one. Don’t get me wrong, there are some very good pep talk and advice such as reframing workouts as essential self-care and utilizing intuitive eating. Hopefully, her next book will be more robust.

I loveee Krissy and everything she stands for. Overall the book is aimed at people who are looking for that motivation to start regularly going to the gym, so this book was not so useful for me as an already active person. Still had some useful info though !

This book is amazing for people struggling with themselves and for people who want to start living a healthier life.
This book is full of tips that can help you with your journey, but it's also filled with loads of information about exercising, nutrition, vitamins and so much more.
Besides that, the tasks in the book can help you with starting your journey.
I'm definitely planning on rereading this book and doing the tasks and restarting my fitness journey.

This book was really easy to get through, i like how Krissy didn’t spend ages on one topic and things were kept simple. She covered a fair amount of topics, such as mental perspective, scheduling, and diet.
However, I did think that certain parts of this were a little repetitive though, i felt a lot of it was just repeating “stay consistent, form habits” which i understand is needed to drill into the reader. But i found it to be quite frequent.
Im giving it three stars as this was aimed at women who are only beginning with fitness, i would have loved to see more advice and instructions for women already on a fitness journey.

Inspirational, no nonsense fitness/wellness book. I really enjoyed the layout, structure and that fact that the author only gives you the meat & bones. No fluff or odd suggestions. If you need help getting of the couch, this book is the most helpful. Very concise, uplifting, solid. I see why she has so many followers! I will recommend it 100% to all my friends! Looking forward to reading her other books too. Excellent information with stellar editing. All stars!

I enjoyed this book. Worth reading to get yourself back in the proper frame of mind for exercise. I haven't heard of this author/Personal Trainer, so I was not sure what to expect. I'm now moving onto her next book, Happy, Healthy, Strong. It has recipes, exercises and more advice in it. Looking forward to getting myself healthier and fitter.

Good book with lots of great tips of all fitness aspects (even as a 21 year old man I learned loads from this book!) as an obsessive climber, fitness is a big part of my life and it’s great to have more knowledge about it. Especially the food aspect

This is the book you need to kick your ass into gear!!!
For so long I have suffered with ‘no motivation’ or should I now say ‘no discipline’ and this has impacted my mental health and my physical health. I suffer with a gluten intolerance and although this can’t be fixed, I can help it with fitness and nutrition.
Thank you Krissy for this inspiring book, you truly are a wonderful woman.

I'm a sucker for fitness books, so once I saw this one, despite not being familiar with Krissy, I had to check it out. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. Krissy seems very genuine and down to earth. She is a very relatable trainer and the book has a conversational tone. I really liked her emphasis on discipline and habit over motivation and willpower. She cited research throughout that outlined the importance of the former two qualities over the latter two. The reading is still very approachable though, even for those who may not love science. I did feel that her writing was a bit too unpolished for my liking at time. The tone kind of annoyed me at times as well. She mentions so many times about how people think she is superwoman or something to that effect and she continually tells the reader she is not. The only reason she cited as people thinking this is because she had a full load of college/university classes, worked 30 hours a week, and worked out. Most people I know at least did the former in college, and many did some type of sport and/or worked out. I did it while pregnant with my first baby. It just seems like such a common thing that it made her come off as a little entitled or something? I don't know, generally, I liked her and thought she seemed sweet, but those parts just came off really weird. Also, she talks about putting yourself first, before anyone else. Spoken by someone who doesn't have children. Parents have a lot more curveballs thrown at them that you cannot plan for. I get it. I also was a stick to my planner each day type of person. I still love planners. But, as a parent, you can't count on things going according to schedule. Improvising is needed on a daily basis, multiple times a day. I would have liked more details on how one might navigate those challenges besides not making excuses and putting yourself first, because, my kids' needs definitely come before my own and that is not going to change. But again, I understand that is hard to even fathom before you have kids of your own and personally experience the unique challenges that parenthood brings.

All in all, I thought it was a good book and brought up some very helpful points that would put most people on track for healthier habits to lead to a healthier lifestyle. She is not about gimmicks or quick fixs, but about adopting a series of healthy and sustainable choices. There are no recipes or food recommendations. I did not mind this as I wasn't looking for that anyways, but just wanted to note it for others who may be looking. As so many fitness books advocate one way to eat or omitting entire food groups, this was really nice in some ways. Thought, I wouldn't have minded her sharing what her meal plans look like or some healthy ideas for those who are new to healthy eating.

“Always remember, an excuse provides a short-term win, like having an extra ten minutes of mindless scrolling or leaving the bathroom to be cleaned until next week. However, an action provides a long-term win, long-term progress—that ten-minute workout will lead to more energy, better habits and a willingness to do more for yourself.”*

Cela lays out a plan to develop a healthier lifestyle, which includes better nutrition, exercise, and mindset. First she asks the reader to dig deep into the “why” behind such aspirations, going beyond how one wants to look to how they want to feel. She tackles excuses and procrastination, making time for workouts and food prep, how forming good habits help, support systems, getting past fear, and mindful eating. Some of her words of wisdom include the following: Focus on the journey rather than the destination, progress over perfection, motivation works in the short term but counting on habits is better for the long term, and reframing situations increases resilience. She also includes periodic check in questions to keep one’s plan on track.

Cela has a great conversational writing style, and she shares numerous personal stories about her own journey. On multiple occasions, she mentions her Tone and Sculpt program as a tool, however, the references came across as helpful, i.e. as a potential supplemental aid, rather than as a sales pitch for her product,

The book addresses specific issues such as menstruation and fear of bulking up muscles. My favorite thing about the book is the sense of positivity and creating a sustainable program for better health. I recommend DO THIS FOR YOU for anyone who wants to make some positive changes and is looking for a kind and gentle guide to help. I liked how the book isn’t packed with recipes or meal plans or exercise routines, yet some references are included to such things. Not only does the author encourage the reader to do this for you, her message also implies you do you. For example, she makes a case for weight training yet encourages expertise/movement as a whole regardless of the type of activity.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Go, an imprint of Hachette Books, for providing an Advance Reader Copy.

I'm a fan of Krissy's online content and platform, particularly because her brand is focused on fitness and health (as opposed to vanity/aesthetic) and gaining confidence in your routine, a sort of mantra that motivation in exercise leads to motivation in life. I love her workouts, too!

This is a good book for anyone looking to start their fitness journey, as well as anyone looking to shift their point of view in order to be more disciplined, efficient, and realistic in achieving their fitness goals, all centered around the idea that you are "doing it for you". It gets really empowering at times, which I enjoyed.

Part of what I also love about this book is that Krissy makes it a point to emphasize the no shortcut part of fitness. It reframed the way I thought about being healthy: that it's a lifelong thing and "deadlines" (i.e. aiming to lose n kg in a month, aiming to get abs in a few weeks, etc.) are ultimately futile and miss the point, and that it's all about sustainability and taking care of yourself more than anything else.

If you like her online stuff you will like this book.

This book is really good for women who are starting their health and fitness journey, and Krissy has some really great messaging and advice on how to get started.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is deep into their journey- there wasn't a lot of 'new information' for me in here, but it was a quick and easy read which was enjoyable nonetheless.
There were a few moments where I felt what she was saying was a bit tone deaf, but I can forgive that because the message she is sending to her readers is of health and happiness, and I can't fault someone for that!

I definitely feel inspired after this however I thought it was going to be about the full empowerment of women and embracing who we are however it was majority focused on fitness. I’m not complaining though because I’m passionate about fitness and health so it’s worth the read if that interest you!!

I’ve been following Krissy Cela since the beginning of her journey and it’s incredible to see how far she has grown now! This book is more for beginners/people who are starting their health journey, but I still appreciated the read. Very motivational and love the cut-the-bullshit approach. A book about real stuff, not diets and physique look. Loved it!

I received this book from @hatchetteaus in exchange for an honest review.

Krissy's debut book is focused on women who want to transform their lives, and gives us the tools and encouragement we need to create long-term habits, rather than short term motivation.
This book helped me to not only rethink certain aspects of my lifestyle, but also helped me embrace my self confidence and continue the journey of loving who I am whilst still actively working to better myself!
In this book, Krissy tackles issues that she has seen in women (and overcome herself) including keeping focused, getting rid of excuses, time restraints and fear.
Rather than focusing purely on aesthetic, Krissy encourages her readers to dive deeper into WHY we want to change to a healthier lifestyle, and gives us the tools we need to get there.
The writing style is conversational and light, if a bit unnecessarily wordy at times. This is an easy read that I recommend to anyone who needs a good place to start their health journey and isn't sure how to go about it, or even someone who needs that extra push to keep them going!

*2.5
I'm at a very different place than I was when I started this book two years ago. (I'm a non-committal reader whoopsies). I've now been a kinesiology student for over two years, and where I once knew NOTHING about fitness I now know a lot more - including a lot of scientific aspects.

It just didn't feel like this book had anything to offer me.

I'm giving this book a 2.5 stars, not because it's inherently bad, but just because of where I'm at and the information that was being offered.

I also feel like it's unnecessary to buy the book because a lot of the non-science stuff can be found on the authors Instagram/ her fitness app. Then in terms of the science nothing new is being offered up and all the info is simple enough you could probably get it from just looking up a question on google scholar.

Krissy does seem like a kind hearted person though and if you're brand new to fitness and you're looking at this book, don't let me stop you from reading it!

The most helpful, honest and practical fitness book I've read recently (and I've read hundreds). It doesn't just deal with fitness, but with the root cause of our self-esteem issues. It is realistic and quashes fitness notions that promote toxic thoughts. It is as much about physical fitness as it is about mental health. The only reason it lost 1 star is that sometimes Cela recommends something only a few chapters later to slightly contradict it. So I don't think some of the real-life examples were edited that well. And some pictures to break up the text would have been nice. However, overall it's a really helpful book - it is all positivity and building on what you have, not what you wish you had.

Krissy is such a big inspiration and this book is amazing in educating women the importance of prioritising self love and your own journey in health. It really helped to shift my mindset into a positive one and was a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the toxic diet culture seen nowadays!

I do believe this book is for people wanting to begin their fitness journey and for people already in a good routine this might not be one to read. Wish Krissy would bring a book out with more science behind weight training and nutrition!❤️

Informative quick read, and a great guide for forming healthy habits. Do This For You covers healthy eating, habits, exercise, and how to set goals that work best for you.

As a parent of two young children who are at home with me all day, I would have loved some parent-specific advice on how to maintain healthy habits and exercise with extremely limited “me time.”

Overall it’s a helpful resource that focuses on staying positive and mindful.

Thank you so much to Hachette Go for the ARC.

I got this book after following krissy for a while on social media. She is one of the very few "influencers" i trust. This book was great. It felt fresh and gave a perspective on health and fitness that is not often talked about. I really appreciate this book. I did find some parts to be repetitive, although I think that was the point. I recommend if you want to get into fitness and looking after yourself.

5 stars. I love Krissy! She is the ultimate girl boss, fitspo inspiration and looks like she genuinely cares, listens and practices what she preaches. I’ve learned so much from her (by following on Instagram) and look up to her in so many ways. This book is a great resource when starting your fitness and health journey and helps break it down in steps to take action. I’ll refer back to it when I need a reset or feel stuck on my own journey for sure!

After following Krissy for years I was so excited to read this. It was filled with genuine help and guidance and will be great to revisit whenever you feel a little bit lost in your journey.

My key memory of the book is that motivation lies to you and you need to rely on discipline and consistency instead!
