Why does productivity always come with anxiety?
Why do you have random bursts of hyperfocus?
Why can't you finish any projects you start?
Why can't you get focused on command?
Why do you get distracted so easily?
Are you just lazy?

Is it possible for people with ADHD to be productive and happy at the same time?

You're not lazy or stupid, you just have ADHD. It's a neurodevelopmental disorder with pros and cons. You can be both focused & productive without giving up your happiness. You just need to learn to use your brain properly. Countless professionals have built happy, successful careers, businesses, and projects despite their ADHD diagnosis, and you can too.

ADHD Pro is a deeply personal book that exposes the struggles of having ADHD in a society that revolves around hustle culture and "work-ethic". After over a dozen interviews with successful professionals, Robert Merki turns this notion on its head by introducing a better strategy to increase your productivity and happiness at the same time.

You don't have to live a life of painful "discipline" and "hard work" just to build and complete projects. All you need is a healthy & sustainable strategy, and the desire to understand your own brain.

This ADHD book is not a self help book, it is one man's perspective on life with ADHD and the way he's used it as an advantage. The book has interviews with various industry professionals with ADHD and their strategies. This book is a MUST READ if you have ADHD and I found it incredibly helpful. The author is incredibly relatable and proves his knowledge on the subject in every chapter. I was laughing at how similar my own experiences are to those of the author. 10/10.

This is a really well-written and useful book. One of the things that repeatedly surprised me during my reading of it, was how closely related my own personal experience and thinking with ADHD, was to the author’s. The characterisation, not only of the desperate attempts to understand and overcome the productivity issues that arise with ADHD, but also the hardship that comes from this process almost exactly mirrored my own. Even without the strategies it is certainly reassuring to read that you are not alone with this issue!

Before moving to the strategies of the book, there is a lot of eloquently described pain and resentment that the author feels having had to deal with many of these issues alone and without adequate support. Again, this will hopefully help others relate who may be in a similar situation and to get the right help they need quicker. The strategies in the book are helpful and well-thought out. They have clearly been devised from a combination of intelligent reflection, trial and error and extensive research. The majority of them overlapped with what I’d already invented myself, but there were plenty of new ideas and insights that I picked up along the way.

In particular, the way the author uses the concept of ‘tacit knowledge’ to help explain the difficulties of having ADHD was extremely novel and useful to me. This has helped me think about my past successes and failures better, and will help me think about new strategies going forwards. I also found the chapter on distractions incredibly helpful as it introduced me to the idea that the issue of distractions is likely to be more of a ‘push’ issue from the work you’re trying to do, rather than a ‘pull’ issue from addictive distractions.

If this book relates to you or anyone you know, you’ll find it extremely useful.

The best

The best book I’ve read on ADHD. The last section - the advice section - has practical, actionable things that can be done to help work with ADHD.
Some of the language is a bit coarse, but over all, a great book.

This book contained lots of practical well-researched information compacted and explained in a way that made it not only a useful resource but also an enjoyable read.
I haven't been diagnosed with ADHD, but some difficulties described in the book seem very familiar to me, and I feel that I have gained new understanding of why I might be struggling at times and I learned specific steps I can take to improve my mindset, frame my thinking in more beneficial ways and become productive without constantly forcing myself, and I'm very grateful for that.

Best ADHD book I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot)

Robert’s firm and compassionate, insider’s approach to advising other ADHD folk is a welcome relief from clinicians who only have advice with experience or overly sweet ADHD advocates who recommend we all just relax and love ourselves. Full of practical, applicable advice from his own experience and that of other successful ADHD folks, this book is concise, encouraging and helpful. Go.

This book drastically changed my outlook on life and I'll forever be thankful to the author for taking the time to carefully reflect on his experience with ADHD and sharing it with those with ADHD who struggled to connect their life experiences to the condition!

I have spent almost my whole life wondering why I felt so "broken" and seemingly alone in my never-ending struggles with focus, studies, projects, distractions, procrastination, impostor syndrome, childhood behaviour, and mood. Dozens of abandoned plans, hundreds of unfinished projects, scoldings for being hyperactive in elementary school... I suspected ADHD years ago, but was dismissed as "not trying hard enough" at my studies by my parents. I shelved that thought in shame and chalked up my issues to a moral failure. I was in shock at how deeply i related to the author's struggles, and how often i thought "What! That's what i went through!" while reading.

In ADHD Pro, the author shares various life stories to explain how ADHD influenced him while growing up. He presents relevant analogies that help communicate the causes of the challenges one might face, their pitfalls, and how to overcome them. Armed with personal experience and insight acquired from interviews with other creators living with ADHD, he shares helpful advice to build your own strategies to not only survive, but to thrive with ADHD. Even if you don't have ADHD, the book is still an excellent and useful read.
