RV There Yet?

Rate this book
Life's a journey. Midlife's an adventure. But two weeks in a RV with the hot-flash sisters could drive anyone over the hill.

Dede signed on for this cross-country RV trip selflessly, for Millie and Lydia's sakes. Besides, she needed to get her mind off a love gone wrong and a demanding gourmet chocolates business. And it's for a good cause--sprucing up the old summer camp in Colorado to save it from closing. It will be a fun, memorable last hurrah before she turns fifty. Right?

But Dede's more of a luxury hotel kind of girl. She likes mints on plumped pillows and room service. Bunking with friends in a motor home the size of a phone booth is not her style. And with the mysterious biker gang and a stalking ex-boyfriend, the RV seems to be shrinking.

Still, with friends, a boutiful supply of truffles, and a boy from her past who has aged very well, this trip might be the best vacation ever!

A hilarious story that celebrates the life in midlife--even the occasional moose and mosquitoes--and the surprising grace of God.

I thought this book was pretty good. I would've liked to have seen an epilogue or something at the end to see how things ended up for each of the characters though.

This was a fun read especially since my family has an RV and I could relate to some of the adventures.
In this book, three friends start a trek from Maine to Colorado to help fix up their old church youth camp. Each woman is at a different stage of their life. Lydia is getting over the loss of her husband. Millie is picking up the pieces after a divorce where her ex has already remarried. And finally, DeDe is getting over a breakup with a guy who was unavailable.
Each one of the ladies has her own problems but together they support one another.
The supporting cast is entertaining.
My favorite part of the book was the following passage: “Now let me tell you, you haven’t lived until you’ve tried showering while traveling down the road. And I thought I had bruises from Lydia and Millie’s beating. I had no idea how hard it would be to clean between my toes, in a stork stance, while being jostled about like a chicken in a bag of Shake ‘n Bake. Let me just say the dirt between my toes isn’t worth the effort.”

Friends, Fun, Laughter, and Tears

Three women travel in an old motorhome determined to save the church camp they attended as teens. I love how the author dealt with each of the women as they begin new stages in their lives. They prove that there can be new beginnings and adventures after turning 50.

Good book

It took me a while to get through it. It wasn't a book that stayed in my head all day till I had time to read. But it's a book I'm glad I did read. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance, and modern day stories.

Three friends - Dede, Millie, and Lydia - met at a Christian camp during a summer in their teen years. They all have fond memories of their experiences, and when they discover the camp is having difficulty staying open, decide to attend a reunion to help fix the place up again. Millie and Lydia are already in their 'hot flash fifties' and Dede is hovering on the edge. All of their lives are at a crossroads: Dede has just broken things off with her longtime boyfriend, Lydia has recently lost her husband, and Millie has gone through a divorce. What a great time to take a cross country trip in Lydia's breaking down motor home from New England to Colorado.

They all agree to make this two weeks full of memories that will last a lifetime. Fortified with chocolate, maps, a quirky bird, and three very different personalities, the women set off on a wild adventure. The road to good works is not paved smoothly, and these ladies have to overcome personal struggles as well as interesting challenges that arise while traveling together in such close quarters.

rv there yet? is a funny story to which women will relate. Dede, Millie, and Lydia have unique and easily identifiable personality traits, yet they all have something in common. Throughout their journey, they need to learn how to trust God more and give up their own control over life. Many of their circumstances force them into doing just that. Dede has concerns about her love life and her business. Millie feels like she's getting phased out of her job. Lydia frets about what she will do now that she's alone. Common situations, but heartfelt and gentle solutions are presented.

Occasionally, the circumstances are a bit contrived and clichéd. It's pretty obvious that the stalker motorcycle gang members are not who the women think they are. The reader can see that coming from a mile away, yet the characters in the story are clueless. Other than that, rv there yet? is a sweet read about a group of mid-life women having a grand adventure. Readers can live vicariously through the characters, or use their experiences as inspiration to do a similar thing themselves.

Can you imagine three independent women traveling cross country in an RV together? DeDe, Millie and Lydia had met at a camp in Colorado one summer in high school. Now they are more mature, as in fiftyish, menopausal and premenopausal. When they got word that Aspen Creek Bible Camp was in need of help from its alumni, the three friends decided to take time off from their "regular lives" and have an adventure. They met at Lydia's in Maine and got reacquainted while preparing for the trip. Waldo, the recreational vehicle, had weeds growing up around it but Lydia thought "he" should be okay. On the trip from Maine to Colorado DeDe had time to reconsider her troubled relationship with Rob, Millie was paranoid about her job at the library and Lydia continued missing her late husband. Each expected to see certain people they remembered from camp. They also expected to work at fixing up the buildings and grounds of a place that meant good times. What happened on the way was unexpected and the group they reunited with at Aspen camp was a surprise, too. Millie's organizational skills helped and so did Lydia's culinary expertise. But Millie's trumpet playing resulted in a somewhat scary outcome. Time to rethink life, relationships and how we spend our time was productive for many of the alums. This is sure a fun read full of chick humor and situations. I look forward to reading another story about friends laughing, listening and caring about one another as they go through life's 'adventures.'

I received a copy of the book from the other, and it took me a while to get into it. The plot is cute, I think maybe my mom would like it better. It's about 3 childhood friends, no menopausal going cross country in an RV to save their Bible camp. I enjoyed the story, but it wasn't one I couldn't put down. I had trouble with the main character. I didn't really like her personality that much. But overall it's a cute book, and if you are into the religious theme, it's probably up your alley.

This was a great book with a lot of insight in it. I don't know if I picked this book up at the right time in my life that it has helped pick me up a little. No....I am not going through menopause. Heck, I have another 25 years before I start to worry about that. If you are looking for a good book and a quick read I would recommend this book.

I enjoyed it and would have enjoyed it more except for two reasons (that were totally me and not a reflection on this book) i need romance too! I really missed the romance and secondly, the characters are 50 and make menopause jokes. I'm just not there yet. I'm a decade away and I just found it all depressing rather than funny.

Cute. Entertaining. Not much romance. Girlfriend stuff. Still not as good as the Sisterchick series where there are wonderful girlfriend "nuggets" throughout the books.
