My Rating: 4 Stars
Tropes: Young Adult | High School Romance
First and foremost, I really enjoyed Letting You Go by Jordan Marie. This is the first book I’ve read from her and I’m genuinely excited to read more. I do want to mention though that this book cover is deceiving. When you look at it, you see adults, but this is NOT an adult romance. This is a young adult high school romance. Had I known this prior to reading it I most likely wouldn’t have read it because I was looking for a small town, adult romance. Either way though, I’m glad I did despite it being different than I thought because this book is so good. Another thing that should be mentioned for potential readers is that this book is NOT a standalone and there is a major cliffhanger at the end. Again, had I known this I more than likely would have skipped it because that wasn’t what I wanted but I enjoyed the heck out of it anyway. I just wanted other readers to know this before buying it and expecting one type of book and getting something completely different.
Gavin and Luna are absolutely magical together. Jordan Marie made their relationship (despite the many hardships) feel so authentic that they came alive through the pages. I wish these two could have had an easy go at first love, but their relationship was anything but this. These two had everything stacked against them and there were so many times I wanted to scream and cry because of all the crap being thrown their way.
Gavin is a boy on the wrong side of the tracks. He has an alcoholic for a father and people seem to think Gavin is going to be the same way. For this reason, Luna’s father and mother won’t let her have anything to do with him.
Luna comes from money, but she doesn’t care how different her, and Gavin’s world are. All she cares about is the chemistry and love between them. Unfortunately, the world wants to keep them apart. First, it’s Gavin’s brother Atticus who is borderline psycho and makes Gavin seem like a bad seed. Then it’s a murderer who starts killing girls with a rose calling card. Could things get worse for these two? They sure can and Jordan Marie packs punch after punch.
Readers will have to wait and see what becomes of Gavin and Luna in the next novel, When You Were Mine. I’m sure the road will be bumpy, but I have high hopes for these two! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
