The journey of the starship Pioneer continues in the fourth thrilling installment of the Forgotten Starship series.
The ship is in dire straits, deep behind enemy lines and on the verge of capture. While Tyson fights to prepare a defense, other forces work to ensure his ultimate failure as they seek to claim one of Pioneer’s few remaining secrets.
Meanwhile, Keesha and the Marines may have captured the enemy Forge, but they have no idea how to bring it under control. Searching for answers, strange echoes from within the station lead Keesha to make a dangerous decision that could cost her everything.
The fight for survival is coming to a head, and it will take all of the strength Tyson, Keesha, John, Tsi, and the passengers and crew of Pioneer can muster to endure the coming storm.
Otherwise, it won’t just mean the end of the colony…
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.
To learn more about M.R. Forbes or just say hello:
This series has expanded far beyond what we have seen in the beginning. It is incorporating far too many ideas that don't mesh well with one another. The ability to upload human consciousness into machines, turning humans into hybrids with advanced genetic editing, mind control, telekinesis, Super strength etc...
It feels like M.R. Forbes just crammed as many ideas into the series as possible.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed some of the concepts, but at this point it's just too much, any one of these things I would have enjoyed by itself, but not when it feels like it's being thrown at the reader all at once.
I also don't like how Joe has developed as a character. Once a badass marine Sargent, now what feels like an indecisive fool like Grant.
And then there is Keesha, who also was a badass marine, but now she feels like nothing more than a simple love interest for Joe. It just feels insulting for what was once such a good character.
Ultimately the series started of phenomenally well, and has been slowly decreasing in quality. As I always do I will see it till the end, but I dont have high hopes.
Must say, for the first time I was glad for a book of Mr. Forbes to come to an end. It's not author fault itself but rather mine. When a mighty enemy, just because in grand numbers, became an army of tin-foils robotic weak imbeciles...it does unsettle me greatly (That is why I hate Imperial Army Troopers). Plus the only casualties from the good side are some minor annoying characters (and I do hope they stay dead)...Well...good book, like the others before, just a little lesser.
This is my first foray into the 'Forgotten' universe and I've been enjoying it thoroughly so far - plenty of action, brutal deaths and drama.
This book however, is starting to go off track - incorporating too many ideas - example, there's Mass Effect style slowing down of time when attacking, there's pseudo-Jedi Force powers, human consciousness in android bodies, hybrids etc. For me, they do not work together. I feel very disconnected from the characters now, especially Joe, Keisha and Preslan. Preslan and Keisha are the most annoying characters. Preslan feels forced, she's at most a B-level character but she's being pushed to the forefront of the action. Keisha doesn't really add anything besides a love interest (and a stupid one at that). Joe is also written differently now, he used to be a hard ground-pounding Marine who could make decisions, now he's a pansy that behaves insanely naive and can't make a good decision. He's becoming more like Grant.
I'll finish this series but I don't hold much hope for book five.
Endure, book number 4 in the Forgotten Starship series, is very entertaining and a worthy installment to this series. I often couldn’t wait to find out happened next, reading longer than I’d planned. Only gave it four stars because it’s almost beyond believable how the hero, Guardian Joseph Cross, keeps managing to cheat death and continue on in the story. That and the plot twists were not so extreme or more easily anticipated than in previous books in the series. Still, kudos to M R Forbes for his imagination and use of advanced scientific concepts.
Another grand adventure in the forgotten universe. Love the forgotten starship series! We get to finally meet Khron and could that have been the Sheriff offering to help? Thank you MR Forbes, you can really spin out the stories! Loved it.
What a great ride with all the characters in the series! I love all these books in each of the other books in these series. I can't wait to see where the characters and the storyline goes from here!
Awesome story with amazing ideas for using the alien tech. Can't wait for the next book in the series! At least I have the Forgotten series to read while I wait.
