Welcome to my story. This story is about a journey into the world of anxiety and depression. If you are currently suffering from these conditions, then you can understand how difficult it can be to simply get up in the morning and try to live a normal life. The truth is that there are days when you just can’t, and it’s hard to make it through the day, but you try your hardest to do it. You try so hard to live a normal life. But it’s like walking around with a boulder around your neck. It’s been a long road for me. That’s why I wanted to share this book. I want others who are going through anxiety and depression to know that they are not alone; that they don’t have to suffer in silence. In fact, if you are going through this right now, I want you to know that there is nothing wrong with you. If anything, you are so brave and so strong!
This was tough for me to read as someone who is battling depression everyday is a literal struggle. Reading this was actually reassuring that yes there are people who feel the same or can even relate to some extent what I can't always put into words.
This genre is not my cup of tea so it took me for ever to actually get through it, it was eye opening to read about someone else's struggles, however I was hoping for more ideas or different ways to cope each day that differed from what I was already trying.
It was good but again not my usual genre so it was a struggle to even finish but it was interesting.
For me, this is a story calling the attention of not just those who have anxiety and depression or anyone who’s going through devastating things in life but calls up everyone. Anxiety and depression can hit up even the richest person, the most beautiful person, a physically fit person without others even knowing. In other words, it is an invisible and silent killer if it is not being treated well. As a Filipino, it is really an eye-opener especially in this era that zero-to-little number of person really takes mental health seriously. They would often say that people with depression are just overacting and overthinking but it is really not just about it. It is about to wreck someone’s life, someone’s dreams and sometimes it even caused death. We should be aware that mental health is something that we should really take care of. Meeting professionals and asking for help doesn’t mean you are crazy or you are weak or whatever they call it. I believe that the person who seeks professional help are those people who are strong enough to face their fears so that they can continue moving forward and open new doors of opportunities. Its message is that we should never invalidate others’ feelings. We have different levels of sensitivity, different fears, different coping mechanisms because we are different persons and we have different views in life. Sometimes all we need is someone who shows light in our darkest days. Someone who you can talk to and someone you can trust for it is a way of allowing yourself to be open your vulnerable side to someone that will not judge you whatever the circumstances are. This work is really relevant especially at this times where others break down and stumble because of pandemic. This is a bright light and eye-opener that no man is an island. We need someone to be our shoulder to lean on and a support system in our life. We can just see the façade of a person and not his or her story and the best thing we do is to fill our hearts with love and empathy. I really learned a lot. I love this book.
HELLO ... GOODBYE is a brave, sincere recovery journey from depression by Dr. Magdy Hussein.
Dr. Hussein starts by describing a very normal workday for him and how it quickly escalated to something he had never foreseen: major depressive disorder. He then takes us through his journey and describes how he tried to find answers to questions that even physicians couldn't answer. He went to great measures to confront his fears, consult others, and find solutions.
It is motivating to share one's recovery journey because everyone has dealt with depression in one way or the other. Moreover, Dr. Hussein's story gives people hope. No matter where you are in life, there is always hope. Surrounding yourself with the people who are willing to take your hand through every step is one of the major he keeps touching upon throughout the book.
Lastly, I admire the writer's courage in confronting his fears, reaching out for guidance, recovering from depression, and eventually writing this book to break the stigma of mental health disorders.
Thank you Booktasters for providing me a copy from the author to read and review.
