The Seven Types of Spirit Guide: How to Connect and Communicate with Your Cosmic Helpers

Rate this book
Discover the different types of spirit guides, how to communicate and work with them, and how they can help you in every facet of life--from your personal goals to your business dreams.

Discover which of the seven types of spirit guides is watching over you and how you can use their help to achieve your dreams.

The Seven Types of Spirit Guides explores the specific characteristics, gifts, and challenges that each type of guide brings. Starting with a quiz to discover their type of spirit guide, readers will then learn how to communicate with their spirit guides to work through any challenges--be it healing ancestral trauma, growing their business soulfully, or living a life with purpose.
This is the first-ever exploration of seven different kinds of cosmic helpers that have communicated with shamans, mediums, priests, and everyday people across cultures and throughout human history. This refreshing guide reveals that the key to success lies in adapting (not appropriating) the proven techniques developed by other spirit communicators around the world.
This book is unique in that it not only answers the question of what spirit guides are but helps the reader identify their very own team of guides. Best of all, it reassures the reader that they don't need to be a shaman, witch, priest, or other professional spirit worker, nor have any special abilities to connect with their guides. All they need is an open mind.

Reading this book with an open mind, but there were a few times where the author tells stories that don’t seem to line up with previous versions, timelines, etc. It made me question the credibility of the whole book. So here we are.

This book is great for beginners, it's not too technical with the different guides and ways to connect, and does hold nuggets of wisdom and insight for those who have been on this path a while. The author does deliver on her word for sharing the seven types of Spirit guides within depth knowledge. However I found it interesting that she had a personal experience for each of these categories when many times we may be close to a few. Though we may have heard of the different guides, it did not feel genuine when reading it.

There are personal accounts that I found short and pertained to the topic at hand. For a person who has been on their path a while, I do not see this as a reference book I would pull and refresh on frequently. I was able to write down some keynotes of research and rabbit holes I will want to follow after this book.

I enjoyed the heart of this book because it was really informative and what I needed but the beginning and the end are full of her personal experiences on every other page and it just felt like someone was telling me a long store and over sharing.

This book is a simple, straightforward, easy read - and that's a good thing for this topic! It's not a deep dive on spirits, channeling, mediumship or psychic development. It's an overview of the different types of spirit guides, good for beginners and also offering clarification and validation to those finally acknowledging or opening up to their mediumship abilities.

In section one the author outlines and explains seven types of Spirit guides: deities, ancestors, animal guides, nature spirits, star beings, angels, and ascended masters. For each category of spirit being she relates a personal experience and gives a description (characteristics, cultural/historical context, etc.). She explains what it's like to work with each type - the gifts and possible challenges of working with them. I appreciate that she also addresses the issue of evil/low-vibration/trickster spirits as some other spiritual teachers and authors either ignore this risk or minimize it. She encourages the reader to use discernment and develop relationships with spirit guides slowly.

In section two she writes about how to connect with your guides, potential obstacles to connecting with your guides, how guides communicate with us (including an overview of the "clairs"), and basic tools for developing your connection with your guides (intention setting, meditation, prayer, etc.). She also offers a ceremony for connecting with your guides, if you haven't already.

If you are new to spirit guides/mediumship/channeling this is a good resource. Like the author, I have had experiences with spirit beings off and on my whole life, so it was helpful to hear her personal encounters. This book offers a sense of reassurance and validation as well as practical information.

Very well written overview of what spirit guides can mean to you and how they are available for making the world a better place. The author shares her POV to illustrate how her trauma (for example) was overcome once she was able to get into a spiritual practice that allows for focusing more on the future.

This is a no from me

I was very excited to read this book, based on Yamiles story about her spirit guide meeting at the beginning, but it honestly went downhill from there.

There is so much ego in this book, and it is heavily influenced by the beliefs of the author.

For instance, the first guides she talks about are Deity's, and she tells you they can help you have confidence in yourself, and become more of a leader (which makes sense and is good advice so far) but then she goes on to explain that they demand to be worshipped, can possess you, and can cause you to become a megalomaniac with the desire to "live forever" if your not careful. 😲 This is most definitely not my experience. I have been assisted by a few Deitys in the past, and not once have they demanded to be worshipped, or tried to possess me, and I certainly don't have a burning desire to live forever.

She then goes on to talk about the next guide, Ancestors, and how they can assist us in understanding and working through our family issues and things that may have originated in our ancestral line. (She calls this "The Pod.")

With the Ancestors she talks about the positive things, and then talks about how our ancestors want us to keep our line "pure" and then talks about the "bad spirits" such as rapists and murderers etc. in our family line, and how we have contracted ourselves into dealing with the issues and bad karma from them out of the graciousness of our hearts.....

Umm no. That is not what happens. First of all, we have all lived many lifetimes, and not all of those have been good. If we have karma coming up from ancestors its not coming up simply because its part of your ancestral line. Its coming up because you are that ancestor in a previous life. We don't pay other peoples Karma. We pay our own karma even if we don't remember living that lifetime.

Secondly, and most importantly, Yamile has a very puritanical view on spirituality, ancestors and our connection with our guides. She thinks we should only be connecting with guides of our family and cultural line. She believes that we can learn from other cultures and their spiritual traditions, but she proclaims MANY times in the book how we need to be careful of cultural appropriation.....umm I don't know about others, but in my experience with guides and spirits they do not care about cultural appropriation. They see us all as One.

I have had Native American guides tell me to follow their practices at times, and I am not Native American. I have been helped by Egyptian Gods more than once, and drawn to Egyptian symbols, images, music sounds etc. And I am not Egyptian. I have A Hindi God and a Lyran man that have been with me for a while now just helping to bring comfort into my life, and I am not Hindi or Lyran, and yet they still came to me and decided to help me and be a part of my life even though I didn't ask them to. Why? Because we are all connected. There is no such thing as cultural appropriation from spirits perspective because we are not separate. It is very much a low vibrational belief to think that we are separate and need to continue to be separate based on culture. That is a fear based belief, and doesn't fly with my soul at all.

I have even had parts of my soul from other lifetimes come through and tell me "I'm not a part of you, I am you." When I was talking about a particular lifetime I've had.

Nobody. Not one of us has been incarnated in one cultural line only. Every single one of us has incarnated in different cultures throughout our existence. We have learned so much from those experiences. We wouldn't be who we are today without them, and all the good, bad and ugly things we did and went through. So, if you are drawn to other cultures and their spiritual traditions then its probably because it feels like home. Its natural to you because you have lived it in at least one previous lifetime. My advice is to honor that and honor your soul, because you know what is right for you. Your soul will pull you towards what is in your highest and best interests, and the highest and best good of all. 💜

The seven types of spirit guides is a powerful, insightful and immensely captivating book that explores the vast world of spirit guides. This book decodes and demystifies some of the long held misconceptions and misinformation about our perspective towards this concept.

Yamile Yemoonyah begins this profound journey by firstly giving us a glimpse of her life when she wasn't on his path, her sudden yet eye-opening encounter with one of her spirit guides and the pathway she chose to guide others. She has put emphasis on letting go of limiting beliefs and impositions of mind to become more open minded to perceive the intake of new knowledge and experiences.

The extensive and in-depth knowledge of the seven types of spirit guides are profoundly explored. Delving into their unique characteristics and other significant traits, she gave us descriptions and explanations that were truly eye-opening. The six types of clairs and experiences of ceremony as well as guidance on how to prepare and perform them are also conveyed.

This book in all its entirety and vividness was an absolutely incredible reading experience that not only gave me plenty of insights and knowledge but also immensely provided a sense of understanding and peace. I now have a clear understanding of which path to choose. I will forever be grateful to Yamile Yemoonyah for writing this book that I know will change the lives of individuals who are trying to navigate the world of understanding cosmic helpers.

I really like Yamile, and have been lucky enough to get a mini reading from her, which was pretty transformative. This book definitely demystifies the concept of spirits in layman's terms, although didn't leave me feeling confident that I could connect with mine so easily, but again, it could be due to my limiting beliefs about what is possible for me spiritually. I do love the idea that we are all lightworkers, and what Yamile calls "spiritual activists" though.

Good information

I listened to this book while walking around my neighborhood. The book added to the walk because I was able to focus on it. I returned to my home and went through the quiz to determine which spirit guides I work with. Hint: make sure you note the top three of them. Later I went back through all descriptions of the guides I worked with. I enjoyed learning about all the guides and taking the quiz to find who my guides are.

As for the meditation to talk to my guides I will have to do it later. There is a lot of construction around me. Other than the meditation which I agree with the author when they talk about proper preparation being required. I’ve done many Shamonic and they all require preparation.

I was fortunate to do a course/workshop by Yamile where she taught us about Spirit Guides. Quite some time after I was delighted to hear that she had a book out because from the course, I really couldn't think of anyone better to share their knowledge with the world.

I purchased this book when it popped through in meditation one day! It was fantastic to refresh my knowledge and I was able to learn some new things.

This book is perfect for beginners who want to learn about the different spirit guides, how to connect with their own as well as those who want to expand their knowledge a bit. Yamile brings a fresh take to the world of guides!

The different kinds of spirit guides

The different kinds of spirit guides, including angels, a person can have are explored. Of course, everyone has a guardian angel , a chief guide in life and several lesser guides, or as I have read in other books. our ancestors, or relatives we have known in this life, also can be guides, and often are. so can friends who have passed away. This author failed to point this out. However, he also describes ceremonies a person can enact to encourage contact with our angel and guides. An interesting book.

You are not alone

I liked the quiz. It confirmed what I’ve suspected.
The quiz leads into the book and the archetype of the different guides.

The book describes 7 types of guides. Their traits, how they communicate, and how to connect with them. I thought the information was helpful and interesting.

I appreciate learning more about the different spirit guides there can be. While the author touches on cultural appropriation; I felt like more care and time could have been spent on it. And I felt there could have been more nuance when it came to distinguishing mental illness and hearing from your guides.

I appreciate the categorisation of guides. However, this could have been a blog post since the rest is a repetitive fluff and personal stories, sometimes with questionable connection to the main topic. I basically skipped and skimmed most of the book. I did find couple of nice thoughts there, though. Maybe I am not in the right age group that the book targets.

For a beginner, this is an excellent book. It's a book I wasn't sure I needed, but nevertheless stumbled upon it and am glad I did. If you are more advanced this book might not be for you, but it is a good resource that helps lay the foundation in which to start working with your spirit guides.
