Moving to Peach Tree, all Lane wants is security for his little girl, Nola, and his grandmother, nothing more. But how can he resist his hot, arrogant neighbor with a cute dog. Joss has secrets and scars, and he's in Peach Tree to do a job, not get involved. Lane is part of that job and that's why he has to stay close, but not too close. That's not easy as Lane keeps stirring up feelings that are a lot more than attraction. If he doesn't keep his distance, Lane will figure him out. Lane can't afford to open up to anyone, but Joss is irresistible and he keeps getting pulled in. Both men are playing with fire, but as their secrets come out, it's Joss who has to convince Lane that he's not in danger. When Joss is proved wrong, their whole world might be torn apart.
When picking this book up via Kindle Unlimited, I was unaware that it was book 5 in a series and that the secondary characters from previous books would infiltrate so many scenes. It really felt like I was missing several key pieces. The storyline had a solid concept but the execution felt weak. The quality of writing fits better with early self-pub authors than established pub house authors. Many typos were noticed while reading. I'd highly recommend the series be read in order for maximum enjoyment.
Joss and Lane's story was the most intense and heartbreaking. Not only Lane that was grieving but also Joss but he did in secret until he finally told Lane the whole truth.
Lane's sister and her husband were lawyers representing a weapons dealer then they were killed under the protection of Joss' father and his team at that time. They were killed because of Joss' father. Joss got kidnapped by the gun smugglers and being tortured. In exchange of Joss' life, Joss' father revealed their location.
Joss' life after the kidnapping was far from happy. His father quit his job, drinking and sinking into depression until he got killed in a car crashed. In hid death bed, Joss' father told the truth since then Joss felt responsible for what happened to Lane and decided to be protect him at all cost.
There was a twist in this story, the shooting happened wasn't targeted Lane but Joss. The culprit was a woman. Her brother was on the witness protection team and he died alongside Lane's sister and her husband and she thought Joss' father and Joss himself were responsible for her brother death but it just a misunderstanding on her part.
It wasn't easy for Lane to forget all the lies Joss have told but he was ready to forgive him if only Joss stop blamed himself for what had happened.

Joss is undercover unknown to Lane and his family. Joss is going by Craig so that no one knows who he actually is. The only problem is he falls for Lane. This was absolutely wonderful and Nola Lane's daughter was a sweetheart. I kept laughing every time she was chasing somebody with a bug especially her daddy.
There were secrets kept on both sides but I was actually the most shocked at Joss' secret of who he actually was. I did not see that coming and Trina definitely kept that one hidden. I can't wait for more this series to come and as always there was a happy ending. Plus Seth and Theo got married plus adopted a dog.
Another amazing book in the peach tree series. I was so happy to see familiar faces in it. The story had me on edge and wanting to know what was next were everyone gonna be ok. This is a must read.
