To put it succinctly, the poet Jon Ferry is a contrarian.
He resists what he views as the collective narratives in/by which we operate, whether those be in the realm of politics, philosophy, nature . . . even prosody. This contrariness is what makes reading his poems . . . well . . . fun. And instructive. In patterns and forms that harken to the age of Restoration, to the likes of Dryden and Pope, he challenges me (much more a fan of Romantic poetry and then of free verse) to consider alternate narratives which he interestingly argues are silenced by consensus that is enforced in what he critically labels in his Foreword to his third book of poetry, Puzzled, the ‘Information Age.’
He continues his resistance to the current gestalt in his newest collection, Cracked. As I read the poems, I am reminded of all I’ve forgotten from my university days in poetry classes—unbounded quatrains, heroic couplets, tercets. Ferry reminds me that poetry, no matter its various forms and schemes, exists to open us up so we get rattled. Or maybe it’s to rattle us so we get opened up. Either way, his poems are a good exercise and read.

Jon Ferry wants unbridled truth in writing and poetry. His background gives him the qualifications of being able to "sift" through the detritus for that truth.
Jon has seen the world like a lot of us haven't. It gives him a different and enlightening perceptive.
Nature is interwoven throughout his four books of poetry. You'll find a wandering crow in "Clean-up Crow" and a bugling elk in "Sounds of Kindness" with more awaiting your discovery.
Jon Ferry is a very dedicated poet who deserves your attention.
