With Hope in Your Heart: The Seán Cox Story

Rate this book
A remarkable story of turning heartbreak into hope .

Life as we know it can change in an instant, in the blink of an eye. And it did for Martina Cox and her family in 2018. On an ordinary day in April of that year, Seán Cox traveled to Anfield to watch his beloved Liverpool play. But he never made it to the match. A vicious, unprovoked attack left him with a severe brain injury, unable to walk or talk.

Here, Martina tells their remarkable story. It is a story of inner strength and determination, of dedication and commitment. By not taking no for an answer and with the help of their family, their community, the Liverpool spirit, and tens of thousands of people across the world who were touched by Seán’s story, they have achieved what was thought to be impossible.

With Hope in Your Heart brings Seán’s story right to the present day, as he moved back to his family home for the first time in two years just as the coronavirus lockdown took hold. At its heart, this is a love story – the kind of love that conquers all. The book includes a foreword by Jürgen Klopp.

I vividly remember listening to this story on the news when Sean’s injury and recovery journey began.....24/4/2018. I was in 2nd year of secondary school, looking forward to a school trip to Belfast, and loving life. When I heard this story, I felt sorry for those involved in the tragic accident.
When I saw this book in the shop, I was in 5th year of secondary school, worrying about my studies and COVID, but still I was living life to the fullest. Taking anything for granted.
This story is a page-turner, giving away a synopsis of how their family coped with the accident, whilst believing it could have happened to anyone. But they have hope, Hope in their hearts that they’d get back to some sort of normality, and they did, whilst everyone else was experiencing unusual days in lockdown. What an inspiration read.
If you feel as if you’re not grateful for things in life, this book will truly teach you a lesson. Read it.

What an inspiration the Cox family are. Truly amazing and remaining positive despite the awful crime that happened against Sean. As a Liverpool fan this book had me in tears at times. This was a really interesting book which I could not put down. I would thoroughly recommend this book and I wish the family all the best as they continue to support Sean . Thank you for sharing your story.
