DESIRE FOR TOUCH, BLISS, ECSTASY HAVE BEEN PERMANENTLY UNPUBLISHED. They have been replaced by RIVERHART: Ben&Avia's Story which is the origin of all my books and characters.
ON HIS KNEES is available again as a stand-alone in the RIVERHART ORIGINS series, and also is PART ONE one of MATCHSTICK MEN: BOOK ONE OF HUNT&CAM4eVER 8-book epic mm bdsm love story
Outstanding - layers and layers of angst, emotion, thoughts and actions. Took me a while to fall into the flow. This was unexpected and clever. Truly I hope for another book. After this ending I really need a glimpse into the future.
Hi, there. I opened a spoiler group on FB today. I'm going to blog this but thought some here might like to talk. Or yell at me, apparently. Its here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/32984...
Honesty, I was worried when a read a few of the early reviews about the ending of this lastest tale of my all time favourite m/m couple; so much so that I contemplated not reading it at all!
Yup, I'm that much of a wuss. But, having devoured all the books in the series to date and believing that ultimately, the strength of their love would guide us all to the end unscathed, I gave myself a good talking to and swiped to the first page.
The nitty-gritty of the murder investigation was resolved cleverly as expected, assisted by the usual team of characters; but our 2 heros take more than a few punches to their psyche's and if you blink it would be easy to miss the build up to the inevitable breakdown.
Unlike other reviewers, I find it difficult to assign blame one way or the other as I love both Cam and Hunt in equal measures and they were both in pain; it was the words in the song gifted by Cam to Hunt at the end 'I'll Be Waiting' that finally had me ugly crying into my pillow at 2.30 in the morning (there's my inner wuss making itself known again!)
Read the book, I'm glad I did. Life's a b***h sometimes, but a bit of angst never killed anyone (although Hunt might tell it differently!) and love's a powerful healer.
Wow, BDSM goodness with an excellent investigative storyline and a wonderful cast of side characters. I wish I had reviewed this after reading it, instead of a year later, but this book has stayed with me this long and deserves more than just the 5 star rating. It deserves all the words, all the praise. The BDSM scenes are interesting, inventive and sexy. The stand out is how well the relationship, the sexy times and the case investigation work are so seamlessly written. I was engaged at all times with all of the books, the flow is fantastic and book after book stayed interesting and fresh. I loved the sexy/at home scenes with just Cam and Hunter but I also loved the scenes when Hunter was with his work team. The writing is stellar, I was immersed into this world and didn’t want to come back out.
I've been so excited for this book since I saw it available for pre-order. I've never read anything quite like Hunt and Cam and they've earned the title of my favorite couple… ever.
I was so happy to be back after the honeymoon. That was traumatic and after everything they've been through - there has to be some consequences. Or maybe that's just my therapy brain talking. These two being it out in me.
Cam and the punching bag. Hunt and the art show. Ahhh, I teared up. These two try to dance around the important feelings too much. Lots of cuddles and the impending doom of never assume.
My heart bleeds for Cam having to continually accept what he cannot. The only way I made it through is Adira's promise of Hunt and Cam forever.
I held my breath while the case was unfolding. Praying it didn't break these two. And then Twee and Mike showed up and I couldn't stop smiling. And then back to holding my breath, but it was so worth it. Case gets solved. Wonderful moment with Cam soothing someone else as a Dom.
And then we're back to breaking my heart. And Cam's heart. I feel like Hunt's heart has been broken for a while.
I truly appreciated the psychiatrist point of view - huge fan of therapy.
I was totally captivated by this couple, the writing, the different layers & dynamics. I can't pick a favorite scene.
As long as it's Hunt and Cam forever... I'm there.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love Hunt and Cam. That's a given, considering this is Book 7, and I'm still reading them and wanting more. I am not usually a fan of a series focused on one couple, but Adira August writes such amazing mysteries that I am drawn in from the first sentence, and as the story unfolds, so do Hunt and Cam. And Meresi, and Twee, and the rest of the cast. Adira weaves the BDSM into the story...or perhaps the characters do...so it's omnipresent and as much a part of these men as their hair and eye color. In Shadow Men, Addi, Hunt and Cam have outdone themselves. I gave up trying to figure out who did what to whom before I got halfway through. Instead, I just buckled up and enjoyed the ride. You should not try to read this book as a standalone. You should start with the first book and pray that by the time you get to the end of this one that the next one is published, because the only way to get over a Hunt&Cam4ever hangover is with the next book.
I love Hunt and Cam so much that I hesitated even reading this book. I wanted them to enjoy their wedded bliss forever and ever. The author's description of this book as "The hardest book I ever wrote" had me worried. Without giving any spoilers, let's just say that I am anxious to read the next book ASAP.
4.5 Lots of feels with this one.. The story starts of in Hawaii in 2017 in casting call. Hunt with the help of Cam give them demos of a Dom and Sub work for the actors behaviors. Hott sexy scenes, twists and surprises included. This is best read in order for the character storylines. So much happens in this and its full of emotions as the story progresses. The ending is a doozy you wont wanta miss this if you've followed this series. I loved some of the previous books and this is another great one. Benedict Hart was getting ready for a production at 27 he could do anything since being a millionaire.
Shadow Men is the 7th Hunt&Cam4Ever book in a series I have been in love with from the very first chapter in the very first book. And if I adore the stories, I’m even deeper in love with these two wonderful, strong, gorgeous, complicated, and incredibly sexy men. Right from the start the dynamic between Cameron and Hunter fascinated me. The way they developed both separately and together was at least as intriguing as the mysteries they solved together. Both murder and romance had and have me on the edge of my seat. As far as their relationship is concerned, I’m more on edge now than I’ve been at any point during their story.
This story then. It should have been their honeymoon and, five days into their marriage, everything is not all sweet and easy love. How could it be given who Cam and Hunter are? But, their honeymoon is supposed to give them the opportunity to learn about each other, to smooth out a few ruffles. Until billionaire Domenic Hart strong-arms them into investigating a mysterious death on board his luxury yacht.
The mystery, as always, was flawlessly plotted, full of twists and turns. The setting means this is a traditional mystery with a limited number of suspects almost with a locked room atmosphere. The possible motives appear and are dispelled until only one solution remains. So far so fabulous but also, more or less, straight forward.
Not so straight forward is the effect of the investigation on Cam, on Hunt, and on their relationship. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what about the way they were together bothered me, but I read their interactions with a growing sense of discomfort, hoping against hope I was wrong. Except that I wasn’t. I can’t say anything else, but the way this story ended scared and all but broke me, just as it all but broke Cam and Hunt. Both the plotting and pacing were just about perfectly executed, keeping me rooted in the story, pushing me from page to page with my heart in my mouth and tension coursing through my body.
Not that it was all heavy, ominous, and heart breaking. Far from it. In fact, there’s something about married Hunter and Cameron that reminds me of Eve and Roarke in the In Death books. And I mean that in the best possible way. It has to do with learning how to be together when it is forever or, in Eve’s terms’ learning the marriage rules’. And while neither of them has done it before, it appears to be Cam who’s finding their new way of being together harder than Hunter.
Of course, the (sex) scenes in this story are intense, hot, and just as unforgettable as the two main characters are. But, while I enjoy those scenes, they are not my main reason for reading this series. What has me hooked is the combination of intriguing mysteries and two equally intriguing characters. Over eight books, Cameron and Hunter have become a part of my life. I think of them as real people, two guys I might meet some day. They’ve gotten under my skin and I suspect and hope they’ll continue to live there.
Tomorrow Hunt&Cam4Ever book 8 releases. The author warns readers to NOT read book eight unless they’ve read #7. When I saw that I rolled my eyes. I mean, who would want to read a series of books out of order anyway? But, while breaking that rule may mean a reader gets less enjoyment out of a story than they would have done with knowledge of the full preceding story, situations in which a sequel should not be touched under any circumstances without familiarity of what happened before are few and far between. In this case however, I fully agree with Adira August. I strongly advice anybody who hasn’t read the Hunt & Cam stories yet to start with the first book and work their way through this series in the correct order. But, as the author says, whatever you do DO NOT READ FOREVER UNTIL YOU’VE FINISHED SHADOW MEN. I have no way of knowing what will happen in the next book, but the ending of this book indicates that it will be very emotional as well as the culmination of everything we think we know about these two men and everything we still need to learn. Needless to say, I’ve got my copy pre-ordered.
Note: This is the 7th book in this series, and as such, it won’t work as a stand alone too well. Reading the series in order really is required to understand the dynamic of this couple and of the team that Hunter Dane leads. Major spoilers for all pasts books in this one as well as this review 🙂
Cam and Hunt have returned from what was supposed to be their honeymoon – but which turned into a murder mystery topped off with a natural disaster of a killer flood that required Hunt to take charge and basically save everyone. Not the most relaxing trip 🙂 They both are OK physically, but within a couple days of coming home, there is another crisis that requires their help.
Ben Hart, billionaire fiance of Hunter’s good friend Avia has a situation on his hands and he needs Hunter’s help. There’s a dead body and a ship at see with passengers – including what might be a murderer. Hart is desperate to determine what happened and how to handle the situation and therefore, he’s desperate for Hunter’s assistance. But Hunt and Cam are still on their honeymoon – just at home 🙂 They are working through some stuff that happened on the aborted trip and trying to figure out some things in their new relationship as husbands. Now is not the time. But Hart’s plea and Cam’s acquiescence convince Hunt to agree to this crazy plan.
Despite having given the team the week off because Hart and Cam are going to be away, they show up right on time to investigate. The players – both known and unknown to Hunt – are and odd mix of people. Hunt’s pretty sure he knows who isn’t the killer – but he’s still got a list of suspects. There are a lot of wildcards in this deck though, so he’s got to play it very carefully to get to the bottom of what really happened on that boat. Hart’s team, whom we’ve met in previous books, are there to assist and take some of the worry off of Hart and Cam. But even after they learn what happens, they are not in the clear.
So I didn’t think I could love this couple more. I was wrong. My hearts was hurting so much with this book. And this one is a bit of a sad story in more ways than one. I guess most stories involving the death of someone young is sad. Cam says at one point
Why does it all have to be so sad? The life the killers live, wasted. The life the victims don’t get to live, wasted.
This quote and the timing of it, are pivotal to this story. Just brilliant. While the death in this story is not as gruesome as many of Hunt’s cases, there are other circumstances surrounding the ship and the passengers that hit a little too close to home for Cam and Hunt. There are things that they are equipped to handle and things that they aren’t. Merisi, Hunt’s hand-picked detective and Twee, their continually surprising and amazing CSI tech, provide so much support on this one – and not just on the case. Merisi is really coming into his own and Twee is her usual brilliant self. I love these two more with each successive story. Of course they solve the case, but it’s what comes after that is the biggest surprise of this book. I have no idea what is ahead for Hunt and Cam, but I am waiting with bated breath to find out. I sure hope the next book is coming soon because this was a painful way to end this one. But absolutely brilliant! I highly recommend this whole series. The dynamic between these two is like nothing else I’ve ever read and I cannot get enough.
There are some couples I respect. Like? Adore? Some couples who don't just make me think "yes, this is what a perfect relationship looks like" (or it should). When you realize you have two people who are absolutely stunning and perfect only because they are not and it's the "flaws" that make them into "real" human examples of perfection and that together... you just lose words. Is that the definition of a power couple? Because if it's not, it should be.
Cam and Hunter are close to, if not already in that exclusive club of my own making and in my head. I would even go as far as to bestow one of the highest honour and compare them to my... pretty much most powerful OTP, I guess. I am talking about you, Kate and Curran and who knows me will not be surprised. It was actually a very specific scene (I liked to a different specific scene from Kate) and what it came out of it was this amazing realization of an everlasting conflict that is a natural part of both these relationships. Without going for spoilers (hopefully) there comes a point in both series were the MC's are presented and challenged with this idea of their needs and characters being, in a way, in absolute conflict. In Kate (because that's less spoiler-ish, right? if it's for other book?) you have this shouting, rock-throwing scene where Curran accuses Kate she has not adapted to a relationship because she would still solve some problems by herself instead of turning for help. More specifically, he said she would put her "duty" before their love and would sacrifice her life if it meant he would live and that willingness to "sacrifice" their relationship in the name of what she considers a "greater good" drove him insane. I did think, at that moment, such conflict is simply too huge and wth is supposed to happen now?! Guess what? That somehow happened in here. And it did have the same solution, which I hope you don't mind revealing: It is not that they love each other despite these (arguably) noble intentions, it's because of them. It's because they are exactly who they are and it is the whole package, not just their parts, that make their loved ones perfect. And I could definitely to agree more.
This is just one issue and example but it should simply demonstrate what is amazing about an otherwise kinky-naked-times gay detective stor(ies). Creating characters is hard. This series is not perfect. But the couple, the MC's? Their relationship? Make this an A class book.
And of course we have the benefit of seeing them evolve and go through stuff and learn and get better and go deeper and gosh, it is a higher reward, following one story for some time, isn't it? One book can give you a lot but seeing people practically transform? That is some powerful shirt.
The end? As other indicated, it's not exactly ideal but at the same time, it's more like a hopeful cliffhanger because it mostly makes you want the next book and want it preferably yesterday. Though it puts a lot of things in a different perspective, it also makes it more interesting.
The investigation was a good one though it might feel a little like those TV serial tropes where you find that special dirt that can only be found in 3 places in the entire universe or what - like the author had to go hunt for some kind of special circumstances and it's very obvious.
I will rate this with 4 stars because while I was not as engaged as I wanted to, it was partly my fault and I did like a big part of the book and was getting emotional near the end.
About a quarter through this novel i was thinking the title should have been Awakening. We began to see a new understanding between the guys, less focus on the erotica but much, much more on love, a blinding all consuming love, one that just wants to be........ the past year has been really, really intense, the original dynamics of the relationship have changed, morphing into a beautiful love story.
This ever evolving love story of Hunt & Cam is like the sun brightening up a dull cloudy day, its scorching but so very very much worth it.
Due to their honeymoon been anything but what they anticipated the guys take time at home to just really get to know one another now as a married couple. Unfortunately once again death intrudes. Enter stage right...... Ben Hart, Ben demands and yeah it basically was a demand, well it was insinuations of blackmail and attempts of coercion of guilt around Hunts friendship with Avia that has the guys dragged into a murder investigation. It was sooo annoying, can we not just give the guys a breather, they just got married!!!!!!
Nope murder is never convenient, however we have a team of highly skilled specialists ready to fight the good fight. It might be a bit of a mess trying to establish the actual legal jurisdiction around this murder and in this case not using totally orthodox methods but hey, they will find the answers.
I could almost feel, further changes in the dynamics of the guys but couldn't quite put my finger on the direction we were heading.
Then...... BAM !!!!!!!
Blooming heck I couldn't read for the tears, my heart was racing, panicking, I kept checking what percentage I was on and estimating how the story was gona play out based on how long I had left to read. My flipping stress level must have been in the 1000's, never mind the 100's.
Love.......Love gives us hope, even in the deepest depths of despair.
Love is the glue the binds us together............so until next time ...............I'll be waiting
I really, really love these guys...and maybe even more after finishing this book.
Hunt and Cam are trying to recover their equilibrium after the disastrous events that interrupted their honeymoon - which includes being whisked away by Ben Hart to his castle-retreat. Neither Hunt nor Cam feel ready to face the real world - or each other. However when a blackmailer surfaces, followed by a grisly murder, both men must focus on the threat to them and their friends.
It’s a five-star story that gets bumped to four because of the whiplash I got trying to follow the various flashbacks, segues, and reflective memories. I couldn’t keep the timeline straight, so I just went with it, and ignored everything except the murder mystery. And that worked out OK.
Except for that pesky and annoying change in POV. Hunter speaks in first person; when it’s Cam’s turn, it switches to third person. I’m not sure why the author does this - it doesn’t help me relate to the characters, and it doesn’t help tell the story.
But regardless..I’m even more in love with these guys than ever.
When I read the Author said this was the hardest book she'd ever written, I was apprehensive, as I feared a bad outcome. As a big fan of the HuntAndCam series, it gave me pause, but I'm glad I followed through. I'm also glad there will be more books in this series. As to the story, it's primarily about a suspected homicide aboard a billionaire's yacht out at sea, and he asks Hunt and Cam to figure out what happened and resolve it so that there are no repercussions against him. It involves interesting characters, mystery, and for me, a learning curve on ships at sea and how they and on-board incidents are handled in international waters with various jurisdictions. Turns out, it's also about deeply personal issues affecting the two main characters which they are confronted with unexpectedly. I highly recommend this book and the entire intelligently written series. It will definitely hold your interest.
I love Cam and Hunt both as a couple and when they are working a case together. I had to go back and read the first 6 books in the series before I read this one. This book takes the characters to an even deeper level and peels away more layers of their evolving relationship. To say the ending to this one was a shock is a mild understatement. However, I absolutely love the real life feel to it. Couples have ups and downs and argue and we see this throughout the series, but in this book we see the first major hurtle for Cam and Hunt in their relationship. After reading this, I am very interested to see what the next book will show us. I’m so glad I had an opportunity to really take my time reading through the series before reading this latest book. The author has shown significant growth with increasingly deep plots and furthering character development.
I love Hunt & Cam. I can’t get enough of them. The way this book closed hit me like a slap in the face. It was too abrupt for me. I need book 9 asap. There wasn’t much alone time for the pair which I found unsettling. It was palpable and I realise now something was about to snap. I do hope Adira brings out book 9 in the 4ever series next and not the investigation series of books. Whilst I enjoyed The Interrogation there wasn’t enough of their relationship, emotions and no sensuality in it. Fans need the next book to be released to continue in the 4ever vane, with or without any BDSM, to give us hope for their future. At the moment I feel a little lost and rudderless. It’s no wonder Adira has said this book took a lot out of her.
This is (so far) the book that had me emotionally - I sat feeling stunned at the end, working out my feelings. Hunt and Cam are written so well and their relationship is so beautiful that I want to actually be friends with them (although I am sure if they were real and I met them I would be speechless and dorky and they would be very polite and escape as soon as they could).
I loved this book, loved the mystery and loved the fact that it was outside some of the police restrictions. The characters were believable and I love Twee!!
I am waiting (as usual) for the next one very impatiently. I can’t wait to see Hunt and Cam’s relationship continue to grow.
This one I had a bit of mixed feelings about. I didn't really like the investigational part, didn't like Ben. In this one Hunt makes an argument, that seeing what kind of production Ben is leading he should have expected the actors to secretly be interested into BDSM. That led to a thought I had: why are so many people in this book into BDSM? I get it in the club, of course. But a random new colleague? And random people they meet? It's a phenomenon I see in quite a few MM books: suddenly 80 % of the characters in the book are LQBTQIA+, even the best friend that had been straight for 25 years. What I did love about this (even though I might be the only one): the ending.
Cam gets to me every. Single. Freaking. Time.... He leavers me as breathless as he does Hunter... This book is amazing, so many things come together and so many twists..solving the mystery is always a surprise, I never see the twist coming. But, the love that these two men have for each other brings me to my kness... I will say this again, this is a series that must be read, it's my favorite and I reread it often and enjoy it as much as I did the first time.. An absolute must read!!!!!
Another great addition to Cam and Hunt story though not something I expected. I was looking forward to a happily married couple but instead the book brought to light some unexpected challenges to face. Neverending investigations and long buried fears and pain finally got to Hunt and Cam missed it. It won't be easy to come out from it but they are still in love and together and thus they'll find a way. Looking forward to the next book and hope it will be more focused on Cam and Hunt relationships, I won't mind if mystery is put aside for a while.
This was amazingly fantastic! There was so much love in this story!! This was my first story by this author, I’m going to start at the beginning and read them all. I think I would have gotten so much more out of it. This story kept me “captivated” that is the only way I can describe it!! I was hooked from the beginning. I cannot say how much I loved it!! Thy mystery, suspense, it felt so realistic. I so very highly recommend!! I am voluntarily leaving a review form an ARC that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Oh my word, I can't believe this book! If you have followed this couple and other characters in this series, this is a must read but be prepared. If you can see the ending coming, you are doing much better than I did and I kind of wish I had waited until the next volume was out just so I would not have to wait to see what happens next. Wouldn't have missed it for the world, though, lol. Don't think I've had this much fun being surprised since I was a teenager reading Agatha Christie and John Dickson Carr for the first time. Do not miss this series!!!!
This series has been high emotion and intense all the way through, but this book had such a sense of hollowness and grief that it was emotionally wrenching. There are so many hurt souls left broken at the end of this novel that it seems to me it will take a miracle to piece them all back together. But I have faith in Adira August and her ability to pull off that miracle down the road. Her writing as always is superb. You will not be disappointed with this addition to Hunter and Cam’s story.
I highly recommend you start with book one in this series. If you love amazing character development , hot men and mysteries you will love these books. The relationship between Hunt and Cam is complicated and beautiful. Most of the series has BDSM elements which makes the story even more enjoyable for me. Adira August thank you so much for the guys. I'll be waiting impatiently for book 8. ❤❤❤
Book 7 has a half open ending (relationship wise) and I'm glad for that because this series is an ongoing investigation for Cam and Hunter in each other and themself. I didn't see the ending coming the way it did so it came like a shock. The author has a good writingstyle that will suck a reader into the book. And ends up crying while reading it...
Please read book 1 because it will make more sense.
Can't wait for more books of the team and ofcourse the main characters.
This was another great read. The author said it was emotional to write. Well, it was emotional to read as well. I love Hunt and Cam and have enjoyed the development of their relationship, bond and commitment. Now, they have something else to face. I am anxious for the next book where we see where things go from the stunning ending. I also should mention the murder was interesting and the investigation was well done. I love the supporting characters.
I was a bit nervous to read this installment based on some other reviews and hints from fellow readers. I shouldn’t have been. Adira August absolutely does these two men justice. The end was hopeful. The characters have learned more about themselves and each other, and continue to grow. The mystery was, as always, riveting. I will be awaiting the next installment with baited breath.
