A Brand New Standalone Novel by USA Today Bestseller Penny Wylder! City girls shouldn't kiss rugged mountain men... That's not a saying my mom ever told me, but she should have. Maybe then I wouldn't have turned my work-trip into a fling with the biggest, boldest, most irresistible man I'd ever met. His muscles are hard, his lips are soft. His smirk makes my legs weak. I'm done for. And then I decide I'm done with HIM, because I'm not ready for the intensity of another minute with someone so... wild. Back to the city and my demanding job. Or that's what I planned... Until I learn I don't have the choice of walking away. Can a secret baby turn a brooding bad boy into a loving father? Or is he as cold as the mountain he lives on? NO cheating, lots of kindle-melting action, and always a happily ever after! This is a revised, expanded+additional content release of Big Mountain. Even if you read that version, you'll find new, delicious stuff inside!
A good but unexpected read. It was longer than expected with danger that I was unprepared for. (Maybe I should do a better job of reading blurbs? Nah! The surprise is part of the fun!)
Gil and Jenna's one-night stand turns into quite the adventure with a mystery that brings them back together weeks later. Suspense, chemistry, and high heat (dirty and fantastic!) are prevalent. I thought I knew the source of the unfortunate event. I was both right and wrong. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was an okay read. Jenna is town for the festival. She meets Gil and they spend the night together. Everything was fine until someone gets killed and then she has to see him again. My problem is that Jenna wasn't the most likable person. To me she seemed selfish. However, she and Gil got a happy ending so good for them.
Tucked into the pages of this sexy story is a bit of suspense and intrigue that made me love it even more. With that, Penny Wylder added a fun twist to this hot and satisfying tale of insta-lust.
Jenna and Gil meet at his quaint hometown's annual festival. He's a woodworker crafting highly sought after furniture...she's photographing the event for her big city employer. While their attraction is instant, their differences are apparent. A passionate weekend that may or may not have a future.
I loved Gil and his lusty ways. On the surface, a gentle giant of a man, but behind closed doors, he's every bit the forceful lover Jenna craves. He is the epitome of a romance hero, and made this story all the more enjoyable for me. 4.5 stars.
If you don't believe in HEA, you should read this!
I have to say I love when a romance novel has a suspenseful, mysterious twist. This one just gave me goosebumps trying to figure out who it was. And did I mentioned I was so surprised! I love the fact that they decide to share city life and small town life. Love their HEA!
Good read. A lot of sex scenes if you are into that lol. But also a great suspense story. Jenna came to this little town just to take pictures for her job and got more than she bargained for. Gil a small town man thought it was just a one night hook up ended up finding something he truly never thought he would have. Good/great read.
I read it and it seemed really familiar. I checked the publishing date, 2020 ... Then I read the part where it said it is a rewrite of Big Mountain. So yep, I have read this before!I A hook up with consequences, small town murder mystery love story.
I. Loved. This. Story! It has everything! Sweet love, little town, baby news, murder, and an HEA! Jenna and Gil hit off of from the beginning and it is HOT!!! We all need a Gil in our lives! This is a must read from a great author.
Jenna never could of imagined her weekend getaway would bring so much happiness and grief to her life. Can she figure out what's going on or will she pick up and leave Gil behind?
I'm used to quickies from Ms Wylder. This story has so much going on, it felt like a 3 hour movie. The world building, the story line, the murder mystery, the relationship arc, the steamy time. So much going on, and it's all GOOD.
I loved this book. Gil and Jenna are so cute and with some killer mystery too. Highly recommended. Who would have thought a work trip could change your life!?!
Recommend: For those that like fast-paced romance, a hot one night stand, mystery and a surprise baby!
Blurb: Jenna is a city girl who arrives in the small town "Bailey" to photograph a local festival. She is instantly smitten with the quaint smalltown charm and the local boy, Gil who makes custom furniture. Hot glances and fiery chemistry lands these two in bed together. But unfortunately their quick encounter is short-lasting as Jenna heads back home. However a couple weeks later she is approached by a local police officer from Bailey about a murder that occured the day she was there. She arrives back in town to be of any assistance and just in time to find out that the sickness she's been experiencing is because she's pregnant. Now with a murderer on the loose and the tension with Gil, Jenna has a lot of choices to make for her future and the life of her child.
Opinion: I was super intrigued by the author's blurb. However this novel fell flat for me. Jenna started off as this amazing, smart, put-together woman. She has a job she more or less loves and a good life in the city. Then she meets Gil and it's just instant chemistry and then they're tumbling in the sheets. Nothing wrong with this - but what had my eyes raising was the forgoing of the condom. Their both strangers and even the "I'm clean" speech wouldn't do it for me. For this smart and sexy woman I'm kind of surprised it's doing it for her. She states she's on the pill but come on...everyone knows that's not 100% effective. So, when Jenna is surprised to find out she is pregnant later on, I'm like girl bye. You were stupid if you didn't see this coming. I probably could go off on the characterization of Gil as well. But to be perfectly honest I feel he was underdeveloped. We got some sense of who he is but I felt he was one-dimensional and couldn't really identify with him. I also felt it was strange how he complied with a lot of Jenna's wishes and demands especially at the end. What also was odd to me was the random murder in the novel. Honestly it would have been fine without the murder. We could have had more conflict with the surprise baby and more tension between Gil and Jenna. The murder was just this random omph I felt was not needed. I get it was kind of mixing the classic romance genre up with some murder and mystery but it just felt like a disconnect for me.

I thought he man, homegrown stud Gil was a little too slick and visitor photographer Jenna a little too easy in this one night stand turned murder mystery/surprise baby romance. Jenna seemed like an independent, strong career woman out on assignment, but lost all of her self preservation brain cells when she spends the night with sexy Gil. A stranger that she connected with, Gil was confident and ultra smooth as he rocked her world as they do each other without protection after a brief “I’m clean, are you?” discussion. I know this is fiction and clearly an OTT romance but somehow I thought Jenna would be a bit savvier than that. I did like Gil’s POV that made him seem more human and sincere when it came to Jenna, but my dislike rapidly appeared again after he was dismissive the next morning with Jenna and her attempts to prolong their time together. What a uncool move but totally in line with his smooth jerk persona. I really didn’t like that he treated her like any other one night stand (like he seemed to do often) and let her go so easily. She didn’t seem special at all. The storyline kept my interest high with the surprise pregnancy (again, Jenna-why so surprised?) and the whole murder mystery thing. Kudos to the author as the storyline turned into a nicely paced whodunnit with lots of graphic scenes with a smarter spunkier Jenna and a sweeter enlightened Gil.

Interesting and hot to say the least – love Gil! This is about Jenna and Gil. The story starts off like any other she is looking forward to an assignment that is going to take her away from the big city. She enjoys it and most of the small-town people are really friendly. She is a photographer and Gil is a furniture maker. As she is there in the town’s festival she notices how friendly he is with a local couple and is a bit jealous of what she sees and so that she is not caught off staring, she decides to take the picture for her newspaper. During the night time she notices something in the forest and thinks there is a second party going on and goes to investigate but then she gets this weird feeling and snaps a picture but head back out as someone calls her out. Well there is a bit of a mystery of who is the murderer but during this time as the photographer and someone who had a one night stand with the gorgeous guy, Gil, she ends up part of it all too. Again, this book was interesting and not what I expected but overall good as it kept me intrigued from start to finish.

Jenna is a photographer sent to take pictures of the festival and meets Gil. Gil is a local carpenter and when he saw Jenna walking at the festival he knew he had to meet her. They run into each other as she comes out of the woods after seeing something she shouldn't have. Gil starts flirting with her and she just goes with it. They have an amazing night but he makes it plain he isn't expecting more the next day. Its not long before she heads home from the festival. She starts to feel sick not long after she returns home and learns that she's pregnant. Just as she is dealing with that new cops from the town of the festival show up to talk to her because while she was there a murder had occurred. Will Jenna tell Gil about the baby? Will the find the killer? Can they be together when they leave in different areas?
This is an amazing story that will hook you from the first chapter through to the last. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Jenna is a busy photographer sent to a weekend festival in the Poconos to take pictures for her newspaper. She meets Gil, a sexy, tall carpenter who is selling his hand crafted furniture there. That evening Jenna sees something in the woods but forgets about it and hooks up with Gil at his cabin. She believes he is into casual hookups only and discovers she is pregnant after she returns to the big city. There is also news that a man’s body was discovered in the woods after the festival. Will Gil be cleared of involvement in the crime and will Jenna’s information and pictures lead to the discovery of the murderer? Will Jenna and Gil decide they want to find happiness as a family?
I enjoyed this mystery and romance story where city and country life came together. The well written story showed how Gil was mistreated when he was a suspect and how their love grew. The epilogue truly provided great conclusion to their story.

BIG BAD BOY is the first book in the Big Men Series series by Penny Wylder, even though it was released after other books in the series. It is a fun, sexy, romantic and hot story about Jenna and Gil. Gil is a true Big Man, in size, appetites and life. Jenna is a city girl who is a career focused photographer on assignment at a small town festival. When they cross paths, as he is a woodworker and she is photographing his furniture, their attraction is instant. There is a wild weekend together but can their be more? But there is more going on in this story that just a weekend fling and a lot of between the sheets time. This is a story-line that was a bit intriguing and not quite what I was expecting, based on reading and lot of this author's books. But it was still an overall good read and the epilogue is a wonderful wrap-up.
I read an advanced copy of this book and am leaving a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are all my own.
When I first started ready this before I was like ok Jenna and Gil I know these characters and Im reading and reading then I realize Ive read this before. I go back to see the description and at the bottom it says revised expanded edition I was like awesome . So I continued to read it and it was awesome . I felt more chemistry between the characters. Gil is like my ideal guy , shy but rugged and then opens up when he meets the perfect girl. I loved the murder mystery of this story . The epilogue was awesome after the original book I wondered what happened with them and she revealed it all. I loved it . Incredible Job Penny.

Jenna is a photographer for a Philly newspaper. She gets sent to this quaint little town, Bailey, for an annual festival. At the festival she meets Gil. Gil is a big sexy local who makes custom furniture. They have a one night stand and go their separate ways. Jenna gets drawn back to Bailey for two reasons a month later. There was a murder at the festival and she’s pregnant with Gil’s baby. While the murder is being investigated Jenna and Gil get to know one another. There is no lacking in the steam in this book. It’s also a good story and you don’t suspect who the murderers are til they come out. It was a good read, full standalone and an HEA.

Big Bad Boy by Penny Wylder is another story with well-developed character portrayals, a strong and intense storyline and the murder/mystery aspect of the plot, only enhances this gripping tale. I found Gill a little too cocky for my liking in the beginning, but as the story progressed it was clear that this mountain of a man had a soft and caring soul, and unknowingly longed for something he didn’t realise was within his grasp. The story flows at a believable pace and the interwoven events unfold to tell a captivating story, that I easily read in one sitting. I thoroughly enjoyed Gil and Jenna’s journey and loved their HEA.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. Jenna comes to town to photograph a festival. Gil is a local craftsman who builds furniture. They have an instant attraction to each other. They end up having sex, which leads to an unplanned pregnancy. The quick fling becomes life changing. They learn that she is pregnant when Jenna returns to town for a murder investigation. They must decide what their future plans will be, all while a murderer is running loose. While I enjoyed this book, it was not one of my favorites written by Penny. The storyline was well done but the characters were what kept it from a higher rating for me
