Híncale el diente a la nueva aventura de la vampira con el corazón más grande. This was the perfect way to end the Amelia Fang series and I am so sad it's over (but this was a great way to go out)!
Amelia is adjusting to life as a new big sister in the dangerous world of Nocturnia, and as she and her friends celebrate Grimaldi's birthnight, Amelia's baby brother, Vincent, accidentally ends up in a mysterious land of toads. Along with her best friends, she goes on an incredible journey to rescue him.
Everything I have loved about the Amelia Fang series to date is present for this final outing, all the way down to the recurring humour. This felt like the perfect present for Amelia Fang fans. The journey and new world was vividly imagined, as every single book by Laura Ellen Anderson has been so far, and I couldn't help smiling and laughing and even weeping at some parts of this book. The part after the ending was a gut-puncher of emotion, but it made me so thankful that the Amelia Fang series exists in the first place.
A fantastic novel on its own and a bittersweet goodbye to a world so many people have fallen in love with. I hope we see more of Amelia and her friends in the future!
Amelia loves her baby brother, but sometimes she wishes he wasn't around. He's smelly, sticky, noisy and always nibbling her things. However, when Amelia's wish comes true and Vincent gets lost in the toad afterlife, she realises she'd do anything to get him back. Enter team toad, and some strangely neat amphibians, to the rescue!
This is the last book on the Amelia Fang series and it follows in a similar vein to all the other books. It's a fast paced adventure with an interesting concept that carries a warmhearted and reassuring message with lots of fun moments. I really enjoy how comforting these books are, and the bond that Amelia has with her friends feels incredibly genuine. Tangine biscsyill my favourite - his outfits have got more extreme with every hook, to the point that he now wears heels everywhere he goes. I love him (just don't tell him that, he's already insufferable).
The only reason I e rated this slightly lower than the previous books is because I found the pacing to be a bit slower in this one, as it takes a bit longer to get into the storyline. I also thought it wrapped up a bit too quickly. However, at this point I'm comparing this book against 6 others of a very similar calibre, and I'm nitpicking slightly.
I'm going to miss Amelia Fang quite a lot. I didn't realise over the last couple of days reading these books just how attached I'd got to the characters. Delightfully fun and friendly, Amelia Fang will hold a special place in my heart for children's books that I will talk about with my children and recommend again and again.
I received this book from the publisher in exchange of an honest review.
The final Amelia Fang is here and I am honoured that I get to be part of the blog tour for it. The series is amazing so I was hyped to start reading this book.. oh and of course also sad as I just didn’t want it to end just yet.
I am just sad that my physical review copy didn’t come in on time. 🙁 I was looking forward to curling up on my new chair and reading this spooky and fun read. In the end I am spending my time on my PC with the PDF.
First up I love the map to the Toad world, OMG, it looks like such a fun world to be in and I like that everything is on lilypads (including the castle) and that the names all have to do with frog/toad things. Maps are always a big plus for me, so I am happy this one was added.
Poor Amelia, I can imagine that she isn’t happy and I did think it was a tad irresponsible and unkind of the parents to dump Vincent with Amelia when she had a special weekend for herself. Why not get a babysitter parents? So I could imagine Amelia’s frustration. She loves him, but sometimes you just need some time alone and Vincent is just too young to understand that he does things that may make people sad (like nomnom on Amelia’s dress). And then Vincent disappears and we see Amelia go into instant sister-protection-mode and wanting to dive right into the place Vincent disappeared to. And throughout the story we see her worry and hope she can find her little brother. She learns that while her brother may be irritating at times… she can also not imagine a life without him in it. Bum prints and snot included. I love that she loves him so much, but I am glad to also see that she at times just gets frustrated with him. Normal sibling behaviour in my eyes, and I am glad it was so well written. Quite often in books it is one way or the other and often books don’t show both sides of the coin. That next to all the frustration that there is also love and care.
It is Grimaldi’s birthnight and the party is going strong with tons of fun games and yummy food. Too bad about the pongy smells, but I guess they add ambience? 😛
I love zombie tag! I want to play, too! It sounds like a great game, though maybe I would feel a bit sad for the zombies, though I guess limbs can just be reattached?
I had a laugh at how Tangine just always seemed to have something of fashion or beauty near him. Oh Tangine! You are fabulous~ Even later on in the story he keeps his fabulous self, though how did he manage to do all that in those heels. Boy! Fabulous!
The descriptions of the toad paradise were very well done, it was just like I was there myself. Though I would probably stick out like a thumb at this moment wearing not at all green clothing. 😛 I would definitely like to visit the place though and check out all the sites. Though hopefully also be able to go back to the land of the living. Please? I had fun reading about our crew of friends searching for Vincent, but also trying to keep their disguises and go along with several things as to not stand out. I had such a laugh at this quote: “Come on then,” said Florence, puffing out her chest. “Let’s follow the snot!”
And then when things seemed to go right… we head into even more adventure and more slime (and snot)! I was so rooting for Amelia and her friends to get Vincent back! Go go!
I giggled when we found out about Furgus. Oh my, looks are deceiving it seems! And then there is another big secret, oh yes! I love it all! And I am happy that Amelia and her friends could help him out.
It was quite hilarious how much Freda popped up in the adventure, even the character remark upon it which had me laughing even harder.
I just love the friendship between Amelia and her friends. It is just the best and the sweetest. I love how they each support each other no matter what happens. That they will always be there for each other. How they give the best hugs when one of their friends is sad. I love how much they have grown together as the series continued.
The ending was sweet, yummy, and fun! I loved it! And that Amelia’s Favourite Memories at the end? Made me tear up! Aww! *sighs* I will so so miss this series, but this was a fantastic way to end the series. I would highly recommend this book and the whole series to everyone!
This was such a gorgeous ending to the series. All the gang together, banding together for Amelia. When Vincent goes missing, Amelia realised that it’s not that much of a pain having a brother. I loved this book loads. The illustrations and the story are so full of character, charm and wit. This series has been wonderful and I’m so sad it’s finished!
Trop triste que ce soit terminé ! Amelia et ses amis vont me manquer. Encore ici de belles valeurs sur l'amitié et plein d'autres sujets, le tout sublimés par les dessins de l'autrice qui sont splendides.
I´m SO SAD that this one was the last book of Amelia and her friends. I loved this series so much, I loved every adventure and the illustrations are just wonderful. I could read way more stories about Nocturnia - sadly there will be no more.... But then I have to read the new series by Laura Ellen Anderson ;)
Amelia Fang is a series that will always have a special place in my heart as, it was the first book series to truly capture Biba’s imagination when a well placed Waterstones display caught her eye. We’ve been through a lot with Amelia and her friends over the 7 book series and we’re going to miss not being able to read more of their adventures.
The Trouble with Toads finds Amelia baby sitting her little brother Vincent whilst her parents and Woo are suffering with Frankenflu. Unfortunately that means Amelia taking him to Grimaldi’s birthnight celebrations which starts with games and ends up with an adventure to The Pond Beyond where a daring rescue mission is on the cards!
Honestly everything about this story was joyful, the imagination in creating such a vibrant world is just as you would expect from Laura Ellen Anderson, with just the right balance of peril, adventure and humour, I also loved that we even got a little bit of time with some of my favourite recurring side characters There are some really beautiful and touching illustrations dotted around alongside the usual quirky offerings, my heart was captured by Amelia and Grimaldi in one and I really felt that each friend was given ample page time. They all got a chance to shine here and get their own good send off, from Florence’s prancing to an unlikely selfless act from Tangine! As usual, there are strong themes of acceptance and loving people for just the way they are. I had to chuckle a lot at Amelia’s dynamic with her baby brother, as it’s something I can relate to so much through seeing how Biba is with her little brother too. The Trouble with Toads is the perfect conclusion to the series.
I may have choked up a little at the wonderful little photo memories section too, its certainly a series that we have returned to many times and will continue to do for many more!
5*
Biba’s Review (Aged 9)
I really enjoyed this book and I’m so sad that the series has to come to an end. I loved Toad Paradise and now I wish I was a toad! I like Amelia’s brother and think that he is very much like my little brother. Some parts of the story made me feel sad, like when Vincent went missing, but some parts I loved especially with Fergus and his sister. It was a very exciting story! I rate this book 5 Stars and send crumpets to Furgus
Following on from book 6, Amelia now has a little brother. This addition to her family has caused lots of things to change in her life and although she loves Vincent, she is rather fed up of all the snot and the crying. While Amelia babysitting Vincent, he accidentally enters the Pond Beyond where squished toads go after they are squished. It's up to Amelia and her friends to rescue Vincent but only toads are allowed to enter the Pond Beyond and no-one has every come back from there!
This was such a great ending to the whole series (which has now become one of my favourite series ever). The characters have grown so much over the series and developed into such distinct personalities that given any situation, I feel I could make a pretty good prediction of how each of them would act - a testament to how well realised they all are!
Adventures with Amelia and her friends are always so much fun and this one definitely was too. I loved all the toad characters that we got to meet and the slightly sinister atmosphere of the Pond Beyond gave me 1984 vibes! As usual there are some wonderful messages gently mixed into the story and these made me cry once again (I think I've cried at every Amelia book). The final chapter and the way the book ended was the perfect way to finish what has been a perfect series!
A perfect last adventure for Amelia and her friends, with the addition of baby Vincent's cute cheeks. Amelia tries to deal with accepting the way her baby brother has changed her life, while she needs to rescue him from the afterlife world of toads. On the way, she meets characters that make her realize how much she loves him.
Always cute, funny, and putting kindness above all.
The last pages were a bit emotional, as they reflected on the journey this series has taken. I especially loved seeing how Tangine developed since we first met him. He's my favorite flamboyant vampire-faerie!
Amelian pikkuveli on syntynyt.
Another adorable Amelia adventure! This time Amelia has an incredibly messy baby brother to contend with, and has to follow him through the road reeds into the pond beyond, when accidentally bounces into the road afterlife. Lots of fun, super cute and with a nice message about family and appearances.
This, along with Memory Theif is my favourite of the series! I devoured this story and loved every second. I'm so sad the series is over now. Highly recommend this series - especially for some escapism.
Sad to have reached the final to date in this sweet comedy horror, written for children but delightful for any age.
I borrowed this from library but unlike the previous in the series, the print edition wasn’t available so no cute pictures. If they get it later on I will borrow and update
I can’t believe it’s over, but this was such a good way to end this series! Amelia has truly blossomed into a wonderful big sister with this book, and I love how they did it! Another wonderfully adorable and fang-filled adventure with the gang!
The series is over. I’m not crying, you’re crying. Okay, I’m crying. Who knew I was a series girl?!? Is this my favorite series ever? I have so many emotions.
3.5 stars Cute adorable book about a vampire and her smelly sticky little brother. Well written relatable, a great cast of characters. Audiobook narration did a great job of accents Cute
This is one of the best books I've ever read. It's truly magical, interesting, warm-hearted and captured my imagination from the moment I started. The illustrations are beautifully designed. I recommend this book to anyone that loves to read, and loves a story that will stay with you for a lifetime.
Poslední kniha Amelie. Ach jo, taková škoda. Už nebudu mít žádnou další ňuňu knížečku, ale skvělé zakončení. Zase plné úžasných myšlenek a skvělé rozloučení se sérií.
