Early in the 21 Century, the Tyrell Corporation advanced robot evolution into the Nexus phase – a being virtually identical to a human – known as a Replicant.

The early Nexus models were intended to reassure the public – and corporate interests – that Replicants were viable replacements to perform jobs considered too hazardous or mundane for humans.

In Los Angeles, a child was diagnosed with a rare spinal affliction. Her mother departed for an Off-World colony, hoping to find employment to support her daughter back home. She was never heard of again.

The grown of Off-world colonies fuelled the rapid development and construction of new Nexus models. By the time Nexus 5 Replicants were ready, they were superior in strength and agility, and at least equal in intelligence, to the genetic engineers who created them.

The girl was raised by her grandmother. Over time, she learned to survive on the crowded streets of Los Angeles, among those too poor and infirm to leave Earth.

After a bloody mutiny by a Nexus 6 combat team in an Off-world colony, Replicants were declared illegal on Earth – under penalty of death.

Special police squads – Blade Runner units – had orders to shoot and kill, upon detection, any trespassing Replicant.

The girl, now grown, calls herself ASH.

She is the most capable Blade Runner in the city.

Oh yeah, I am going to catchup on this series!
Edited: turns out I did not, except for issue#1. I just today reread the FCBD issue and #1. Issues 2 to 4 are available for free on Comixology Unlimited,. Then I will buy the remaining issues one by one. This is a good moody sci-fi tribute to the original movie!

After a bloody mutiny by a NEXUS 6 combat team in an Off-world colony, Replicants were declared illegal on Earth - under penalty of death.

Special police squads - BLADE RUNNER UNITS - had orders to shoot and kill, upon detection, any trespassing Replicant.

I've decided to read through some of the free comic books that Amazon have offered over the year and this one, a Free Comic Book Day offering, jumped out as I do rather like the Blade Runner films.

The story follows Aahna Ashina, known as Ash, as we learn about her upbringing and evolution into a Blade Runner. It sets the scene for the further 9 editions, which I am rather tempted to read as the story looks to be a good one.

The fact that Michael Green was involved in the Blade Runner 2049 film is another good sign that this will fit into the timeline well and add to the overall Blade Runner stories.

Currently free on Kindle, this is a teaser of a US comic series translated into French. Decent graphics, no more no less, good visual narration, good storyline, nothing original at all as this is firmly set within the Blade Runner cinematic world ... overall this is okay. But no more than okay. It just doesn’t have the creativity of the original movie (let alone the book).

Stylish

Good color artwork. Titan comics freebie. 23 pages. This would be easier to review if it was 32 pages. A female blade runner is hunting replicants. Los Angeles actually looks cleaner this time around.

This is probably the best FCBD I have read. It’s a great teaser for the main run, and it’s executed by the same talent. It even includes the creators’ bios, as well as some script pages and panels, from pencils to inks. This offers a good sampling of their skills and what’s to come.

Blade Runner Universe

This comic introduces a new character in the blade runner universe, a runner named Ashina, Ash is what she prefers to be called, and this is her back story.

I recommend this comic to those that have seen and enjoyed the original blade runner movie.

Blade Runner 2019

Glad it was free: for obvious reasons! -- No story; no plot; time wasted! At least there was no $$ wasted. Was forced to give an unwarranted star

This was pretty good, and focuses on the issue of "you gotta do what you gotta do." I'd love to read more of the Blade Runner comics.

Great story line

Amazing classic art.
Shorter than expected. Wish there was a full novel instead of a single comic.
Maybe I'll buy more... Unlikely

Meant as a prelude to the Blade Runner 2019 comic series, here we find a little montage that explains the setting, on one hand Eldon Tyrell showing the new Nexus 6 model, and then a little Asian American girl whose family is bullied by early 2000's police. That girl, Ash, will eventually become a Blade Runner working for the LAPD, and the comic shows her first ever Replicant encounter.

Recommended!
