This is a thoughtful story about Dot helping people and being kind and feeling good about it. It teaches us an important lesson: 💡 Always be kind and don't expect anything in return. I love the thumbs up and down to show the feelings of people. With the colorful illustrations and a nice thoughtful story, my sister and I enjoyed reading this book. 😊
This is definitely a fun book, with a thoughtful message. I love the "thumbs up," and fun illustrations, as the kids today can easily relate and read with interest. I reccomend this book because it spreads kindness, which is much needed- and I know that others will enjoy it just as much as I did!
You will just fall in love with Dot, the thoughtful and helpful protagonist of Kindness Gets a Thumbs Up! Adorable illustrations add to the beautiful and heartwarming messages in this truly inspiring book. Help teach your kids the importance of kindness today!
I like that happiness and sadness is related to thumbs up or thumbs down moods. Really cute book showing how to share kindness with others and how it cam help raise somebody's mood.
An exceptional children's story with a wonderful message about kind acts along with many easy-to-follow examples. The fun illustrations show kindness with thumbs up throughout.
Cute little story about being kind. In the story the main character shows different ways to be kind to the people around him. The small gestures make a big difference!
Another cute book by this author. I liked the thumbs up and thumbs down scattered throughout. That can be a great take away after kids read it and try to put it into practice.
I read this story to my five year old grandson. He enjoyed the story very much. I particularly enjoyed the examples at the end of the story, which !are is all about what we could do to be kind to others.
I love the thumbs up and down visual to show children in an easy way have someone is feeling. Interested to read more books like this and hope it becomes a series (which is sounds like it will) great job!
Simple, sweet, and engaging. A terrific read aloud with which a teacher or parent could have the child provided feedback on how the story impacts them. Adorable drawings
This book was actually a cute chapter book. I loved how this book could relate to anyone. The funniest part (in my opinion) were the names for everyone. Definitely worth referring to others.
A great children's book for teaching children the meaning of being kind. The main character shows kindness by helping others and his kindness motivated others to be kind.
This is an excellent book about life lessons! Would definitely recommend and maybe even suggest the classroom gets a copy! I love the illustrations as well. The whole book is very memorable!
In "Being Kind" by Brenda Li, the reader follows the main character, a young boy named Dot, around his day as he shows kindness to different people he encounters. In the first chapter of the book, Dot is seen in two different instances showing kindness to others. In the second chapter, Dot meets the new student, Bonnie, and guides her around during the school day while carrying out acts of kindness. In chapter three, the focus of the book shifts onto Bonnie, and, as the last chapter of the book, it shows the impact that being kind to someone has on others. Dot’s kindness towards Bonnie is carried on to other people through Bonnie. This book teaches its readers about how far one’s act of kindness can carry, and it can often impact more than one person. It also sends the message that being kind not only makes the recipient of the kindness feel good, but it also makes the person who was being kind feel good. The illustrator of this picture book uses thumbs-up or thumbs-down icons above each character’s head that tells the reader when the characters transition from being sad to happy, with these transitions usually being after an act of kindness has occurred. An excerpt from the article titled “Childhood” by Karen Sanchez-Eppler showed a connection to “Being Kind”. The adults in this book that Dot helps are all named after an animal and are wearing a hat that looks like the corresponding animals, although all of these characters are humans. In the article I am referencing, the author points out the fact that artists of children literature use animals to make pieces “child friendly”. While “Being Kind” is clearly meant to be a children’s book, the unnecessary addition of these animals to the secondary characters demonstrates this idea.
We loved that. Dot was very kind to all of his friends and the bonus activity in the back of the book also helped us teach our son how to be kind. I wish more books had activities like this! It’s also a beautifully illustrated story that is separated into three parts, which make it easy to understand for a four year year-old.
This is a clever way of teaching children the importance of being kind to others and the impact it has on both them and the person being kind. There are bonus activities at the end too. Well done, Brenda.
I love how the book teaches kindness to children of all ages! You hope that kindness is returned to you, but you never do it anything expecting kindness!
