Doughnut in distress. I repeat, there is a doughnut in distress. Wait... Scratch that. Reverse it. Damsel. There is a damsel in distress. Me.
I had one goal, just one teensy-weensy simple goal—to figure out what happened to my dad. All I had to do was head out to his cabin in the woods, look for clues, and figure out how and why he died then go home to the city where I belong.
Except I’m a kindergarten teacher, not a detective.
Of course everything goes wrong, and my first night there I end up with Liam, Christian, Athos, and Nix refusing to leave my side. They think I might be in danger, but they won’t tell me why. Their eyes hold the secrets of the wild, and who am I to deny their need to keep me safe? Especially when their touch eases something foreign inside of me.
Then I discover my dad was murdered, but no one can figure out why.
Not to mention those hotties? Yeah, they grow fur and want me to Surrender to them.
Elle Lincoln has been writing out her dreams and even nightmares for over a decade. She believes in magic in all forms, and oftentimes you’ll find her daydreaming in the oddest of places. Her passion is Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance, where the men are a little bit real and a dash of mythical.
When Elle isn’t writing she’s probably chasing around her four children, child-like husband, and a rambunctious Australian Shepherd. All who keep her on her toes. Nice try with the distractions, but mommy still got those books written and published. She resides in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania with lore and legends, and a whole lot of cornfields.
Ok, let’s get this out if the way: the writing leaves a lot to be desired. Awkward phrasing, incorrect word choice, confusing af story, characters not sticking to one freakin personality. But, but, but, I wanted to love it! It’s the TV show Grimm meets RH fated mates and I was on board for some action. The H is quirky and confusing at times. I liked the verbal diarrhea, and simultaneously thought it was too over the top. I liked the spastic action and also thought it was... not charming. Not sure why the author goes out of her way to make sure we all know the H eats like a gross pig, but I loved the intense devotion to donuts. The guys seem like they’re going to fulfill their relative stereotypes in a satisfactory manner. But then, breakdown. It jumps the shark at 76%. The H becomes a stupid milquetoast. Oh, I realized I’m weak in this mortal shell. Wat the eff? Who says mortal shell? Who even thinks it? She’s a freakin human! Also, the guys are suddenly suspect of her and... that’s cool they’re mates. She gets scared and the narrative breaks down such that I don’t know what’s going on and I guess the point is she’s weak, which is maddening. What about if she needs some big, strong alphas, but isn’t actually a limp d|ck herself? Ugh. I want to finish, but I know this ends in a cliffhanger and I’m questioning if it’s worth another emotional hit.
There are foundational flaws in the execution of the plot and character development that render the book virtually unreadable.
For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why the fmc refers to herself in 3rd person as “Bean”. Or why it was necessary for the character to be 4’ tall when all of the male characters were nearly 7’ tall. Then there were the strange behavioral characteristics. She gets hungry and freaks out. Sure. Okay. Everyone gets hangry once in a while. I’m willing to bite. Bean, however, loses touch with reality. She starts rolling around on the floor of a grocery store shrieking and screaming hysterically about pasta as she flails.
By the time Bean stole and wrecked someone else’s truck, verbally abused the receptionist answering the phone for her doctor’s office, and started lighting up cigars, puffing away like she was doing a bad Rush Limbaugh impersonation, I was over trying to understand what the author was trying to accomplish with the character or the story.
The writing style is fast and conveys a sense of immature urgency. Which seems to fit the h’ POV and overall character. Sabine or Bean (h) young and unsure. It’s my least fav type of h (female main character or heroine). Not sure if it’s just the authors style or the character she is trying to portray. I will wait to form an opinion until I read more of this author’s work.
I would recommend this book for those that like high school or YA books with timid female main characters. Would have rated it 1star but I like the male characters.
In my opinion strong alpha type men, need just as strong women or they are cowed and become shells of themself. Which only breeds boredom’s resentment, long term.
Wow, what a dis-jointed book. It almost felt like a rough draft at times. The plot had so much potential, but the execution was badly done. To start with, this needed a content editor & proof-reading really badly. Way too many errors for a published book. The FMC, Sabina/Bean, was a total turn-off for me as a reader. I absolutely hated her. I almost quit the book several times just over her. The 4 guys in her RH (at least 2 of the 4) were total turn offs as well. The big gripe I had was everybody was so wishy-washy. They'd all (all the main characters) would act one way one minute & total opposite the next. It was to hard to keep things sorted out of who was who at times. Just really wish I hadn't wasted my time finishing this & had quit when I first got the thought to do so. I definitely won't be moving on with the series...
I meant it was good, it wasn’t great. Kind of a slow burn, but I guess I should’ve expected that since there’s like 5 books in the series.
I think book one was most likely just to get all the info on what’s going on before the actual exciting stuff happens… I hope atleast bc I’m about to start book 2 lol
So I guess we’ll find out in this book if I’m going to finish the series or not.
I really love the storyline of this book, its so amazing and the characters were hilarious. Sabina’s dad just died and she goes to his cabin to find out more about his murder but what she finds is her fated mates, Christian, Athos, Nix and Liam. There are many secrets surrounding them, especially about Sabina’s dad and together they find out the truth about him and Sabina. I loved all the characters in this series and especially Sabina aka Bean, she was so funny and quirky ...not in an annoying way but she was really amazing. She didnt mate with the guys as soon as she found out about them, rather she wanted to know about them and fall in love with them. The guys on the other hand were so sweet but also had that alpha vibe, the story has so much suspense and i cannot wait to read the next book.
Wow this is one heck of story!!! So many questions. Loving the storyline. It’s fantastic. Characters are also very good. I’ll admit sometimes wanted to smack Sabrina. And oh that ending. So not fair!!!! I need the next book. I have to know what happens next. Definitely recommend reading this one. Author did a fantastic job with story. Actually looking to forward to reading more from her. Loved this story!!!!
I really enjoyed this book, the storyline is engaging and interesting, i enjoyed the heroines wit and the way scenes were described so i could visualise what i was reading.
The cliffhanger at the end was brilliant, it really made me want to read the next book and know more about the story.
This is a re-read review. A few pages in I realized I have already read it before however I didn't leave a review. And now I totally remember why. Here goes.
🍩 Genre: Paranormal Romance Reverse Harem
🍩 Supernatural specific: lycans, mage, goddess & greekgods. Though it is described as All imaginable monsters exists.
🍩 Setting: Human world who lives alongside these species. But unknown to the situation that monsters living among them.
🍩 Storyline rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
🍩 Storyline comments: I actually love the idea and storyline. It's unique enough compare to typical wolf shifters stories I've read before. I love that a lot of thought is put into the history and storyline and not just a smut fest. Though there is soo much unanswered questions and secret in the story that even at 50% of the book I still don't know what the hell is going on .. both the FMC and all the males MC have secret they aren't willing to divulge and give in that I'm frustrated.
🍩 History: men cursed to be wolves by the God Zeus. Meant to be werewolves however the curse was tweaked by Goddess Selene and the cursed became lycans instead. unbound by the full moon and set on mission to protect humankind. Future Lycans, born and not made. Is so call the police of the supernatural kind. Goes on mission to kill rouges Supernatural that harms humankind's peaceful ignorance and lives.
🍩 Female Main Character: Sabine / Bean (24yo) Human
🍩 Male Main Character: Athos, Christian, Phoenix, Liam (37-28yo) , Kade (??yo) estranged rogue pack brother. All Lycans and 5 fated mate to Sabine.
🍩 Characters rating: ⭐⭐
🍩 Favourite character: None. If I really have to pick favourite: Liam⭐ & Kade⭐ . One star for each.
🍩 FMC Character critics : I HATE THE FMC. SHE HAS A FOCUS OF A 3 Year Old. Her thoughts are all over the place. And her getting hungry at the wrong time is damn annoying too.. I hate how she deflects facing a situation with random thoughts. Despite the urgency of the situation.
💆 Example 1: she just had something akin to a heartattack .. 4 times within minutes apart since she arrives in this mysterious town.. with the last attack hit so hard that she passed out and yet as soon as she wakes up , instead of demanding WTH is going on she opens her mouth and demanding "Feed Me!" To a stranger she barely even knows then goes moaning and groaning on the sweet goodies donuts that was brought to her by the stranger. Without a worry that she might actually really have a heartattack. (Since at this point she didn't know it was a supernatural happening of a soul recognising her mate)
🤦Example 2: she was attacked by wolves (from a rival pack of her fated mates) her mates have to shift in front of her for the first time just so she can get away and run for her live. At this point she still didn't know they were lycans.. so obviously a normal human being would have freaked out run first to save her lives.. but nope she didn't she proceeded as planned to get to the post office because hey her family has mailed her baked goodies and there will be cupcakes waiting for her. After she collected the goodies she stopped by the highway, cos she's supposedly soo stressed up with her situation she needs sugar to release.. so she have to have the cupcake to calm down.. after she can think straight she proceeded to think about what just happened and how the so called stranger she just knew Liam had shifted from a man to a wolf Infront of her eyes in order to protect her .. she then didn't dwell on how the hell shifting is possible but the fact the she get stuck in a pity party of how she can't defend herself against wolves.. she then proceeded to look at herself in the rear view mirror and flex her arms looking at her saggy biceps and deciding she would need to buff up if she were to help her self.. spends a few minutes try to flex harden up her biceps then giving up blaming it all on the sweet goodies of the cupcakes and donuts that she loves so much.. (Damn!! Priorities much? Analyze the situation for god's sake!)
At this point I didn't know how many times I roll my eyes annoyed with her behaviour.. really she's supposed to be 24yo and a teacher.. but I can't decide if she's dumb, immature, naive or just certifiably insane.. no normal human would act like her.. okay, when in danger, we panic, we worry.. our mind goes a mild a minute, we get chased by a wolf and supposed to run for our lives the last thing on our mind would be desserts.. I mean it's not even sustanance food meant for survival.. I don't even know if she's supposedly meant to be portrayed that's she's brave or a coward with how she handles her situation all I see is deflection..
🍩 MMC character critics: I totally had a disconnect with the 'heros' in this book.. For me I find myself as someone with a great imagination.. usually when I read something in my mind I can pun an image of the character. Even if there is lots of characters in the book I can imagine how they would look like. Even is the author are new writer or not good at description. (But the male characters in here, I cant whenever I imagine them.) Whenever I tried all I see is Athos: Faceless man with manbun hair. Liam: A faceless male body wearing Hawaiian shirt. Christian: faceless male in a police uniform. U get the idea.. I can't put a face to this character, is their jaw squarish? Their nose? Their eyebrows? Gahh I can't.. I dunno if I'm not interested in the character enough to care or I just skimmed over the details or the author didn't described them enough. Even then I love that they are different individuals and their behaviour or lack there of defer from one another..
🍩 Romance rating: ⭐ 1 star .
🍩 Romance critics: I'm sorry I don't even find this romantic at all.. okay I'll explain.. some shifter mates books have insta-lust just because the universe says they are mates and they just get horny instantly with each other.. I hate that but to me atleast it's something.. in my opinion for this story bean and the guys don't even have that.. There is no romance, the is no love build up.. there is not even insta-lust .. there is only a burning ache need to fuck but has nothing to do with attraction towards the female. Dont get me wrong, the author did described how incredibly sexy the males are to her.. but not once described how sexy she is to them.. there is not even a description of how sexy her lips look to them or whatever.. or how her hair flowss or how the whole world disappear and they can only see her.. u know those moments where only she exists.. there's nothing like that in this story.
🍩 Sex scenes: 1scene
🍩 Sexy smut scene star: ⭐ 1 star, sorry not explosive enough for my liking.
🍩 Cliffhanger: Yes
🍩 Will I read the 2nd book or abandoned this series: I love the story line enough to continue.. however with the disconnect and how unromantic everything is I don't know how long I will last though at this point I'm only going further into the series because of the unique back story and how I want to find out what happened and how the mystery unravels.. I don't hold much hope on the romances the relationship building between them and things like that.. honestly I'm quite disappointed.. I would categories this as a paranormal mystery rather than a paranormal reverse harem romance.
Decent read. Writing was a little spastic at times. Like, they would be talking about one thing & the next page it was a completely different scene. Gave me a bit of whiplash, but it was forgivable. It usually is anytime I immediately go on to read the next book.
This is a great story! Well written I love the exciting storyline and the fantastic characters. There’s twists and turns to keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat, there’s some hot and sexy guys, there’s action, drama and suspense and that cliffhanger, well OMG! Where’s the next book???
Wow I can't remember the last time I read a book with a heroine I hate so much!! At least in the RH shifter genre I know so far Sabine ranks at the very bottom if not lower.
This is the first time that I have ever pittied the guys in a RH for having to bond with the heroine. They were and are the only reason I will continue this series but I hated her so much it was truly a struggle to turn each page! I wanted to through my phone over the wall just to aliviate the anger.
She is such a weak, whiney character that supposely is 24 y/o but behaves like a spoiled 13 y/o bratt. She is a complete coward (smth I found really hard to tolerate). Not to mention incredibly ungrateful and annoying! She has the personality that is normally asigned to a side-character or a "villan" that everyone hates, but I can't escape because DUH she is the MC!!
*spoilers ahead*
Where to start my complaints??
She deliberately abandons liam to the wolves without even thinking about helping or letting Nala know he needed help at all. She later abandons Nix and Dakota btw so if you thought she had grown brave? Think again.
She is supposed to be all humble and hurt because her dad just passed, but we meet the guys and she behaves like a spoiled bratt that expects to be pampered and attended like royal without deserving it or saying the words "PLEASE AND THANK YOU" I think (think!!) There is about ONE time she uses those words.
I hate that I am constantly reminded she is small with things like the booster seat because it makes me picture her like a literal toddler and given that the guys are in their 30s I dont appreciate it at all.
"Feed me" "give it" "feed me" omg I am going to explode of hate to her truly... everytime she speaks I cringe on the inside and feel so embarrassed for her I don't know how the guys tolerate her at all, really that magic-mating-fated- bond screwed with the guys lives.
I came across this book after scrolling amazon for new Reverse Harem books to read. I passed two pages before this cover grabbed my attention. I immediately read the blurb and the first sentence caught me hook, line, and sinker. I've never read from this author before, but I was so enchanted by the premise I instantly downloaded the book.
Five hours later and not only did I NOT get any sleep, but I was a zombie during my science Zoom call class just a few hours ago, haven't slept a wink, and I'm internally screaming like a cicada because that cliffhanger. Oh, and I still have two more classes today and I'm so tired, but it was WORTH IT!!
This book was the perfect mix of humor and romance. The main character, Sabina, was so f***ing funny, I laughed until I cried so many times in this book that it literally got me out of a depressive episode. I was a mess going into this book, I'll be honest, and I was getting more and more emotional the more I keep trying to read other books but couldn't connect with any of them. Then I downloaded this book and cried, but a good cry. I laughed, which I haven't done in a week. This book was just feel-good and the humor was perfection. Sabina is wickedly hilarious, has the best inner monologues, and just made me smile.
Sometimes you just want a book to make you smile, to make you forget about everything but the story it's telling, and this book was the best medicine for me. I needed this book and didn't even know it.
The romance was slow-burn, which I know not a lot of people absolutely love in RH romances, but honestly the heat level was amazing. I love that, although fated-mates, we got to know all the characters on a deeper level without throwing so much s** into the equation too soon. The twist of this book reminded me of Practical Magic, which was 10/10 awesome! And the guys? Swoon-worthy. Delicious. Lickable, as Sabina would say LMAO
Lastly, the friendship between the heroine in her cousins literally gave me all the feels. Sometimes, a heroine just needs friends outside her harem and I loved Sabina and all her crazy cousins. And their grandma! I love that crazy pirate lady!
If you're looking for a feel-good, hilarious, entertaining, and just all-around amazing story that includes wolves, fated-mates, and all the awesomeness, I HIGHLY recommend this book. You'll be enchanted by the characters, stunned by the beautiful writing, engrossed with the storyline, and crackling with laugher throughout the book! Enjoy the ride!
Another book I can’t rate because my lack of enjoyment is not the author’s fault.
I recently listened to another book narrated by Heather Costa. It was a bad experience, and I wondered if maybe an entire different setting would change that – nope. Still hate her voice. I am not a fan of Tor Thom’s either, but Heather Costa’s every word grated on my soul. So I don’t know if I truly didn’t enjoy the book because of the quality of the writing or because of her.
On the positive side, I love the various female friendships Sabina has. That shit was cute. On the other hand, when this book gets dramatic, it goes so hard at it that it becomes ridiculous. The entire scene after she finds the armory is a good example of what I mean – this girl waxes so much poetic about it, that all I could do was roll my eyes and hope she would just get on with it. Same after she slaps the one guy. It’s borderline cringy how corny the narration can get.
There is also something to be said about the borderline psychotic tone of the narration at points. Very serious scenes suddenly have ‘jokes’ thrown in that feel jarring and insane. However, I don’t know how much the narrator is to blame – maybe if I read it I would feel different. Fact is this book was exhausting and I did not grow attached enough to any character to consider giving the next one a try. I did not like Sabina, I did not like most of the guys and their nicknames for her (I realize that “cub” is the equivalent to “baby” in terms of human pet names, but for some reason I have no problem with the latter and all the problems with the former) and while it wasn’t all a loss, the negatives outweigh the positives by too much.
After the first chapter which was terribly annoying and felt disconnected from the plot, I thought abandoning the reading but I persevered. The story is confusing and a bit messy: too many mysteries and elements which didn't make sense for the moment and/or even were in conflict. About the FMC, Sabina, she's too contradictory, full of incertainty, weakness, and childish. I liked her humor but sometimes it was really too much. I hope she will mature in the next books. About the guys, it's difficult to understand if they have real feelings for Sabina. Suddenly they suspected her and left her alone without any reason except the smell of her father in a cave???!!!! I was disappointed(!!!spoiler!!!) that her first mating was with Christian who he's the least likable of all. The change of POV focus too much on Sabina and not enough on the guys.
I really enjoyed this story! I really enjoyed how it was set up and the mystery plot of what happened to her dad. I thought it was exciting and i was instantly pulled in.
The guys were intriguing, and I can’t wait to find out more about them. This takes place only over a few days but it flows naturally. I also love Sabina. She reacts in funny ways, yet they’re realistic. Maybe she just reminds me of me! Lol. Can’t wait to continue the series.
Made me laugh out loud a few times and I mostly like the characters as well as the plot but I’m not a fan of MC’s demanding answers when they hide things themselves. But it’s an interesting first book and I’m intrigued by what’s to come.
I dnf, maybe this book gets better, maybe it doesnt, I just couldn't get pasted this H freaking out, she's having a crazy meltdown that is way over exaggerated for my taste while having lustful feelings at the same time.
Not only is this book well written, but its funny and keeps your interest. I really liked the characters in this book. FYI this series is not showing correctly on G.D., next book is called Submission.
Luckily, this book didn’t let me down with what I expected. In fact, I’d say that there was a lot more to this story than I originally thought.
Sabina is one of those quirky heroines that comes from an even quirkier family. A family filled with wild women who know how to drink and carry a curse. Their husbands, boyfriends, anyone of romantic import to them are destined to die. It’s happened to all of them. Now, it’s finally claimed Sabina’s father. Needing time to grieve and figure out the strange circumstances surrounding his death, Sabina ventures off to his cabin in the woods and finds more than she bargained for. Four fated mates. To make things worse, her murdered father knew about it and more.
Mixing in a little mythology and a bunch of other supernaturals, the plot had a great reach of what it could delve into throughout the series. We are just getting a taste in this introduction to the Fated Souls series. Werewolves, mages, gods, and more. There’s lots of mystery to uncover. The book didn’t feel overcrowded and slowly introduced us, like Sabina, to the idea that there is wayyy more to the world than meets the eye.
Sabina was a good character. She’s sugar hungry, doesn’t take well to stress, and has a nerve of steel when she’s backed into a corner. When she meets her fated mates, it’s no surprise that she tries to resist the call. Sabina knows that a curse haunts the women in her family. She doesn’t want to be responsible for their deaths. When she starts to get to know them, though? It gets harder and harder not to see how attractive they are, inside and out.
Speaking of the mates... I’m happy to say I actually like them all. We don’t know them entirely well yet, but what I see so far has me ready to read the next book eagerly. I happen to LOVE a bad boi douchebag that hides a heart of gold, so surprise surprise that I totally am here for Christian. The others also are super appealing and I can’t wait to see the development happen.
The other supporting characters? Well written and had actual personalities. They play a more vital role to the story than we know in the beginning and I’m very happy for it. Their characters would have been wasted. *spoilers ahead* The Irish twins and Pepper? Weird hippy, prophet Nessa? Willowy secret government officer Ash? I want to so badly know more about them. Even Nix’s cousin. *end of spoilers*
I would totally recommend this book to those that are deep into the RH genre, like me, that have a special place for the werewolves and fated mates. I’m pissed that I’m gonna have to wait til the next book of the series comes out! Freaking knew the cliffhanger was coming and was still surprised to see it lol.
This book had so much potential! It really did. As much as it had potential to be a 4 star/5 star book, it lacked. There were so many mistakes/mishaps I lost count. With the mistakes, came confusion. There are also so many unanswered questions.
1. In the beginning of the book, it mentions the cabin as huge. Three stories with six bedrooms that also had a dining room table with a set of six chairs. Why six? There are only 4 wolves (we find out later, there used to be five) but not 6. So why so many bedrooms? 2. In the beginning, it says that the bedrooms are separated. 3 upstairs and 3 on the lower level. But at 70% of the book, it went from 6 bedrooms to 5 bedrooms and their all downstairs on the lower level...wait what? Thats confusing 3. Lets also mention the fact that Sabina is the worst character ever. She sounded like some horny 16 year old that can't control her urges. She's supposed to be in her mid 20s. She acted so immature and a ditz...it drove me crazy. Liam also acted the same way. Immature and some horny teen and he's supposed to be near 30. Liam and Sabina would be better off being siblings than him being a wolf and her being some ditz. 4. Christain is supposed to be a sheriff but the town doesn't consist of any humans. So why is there a sheriff? 5. The scene toward the end of the book where the rogue wolves attack, Nix carries Sabina toward the door that opens to a flight of stairs to a steel door that opens to the safe room. He opens the door and carries her down the stairs. Nix then tells her to go downstairs, and once there, there's a door that opens to the safe room. However, the book doesn't mention a second flight of stairs to the safe room. It just says one flight of stairs to a steel door that opens into a safe room. Confusing right????? I think I read that part 6 times trying to make sense of it. Ugh. There are countless other mistakes that just didn't make sense. I am seriously trying to think why or how anyone could give this a 4 star let alone a 3.5. This is more toward a 2.5 to 3 star. Anyone who actually read the book...seriously read the book will understand how and why I am left confused. This can't be a 4 star-5 star book. No way. The drama scenes also sucked. Twilight had better suspense than this. Hell, twilight made better sense than this book. No way could I ever recommend. Don't read this book. You'll thank me.

SYNOPSIS (of Books 1-4): The story is set in a word where shifters live side by side with humans but humans are unaware. The FC, Sabine or Bean, goes to her father‘s cabin in the woods to scatter his ashes and find out who murdered him. She meets her fated mates and discovers that shifters, Gods and Magic exist. The story covers how the FC learns who she is and the reality of the world she lives in as well as getting to know her fated mates and find out who killed her father. This is against a backdrop of the shifter council trying to make some fundamental changes to how they rule. There are Gods and Goddesses involved and a small amount of angst. There are currently about 10 plus books in this series but they are broken down into different characters but all from the same family. The first 4 books are about Sabine.
🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆🍆 - there are quite a few sex scenes and they are well written and hot but not OTT and relatively vanilla
A lot of reviewers have given this book a low rating and whilst I agree with some of the comments I think that this book had a decent story and a likeable (but quirky) FC. I agree that there are a lot of typo and editing issues and parts where a sentence or paragraph just doesn‘t make sense, it‘s like the author changed something somewhere and forgot to make the consequential changes or just failed to read over what she had written. This does detract from the story and is very annoying.
I still gave this book a 4 as I liked the quirkiness of the FC and the plot started off well. Unfortunately as the story (and Books) progress there are real holes in the story and parts that make no sense. I also felt that the climax, as seems to be the case with a lot of books that have a big build up, just didn‘t deliver and the villains did not get what was coming to them. I find it irritating when authors introduce powerful beings such as Gods but then ignore the fact that in reality that being could just kill or punish those that have done wrong and end all the issues that the FC is suffering. That is the case here.
The FC, as mentioned, is quirky and talks to herself a lot. Some of it I found quite funny. There is the issue of her constantly wanting to eat snacks and being hungry which is never explained and there is limited backstory regarding the MCs or the world they live in. The relationships are all insta as this is fated mates and there is no real character development.
On the whole I found the Books enjoyable but too many issues with the storyline and the lack of closure for me to continue on. I‘m also not a fan of Gods or Goddesses in stories.
This was everything I expected from a shifter book and so much more! Bean was such an amazing FMC. I know she seems kind of on weak side as of right now, but I know that will change eventually and I'm here for the ride. I can't wait to see the growth in her character as she bonds with her mates and learns more about their pack and community. On the other hand, if you really think about it, Sabina may be weak on the physical side, but both mentally and emotionally she is very strong. Besides experiencing multiple deaths in the family, she also has been living her life lacking the one thing she wants the most: to love. With fated mates being tossed into the mix, that is one crazy battle to have to fight, knowing that those intense feelings can never be solidified because of a family curse. Reading those moments of Sabina coming to terms with that (before she knew more information about her situation and her family) gave me all the feels. I was all kinds of emotional while reading this book. Her mates really made the story as well. I enjoyed the differences between each character and how they each had their individual connection with Sabina. Each guy was either funny, quiet yet observant, teasing, or authoritative, but each was protective and had their own dominant side to them. It brought a really great balance to the group. I wonder if the mysterious Kade will throw a wrench in that balance or if he will enhance it even more. He's a definite wild card and that cliffhanger proved it! Another thing I loved was the mystery of this storyline and all of the secrets that her father had kept from her and those around him. Was he really playing both sides of the chessboard, carefully placing each pawn for the best or most beneficial result, or is there more to it than that? I can't wait to find out all of the answers in the next book!
I don’t know if the author chose to make the MFC so unlikable in order for her to have a huge redemption in the coming books or if they thought this was an actually interesting character.
She was whiny obnoxious brat and yet I hate that I had empathy for her because literally 95% of the people around her left her in the dark and set her up for ignorance. And then when she does start to find things out about the supernatural by meeting her mates they get frustrated with her because of that ignorance. Every time she asks a question they refuse to answer leaving her ignorant still!! They get upset that she doesn’t want mate with them literally moments after their meeting and claiming she refused them when really her response was completely rational for her level of understanding.
As for the mates… they weren’t interesting and were hot and cold. (Spoiler) Then she bonds with the one who is the biggest jackass? I love a good bad boy and morally grey MC. He wasn’t so much that as a dick. Constantly calling her Damsel (I get it’s supposed to be a nickname) while trying to bully her into having more self confidence and be strong. Oxymoron of an approach. 🙄 Essentially saying “You need to fight and be strong, you are a Damsel” and yes, the nickname is because he felt she was always in distress and needing saving. Could be cute but it started to just come across as demeaning.
I was excited when I first stumbled on this series but wow, this was PAINFUL to get through. Interesting idea but the execution failed. Maybe partnering with a different editor would improve it. But this just didn’t hit the mark for me.
I adore quirky heroines, and carb obsessed Sabina is one of my favorite book girlfriends of this year.
Sabina, Bean, to those close to her, is determined to uncover the mystery as to how her father died. She's taken his truck and headed into the Northern Allegheny National Forest to figure it out and tumbled into Lunar Mile, a place off the map, where there are no women, and she shouldn't be able to find. But it has a toilet and donuts so it can't be all that bad--scratch that, the facilities are a petri-dish of ick and someone needs to clean that up stat!
I found myself chuckling at this book so much. Bean is outrageous, and her meltdown upon seeing a hot guy turn into a wolf is one of the best I've seen written.
Better yet, there is a wacky family of fellow females just waiting to have their books after this series, crossing fingers. But, first, we need to get Christian, Athos, Liam, and Nix to stop fighting fate and start solving the problem at hand. And boy, Elle Lincoln, did I not want to like Christian, you dragged me kicking and screaming, to loving his grouchy, sexy butt!
And, now I need more!
Seven of five stars because of donuts.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.
Our main character is Sabina or "Bean." Her father dies in the woods near his cabin in Lunar Mile. She travels to the cabin to find clues regarding his death which is later considered a murder. She meets her harem: Liam, Christian, Athos, and Nix. There are strong hints that she'll have one more mate. Her harem members are Lycans who shift into wolves. Throughout the story we learn that there many, many other characters including but not limited to Gods, Vampires, Mages, and Flesh-eaters. As she works to solve the mystery of her father's death, she starts falling in love with her harem.
In my opinion there are far too many characters and too many plots going on. Her cousins, her BFF, and her bartender friends know about this other world and are supernatural themselves. There's a rival pack fighting for her. There are wolves that like the taste of human flesh after her. Her dad has a weapons room with each weapon labeled by what creature it kills (there are many). We hardly know what makes her special and learn about Lycans and then all these other characters and creatures are introduced. It's just too much, in my opinion.
The down and dirty: She rounds 1st base with two of her harem. She crosses home plate with another.

No plot spoilers No potential triggers There are a few grammatical errors that irritated but didn't kill the book. The sentence structure took me a while to fully understand, it's quite odd at times especially the first few chapters, it doesn't always make sense but if you can forgive it you should see that it doesn't mean the book is poor and eventually the writing style morphs and becomes normalised. I did connect with the characters, including the supporting characters but will admit that the storyline is slow to progress. The balance between show and tell is heavily weighted in favour of tell, the constant angst from the female lead a direct result of the male characters reluctance to drive forward. Details are few and far between and you leave the book almost as clueless as you are when you start. That's not to say the book isn't worth the read, the dialogue from the FL is outstanding, I admit I laughed quite a few times. On balance I believe I will continue with the series. There are a few sex scenes and plenty of swearing.
