With a concept and story by Fuse, the creator of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Trinity in Tempest is the grand tour of Rimiru's world that fans have always wanted. Through the eyes of three cute little monsters, one from the fox clan, one from the dragon clan, and one from the winged clan, readers will meet the residents of the utopia in Jura Forest, and get a peek at how they live their lives. The little group's leader, Phos, is a fox girl from the Beast Kingdom of Eurazania. But this isn't just a pleasure trip for her... she's visiting Tempest on secret orders from Lord Carrion. What would a demon lord want with Rimiru's monster paradise?
If you enjoyed the anime, "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime", you'll find yourself looking for more material to consume. The best ones are usually from different perspective of the stories that are already considered canon. There have been several in the market and this is one of more recent one.
The spin-off "Trinity in Tempest" follows the stories of three agents from different demon lords looking to get more intel from the nation that the Slime Rimura founded in the main series. These are their adventures as they interact with the city, its citizens, and sometimes members of the main cast.
It's a diversion while waiting for the second season of the anime that is said to arrive in 2021.
I've received eARC from publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
I'm fairly familiar with both Slime manga and anime, so revisiting Tempest was something I was really looking forward to because all we see in main series is through eyes of Rimuru and not some random visitors.
Trinity in Tempest is spin-off series focused on three girls of different species who on whim of their lord decide to visit Tempest and monitor living in there. Phos, fox girl, Nemu, winged girl and Stella, dragon girl (who is very fond of Millim). Meaning it's mainly slice of life series. Most of the cast from main series also appear - Rimuru, Shion, Shuna and many more. It was a quick and fun read - characters are very unique and bright, often causing a scene which made me laugh several times.
As for art, it's your regular Slime. If you are familiar with original, you should enjoy even the spin-off. I think it's okay to read this series even if you are not familiar with original, although you might not get some of the jokes.
Placeholder review because I found when I read it (approximately) but only vaguely remember the story, so this is my impressions rather than a "real" review.
I mostly read this as a snack in between releases of the main series, and it's... not great? Like, it reads like My Hero Academia: School Briefs, but about new characters I don't care about and barely any of the main cast, so not as fun as School Briefs even though it's about as shallow (that is, nothing Serious happening).
Actually, it's more like My Hero Academia: Vigilantes since THAT has some of the major players from the main series... well, no, because THAT takes place many years before the main series so to avoid too much contradiction with the canon storyline, vs. Trinity tries to shoehorn itself in between major events in the main storyline.
That's the main problem with spin-offs, as I've noted in other reviews. The spin-off can't contradict the main story without undermining its own worth: If Rimuru died or irretrievably went back to his own world in the spin-off, then... that would just make it feel like it's the book equivalent of clickbait. At *best* it would feel like an alternate universe rather than the same one.
I don't know. I read a few volumes before realising I just wasn't enjoying it for the money I'd invested. Wish I'd learned after ONE volume, but I have to justify it to myself as money spent on books is never wasted (unless it's someone I can't stomach supporting, but that's true of ANY merch).
Do you love the series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and want to see more of the many characters revolving around the main one? Or are you like me, where you want to give the series a try but are looking for a low-key entry point? Either way, be sure to check out That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Trinity in Tempest Vol. 1.
Rimuru the slime has created a fantastic country for all beings. Visiting this country, we'll find three guests: Phos the fox girl (on a mission, naturally), Stella the dragon girl (a Millim fan to her core), and Nemu the winged girl (a very sleepy harpy).
Trinity in Tempest Vol. 1 is essentially a series of side quests set in the same world (and city) of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. It's cute and fun, and I imagine the perfect stopgap for those stuck waiting between seasons (or volume, what have you).
Honestly, it made me really want to give the main series (both manga and anime) a try – which is exactly what I was hoping for! So you better believe that it is getting added to the list, and as soon as I have time, I'll be delving in.
I really enjoyed these short stories from Phos, Stella, and Nemu. We got to know Phos the best, and in many ways, she felt like the main protagonist to this side quest. Even when Stell and Nemu get introduced, we essentially see them through her perspective. This made for a grounding element within the volume instead of having two jarring transitions as we swapped to different characters.
The artwork within That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Trinity in Tempest Vol. 1 is bold, bright, and a ton of fun. Much like the samples I've seen from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. I love the way Rimuru made an appearance here and there, as it became a big deal both in story and art.
Thanks to Kodansha Comics and #NetGalley for making this book available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Two spies and a dragon worshiper come to the town (though not together) and discover the truths of Tempest.
If you like the original series because Rimuru is cute and you can't get enough of him, Veldora, or the antics he inspires as he continues to establish himself and his monster nation then this book may not be for you. On the other hand if you love the side characters that support Rimuru and want to see personalities and observances of three original characters that came from various other Demon Lord realms then let us begin this tale taking place as a side story of the original tale. The book is basically the same oversized print as the original series (as opposed to The Ways of the Monster Nation which is more normal manga size) and it should be noted that the series is rated Older Teen so it is rated for readers 16 or older and has at least one bath scene censors all the more sensitive places with fantastic object placements when necessary while still giving plenty of cleavage fanservice (especially Shion) to those that crave this from manga.
So let us hope for the best as Phos the Fox Lycanthrope, Stella the Milim Super fan, and Nemu the not so energetic Harpy discover what Tempest is all about and perhaps find out a little bit more about themselves as this trinity of girls take on Tempest, get jobs, and attempt to achieve their personal goals. In the meanwhile they also seem to have become good friends quickly so who knows what implications this might have in the future of the story. :)
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Trinity in Tempest felt like an add-on and it is one too. It's a side story to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and it looks at Tempest from a different angle. Basically perfect for fans of the original manga, but for others it cannot really offer anything, since you'd have to know the characters to understand this. This part mostly centers around Phos, who's a fox-like girl wanting to find her place in Tempest. She meets the dragon girl Stella, who wants to become an amazing cook for the demon she worships and also a sleepy winged girl named Nemu. Basically the manga consists of small occurrences in their lives in the city and nothing else. In a sense cute, but quite bland, really.
The art looks nice and lively and works extremely well with the short stories. The manga is harmless and perhaps fun even, but it's not my cup of tea. For the fans of the series this surely is a spot-on and that's always great. This is also cute, which is nice. So, an easy read and works for younger readers too as this is shounen and the original is seinen.
This is a cute spin-off/side story to the That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime series by Fuse. Haven't not read/seen the original series, I was a bit confused going into this. Maybe it would make more sense if I'd had exposure to the original series, but these seems to be largely a trio of new characters? Anyway, it's really cute. Phos, Stella, and Nimu are all sent by their leaders to spy on or infiltrate Tempest, and the sort of find their niche - Phos as a member of the town patrol, Stella as a cook, and Nimu as a worker at a fabric shop (?). It's a cute little fantasy slice-of-life series with a bunch of mythical creatures, which is really fun. I'll definitely check out more of this series, as I want to see what this trio of troublemakers gets up to!
A digital ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.
Thank you to NetGalley, FUSE, Tae Tono, and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I never finished the original series of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, but I have read enough to find this new spin-off series rather fun, light-hearted, and humorous. I would say you don't necessarily have to read Slime first to enjoy this manga, though having read it prior made Rimuru's appearances exciting and enjoyable.
This manga follows Phos (a fox-wolf girl), Stella (a dragonish girl), and Nemu (a harpy), three new visitors to Tempest. Where they are from things are run a bit differently. They must learn the ways and customs of Tempest. As they seek jobs and try to find their place, they also hear rumors of the famous Rimuru, but how could a lowly slime have such a high position? This stumps the newcomers and they all want a glimpse of Lord Rimuru for themselves!
This is a cute fun first installment to the spin-off series that old fans will enjoy but will also appeal to new readers too. :)
I am surprised by how much I liked this one. This series is a side story to the main story “That time I got reincarnated as a slime”. We follow the story, not from Rimuru’s point of view like in the amin story, but from Phos’ view. As I haven’t read the main story, I thought I was going to be confused but turns out, not at all. Of course, I am missing information as to the story about Rimuru and others but it didn’t make the story confusing. It was really fun to read. The characters are all very cute and fun. Especially Nemu, I love Nemu. The drawing style is beautiful and just made my reading experience ten times better. The manga doesn’t really end on a suspenseful note but I still want to know what is going to happen and what Phos is going to find. Hence, I will read the second volume as soon as I have the opportunity to. I recommend this manga, especially if you’ve read the main series.
4/5
Thank you Netgalley for this eArc in exchange of my honest opinion.
This series is a spin-off of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. It takes place sometime between volume 10 and 12 and likely follows the original story later. This series seems to be focused on episodic side stories so spoilers might be at a minimum, but use caution.
Phos is a fox girl (a lycanthrope type monster) from Eurazania (an ally/neighbor/rival of Tempest) with the mission of gathering intel for Demon Lord Carrion. She's spunky and a bit ditzy so it's no surprise that she quickly runs out of money and has to get a job. Through shear coincidence, she manages to land a job in the security patrol, despite almost blowing her cover more than once. While on the force, she meets Stella and Nemu.
Stella is a dragon worshiper and follower of Milim (the oldest of the Demon Lords), seeking to follow in her lord's footsteps. She's snobby, opinionated, and overly rude without much remorse. After finally being persuaded/tricked into eat some curry, Stella decides she must learn cooking so she can serve her tasty creations to Milim. She ends up apprenticed under Gobuichi.
Nemu is a harpy who doesn't like working and loves sleeping. Her dream is to make the softest nest but that gets her in a spot of trouble when she naps on one of Shuna's best silk robes. Since the clothing is ruined, Nemu has to work to pay off the debt. Turns out she's perfect for the job (despite being unenthusiastic) and with some persuading, lands a permanent job with Shuna. Then we learn that she's also on a mission for Demon Lord Frey of Fulbrosia.
These three monster girls make up the 'Trinity' part of the title and are the main characters but I don't really like any of them. Phos is cute and spunky but she's kinda dumb and doesn't think everything through. Stella's personality is extremely abrasive and annoying because she's so pushy and demanding. Nemu is adorable but her character can be summed up in two words: cute and sleepy. Not much there, but still the most pleasant of the three. (Also, why do harpy girls speak in 3rd person? Monster Musume did that too).
It's not a bad series, but it could use some improvements. It's very fast paced and seems to reliant on the nostalgia of the original characters. Personally, my favorite new character is Gobuemon. I want his hat.
That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime is an interesting title. The drawing is full of different species and creatures, it is a totally fantasy world. Reading this manga feels like playing an adventure game. There seems to be so many characters you meet along the way, and the main character has to do different jobs and tasks to complete her mission. Readers will have to learn what the fantasy world is like, so many to find out. While that along is interesting, there is a lack of characters' depths that, in result, do not make you relate too much or invest emotionally in those characters. All of the characters also seem so cheerful and do not distinct much from one another in my opinion. That's the first impression I got from just reading Volume 1!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange of an honest review.
This is a spinoff manga to the series isekai that I have not read yet . It's a fantasy world were a slime called Rimuru established a kingdom for all the monsters. Our story is about three characters who came from others demon lords in order to infiltrate Tempest. They are led by Phos a fox girl whom we discover with her this odd fabtastic world, then we met the other two demon girls Stella and Nemu.
I think it's better to read the series first in order to be able to enjoy all the story. This book was intersting and entertaining.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love the anime, so I wanted to give this spin off ago, and it’s cute. I love the world and the slice of life aspects, but you are following completely different characters from who you’re used to. I don’t know if they are from the original manga. I only have the anime to go on, but it was adorable to see the world from cute anime girls. The story isn’t as engaging as the original series, but if you go into this knowing it’s a spin off then you’re going to be fine. It was a short series to enjoy while you pass the time away.
This was such a cute read! I haven't read That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime before but I'd heard lots of good things about it so I was looking forward to diving into this.
There were many scenes which were pretty cute and had me giggling, I think it's a great little introduction to the main story too as it shows so many different characters, will definitely be checking it out at some point.
I'll be putting a full review up on my website by the end of the week and updating this with the link then, but thank you Kodansha for the opportunity to read this!
I volunteered to read this book, through netgalley in exchange, for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. The artwork in this graphic novel is amazing. The pacing of this book is good. All of the characters are enjoyable. My favorite character is definitely Phos, she is a fox lycanthrop. I highly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read volume 2. This book is in stores now for $12.99. You guys this author is great. It will suck you in from the first page. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
Going with a 3.5 star rating. I am a major fan of the anime so I was hoping to love this, however there wasn't much of Rimuru and the crew. Phos was interesting enough, Stella was more interesting to me and Nemu was quiet. The new cast of characters were fun, but I wanted more of Rimuru because I adore him. Overall, it was a fun read, but I wanted more.
A copy was provided by the publishers and netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I’ve not read the original series this is a spin off of but that didn’t cause my any problems! The art is lovely and the story is fun and lighthearted. All of the characters were cute and easy to relate to. A few translation issues but otherwise perfect. I enjoyed this a lot. I’d definitely continue the series, but it wasn’t a favourite manga.
I have not read the main series of books that this series is based on. This book is from the perspectives of Phos, Stella, and Nemu. Phos is a fox girl who finds a job in the security force. Stella worships a dragon and wants to learn to cook. Nemu is a harpy and wants to sleep. I like the art and the variety of characters. I am interested to go back and read the main series to see how this book came to be. #ThatTimeIGotReincarnatedasaSlimeTrinityinTempestManga1 #NetGalley
While I still prefer the mainline story, it was fun to see a different perspective from 3 (inept) spies sent from various Demon Lords to find out more of what's going on in Tempest.
If you're picking this up without being familiar with the original I'd advise against that. There is far too much backstory you're missing to really get an idea of what's going on. So track down the original series first.
Verdict: For a spin-off it is not bad. But make sure you know the original first.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Trinity in Tempest by Tae Tono is a cute mange fille with loveable characters. This is also a side-story to the main one in case you don't know when you read this manga. This series is from Pho's point of view and it's quite easy to follow. The art is cute and beautiful in the manga which makes it enjoyable to read.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for giving me this opportunity to read this advanced reader's copy.
First of all, thank you to NetGalley for sending me an arc of this manga in exchange of an honest review. I have never heard of the Manga or this Anime Series until I saw it on NetGalley, I didn’t even know this was a spin off series. That’s the reasons why I felt a little bit confused at the beginning of the story. But once I started getting to know the characters and the world-building I enjoyed the story quite a lot. I liked the fact that there are different monsters in Tempest and how the main character, Phos, learns that the world should not be ruled by casts or how society stipulates how someone´s live should be, based on the believe that some species are stronger than the others. As it happens with most mangas, it was a very quick read. And I am curios to know how Phos experiences in Tempest are going to be developed. Definitely a must read for people who love manga and fantasy creatures.
ARC Copy...I am only familiar with the first volume of the original series but I seemed to enjoyed this more. Fox girl is fun to follow along and lots of zany energy abound.
