I didn't finish because a main (female) character knows not to trust a certain group of people, fears being around them, and knows- KNOWS- they are insane or evil or whatnot...and says, "Sure, please do, I would like to see your secret lab where heinous things are done to people". Obviously a paraphrase. But I hit that mark and the entire series was ruined for me. I went and peeked at the third book and yes, the evil thing is done to her as well. It chapped my bookmark and I wasn't even reading a physical book!
Then I went back to another unrelated book I was reading and landed in a chapter where a female protagonist is in danger of some sort too. The Aryshan book actually overshadowed the other book and I threw my hands in the air. I'm heading back into nonfiction for now. Nuthin' bad ever happens in THERE. Right?
No stars because I never finished it. Nor am I pursuing the rest of the series. Over all, I did enjoy what I read earlier. But this horror cliche of 'Let's go deep inside the haunted wood/mansion/cemetery and tell no one we're going and so on and so on'...ugh. It just hit me so hard.

Big drop-off from the first book in my opinion. But maybe that's because this one feels like a set-up for book 3. Anyway I'm committed now so I'll read the finale at some point.
